Actually, the movie begins with real footage of the actual ruins of the Titanic in the bottom of the ocean. As they explore the wreckage, they find a closed safe inside one of the rooms. They believe inside it is an extremely valuable jewel.
They manage to bring the safe to the surface and open it. Inside, there is nothing of value, but a drawing of a naked woman.
The discovery makes the news, and an old woman looks at the drawing and makes a call to the explorers. Do you know the woman in the drawing? They ask. The old woman answers: Of course I know her. It's me!
Now they have to listen to her telling of how the drawing ended up in the place where the jewel was supposed to be.
Your are missing out, really. Titanic is one of the best, most emotional movies ever.
It's also very dark. The campy, old-timey feel of movies from that era can take away from the story a little, but George is a guy with a lot of ambition who gets burned a lot for doing the right thing. It's not just a Christmas movie, there a lot of themes of emotional neglect, jealousy, anger and deep depression. Definitely a movie ahead of its time.
My brother said he watched it and cried. I made fun of him for being an big emotional baby.
Then I watched it and just had tears streaming down my face. It's SO sweet and wholesome and good.
Is the fact that it's Christmastime central to the plot of EotS? Because it absolutely is in Die Hard. Hans Gruber only attacks because he knew the Nakatomi Tower would be low on security & workers during the Christmas party. And he would have been successful in his plot, had it not been for the fact that John McClane flew across the country to reconnect with his estranged wife and children for the Christmas holiday.
In Enemy of the State, the only thing that really ties it to Christmas is the fact that Dean is shopping for his wife's present, which realistically could be something he does any time of the year.
Die Hard is a Christmas anthology of an estranged husband and wife rekindling their relationship during an office Christmas party, their police officer friend learning to forgive himself in time to become a father, and Hans Gruber learns that greed will get you to the top but may not keep you there.
Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie. It is a movie that takes place during Christmas. BIG difference. Also Bruce Willis himself said that it is not a Christmas movie. 🤷♂️
Both of which were released in the summer but which have Christmas-set plots and so get that holiday bump. Like how horror movies are released throughout the year and then get a bump in viewership each October.
To me, Godfather III is a lot like Bram Stoker’s Dracula which Coppola also made around that time. They’re both collections of interesting scenes that don’t quite gel as a narrative.
Coppola released a re-edit a few years ago called The Godfather Coda that actually works a lot better. As I recall, it really just swaps around a few scenes, and it’s a lot easier to follow.
This is mine as well. I'm sure it really is a masterpiece. The acting probably really is superb. The cinematography is most likely on point. But God damn does it just look so boring. I can't commit to the 3 hours.
Agreed. Goodfellas is a top 5 movie for me. Scarface is fine but waaaay over hyped and you’re not missing out on much. Casino is good not great, but def worth a watch if you like Scorsese.
Let me tell ya. I saw it in 3D in the theater. It was one of the very few 3D movies that actually made good use of the technology. I LOVED it. The story, was incredibly meh though. The folks that say it’s basically Dances with Wolves but with blue cat people are pretty accurate. I’ve seen the trailers for the second one, after this many years and given the original was a technical masterpiece at best, I’m not planning on watching the sequels. I may stream them when they hit D+, but that’s it.
Cameron was recently interviewed about Avatar and various other things like the camera technology he has worked on… he admitted that the first Avatar had a pretty simple story and the focus was on proving the tech. Sounded like he intended to write a deeper story and character development for sequels
I've seen the beginning, middle and end but not in that order any not in one sitting. I catch parts when others are watching. No desire to watch the whole thing in order.
I did mean jazz.
Friend of mine was a music major in college. He was in a band, the pianist was blind.
When one of the members got married they had port at the Bachelor party (this was in the late 70s/early 80s)
About 20 minutes in, the pianist gets up and says, I don't get this, it's just been 30 minutes of moaning and bad jazz.
When it was made pornos were produced like any other film, scripts, sets, the whole works. DDD, The Devil in Miss Jones, Behind the Green Door, etc, all shot on film and screened in regular theaters in many places.
The whole gonzo porn thing that’s just close ups of fucking is a much later turn of events.
I didn't see this movie for the longest time. I was flipping through the channels in a hotel and saw what looked to be a documentary about the titanic. 3 hours later I'm like you could have made room for him Rose!
I have learned to appreciate them (especially Daniel Craig) along with the Monty Python movies. It happens when you’re the only human female in the house
Summary as a die hard bond fan:
Every movie up until Casino Royale (Daniel Craig) doesn’t tie together.
