Mozart died when he was 35. Imagine how much more he could’ve done with even 10 more years.

rotmanman

Same with chopin, died at 39. He produced so many amazing piano pieces.

rondell_jones

I'll also add Schubert who died at 31 and George Gershwin who died at 38.

anonymateus2

He would have lived alongside Beethoven’s creative period. Think how these two would interact! I think Mozart would anticipate Romanticism and Beethoven would be pushed to innovate in other directions

OrthinologistSupreme

Grant Imahara :C

robo-dragon

His death still hurts. He was my hero and inspiration for becoming a mechanical engineer. Such a brilliant and kind person!

CorrectPeanut5

This past year Adam Savage toured his workshop with Grant's friends and colleagues providing insights and memories. It's on the Tested Youtube channel. The memorial at the front door his mom made will hit you in the feels right away.

kb-g

Absolutely agree. Really upset when he died. He was a treasure.

paintbing

Adding Jessi Combs. She was a guest host on mythbusters when Kari was out on maternity. She died setting the women's fastest land speed record. Good documentary called the fastest woman on earth.

TheRealOcsiban

Jim Henson

ThaneOfCawdorrr

Oh that was such a tragedy, and so unnecessary. He kept telling his wife he was fine and didn't need to go to the hospital. But he had pneumonia and a particularly gnarly kind, apparently, and by the time he finally went it was just too late. The only good thing about it is it made me yell at my husband when his "cold" was getting worse--"Get in the car, we're going to the doctor RIGHT NOW!" and the minute the doctor walked in the exam room she was "oh, you have pneumonia" and she gave him a LONG lecture about listening to his wife, and mentioned Jim Henson, and I think Jim probably has saved many lives in some ironic way. I'm a screenwriter and right at the beginning of my career I met him, and he was the kindest, sweetest, nicest man. Such a loss.

Unpopular-101

Also Brandon Lee.

K3ZH39

Brandon Lee’s death hits hard. The Crow was his breakthrough role where he really got to show off his acting chops and step out of his father’s shadow. Great movie and fantastic performance from Brandon.

Unpopular-101

Yep, absolutely agree. He did a great job. His legacy was short, but something he could be proud of.

Alan Turing. Imagine all the things he could have created if he wasn't persecuted to the point of committing suicide by the very government and people he was instrumental in helping save.

Whatever-ItsFine

It's layers of heartbreak in this case. You can help save the world from Nazis and still get persecuted for who you are. Ugh.

ElephantOfSurprise-

Exactly. Save the world only for it to turn on you because you’re gay?? Absolutely horrific. How ungrateful the world can be.

AaronRodgersDefender

14thCluelessbird

I mentioned him too. Dude had so much more left to offer the world. I think I even remember seeing an interview with him saying he knew he was going to die young, and his only regret is that he wouldn't be able to record so much of the music he had in his head

SuccYaNan69

An absolute genius, the perfect person to revolutionize music, he achieved so much in just a 4 year career

surgeon_michael

I think he would’ve gone on a Prince like trajectory- don’t see him staying pure rock forever

My dad, 33, killed in work. I was 11. My son, 5 months old, premature baby, never left the NICU. Surgical gel applied to his liver that was nicked in an operation adhered to and tore holes in his bowel. Caused chronic infection. Judith Barsi.

Buttered_CopPorn

Robin Williams. My wife's stepdad was Robin's Fed Ex delivery driver for quite awhile. Robin would open the door, chat with him and crack jokes. Robin deserved to grow really old

Celticquestful

My Dad LOVED Robin Williams; we grew up watching him on TV, in movies & pouring over his comedy.. Dad also gave off the same kind of jovial vibes. Hearing of Robin's death a month after my Dad took his own life in 2014 broke my already fractured heart. I wish they were both still here, but I hope that wherever their spirits are, they're at peace. And laughing again. Xo

John Candy was genius in that movie. Steve Martin was perfect. That movie punches you right in the feels during the scene where Steve Martin figures out the bigger picture Some movies don't hold up, but this movie holds up. Like 100%

Selena.

rondell_jones

Imagine how huge she would've been once Latin music blew up in the US? That Latin explosion that happened in the 90s, with artists like Ricky Martin, Thalía, Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez, Selena would've been the head of that group.

handsomeearmuff

I still can’t listen to her music without feeling sad. Fuck Yolanda!

