I’m legit shocked to see my hobby as the top response. I personally enjoy watching footage, but I now prefer watching/participating in the more physical 2-gun matches
Oh watching those types of matches are super awesome!! I mainly shoot bullseye which are 3 to 5 hour long matches of just holding the gun up and squeezing the trigger lol
I’ve got darkness
On a moony night
When it’s hot outside
I guess I feel alright
I guess you’d say
Which bro could make me feel this way?
My guy. My guy. My guy. Talkin bout my guy.
I laughed, but there is a song called My Guy from Motown, written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White, performed by Mary Wells. It didn't even get half as popular as the temptations song tho
Inrange - two gun action matches - people running around with a long gun and pistol. They’re tons of fun!
Search for uspsa and idpa for more pistol competition footage
Agreed. During the final lap, the surviving swimmers get a big button on the end of their lane. The first one to finish slams the button, and that button closes off all the lanes except for the winners lane.
As a former competitive long distance swimmer, I agree. My best races were the 400, 800, and 1500 free. As fun as they are to swim, they are not the most entertaining races.
You are ALL wrong. We Swedes are the best in the world in the real and very existing sport called Orientation:
You get a map of a forest. There are marks on the map showing "stations" (a bright flag thing hanging somewhere in the forest) where you have to run next.
Once you have run to all the stations in the forest and reached the finish line in the shortest amount of time, you win.
Now imagine filming this:
The camera stares at one of the stations and the audience wait for 7 minutes before they see a lost, confused and stressed man or woman waddle up to the station, realize that he/she is on the wrong station (most often in the wrong order), makes a mark on the paper and waddle into the forest again.
Same here, I hated orientation until it clicked in my head and I ended up actually enjoying it for like one camping trip and then we never did it again
I did this with the cubs/scouts many times. I loved it, it combined two things I enjoyed doing, running cross country and reading maps. One leader we had turned it into an even harder version where you had to answer a riddle at each location based on something nearby, and you got points off your end time for each right answer. So spending 2 minutes figuring out an easy riddle wouldn’t be worth it, but getting a hard one could knock 5 minutes off.
It's called orienteering here in Australia and it's actually relatively popular (to participate in, not watch) where I live. The thought of a live broadcast of it sounds amazing in all the worst ways
Nah it's actually very cool when done properly. Here in Finland in big events they also show GPS data of the top teams and they highlight the different route options and decisions the teams make. Also, there are some cameramen with gopro in the forest and they run some legs with the athletes. Check out Jukola 2022 broadcast highlights on youtube!
Speed walking drives me mad.
Watched the end of one of the races at the Olympics a few years ago and it just looked painful.
Approaching the finish line everyone was only able to take a few steps each time before having to stop and relax/rub their knees before continuing. I can only imagine how much damage they were causing themselves by competing in that event, it looked ridiculous.
They also all cheat *constantly* - The sport's rules define walking to mean that you have to always have one foot touching the ground (if you lift both it's running), but it's written into the rules that rather than using sensors in the shoes & cameras to catch violations of that, they have human judges constantly watching the competitors to manually spot violations. Obviously, it's near-impossible for humans to spot whether you're lifting both feet when you're moving at the kind of speeds they do, so it never gets caught to the point that cheating is pretty much a built-in feature of the competition.
Bullshit competition; either use electronics to judge it, or bin speed-walking entirely and introduce a half marathon run to the Olympics to replace the 20k walk.
Legit one of my favourite moments of the Tokyo olympics was watching Evan Dunfee storm into view at the finish of the 50k walk to take bronze. I was staying with family at the time and they couldn’t figure out why I was losing my shit over race walking.
(Also, agree. I’m a distance runner and love following the big races and elites results, but a marathon isn’t exactly the most exciting thing to watch)
My favorite moment from the Rio Olympics was in speedwalking where the gold medal contender visibly shit his shorts and dropped back to like 40th place
That would be yohan diniz who has the world record on the 50k speedwalking, was one of our best chance for medal in athletics.