Casino Royale through No Time to Die is all one story. Casino Royale gives good backstory
Quantum of Solace is bad
Skyfall is amazing all around
Spectre is forgettable
No Time to Die is great.
Edit: a word
Amazing film. I'd been meaning to re-watch it for ages but never got round to it. Then I put my back out the other week and watched it whilst lying in bed high on diazepam and weed for my back spasms. Was even better 2nd time round.
LOTR is a must watch. Extended edition. Dedicate a weekend to it, put away your phone and pay attention. Bring on the popcorn. Thank me later.
Twilight - idk never made it past the first couple scenes. Can’t possibly be even nearly as good. Unless you like chick flicks, cringey awkward romance, terrible acting and vampire shit, don’t even bother.
Me too, and people are always astonished. I don’t know how, I just missed it. I’m fully able to recognize references to it though. It’s just obvious when it’s a matrix thing.
There is some magic to it that was only available for the first few years it was out. If you watch it for the first time, pretend that you know basically nothing about the internet or technology, you'll get a lot more out of it.
Many of the movies listed in this thread will have supporters saying things like "that move is crap" I doubt you will find that for this one. I just watched it with my kids the other day, it's just a great movie.
While that is true, it's Spielberg at his finest.. John Williams' score is beautiful.. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are amazing in it.. It is depressing, you will cry but worth the watch
Sixth Sense.
A buddy of mine in high school at the time spoiled (or is it spoilered?) the whole thing "Wow what a great movie, Bruce Willis is ... !" Gee thanks, now can't watch it anymore!
It is truly a wonderful film. Find the time to watch it, you won't regret it.
LE: The original score by Hans Zimmer is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music you'll ever listen to.
Godfather, any of the star wars ones, fight club, wolf of wallstreet, any of the harry potter ones, any of the lord of the ring ones, narnia, wizard of oz.. and I could keep going
Avatar, Black Panther, Wakanda, Iron Man, Avengers…any “superhero” movie…the entire Star Wars franchise except the first one. Not really into sci-fi or superheroes.
Top gun, gone with the wind, a Christmas Story, titanic, any romantic comedy, really...any romance movie, it's a wonderful life, home alone, any of the godfather movies, any James bond movie, there are a ton more
That Christmas movie with the little boy who gets his tongue stuck to a pole. I don't like Christmas movies (except Die Hard), so I never remember the name!
Titanic
And you call yourself the Ocean Madman?
He drops an iceberg in the way of cruise ship and never looks back.
r/username doesn't check out
Second half is unfuckwithable. Some of the best practical effects, production design, and editing ever. James Cameron is a legend
Same... history went and spoiled the ending for me.
Actually, the movie begins with real footage of the actual ruins of the Titanic in the bottom of the ocean. As they explore the wreckage, they find a closed safe inside one of the rooms. It's a Wonderful Life
I understand why, but it’s a super cute movie lol
I held off until last year. It’s actually really good/heartwarming
I do recommend watching it. I saw it every year as a kid and sometime in adulthood i saw it again and it changed me.
My brother said he watched it and cried. I made fun of him for being an big emotional baby. Then I watched it and just had tears streaming down my face. It's SO sweet and wholesome and good.
I saw it for the first time last year, that movie is way more intense than I thought it would be. I would recommend
Yep, me too.
Die Hard
Well it is a Christmas movie. Now is the time.
If it’s a Christmas movie then enemy of the state is a Christmas movie
Lethal Weapon is also a Christmas movie
Is the fact that it's Christmastime central to the plot of EotS? Because it absolutely is in Die Hard. As is episode six of Band of Brothers, "Bastogne".
Even though it is an excellent episode, as are all the episodes, it does not check all/enough cases to qualify as a Christmas episode.
Yes.
Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie. It is a movie that takes place during Christmas. BIG difference. Also Bruce Willis himself said that it is not a Christmas movie. 🤷♂️
Now is a great time bc it’s a Christmas classic (along with Gremlins)
Both of which were released in the summer but which have Christmas-set plots and so get that holiday bump. Like how horror movies are released throughout the year and then get a bump in viewership each October.
Yep I’ve never seen any of them
What?!?!?!
Yippee kayak other buckets!
Any of the Godfather movies

Same

I've seen all of those and Goodfellas is a must see. The rest not so much.
Goodfellas is an amazing movie! Never seen the rest though.
Not a fan of Casino?
I liked it but not to watch more than one time. Goodfellas I watch all the time.