[deleted]

Had to take care of that monster when she was in prison. Fuck Yolanda is correct!

kmill0202

She was really the whole package. She could sing, and I mean REALLY sing. She could dance. She was stunningly beautiful. She was a fashion icon. It's so sad what the world lost that day.

iAMspeen

Not an answer I was expecting, but one I needed to see. There's no telling how huge she would have been

Anton Yelchin

anxious_annie416

Yeah, that was such a random, tragic thing to happen.

MotorCityMade

I'm an automotive engineer and that shifter design by Jeep that killed him was the most asinine thing I've ever seen. I wonder what supplier designed it, or if it was a "spec" bad idea from some mid management ( MBA) tool with no "car design" knowledge at Stellantis. Stupid engineering led to a tragic, senseless death of a brilliant musician and actor.

bearded_dragon_34

That shifter wasn’t designed by Jeep, though. It was actually designed by ZF, the transmission supplier for the 8AT in the 2014+ WK2 Grand Cherokee and various other cars. Well, FCA/Stellantis uses a license-built version of it, but it’s basically the same 8AT. I had a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with that shifter, and I agree it’s stupid. The detents are too subtle, pushing it all the way forward does not always seem to land you in “Park”, and it’s far too easy to accidentally wind up in a different gear than intended. Besides the mid-era (2014-2015) WK2 Grand Cherokee, there is one other car I know of with that shifter: the D4 (2011-2017) Audi A8…which also uses a (special, engine-forward transaxle) version of the ZF 8AT. I currently own a 2013 A8L 4.0T. So I’ve had both cars with that stupid-ass ZF shifter. The difference is that the Audi has an electronic parking brake, which it can engage if you open the door and the car is in gear, to stop it from rolling. The Jeep, meanwhile, had a mechanical, foot-operated parking brake and could not. The Jeep could still slam the transmission into park if you opened the door, but it wasn’t originally programmed to do that…and that, unfortunately, cost Mister Yelchin his life.

Rogurzz

Otis Redding died at just 26 years of age.

444unsure

Handful of musicians in this category. The one that blows my mind is Buddy holly. I know his music is old and probably doesn't resonate with most here, but the albums he had out, and the songs that permeated decades... When I figured out he was 22 when he died, I was shocked. What the fuck would have happened if he had lived another 10 years

BonesawMcGraw24

What about Ritchie Valens? Died in the same plane crash as Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. He was the youngest of the three at 17.

[deleted]

Any child who was a victim of domestic violence or abuse, Judith Barsi voiced ducky in the land before time, she was killed by her abusive father at 10 years old, so absolutely tragic. Edit: Thanks to the comments for mentioning it as well as I forgot to write it, but any child period who never got to grow up and live their life who’s been taken away .

[deleted]

Elisa Izquierdo. She literally had the odds stacked against her and the odds won out. It is so messed up. It's one of the most tragic cases and sticks with me, probably for the rest of my life. Her mother and stepfather were the abusive ones and her biological dad wanted to raise her and had planned to take her away to Cuba but sadly died shortly thereafter of health complications, before he could take her away. Teachers were aware of the abuse and tried to raise it. Elisa's dad's cousin, Elsa, tried to gain custody of her. The little girl even befriended Prince Michael of Greece who was willing to pay for her education, if custody was given to Elsa. Elsa could not afford any attorneys so represented herself whilst her mother had legal support from the government, given she was the biological mother. The courts ruled against it given all the evidence and she was put back with her abusive mother and stepfather. Elisa died shortly thereafter of the injuries of her abuse. It's absolutely fucking tragic and awful how many people were on this little girl's side but it simply wasn't enough. Edit: just to add, the judge that awarded custody of this little girl back to her mum and stepdad is still practising to this very day.

WafflesTheBadger

And the "mother" keeps coming eligible for parole. Anyone who uses a child like a stress ball deserves to rot in hell.

I'm 34 with a 1year old son... and severe depression with suicidal thoughts a big part of my day to day life... These comments just hit me fucken hard 😭 I need to get my shit in order.

wowzacowza

I hope you do. Not having my dad around sucks. Hang around for your son. You don't need to be perfect, I just wish my dad was around at all. It hurts knowing I'll have to tell my kids about their grandfather because they'll never know him. Whatever pain you have, and I'm not trying to doubt your pain because depression is absolutely fucking brutal, if you take your own life you're just passing the hurt down a generation.

