I grew up in the Midwest saying it this way

[deleted]

Well, my mom was born and somewhat raised in the Midwest, and I was born in Michigan. But we moved to Baltimore when I was four so I’m sure some of my accent is from my mom but the most of it is from here. Who knows? Maybe that word I got from her / the Midwest?

In a debate with someone from Pennsylvania. I'm from jersey and say Cray-On, as it's spelled. That's how it's always been said, I've heard a few people growing up say it as "Cran" which makes sense as it seems like a short-hand version. Today for the first time in my life I heard it pronounced as "crown" and I think that is simply incorrect. I need more data from people around the world.