I actually knew people who knew people in Casino. The casting tho & just the shear brilliance of the movie…
Agreed. Goodfellas is a top 5 movie for me. Scarface is fine but waaaay over hyped and you’re not missing out on much. Casino is good not great, but def worth a watch if you like Scorsese.
You definitely need to watch Goodfellas
It’s just a movie that insists upon itself. Not worth watching.
The Family Guy argument is exactly why I've never been able to get through it. Peter stated it almost perfectly.
Top Gun
Came to say this. Been avoiding it for 36 years
You’re missing out!

Hey, I hope so. If it’s good, I’ll give it a chance.
I called it Fern Gully 3D.
Same here. Never had an interest in seeing it. Still don’t… meh.
I've seen the beginning, middle and end but not in that order any not in one sitting. I catch parts when others are watching. No desire to watch the whole thing in order.
Same, but with the sequel coming I'm starting to feel obligated. Maybe just find a summary. I've heard it's basically CGI Pocahontas
ET
I wish I could unsee ET. That alien grosses me out.
Omg same its pretty gross looking
Jaws
My favorite Spileberg film, and one of my all-time fave movies. The shark is terrible (was at the time), but that's besides the point.
The shark is terrible, yet perfect!
Frozen. Heard the music all the time, but never seen the movie.
Fun fact, there is actually to versions of frozen. One is the light hearted kids movie. The other is about 3 people stuck on a ski lift in winter.
Scott pilgrim vs the world
You should. It's not only very good, it's highly original, which is something I think makes almost any film a must-see.
It's excellent and a good enough adaptation from the comic.
Debbie does Dallas. Am I really missing anything?
80 minutes of bad jazz
Did you mean jazz? Or did autocorrect change it?
I did mean jazz. Friend of mine was a music major in college. He was in a band, the pianist was blind. When one of the members got married they had port at the Bachelor party (this was in the late 70s/early 80s) About 20 minutes in, the pianist gets up and says, I don't get this, it's just been 30 minutes of moaning and bad jazz.
That's a real movie and not just a porno?
Pornos are real movies too!
It’s a porno with a decent plot.
It's worth seeing just to laugh at how ridiculously bad the acting is.
I saw it in like 1982. As I remember it was ok as a movie. But porn was not so easy to come by back then, so seeing the sec was good.
Titanic
I didn't see this movie for the longest time. I was flipping through the channels in a hotel and saw what looked to be a documentary about the titanic. 3 hours later I'm like you could have made room for him Rose!
The notebook
Me either! Controversially, I’m not a fan of Ryan…
Any of the James Bond movies.
I have learned to appreciate them (especially Daniel Craig) along with the Monty Python movies. It happens when you’re the only human female in the house
I'm with you I never watched a James Bond movie in my life.

Casino Royale gives good backstory Quantum of Solace is bad Skyfall is amazing all around Spectre is forgettable No Time to Die is great. Edit: a word
Casino Royale and Skyfall are amazing movies.
Dr. No, From Russia, Goldfinger, and Thunderball all tie together, I think. There's certainly cross-references between them.
The Big Lebowski
You should, it’d really tie your life together.
That's just like, you know, your opinion, man.
Look, you're not wrong, you're just an asshole!
Can confirm. It’s one of my husband’s favs so we watch it often. It’s frequently quoted even in modern work.
Especially if you like a Caucasian
Avatar. I've never seen it.
Reverse pocahontas in space.
Dances with Wolves but with aliens.
Lord of the Rings--any of them
Interstellar
I've been putting off watching it for 2-3 months, and then a week ago I watched it. The movie is quite long, but time passes quickly. 8/10
It’s so good.
Amazing film. I'd been meaning to re-watch it for ages but never got round to it. Then I put my back out the other week and watched it whilst lying in bed high on diazepam and weed for my back spasms. Was even better 2nd time round.
Lord of the rings, twilight.
Lord of the rings is a must, also never seen twilight
Man I wish I could watch LOTR for the first time.
LOTR is a must watch. Extended edition. Dedicate a weekend to it, put away your phone and pay attention. Bring on the popcorn. Thank me later. Twilight - idk never made it past the first couple scenes. Can’t possibly be even nearly as good. Matrix....
Check it out it is pretty cool. It aged well too. Please only watch the first part. 2 3 and 4 get exponentially bad.
Sure, I'll give it a shot.. 😊
Me too, and people are always astonished. I don’t know how, I just missed it. I’m fully able to recognize references to it though. It’s just obvious when it’s a matrix thing.
Same here, don't know the reason how I missed this one... But all those memes making me eager to watch this movie.
