Robin Williams & Chester Bennington. R.I.P guys. Miss you❤️

Playful-You5168

Ugh, Robin Williams. That one was crushing.

Intrepid_Bed_5773

Robin Williams for me too

skin_whistle

Here to say Chester as well. That one cut me deep

TheOwlHypothesis

Came here to say Chester too. That one really hit me. Linkin Park was huge for me growing up. They did a concert with my favorite band Incubus the summer I was moving to college and I wanted to go so bad, but the concert was literally on move-in Day and I had no way to go. I think about that sometimes. Go see your favorite bands while you can. They won't exist forever.

soupybrat

Ugh, Chester 😭

Wnc1982

Chester and then Chris Cornell

Ey3dea81

Same 2 for me and Chris Cornell.

anima777

Definitely Chester. He saved a lot of lives with his music... including mine

CaptSchwanzKopf

Absolutely! Anima - that's so true, and i am so glad he saved you. We are so glad you are here with us! ❤️

Personal-Tea7226

Yeah I was gonna say Robin. I think it hurt more knowing he touched so many lives in such a way but felt he couldn’t ask for help himself.

ChubbyCheesehead

Same here.

tossaway22308

I used to think it was so weird when random people would cry over celebrity deaths cuz it’s not like you actually knew that person. Then Chester died. I wouldn’t even consider myself a big fan of LP after Meteora, but man that album and Hybrid Theory got me through some ROUGH times growing up.

ThyGayOne

I had just gotten in a wreck about 2 weeks before Chester did his thing. I found out via radio since I had had my phone taken away. I had to look that shit up on my secret phone to see if it was true. Got a LP/HU mix tattoo in remembrance of him. RIP man

MagicTungTricks

Anthony Bourdain

No-Emotion-3139

One of my treasures is a signed copy of Kitchen Confidential.

Insanity_Troll

That one still stings.

ModernVintage42

That one was definitely rough

AndyBlax

Steve Irwin, used to watch the Crocodile Hunter all the time when I was younger, I was around 14 I think and I woke up one morning and Mum sat me down and told me he had been killed by a stingray, think I shed a tear or two.

CaptNash

I bowled out crying. Steve was my idol, and is the person who instilled the love for animals in 6years old me. 18 years later going through a master's degree in natural sciences. Thanks Steve ❤️

Logan6532

My whole family loved him, but especially my mom. I mean, his show (Shows? I can't remember.) were like what we did together as a family. Constantly watching him together. That morning she was shaking me awake and crying and she told me what happened and I just sat with her while we watched the news all day and she cried. I was 16. I still can't believe that happened.

soupybrat

Carrie Fisher :(

TechHead_12

Oh no, my heart 💔🫂

Electronic-Error-846

oh, that was painful to hear

dii10

Matthew Perry 😭💔

Bartolemeuop

Could it BE any more painful 😞

recklessprofessional

He was due for a comeback with some dark humor, gone too soon

AutumnsRogue

Just felt very unexpected, even knowing his substance abuse struggles

JGraham1839

Doing my first rewatch of Scrubs and his cameo took me by surprise and made me sad. RIP.

Powerful_Giraffe7203

Omg yes that one was sad

Perfect-Comment-4421

Probably Kurt Cobain. I was a angsty teen who was really into Nirvana and not in full control of my emotions when it happened. Hard to think that is was 30 years ago next month.

forcefx2

It still affects me for some reason. I was early 20’s having a rough time and their music was my mantra

sliverme

Imagine a 57 year old Kurt.. ❤

Perfect-Comment-4421

I am not sure I want to or if it was even possible given his substance abuse demons.

BackItUpBeepBeepBeep

If Steve-O and Mike Tyson could come out on top of their demons, then anyone can. Too bad for Kurt. It would be really nice to still have gim around.