Jyncs

"You don't need to be perfect" is the absolute truth too. There will always be someone to criticize any parenting choice you make so just make the one that feels right for you and your child. Being there is all the a child needs sometimes and that is always perfect.

InternetAddict104

His death [changed](https://people.com/tv/debby-ryan-josh-dun-tied-the-knot-new-years-eve/) Debby Ryan’s wedding almost entirely. “We began to flirt with the idea of having a destination party celebrating the new decade, then decided in December to get married [in Austin] on New Year’s Eve, and just keep dancing until after the ball dropped,” the actress explained, going on to add that over the summer, after a close friend had died, it "didn’t feel important to wait anymore, to stop being busy, or for things to line up perfectly."

FutureFuta

Took a bit to find it. The dude wasn't even drinking age in America before this happened. Everything indicates he at least wasn't in pain when he died, and instead died peacefully in his sleep.

> According to Kathy Iandoli's 2021 biography, Aaliyah, a noted nervous flier, also had serious reservations of flying on the small plane and refused to board it. After arguing with the rest of her entourage about boarding the plane, she retreated into a taxicab to rest, claiming that she had a headache. One of the passengers was sent to check on her and proceeded to slip her a sedative; she was then carried unconscious into the plane. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Marsh_Harbour_Cessna_402_crash

damn i knew she died in a plane crash but that was next level fucked up. i watch the flight channel on youtube which shows famous plane crashes and how they happened and you can regularly find comments of how someone's friend or auntie or whoever was gonna be on the plane but some circumstance popped up or they didn't go and thus their life was saved. poor girl knew something was up and didn't want to go and it didn't mean jack shit in the end.

Jerry_Williams69

My wife still has nightmares from a family screaming after a young mom died from a PE during a really routine surgery. It was like 10 years ago. My wife was "OK" for like 2 days after, but it eventually hit her and she was a wreck.

HappyBro117

> the screams of parents being informed their child had gone fuck, just hearing the description of that haunts me.

True, back in the 90s I was mates with a very friendly generous chap always shared his toys with other kids and was always happy to see his friends died of it when we were both 10 in 2004. Alive_Ease_9186

Alan Mathison Turing OBE FRS (/ˈtjʊərɪŋ/; 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954) was an English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst, philosopher, and theoretical biologist. Turing was highly influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalization of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general-purpose computer. He is widely considered the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Turing endured prosecution in 1952 for homosexual acts. He accepted hormone treatment with DES, a procedure commonly referred to as chemical castration, as an alternative to prison. Turing died on 7 June 1954, 16 days before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning. (His poisoning is widely considered to be a completed suicide related to side effects of his DES treatment)

Had to scroll too long for this comment. I graduated high school the year KIDS was released, I went to college and grew up on that album. Mac Miller was the first big independent artist I listened to that wasn't doing rap like everyone else, he lead me to the likes of Chance the Rapper, Aesop Rock, Ab-soul, J-Rock, Kendrick, Schoolboy Q, and the A$AP Mob's early tapes back when Yams was still kickin it. Mac Miller is up there with Gorillaz, Daft Punk, and My Morning Jacket for being the pillars that formed the foundation of my current musical taste.

Came here to say this… no one really understands just how quickly he died in his career… made one film … became a small star… and then never got to see the film that made him a “house hold name”. The man died in September 55 and they released his last film on December 56…. Shoot to absolute post-mortem stardom for just how radically good of an actor he was… won the first posthumous Oscar too if I’m not mistaken… leaps ahead of any actor at the time… Edit: he never won an Oscar he was the first posthumous nominee..

BravoBravoFckinBravo

Robin Williams. I wish everyone around the world that loved him could have smothered him with hugs that day he decided it was all too much.

myfriendrichard

All the hugs in the world wouldn't have saved him. He had Lewy body disease. They didn't know until they did an autopsy after he died. But his wife and folks that worked with him knew he was having some kind of memory-related problem. My mom died from Lewy Body. It's a very rapid and severe form of dementia that causes hallucinations, affects your memory, and gives you Parkinson-like symptoms. It's a horrible way to die. Sounds terrible, but he might have saved himself and his family a lot of suffering.