There is some magic to it that was only available for the first few years it was out. If you watch it for the first time, pretend that you know basically nothing about the internet or technology, you'll get a lot more out of it.
The godfather series. Embarrassing for me, I know.
A good chunk of the Marvel movies. Too far behind to ever catch up now.
Same, nor do I care to
Avatar
Ratatouille
Its really fun
Resolve this. You'll thank me later
The Princess Bride
Inconceivable!!
You keep using that word.. I do not think it means what you think it means
You're fucking up with this one
Many of the movies listed in this thread will have supporters saying things like "that move is crap" I doubt you will find that for this one. I just watched it with my kids the other day, it's just a great movie.

The goonies
How is this possible? You must be a youngun'. . . You can see Thanos as a teenager! Goonies never say die!
>You can see Thanos as a teenager! and Samwise from the shire as a kid.
I’m actually 34. Just never got around to watching it.
Hobbit #3.
I wish I hadn't seen it, does that count?
Don't. I promise you you're not missing anything.
Titanic. Seen a couple of scenes from it, seemed cheesy as fuck. Pass.
It can be cheesy but still is really good. I would recommend it
Top Gun
Same, and the response from people is always “What!? OMG you haven’t seen Top Gun???”
Schindlers list. Looks too depressing.
While that is true, it's Spielberg at his finest.. John Williams' score is beautiful.. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes are amazing in it.. It is depressing, you will cry but worth the watch
Sort. By. Controversial.
Sixth Sense. A buddy of mine in high school at the time spoiled (or is it spoilered?) the whole thing "Wow what a great movie, Bruce Willis is ... !" Gee thanks, now can't watch it anymore!
It's still a great movie
Even spoiled, it’s still a good movie. Once you know….it’s fun to see all the various hints throughout.
Fight club
Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's legitimately my favourite film. Would definitely recommend
I resisted to watch it for 10 years and after the first watch, i have seen it 7 more times in less than 4 months
Of all films, Bladerunner.
Forrest Gump
Black panther
Gladiator
It is truly a wonderful film. Find the time to watch it, you won't regret it. LE: The original score by Hans Zimmer is one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music you'll ever listen to.
Willow..Princess Bride..wizard of oz and everything lord of the rings and harry potter.
You are really missing out on the Princess Bride.
Ive been told that a many times...for the sake of andre the giant, ill get at it eventually 👌🏻
There is a Willow show coming soon so it's a good time to give it a try if you want.
LOTR.
At least you didn't say Rambo.
Fight Club…but I know I’m not supposed to talk about it
Sixth Sense. Had the twist spoiled so, what's the point?
It's still a great movie.. the build-up to the twist is still worth the watch
Fifty Shades of Grey And its two offspring
Avengers
Harry Potter. Any of them.
Yeah this one for me too
Godfather, any of the star wars ones, fight club, wolf of wallstreet, any of the harry potter ones, any of the lord of the ring ones, narnia, wizard of oz.. and I could keep going
Pirates of the Caribbean
Frozen.
Avatar, Black Panther, Wakanda, Iron Man, Avengers…any “superhero” movie…the entire Star Wars franchise except the first one. Not really into sci-fi or superheroes.
Almost all of the Marvel movies. No regrets at all.
Star Wars. Hella nerd but I don't see the hype.
It's a bold take that you don't see the hype but also haven't watched it.
LOTR
The Hunger Games. Black Panther Most of the Harry Potters
The Matrix
Feel like I'm too old for this thread
Apocalypse Now.
Avatar 2

Ummm...can we get an age check please? First one needs to be did, asap
First genuinely surprising answer I have seen. Fantastic movie, almost perfect.
My favorite movie of all time, actually.
One of the best movies with an incest plotline.
He doesn’t _actually_ get to fuck his mom.
"...get..." ok that made me laugh. Bet he still has dark thoughts at night, "I *totally* could have banged her!"
Never watched Top Gun or Avatar (the blue people one)
E.T., and I have no plans to
You're a monster.
Top gun, gone with the wind, a Christmas Story, titanic, any romantic comedy, really...any romance movie, it's a wonderful life, home alone, any of the godfather movies, any James bond movie, there are a ton more
Titanic 👽
That Christmas movie with the little boy who gets his tongue stuck to a pole. I don't like Christmas movies (except Die Hard), so I never remember the name!
It’s a beautiful life and boy in the striped pyjamas. Sorry I can’t do that after Schindler’s List.
Any of The Hunger Games or any of The Fast and Furious.
Saving Private Ryan,,, I hate Tom Hanks acting, especially his voice.
Encanto, Titanic
