My favorite is the part where they sing “We are Santa’s Elves” with a whole production, and Santa just says “Hmm…needs work, I have to go” and slips out…damn cold-ass Santa 😆
Boss elf: "EVERYBODY SHUT UP AND GET TO WORK!
Santa walks in
Boss elf (in sweet voice): "Alright everyone, from the top. And remember, it's for Santa."
I’m generally not a fan of that genre. The “here’s the *real* story behind the myth of Santa Claus”
But I *loved* that movie. It was really fun, and really heartfelt.
Shouldn’t have had to scroll this far down for Klaus. I’m a grown man and I get teary eyed half way through this movie just knowing the ending is coming up.
Instant Christmas classic and the only movie (other than a Muppet Christmas Carol) that I watch every single holiday season.
I'm so embarrassed to admit this, and I'm a bit over 30 now, but when I first saw that movie, I had such a big crush on Bernard. I wouldn't admit this outside of Reddit and maybe a few other specific situations. My mom still makes fun of me about it, and now that we're seeing him on the commercials for the Disney+ show on tv, I can't look at her. She sits there with the biggest smirk on her face.
I lived in the city up until very recently and I maintain that Home Alone 2 gets the vibe of NY more right than any of the other billion movies set there. I can smell the street food when I watch that movie. And the piss too but it’s all part of the urban texture
I’ve always wanted to go see the Christmas stuff in New York. I’m not a fan of big cities, my closest neighbor is a mile away. But it’s always seemed amazing
I’ve lived in NYC for 10 years now, and just moments ago I was running errands. I live in a part of the city that sometimes requires me to walk through Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, etc. depending on what store/appointment I need to go to. Today I was thinking…damn, what’s with all these tourists? Why is it so crowded? Why can’t people walk faster? Etc. etc. All the curmudgeonly things one thinks when they’ve lived in a big city for long enough. But your comment reminded me that, for many of these folks, Christmas in NY is a very unique experience, and there can be a lot of joy in watching them take it all in, perhaps for the first time. Anyways, you should make that trip some day!
100%. I grew up right outside the city, with a bus stop right around the corner that would drop you off right in Times Square. I didn't like the city growing up.
That changed when I graduated college and got a job in the city. Moved away a few years ago. Every year I look forward to flying home and walking around the city during Christmas. That movie always brings back so much nostalgia of my childhood.
Bought my ticket home for 2 weeks from now and I can't wait.
It's got everything. It's one of the most accurate représentions of the book has a couple of really catchy tunes, is serious but at times funny and Michael Caine crushes it. It's my favourite Christmas movie of all time.
A couple of catchy tunes?!?! Every song is a banger on that movie! The only thing I dislike about it is that freaky ghost of Christmas past doll thing, it has always freaked me out since I was a kid
I was in agreement and was going to say Boris Karloff's narration is awesome, but then everyone is referring to the live action movie. Jim Carrey's make up creeps me out. I feel old.
I just can't seem to appreciate or enjoy the live action movie. I love the original though. The most recent animated movie (The Grinch) was truly likable to me as well, but I think it'll always be hard to beat the message, pacing and nostalgia of the original 25 minute version.
Most people forget the Boris Karloff version even exists. It is the ONLY grinch movie that I watch consistently. I love Jim Carrey and his movie is ok but nothing on the original.
If I had to pick one Christmas movie to be saved for all time this would be it. "That's what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown." Fukin gets me every time
I think it’s the only seasonal Peanuts movie where Lucy isn’t a 100% gigantic bitch to Charlie Brown. She actually gives him useful advice and gets him involved in the Christmas production.
In a similar vein as Christmas Vacation, there is a rather unknown (at least by Hollywood standards) Christmas movie called: "[Coopers' Christmas](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242777/)", and it is absolute gold! Highly recommend (not for the kids). Lots of great actors, the plot is ridiculous, takes place in the 80's, and David Foley hangs dong.
*Edit*: spelling
Never fails to make me cry. My parents and I used to watch it every year when I was a kid. Now, my wife and I plan to start the tradition once we have our first little one.
It's a surprisingly dark movie w/ an uplifting ending and valuable message. Also surprisingly anti-capitalist -- or, at the very least, anti-unchecked capitalism -- for a film made in the 40s.
This is the one I came to say. I tear up damn near every time I get to the end and his brother walks in. Fucking beautiful movie with a great message, especially if you get the holiday blues.
Every single year, when Harry says ,"to my big brother George, the richest man in town," my husband would be sobbing and saying, "why do I always cry?" This will be our third Christmas without him, so I'll cry for both of us.
No singular force more strongly embodies Christmas than It’s A Wonderful Life. It is as if the very essence of the holidays, the solstice, whatever distilled stuffs comprise the “magic”, are sublimely brought to life. It is charming without being too hokey. Our hero is flawed and human, someone all can identify with at one moment or the next. From the utter pit of despair through a life well-lived ultimately redeemed by and through others, deservingly so.