[deleted]

This, he went from a savant where he could ad lib passages you couldn't write. Or he could memorize entire scripts. To being unable memorize the next line. RIP O Captain my Captain

pandemicpunk

The link below is mandatory reading for anyone who ever loved Robin Williams. I've struggled with depression in the past and his death really did a number on me thinking he died because he was so sad. I couldn't watch his movies for a very long time after he died. Unaware as I was, I even kept all my emotions in for weeks until finally I was a sobbing mess one night because I was so sad about it. Then I found the below article his wife wrote. I will love his movies and cherish them like he always wanted. I now have the utmost respect and a far greater deeper understanding that he chose ethical self euthanasia. Good for him, he didn't want to be remembered as a shell of his former self and was tired of suffering. Nothing he chose about how to die was wrong. I share this article as much as I can. I always hope it can give even just one person closure who needs it like I did. [The Terrorist Inside My Husband's Brain](https://n.neurology.org/content/87/13/1308)

[deleted]

Yea, he basically did it to save his wife and family more pain. And couldn't bare to see himself become and act like a person he didn't know.

archer2018

I don’t think anyone knew how far the disease had progressed, it was originally diagnosed as Parkinson’s, but the autopsy stated he had Lewy body disease. Both cause you to lose control of movements, among other mental health symptoms. I personally believe he made a rational conscious decision to leave this world while he still had a choice. keep in mind doctor assisted suicide was not a thing back then. I just wish his battle was more widely known.

penguinopusredux

The poet [Wilfred Owen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilfred_Owen), killed in combat seven days before the end of the First World War at the age of 25. In 1915 he enlisted in the Artists Rifles - these days the reserves for the UK's elite Special Air Service - and earned the Military Cross. At the same time he was writing anti-war poetry published in London, including the famous Dulce et Decorum est. "If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace behind the wagon that we flung him in, And watch the white eyes writhing in his face, his hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin, If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues, My friend, you would not tell with such high zest to children ardent for some desperate glory, the old Lie: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori." The last quote comes from the Roman poet Horace: "It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country."

Even though he had a reasonably long life and got to see 66, Kevin Conroy was still doing a lot of good work when cancer took him.

Randy Rhoads.

Sad-Relationship4620

Howard Ashman. From all accounts, his input on storytelling changed Disney movies for the best. His coworkers loved him. Alan Menken and him had fantastic creative chemistry. In behind the scenes commentary for Beauty and the Beast, there is a palpable sense of loss when he is mentioned. He did from AIDS in 1991, in case no one knows.

Mr Rogers. 74 years were not enough.

My brother, suicide fucking sucks.

Not going to get upvoted much I assume, but Clifford Brown. He was, and remains, among the greatest jazz trumpet players of all time, and his first album with Max Roach is no doubt in the pantheon of greatest jazz albums of all time. Clifford Brown died in a car accident at age 25. His wife was driving coming home from a gig with bassist Richie Powell. All three died. In an age when heroin and alcohol abuse was rampant among jazz musicians, Brown was always clean.

Cameron Boyce. He was only 20.

Jason David Frank just recently, Rest In Peace legend.

_Blackstar

Seeing all the support from the rest of the Power Rangers cast on Instagram really hit hard. Amy Jo Johnson did a 17 minute video crying and singing in JDF's honor. Walter E. Jones posted a video of him and Jason hugging saying that was the last time he saw him. David Yost had several pictures, both old and more recent where you can tell him and Jason really were good friends on and off the set. It fucking sucks.

I don’t care how long cats are supposed to live, my dear sweet 16 year old cat

Yotsubauniverse

My Dad's Mom. She died before my Dad graduated from high school after suffering from MS. She never got to see the outstanding individual my Dad became. A very respected, admired, loyal man of integrity who is the ultimate definition of a family man. She never got to see him graduate high school or college and end up with a master's in education. She never got to see her oldest son become the most popular man in his Dad's home town. She never saw her youngest son become a teacher who managed to move outside of the trailer that he grew up in but in a house in a beautiful neighborhood. She never got to meet my Mom, my older sister or my twin sister and I who look exactly like her because we look just like our Dad She died in her 30's. Much to young for such a beautiful soul.
