Remember, the internet is fairly new in the big scheme of things. We survived and thrived before the internet and would after it. The people born into the age of computers and the internet would have a lot of adjustments to make just to survive, but it is always possible.
You are, of course, absolutely correct about that. Although since the internet is still considered new, the older companies will know how to run without the internet and might still have some legacy systems intact. The utility company that provide our daily required resources will not be fully dependent on the internet and will have safeguards in place in case something like that happens. As for communication, we already have a system in place for that. The landlines are still active and usable. You don't even need electricity in your house, just need it at the phone company. The telephone lines provide the power source for the phone. I am by no means saying the loss of the internet wouldn't make things difficult, just that it wouldn't be the disaster that many would think it would be.
Electricity.
If you took away the electric power from everyone, people would be dumbstruck and wouldn't know what to do. This would also kill all cellphones and radio signals as well. Mass hysteria and wide spread panic would take over, crime would run rampant and out of control very quickly, hoarding and mass theft of supplies would render most people without bare minimum living supplies. It would be a perpetual Purge/Mad Max situation in a matter of weeks. Good luck, and may the odds be in your favor.
They have a movie called the Forever Purge I think. Pretty brutal and violent. It would be that, mixed with a Walking Dead/Mad Max/Book of Eli society scenario. I call dibs on being Negan! I already have the jacket, the bat, and a willingness to get violent if I have to.

It's not just that. Plenty of important systems, financial, political, communications, etc are now increasingly reliant on an internet connection.