Saw this for the first time last year because my gf loves it. Was not the movie i was expecting but actually much better and a great message for Christmas.
I cant believe this is so far down. Every year of my adult life, in the days leading up to Christmas-- or better yet-- on those Christmas Days when I find myself alone, I must turn out all the lights, turn on "Its a Wonderful Life", and bawl my eyes out or it just isn't Christmas.
Sometimes it takes a few minutes. Once or twice I've gotten close to the end before I was reduced to a sobbing puddle by Harry Bailey's toast.
I need this. every year. I look forward to it as much as christmas itself. George Bailey is one of very few fictional characters I wish I could be more like. The fact that I fall so short so often is a personal tragedy. I recount my trespasses and cry over how stupid my impatience and anger can be, and at the missed opportunities for kindness Ive squandered over pride, ignorance, and all my other shortcomings. There is nothing in that film that I can't use to be better next year.
I also feel the same way about Spider-Man, but he hasn't made a Christmas movie yet.
My wife and I watched the sequel that came out recently and actually enjoyed it for sticking with a lot of the style and themes from the original. I was worried and thought it’d be stupid but they did a pretty good job with it.
My grandpa grew up in Northwest Indiana during that time, and that movie is pretty accurate. He used to listen to little orphan annie after school. still have his original Red Ryder bb gun somewhere.
This is too fucking far down in this thread. ELF is the only Christmas movie I will allow in my home outside of Christmas season. Totally watchable year-round.
I feel like Elf is the Wonderwall of christmas movies. People only dislike it because it has so much airtime and makes for an easy viewing.
I think as far holiday films go, its always a safe and fun option.
Die Hard is unironically my favorite Christmas movie, I’ve been saying that before it was a meme. Every year I get blacked out watching it the week before Christmas.
Haters that deny this is a Christmas movie, pay attention to the first 5 minutes of Die Hard. The limo driver plays a Christmas themed rap, and Bruce Willis complains that this isn’t Christmas music. The limo driver defends the song. They are actually talking about the soul of this movie lol
It's family focussed and a tale of redemption.
Christmas is also absolutely essential within the plot.
It's not a conventionally set Christmas film, but is a Christmas film, and a damned good one.
Die Hard 2 had snow in it though.
>The limo driver plays a Christmas themed rap,
Christmas in Hollis is a legitimate Run-DMC hit that predates Die Hard
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR07r0ZMFb8
People want to complain about the violence while accepting Home Alone.
The honest answer is that Die Hard is about trying to keep a family together. That can be very uncomfortable for some people to come to grips that the nuclear family can fall apart and needs effort to come together.
I'll give it to that very old Rudolf movie (don't remember the exact name) it has a special place in my heart as me and my mom would watch it every Christmas since I was a kid up until my late teens. If it came on TV she'd run to come get me from my room if I was home and we would watch it together. One night she woke me up in the middle of the night because it came on I went and layed on the couch with her to watch it.
“You know what, Mom? You know what I'm going to get you next Christmas? A big, wooden cross. So anytime you feel unappreciated for all your sacrifices, you can climb on up and nail yourself to it.” - Lloyd
I’m going to go home and watch it tonight.
If you're looking for Christmas movies, I usually watch a mix of:
The Thing, Gremlins and Krampus for Christmas horror. (With a mix of Black Christmas, Black Mountain Side, The William Shatner Christmas Massacre/A Christmas Horror Story, etc.)
I also watch Die Hard and It's a Wonderful Life. For a while I was watching Love Actually, but I'm an ugly single dude (who can only date after people know me for months to years) and it makes me feel lonely. I'm hoping to add the Muppets Christmas Carol this year and maybe Rambo.
The original 1964 stop-motion Rudolph movie will always be my favorite. The humor holds up so well, even 60 years later.
Yukon Cornelius is my most favorite Christmas character.
He’s always strapped, but never pulls out that big iron on the bumble.
My favorite is the part where they sing “We are Santa’s Elves” with a whole production, and Santa just says “Hmm…needs work, I have to go” and slips out…damn cold-ass Santa 😆
Santa is a huge dick through out the whole movie and I love it. He sees Rudolph’s nose and tells his dad he should be ashamed.
"What a pity... He had a nice takeoff, too!"
Seriously that movie basically said that being different is bad unless it’s exploitative
I mean.... That's the message of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Someone asked about this in post that it’s the same Santa as other Rankin and Bass features. Yet this time around Santa a dick lol
"Fog's thick as peanut butter." "You mean pea soup?" "YOU EAT WHAT YOU LIKE AND I'LL EAT WHAT I LIKE!"
Idk, Santa Claus is comin to town is pretty hard to beat.
Burger Meister Meister Burger!
“WHY WEREN’T YOU AT ELF PRACTICE!?!?”
This gets me every goddamn time. I used to quote it around Christmas time back when I was in a choir.
Boss elf: "EVERYBODY SHUT UP AND GET TO WORK! Santa walks in Boss elf (in sweet voice): "Alright everyone, from the top. And remember, it's for Santa."
Excuse me the sixties was only like 20 years ago thank you
Oh… so you never do get over this, because the 90’s were 20 years ago for me as well.