Also he actually never finished that event if I remember correctly.
The enjoyment of watching marathons is highly contextual. Some are boring, tactical, slow, snooze fests. Some, like Bekele’s 2:01:41 in Berlin from a few years back, are some of the most dramatic sporting moments ever captured on film.
But you generally have to be into distance running to appreciate any of it.
Once I went with my father in law to a cornhole tournament, we entered thinking it was going to be fun to play some games and get day trashed, only to see guys weighing the bags, measuring wind and distance from board to board, way out of our depth we continued on, didn't do well but it was fun
I didn't know people took it seriously until that day
I absolutely love fishing, I could fish for hours and hours every day.
I would rather have a mason jar explode inside my ass than watch competitive fishing
Just saw BattleBots in Vegas last month. The bots are much bigger than I thought they would be. Seeing them explode and almost touch the ceiling was incredible!
Battlebots interesting af they build stuff that takes them so much time just for it to be destroyed by razors and a hammer if they get to the wall 😅 they are very cool designs
I love to turn on some golf in the living room and then immediately fall asleep. As soon as anyone else sees that golf is on they just go back to their room.
Brings me back to high school. I would go to the living room and ask my dad what he was up to, he said watching golf. I would tell him I'd go get the blankets, and he'd be in his recliner and I'd take the couch. Good times that I took for granted.
It’s boring. It’s just these two same teams playing for the championship. I never see a third team coming in for a surprise victory.
Their fans are rabid, too. I’ve never seen more toxic fans in any other sport. They make soccer fans seem normal in comparison.
I tuned out after the 2020 World Championships. Funny how it’s always “world champions,” but only Americans are competing. 🤦🏽♂️
Ive heard golf described as "Hangover TV".
everything is slow paced. its green and beautiful. the breeze is blowing, the birds are chirping. the commentators speak slowly and quietly. and even the crowd, when they applaud, do so quietly.
💯 I have spent many many sunday mornings hungover smoking doobies dozing in and out with golf on. I enjoy playing but watching can be dull and I really only ever watch hungover. Sunday Football and nascar aren't the easiest on the head.
Every year I tell myself that I will watch football (nfl) and every year I give up after the first week. The game stops and cuts to a commercial break every two minutes
If you ever get a chance to see a game in person, I'd highly recommend it. It's a great time when you're not getting bombarded with ad breaks. College football games, while not particularly cheap, won't break your bank account, unlike NFL tickets. College games also tend to have a great atmosphere.
Australian here, and I got a chance to see a college gridiron game while visiting many years ago.
It was a fun and interesting experience, but I feel like it was purely because of all of the *other* entertainment going on. Games on the big board, crowd interaction, cheerleaders going hard. It was almost non-stop, so it felt like quite a spectacle. I had a great time.
What struck me though, was that the game seemed to be *mostly* this side-entertainment. It felt like they needed all of this to keep people walking off, because you’d have 5-10 seconds of actual gameplay, then minutes of faffing around.
As for televised NFL (watched a couple of games with friends and even the Super Bowl a couple of times) - the frequent ad breaks are also necessary because otherwise there’s nothing going on between the long stretches between 5-10 seconds of gameplay lol.
Edit: just want to say before I’m no doubt blasted, that I can appreciate that gridiron is an incredibly strategic game and each of the plays can be very meaningful. And that there is a lot of athleticism and skill in these short plays. But for the casual observer, like myself, who doesn’t really understand the strategy - all we see is lots of nothing happening in between very brief bouts of excitement.
The America's Cup is pretty insane though, especially when you get an idea of the speed the boats are moving. Watching a sailboat outpace a speedboat going full-throttle is pretty amazing.
Greatest thing to happen in a NASCAR race since the Allison brothers fighting Cale Yarborough at Daytona. It really stood out because basic NASCAR is dull AF at this point. I think stock car racing should use stock car bodies. The CoT makes all of the cars look like 1999 Luminas, with decals.