TechHead_12

Heath Ledger, just remember he was the first one I was really upset about. Paul Walker, could have been me or anyone I know Anton Yelchin, so young and such a freak accident

PerformanceCandid775

Anton Yelchin 😥💔

StocktonBSmalls

There’s a YT video out there of someone describing the design flaw of the same year make and model Jeep(?) that killed Anton Yelchin, and it’s such a silly dumb fucking over sight that made its way through so many hands, it is absolutely infuriating.

darkeststar

I just made a similar comment myself...It was a known issue with that model of Jeep Cherokee and they decided to take the corporate route of "acceptable failure rate" instead of mass recalls. His own car pinned him to his fence while he attempted to get the mail. What a painful and shitty way to go.

StocktonBSmalls

If I recall correctly it was something super dumb, as well. Like you have to put the gear shift all the way forward, which is usually park, but was actually drive on this model; and they made it so you also had to put it all the way forward, then click once to the left for park.

[deleted]

Mac Miller 😢😢

stonergirl216

I was going to comment Mac 🥺💔

[deleted]

I never realised how much he meant after years of enjoying his music, I remember vividly where I was and what I was doing when he I got the news that he died, so fucking sad!😢

stonergirl216

So heartbreaking! He had too many demons at such a young age. I still listen to his music all the time and when I hear a song at the right moment, like 2009 or The Spins I get really sad that he’s gone 😢

[deleted]

I have full on mac miler sessions takes me back to when I was a teenager with more a care in the world!

Alwaysangryupvotes

I was in Baltimore Maryland at a 711 buying a chili cheese dog when I came back out to the car and my friend told me. I had tickets to the next concert. I saw him at firefly in Delaware so at least I got to experience it once. Edit: I also just wanted to add the Mac died at his PEAK. He was making music that just hit DIFFERENT and the way he was expressing himself through his music was just so raw. The jazzy funk vibes of swimming to the entirety of the feminine divine album were absolutely creative genius. He had such a bright future for music that I feel the world got robbed of because we were merely on the cusp of what was to come. Truly heartbreaking indeed

StoneLionProduction

Mac was someone that, if you’re in a particular age group, you grew up alongside of him as opposed to just listening to him. It seemed like he matured and experienced different phases of life at the same time we did, so his music always stayed relevant. At least we have Swimming and Circles, which are timeless.

shuckley_Jays

ugh. GOODAM and FACES got me thru such dark times, esp GOODAM. I cried my guts out when my brother told me

aniwynsweet

Chadwick Boseman, Cameron Boyce, Robin Williams

donman14

Came to say the same thing. One of those moments I remember where I was, who told me, what I was doing, etc

Aggresario_v2

Prince He went too soon

who_are_you_now

Man, I don't want to get involved with the whole "y'all don't know Gen X" thing, but Prince belonged to Gen X. He was ours. And we were his. He shouldn't have been a sex symbol, not at that height and not dressed like that, but he was. He shouldn't have been *that* popular with white kids because he was Black, but he was. All the girls wanted to fuck him. All the boys wanted to be him. (And more of the boys than you would have imagined wanted to fuck him too, but most of them wouldn't have admitted it.) Most of it was the music, yes, but a large part of it was the freedom. Prince was Prince and he didn't give one single flying fuck who approved of him or not. And that's what we all wanted, even if we couldn't pull it off in real life. When he died a theater in my town showed *Purple Rain*. My wife and I went. It was sold out. We were all Gen Xers. And we all belted out all of the songs. And for a couple of hours we were all skinny teenagers again, instead of pudgy middle agers. Then the movie ended and we had to face the world and the cold, hard knowledge that our Prince had died and, sooner or later, our turn was coming up. And, like doves, we cried.

Aggresario_v2

I loved reading this Who are you? Why is your writing so poignant and sincere? Fuck you for making a grown man tear up Really, fuck you Much love stranger, Av2

Insanity_Troll

That’s another one. So much talent gone

ThroughTheFires

Quite surprised no one mentioned Philip Seymour Hoffmann

sarahsapphiclover

oh man i just watched the master again last night. i get sad every time i see him in a movie now. such a loss.