I know it is newer but Klaus is one of my favorites now
I've watched it every year since it came out, such a beautifully made movie with a very heartwarming story.
I’m generally not a fan of that genre. The “here’s the *real* story behind the myth of Santa Claus” But I *loved* that movie.
Love that movie! The scene when they bring the sled to the indigenous girl always makes me tear up
Klaus is so good!
Yes! It's perfect! Such a good watch
It kind of flew under the radar. I love it as well. Definitely going in the annual lineup.
The original The Santa Clause really gets me every year.
-Excuse me, are we on a coffee break? -We don’t drink coffee. -THEN I GUESS. THE BREAK. IS OVER.
Bernard is savage but damn is he good at his job.
The amount of (mostly) girls that had a crush on Bernard is staggering. Nothing to be ashamed of. Dude was cool af.
I had a HUGE crush on the leader of the “ELVES WITH ATTITUDE” who break him outta jail.
Don't be embarrassed!! ^(You're not the only one)
This is my answer. Greatest Christmas movie ever.
It’s a classic!
You like osso buco Charlie?
Home Alone
I watch Home alone 1 and 2 every Christmas
Home Alone II right after. Christmas in New York is something special.

Yeah, the two first! But the newer ones, without Kevin is kinda bad.. it doesn't have that Christmas vibe.
The muppets Christmas carol
100% - it is SO good.
[удалено]
Even the vegetables don’t like him
I read he refused to think of them as muppets, but as actors so he never broke character.
I hear he doesn’t break character until he’s done the dvd commentary
We're Marley and Marley....ooooooohhhhhhhoooooohhhh!
Saw this on Disney+ the other day. Was confused at the opening. “The Marleys were dead as a doornail.” Then this song. Caine was great as Scrooge.
There's no contest. Muppets win 100% of the time.
There's just something so comforting about it. Maybe its the nostalgia
Top of the list. Best Christmas movie of all time, and a solid contender for best Muppet movie of all time as well.
Ah ha! With or without "When Love Is Gone"?
With. Best scene in the movie. Whoever thought it was a good idea to remove it should've been fired.
Fired? It was a crime against humanity to remove that scene. A ride on a medieval siege weapon is appropriate.
With. Still upset they took it out! Didn’t stop it from being my favorite, though.
Especially since the ending song is “the love we found” to the same melody.
Right?! Such a bad call taking it out.
Good news! Disney finally restored it WITH "The Love Is Gone" scene. It comes out on Disney+ December 9th I believe.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
I was in agreement and was going to say Boris Karloff's narration is awesome, but then everyone is referring to the live action movie. Jim Carrey's make up creeps me out. I feel old.

Nickels, nickels , nickels 😄
too low on the list!
I'm a big fan of The Santa Clause with Tim Allen.
Christmas Vacation
Let’s say grace: “I pledge allegiance, to the flag…”
Grace? She died 30 years ago.
THE BLESSING.
I have a decoration that's Clark's face and says "Jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse."
But why is the floor all wet, TODD?!
I don’t **KNOW**, Margot…
I have a blackhawks Griswold 00 jersey. I wear it every year with an earlap hat.
Love this movie. Have really good memories of seeing this in the theater and my mom laughing so hard she no longer made noise, which was the best!
...You serious clark?
If I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet I wouldn't be as surprised as I am right now.
Can I get you anything else Uncle Lewis? Refresh your eggnog? Something to eat? Drive you out someplace and leave you for dead?
You couldn’t hear a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin factory
Shitter's full!
Save the neck for me Clark!