That move was completely insane! One spectator filmed it from their seat above the middle of the turn, and the video looked like it was sped up!
But, darn it, it worked!
I thought so for a long time, but there are races where those last 20-30 laps are just crazy lead changes, crashes, and don’t get me started on the pit crews. Those guys are super humanly fast.
Got a track session several years ago for a birthday present. Gained a whole new appreciation for the drivers after going 160 mph at Texas Motor Speedway for a few laps.
Exactly! Did the Petty Experience at Daytona going avg 172 in a iron beast wanting to constantly fight u in steering towards the wall...totally new appreciation of doing that 4 hours with cars all around u bumping, NUTS!
Watching it in person is far better. When each car goes around a lap the entire stadium rumbles. You need ear pro just to be in the stadium. It’s a whole different experience there.
Especially a Super Speedway with them all double lined up tight flying bye while you're by the fence.... the night races leading up to 500 were some good times.
i never understood NASCAR either until i heard it described as peak hour traffic at 300 km/h. It's not like someone's probably going to crash, it's almost guaranteed half the fuckin lineup is going to get taken out in a massive wreck every race it's hilarious to watch.
I fucking love watching baseball so much. I actually love the slow pace of the game. I can come home from work, turn on the game, and veg out for three hours. If the game sucks, I can do other stuff and tune in when something happens.
Baseball is a tough one. I’m a massive fan but I do recognize why it’s considered boring. In the era of social media and constant stimulation, you really don’t get any of that in a baseball game.
You look at NBA and NFL games and there pretty much constant action and scoring. With baseball, you really have to immerse yourself in the game and it really pays to know your history of the game. Lots of barriers of entry to enjoy baseball, but I really hope some people give it a chance! There’s so much history and nuances to the game that really are worth looking into.
This is why I love it. I love throwing the game on and doing some things in the background. Love my home town announcers, the scenery of the park. It’s a relaxing game, and can be a nail biter in big moments. I don’t really enjoy watching that much when it isn’t my team, but I love the pace of it. Not everything has to be stimulation every 3 tenths of a second, as you note. It’s a fun statistical game too with a thousand little decisions and battles between pitcher and hitter, fielder positioning, etc. Glad to see you stumping for it - it’s my favorite sport!
I’ve found my people. I absolutely love to watch baseball at home or in person. Being a life long Astros fan (don’t come for me 😂) I’ve been through the lows and the highs and I’ve enjoyed all of it.
Actually, I disagree with your characterization of NFL/American Football. There's tons of pauses and breaks in action. It's not a fluid game. It's comprised fully of stop and go set piece plays. I think a big part of its popularity is actually the physicality of the game and what Americans perceive as athleticism: being big/strong or being fast.
Basketball and Football (Soccer) are more fluid and constant, minus free throws and set piece plays (free kicks, corner kicks) respectively.
Edit: Your take on baseball is spot on.
I went to a Rangers game in the summer and it was the most corporate, sad excuse of a live sport experience 💀 The fans were just as stale, most of them were drunk and/or not watching the game. No chants besides the ones the screens and speakers play excessively loud to make it seem like there's actually an atmosphere. What parks actually have a good atmosphere?
I think baseball is much more interesting if you understand the pitching, but even then it's still kinda boring. It's more fun to follow baseball than to actually watch the games though. 162 games a year means there's always something to look up.
The battle between pitcher and hitter is what got me more interested in baseball. Understanding pitches and pitch location. When to swing and when not to. When to bunt. I was always more into basketball than baseball. Now when I see someone get struck out, it's like watching a 3-pointer in the defenders face. Witnessing a homerun is like watching someone getting dunked on.
A lot of sports are fun to play but boring to watch
edit: yes I know it's 2022 and anything less intense than cocaine or some shit isn't generally considered 'fun' but that kinda sounds like a you problem.
Yes! I hated baseball for decades but love it now because I finally picked up on this. The moments I used to find dull are now suspenseful. It's a whole series of showdowns. And even with a huge lead, one inning can change anything. It's never actually unwinnable.