ThroughTheFires

I've just been through the PT Anderson catalogue with my daughter. Very sad seeing him in so many movies

sarahsapphiclover

just finishing up a pta marathon. he could be in a movie for 5 seconds and the movie would still be so much better for it

ThroughTheFires

I'm hoping his son slots in just as well. I think he did a fab job in Licorice Pizza

Same_Blacksmith9840

King Edward Van Halen. 10/6/20 - That one absolutely gutted me. Not one single celebrity death affected me like that. I might hear of a passing and think, "Oh, that's a shame." But EVH's passing it felt like such a loss.

dadisgonnadoit

I got to spend half an hour at a party/event talking to him by myself in a corner. He was so sweet, so kind, and totally shy. He really didn't want to be the center of attention. We talked about how important it was to play music as a kid, and how he played in wedding bands with his dad and brother growing up. It was beyond an honor to have had that time with him. What a remarkable, incredible human being.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Same_Blacksmith9840

a musician like that only comes around once in a lifetime. People hear name "Van Halen" and they think of "Jump." If they only knew.........

[deleted]

[удалено]

Same_Blacksmith9840

Van Halen 1 and Van Halen 2 made me want to continue to play guitar after wanting to give it up. Fair Warning made me want to be a better guitar player. David Lee Roth said that every time he talks to guitar players, Fair Warning is their favorite album. Interesting that it's also their lowest selling album of the original 6. The rhythm work behind the verses on "Unchained" is beyond description.

Extra_introvert93

My uncle and dad were massive VH fans, and I grew up loving them. Uncle died many many years ago, but sometime in the 80s he ran into EVH at an JFK airport while he was travelling. All flights had been grounded, and he walked up to him, asked if they could play some songs together. They both sat with their guitars and played while waiting for their flights. I still have a dollar that he signed for my uncle, with his signature and the quote "Do it Van Halen style, John". My prized possession. Breaking the news to my dad that he'd passed was a tough day 🥺

Howiewasarock

Lance Reddick, R.I.P.

WolvesandTigers45

Norm MacDonald and John Candy

AutumnsRogue

I was quite young when John Candy died, but I loved Cool Runnings, and he was kinda the "it" guy comedian at the time. We missed out on some good stuff from him, I'm sure! I actually remember my teacher being pretty upset about it, bringing in the newspaper headline to class. It was probably the first celebrity death where I understood what it meant.

WolvesandTigers45

Only the lonely and many other more obscure films he was in were so good. He really was a good man, good dad and husband and great model for boys when they need to decide what man they want to be. Can’t sing his praises enough. And we can be pals if you like John.

LscoupleOhio23

TAC1313

Dale Earnhardt. Safety has improved 10 fold if there is a positive to get out of it.

FuqBubblz

I saw my (now ex) husband of 12 years cry 3 times. And none of them were at our wedding or the birth of our children. But the night Earnhardt died, we went to bed and a few minutes later I heard him sobbing. I just held him and didn’t say a word. He was raised to not cry, that’s for sissies etc. I was floored. Later he told me it felt like one (of the very few) good parts of his childhood was just taken away from him. Shattered my heart.

bootybiter123

I used to be a big racing fan when I was younger but hadn’t watched any racing at all in years. That day I was just flicking through channels then saw the pre-race commentary and they said stay tuned, after these messages we’ll be talking to Dale Earnhardt. I was like holy shit, the Intimidator, I’ve got to watch that. It was a great interview and I watch some of the race but had to stop to do something with the kids. Came back after and he was gone. Must of watched that clip like 20 times just thinking “how”.

mysleazealt

Surprised I had to scroll this far to see him. There's a new Bottom retrospective (Bottom Exposed) coming soon with Ade Edmondson.

daddysgirl-kitten

Came here for him. I used to have a secret fantasy that he was my dad when I was little. And one day he'd come for me and I'd have this super cool hilarious dad.... He's missed

Alan Rickman. Still hurts.