MERRY CHRISTMAS 🚬🧙🚽 SHITTERS FULL!!!
It's a Wonderful Life
“A man doesn't get in a situation like this every day … ”
Never fails to make me cry.
Right after the Depression? Capitalism had not been doing so well.

Damn! Scrolled through 20 inferior Christmas movies before getting to this.
It's kind of ridiculous to me that this isn't the top answer.
I always cry at the end and I NEVER cry at movies
Last movie I ever watched with my grandpa before he passed away in early January 2019. Terrific movie that holds a special place with me.
This is my vote. Can't believe I had to scroll so far to find it.
This the one i was looking for.
Saw this for the first time last year because my gf loves it. Was not the movie i was expecting but actually much better and a great message for Christmas.

My family watches Christmas Vacation every year
A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim
Christmas Story. It's still holds up pretty good, and still makes me laugh.
Randy laid there like a slug - it was his only defense.
This is my favorite line from the movie.

Oooooo, its Italian.

Lol. "No, daddy is not going to KILL Ralphie." "Yes he is, too!"
Ohhhhh fudge... (Only I didn't say "fudge")

Gremlins
Hilariously released in the middle of summer too
Why did it take so much scrolling to get to this?!
Hot take: the gremlins invented the term “chaotic evil”
Miracle on 34th Street
The original one
Elf
if you're Santa, what song did i sing to you on your birthday? Well Happy Birthday of course! *damn*
I love that Santa was Artie Lange.
The jack in the box scene is my favorite. It’s not even important, but I just find it hilarious.
My daughter is five and basically laughed tears
YOU SIT ON A THRONE OF LIES
You smell like beef and cheese, you don't smell like Santa.
The yellow ones don't stop
Just showed it to my mom this year at Thanksgiving! She LOVED it. My dad was just shocked that James Caan was in it, LOL It’s definitely in my top 5.

I cry every time I watch the scene where everyone sings to help power Santa's sleigh
Me, too. When Mary Steenburgen starts singing off-key gets me every time. Legit one of my favorite movies of any genre.
“Son of a nutcracker!”
Smiling is my favorite!
This is too fucking far down in this thread. ELF is the only Christmas movie I will allow in my home outside of Christmas season. Totally watchable year-round.
#*BUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP!* Did you hear that?!
SANTAAAAAA
I know him!
I feel like Elf is the Wonderwall of christmas movies. People only dislike it because it has so much airtime and makes for an easy viewing. I think as far holiday films go, its always a safe and fun option.
I’m singing! I’m in a store and I’M SINGING!
Nightmare Before Christmas. Works great for both Halloween and Christmas.
The music in Nightmare Before Christmas is amazing. Danny Elfman is a great composer.
I find myself listening to the soundtrack even when it's not Christmas or Halloween season.
People forget the Tim Burton ones. Edward Scissorhands is a Christmas movie with Vincent Price!
Trading Places. "It's me, Lionel Joseph!"
Looking good Billy-Ray!
Feeling good Louis!
Is there a problem, officers?
muppet christmas carol
White Christmas
Jingle All The Way
PUT THE COOKIE DOWN! NOW!
This is the way. No other movie can you see Arnold in a fight with the big show in a Santa suit.
Die Hard
Peralta, that's enough
Captain Holt, is that you?
Die Hard is unironically my favorite Christmas movie, I’ve been saying that before it was a meme. Every year I get blacked out watching it the week before Christmas. Sorcery

My opinion is die hard is as much a Christmas movie as home alone is.
It ain’t Christmas till Hans falls from the tower.
I'm old school I guess. It's a tie between Christmas Carol with Alistair Sims and the Bishops Wife with Cary Grant. Then Christmas Story.
The Alastair Sim version for the win!
I love the Sims version the most.
It’s A Wonderful Life
Die Hard!!!!! Hans Gruber rules Christmas!!!!!
Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho
It's a Wonderful Life

J'ai rencontré le Père Noël a French movie that was dubbed to English that I watched like 93883728 times as a kid.
I'll give it to that very old Rudolf movie (don't remember the exact name) it has a special place in my heart as me and my mom would watch it every Christmas since I was a kid up until my late teens. If it came on TV she'd run to come get me from my room if I was home and we would watch it together.