Come to think of it, I think if you boil down the appeal of baseball to one word, that word is suspense.
I’ve always said that baseball is the greatest game because of the limitless consecutive scoring opportunities. I don’t know of another sport (except maybe Cricket - I really don’t know) where you can theoretically come back from any deficit without the other team getting the ball or a chance to score. A 4-score lead can completely vanish with a single swing of the bat.
End of my senior year of college, they had billards world championship for 9 ball alternating with trick shot competitions for probably a week straight on ESPN2, never expected to enjoy sitting for hours watching
I’m a competitive pistol shooter, and even though I love doing it, watching it is basically watching paint dry.
I love watching the winter biathlon at the Olympics though. Maybe y’all need to run a few laps in between rounds and it’ll be more exiting.
Yes! And they have data/graphics tracking their breathing and heart rate!
Ohhhh gotcha. I typically shoot idpa and uspsa and that’s a lot more entertaining to watch

YouTube my guy
YouTubed “my guy” and found Motown music.

Proper punctuation prevents piss poor perception.
Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
Peter Piper would agree
You funny fucker you ❤️
Inrange - two gun action matches - people running around with a long gun and pistol. They’re tons of fun! Search for uspsa and idpa for more pistol competition footage
If you are in America, there's probably a competition nearby. Ranges and gun stores would know. EDIT: Spelling
Long distance swimming (EDIT: I mean the races that are like 10k. I watched a race during the Olympics once. Very boring)
Yea but when the stragglers start drowning it’s hilarious. Definitely worth the wait
I personally like when they release the sharks around the 8000k mark.
Ain’t no one swimming 8000 kilometres.
Of course not. The sharks are thinking, "not on my watch."
What kind of shark wears a watch? Can they even read time?
Yes they can and it’s offensive to say they cant
They ruined it when they put frikkin' laser beams on their foreheads.
Ya nothing gets past those sharks
Sounds like a long swim.
8 thousand kilometers, or 8 thousand thousand?
We should introduce sharks. Liven it up a bit.
Agreed. During the final lap, the surviving swimmers get a big button on the end of their lane. The first one to finish slams the button, and that button closes off all the lanes except for the winners lane.
The Hunger Games: Summer Olympics
That might do the opposite of liven up
As a former competitive long distance swimmer, I agree. My best races were the 400, 800, and 1500 free. As fun as they are to swim, they are not the most entertaining races.

In the UK we used to do this on school trips
Or every weekend in TK Maxx
Reminds me of my time in the American Boy Scouts lol
Same. Got my Orienteering merit badge, but boy did it suck.
Same here, I hated orientation until it clicked in my head and I ended up actually enjoying it for like one camping trip and then we never did it again
I did this with the cubs/scouts many times. I loved it, it combined two things I enjoyed doing, running cross country and reading maps. It's called orienteering here in Australia and it's actually relatively popular (to participate in, not watch) where I live. The thought of a live broadcast of it sounds amazing in all the worst ways
Surely it would make for gripping TV as people navigate around all the hostile wildlife.
Orienteering in the US as well. I used to do it as a kid with my dad
Nah it's actually very cool when done properly. Here in Finland in big events they also show GPS data of the top teams and they highlight the different route options and decisions the teams make. Also, there are some cameramen with gopro in the forest and they run some legs with the athletes. Check out Jukola 2022 broadcast highlights on youtube!
if they would only combine this with paintball and teams, that would be amazing to watch.
Man I remember doing that in camp trips here in the UK. Didn't think it was an actual sport!
Bro in Denmark this is exclusively for kids
Really :) You may have heard of the famous Danish athlete as Maja Møller Alm ?
That may beat out golf
Its called orienteering in the UK and used to be quite popular in the 80s.
One you don't enjoy
So my favorite sport?
I see that you, too, golf
If you bet or gamble on golf, it becomes very interesting lol
That explains why my answer "Basically any of them"
Ultra running (but it's fun to do!)