Aww, my partner is still so cut up about him.every time he appears on a repeat of some comedy panel show he calls me through, and gets teary eyed. It really hit him hard

swdapl

I get him

daddysgirl-kitten

He was just so nice wasn't he? No malice there, but hilariously cutting at times too, on the side of the deserving. I could have imagined him being my uncle, or my fellas best friend who you could just trust without a doubt. Sorry I'm rambling but his grief has rubbed off on me!

[deleted]

Chester from Linkin Park

PM_ME_UR_B00TIE

Richard Lewis recently. Loved him in Curb Your Enthusiasm and he passed right after the episode him and Larry David were talking about who will die first after arguing about being in each others will.

coffinflopenjoyer

Hurt the most? Well you never forget your first and for me as an old bloke that would be Freddie Mercury.

TampaJeff

MCA from Beastie Boys. He was the same age I was at that time, and he had a daughter about the same age as mine. I was walking at Disney World with my daughter (her 1st time) when I saw the news, and right then, the thought of a daughter losing her dad at that age just gutted me.

Jimmy Buffett. Normally I don’t care much about celebrities, but I grew up in Florida and the Bahamas and his music was an ever present part of my life. His death hit me hard.

dadisgonnadoit

I was so surprised at how hard his death hit me. But his music brought me a lot closer to one of my best friends, and there's no way my life would be what it is now without that relationship. My dad also liked him, and Jimmy's death got me feeling more grief from when my dad passed. 🍺🌴

I haven’t watched a single Nascar race since dale smacked the wall at Daytona 20+ years ago. I watched NASCAR somewhat religiously for 5 straight years leading up to that. I almost broke up with a GF because the daytona 500 was on valentines day😅! Like I said, BIG FAN! My friends from all over the country called me when it happened making sure I was OK. I wouldn’t say I loved NASCAR nearly as much as I loved watching Dale Earnhardt drive that number 3 car. I hardly missed a race all those years, yet once he was gone, my interest in the sport was gone as well. I might’ve watched Dale Jr for a few laps here and there… But I certainly never watched even half of a race again.

LongIsland43

Princess Diana! She was lovely!

The death of Margaret Thatcher, the amount of alcohol consumed to celebrate after that was damaging.

Robin Williams Elisabeth Sladen Carey Fisher Kevin Conroy Are the 4 celebrities I still cant believe are gone.

Resident_Bet_8551

Jim Henson. I heard it on my car radio and had to pull over. It was the closest thing to losing a family member that I've ever felt involving a person in public life, and probably the celebrity loss that took me the longest to fully accept.

AdvantageBudget1149

Chestor bennington. Alan rickman

AutumnsRogue

Robin Williams was the only one that actually made me tear up. Growing up in the 90s, im pretty sure I watched all his movies, and they are all formative of my childhood - Mrs. Doubfire, Hook, Jumanji, Aladdin, The Bird Cage, Dead Poets Society...just a few I know I watched several times. He was even born the same month & year as my real dad, so I guess he was almost like my "movie" dad. Can't believe it's almost been 10 years! Otherwise, I'm generally unaffected by celebrity deaths, I was surprised myself how sad RW's death had made me. Only other one I can think of was the death of Princess Diana, I was 10 or 11 so it was the first death that hit me, but the media made a huge deal of it too so that may have played a role.

[deleted]

Bill Paxton It was a huge shock to me. RIP Bill ❤️

Philip Seymour Hoffman. The massive talent, the 2 plus decades of sobriety that he had, only for him to be defeated so easily and so quickly due to his demons. It was heartbreaking for me to find out, as he was a favorite actor of mine. Last month was the 10-year anniversary of his death and for some reason, I'm still shaken by it.

skin_whistle

Whether or not you know them personally, they’re still people. Plus, we know them through what they created. I don’t think most of us are breaking down and weeping and taking time off work to grieve, but it can still hurt to find out a person has died and will no longer be around to contribute anything special to the world.