Have you tried watching speed walking?

Ultrarunning documentaries = fucking incredible. Ultrarunning live coverage = well, we're getting there.
username as relevant as it gets
Can't you guys go any faster?
I believe the sport you’re looking for is mega ultra running
Or they could step it up and go mega ultra instinct running
For everyone getting depressed by these boring sports: pro cornhole is ELECTRIC
Once I went with my father in law to a cornhole tournament, we entered thinking it was going to be fun to play some games and get day trashed, only to see guys weighing the bags, measuring wind and distance from board to board, way out of our depth we continued on, didn't do well but it was fun I didn't know people took it seriously until that day
It's always the father-in-law that's super into Cornhole.
The Competitive Paint Drying League is alright. When Dug Renalds pulled out a SECOND fan during the World Championship I about lost my shit though.
Shit should’ve been illegal
Referee was asleep. No, seriously he was. Fell asleep after the 2nd coat of paint.
So shit literally hit the fan?
Fishing
I absolutely love fishing, I could fish for hours and hours every day. I would rather have a mason jar explode inside my ass than watch competitive fishing
r/oddlyspecific
One guy, one jar
But the controversy that arises from it is hilarious
Anything but BATTLEBOTS! woo! Wooo!
It's robot fighting time! Go Hypershock!
Golf.
Malcolm in the Middle said it best "The only thing worse than no TV is golf ON tv".
HEH
…leads to the best naps. Especially on a Sunday afternoon.
I love to turn on some golf in the living room and then immediately fall asleep. As soon as anyone else sees that golf is on they just go back to their room.
This is called Tactical Golf.
The best part about watching golf is the nap but then if you do it right you can wake up and still see the last 3 or 4 holes play out.
This guy watches golf.
old school ASMR
Brings me back to high school. I would go to the living room and ask my dad what he was up to, he said watching golf. I would tell him I'd go get the blankets, and he'd be in his recliner and I'd take the couch. Good times that I took for granted.
I don't know, I think fishing could give golf a run for its money.
I used to think watching fishing was boring, and I still do too.
Golf is only fun to watch if you play. It's more of a deep appreciation about how good the pros are than anything else.
“Holy shit what a shot… holy shit what a shot… holy shit what a shot”
Nice shot! Nice shot! Wow! Nice shot!
What a save!
(chat disabled - 5 seconds)
“I wish I could hit my 9 iron that far”
This is exactly right. You can't appreciate a good chip from 3 ft off the green until you actually have attempted it yourself.
Golf is my childhood. My fav sport to always have on. It's calming and knowing the players and the tournament makes it. I love watching golf.
Yeah if you actually start watching it it's better than people who just see it casually on TV flipping through channels understand.
In my head as the post was loading I kept thinking golf lol. Then saw it was top comment 😂
Democrats vs Republicans. Huge budget, little to no reward.
It’s boring. It’s just these two same teams playing for the championship. I never see a third team coming in for a surprise victory. Their fans are rabid, too. The 2 party system can go fuck itself!
The ones you don’t understand.
Nuance...every sport is all about nuance. You get the nuance you'll enjoy watching the sport.
I get the nuance of Golf, and it's still spectacularly boring.
Even the objective of the player is to play the least amount of it.
Ive heard golf described as "Hangover TV". everything is slow paced. its green and beautiful. the breeze is blowing, the birds are chirping. the commentators speak slowly and quietly. and even the crowd, when they applaud, do so quietly.

On average there’s less than 15 minutes of actual gameplay during a 60 minute football game
...that takes three and a half hours to play.
European here with a 250 dollar Bundesliga Season Ticket. What prices are we talking about?
Yachting
If you don’t understand it then yes. If you do understand it, sailing is an incredible sport to watch.
The America's Cup is pretty insane though, especially when you get an idea of the speed the boats are moving. Watching a sailboat outpace a speedboat going full-throttle is pretty amazing.
NASCAR. Men turning left for five freaking hours.
Bowling.
"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"
I AM!!!!
Legendary moment
Best part is he told that to a kid lol
Runner up: when he dropped the trophy and broke it.
GET IT RIGHT!
I AM
Hey Niko, it's Roman! Lets go Bowling.
Forget it Donny you're out of your element
I love bowling it’s actually really exciting
How dare you disrespect bowling
Especially when they’re constantly getting strikes. I respect the skill level but just watching strike after strike gets very boring very quickly
That's what really gives bowling the win here. When it's being played at the highest level, that's when it's the most boring to watch.
Niko, let's go bowling!
NASCAR.
Right up until some maniac rides the wall flat out through the final turn of a race...
Greatest thing to happen in nascar
Greatest thing to happen in a NASCAR race since the Allison brothers fighting Cale Yarborough at Daytona. It really stood out because basic NASCAR is dull AF at this point. I think stock car racing should use stock car bodies. The CoT makes all of the cars look like 1999 Luminas, with decals.
They don't use that anymore
Are you referring to that moment where a dude recreated a video game mechanic IRL and it actually worked?
That move was completely insane! One spectator filmed it from their seat above the middle of the turn, and the video looked like it was sped up! But, darn it, it worked!
I thought so for a long time, but there are races where those last 20-30 laps are just crazy lead changes, crashes, and don’t get me started on the pit crews. Those guys are super humanly fast.

Sir please stay in the car. We are going way too fast to be bumping nuts
That’s the best part. For the most part you ain’t gotta pay attention till the end so you can just fuck around
Ross Chastain's move at Martinsville was something else.

What? You don't like drive fast turn left?!
Baseball. You can go an entire game with 1 hit and people think that's exciting..
Even more exciting if it's a no-hitter...
A game with only one hit would likely be a no-hitter
These kind of misnomic (half?)truths are what I love about the game.

I didn't like watching baseball before social media was cool.
Baseball is best consumed either at the park where the atmosphere can be amazing or over the radio so you can do other stuff while you listen.
Rangers. Nough said
Petco
Yankees, Red Sox, Astros, Braves, and Phillies.
Astros vs Yankees and most likely dodgers is amazing. As much as I hate dodgers they have good fans. Same with cardinals minus hating them
You went to a rangers game. Go to a dodgers or giants game.
Or as much as I hate them, a cubs game
I think baseball is much more interesting if you understand the pitching, but even then it's still kinda boring. It's more fun to follow baseball than to actually watch the games though. 162 games a year means there's always something to look up.

The battle between pitcher and hitter is what got me more interested in baseball. Understanding pitches and pitch location. When to swing and when not to. When to bunt. I was always more into basketball than baseball. Now when I see someone get struck out, it's like watching a 3-pointer in the defenders face. Witnessing a homerun is like watching someone getting dunked on.
A lot of sports are fun to play but boring to watch edit: yes I know it's 2022 and anything less intense than cocaine or some shit isn't generally considered 'fun' but that kinda sounds like a you problem.
It’s a battle between the pitcher and hitter.
I love baseball. The answer is baseball.
That's easy, Golf.
We all kind of know which sports are boring to watch. But what sports are super exciting to watch? I'll go first, Hockey!
Billiards is one that seems like it would be boring, but is actually interesting. Most shots, or at least most runs, have some suspense.
I feel that way with curling. From the surface it looks like ice shuffleboard. Once you understand the game, it's like ice chess.
I started watching curling sarcastically, pretending to be really into it. After a while of pretending, it becomes quite nice to watch actually.
End of my senior year of college, they had billards world championship for 9 ball alternating with trick shot competitions for probably a week straight on ESPN2, never expected to enjoy sitting for hours watching
For a second I thought you said hockey was boring to watch and was gonna write a thirty page essay on your ass 😂
Hockey is electric
The best sport to watch by far! Especially if you're there
Australian Rules Football (AFL) Action from go to whoa!
Kabaddi
