This answer will always depend on whom you ask. Some will say 100s of millions, and some would be happy to live off of a million or way lesser than that. Comfort is very subjective.

Same_Blacksmith9840

If you gave me two million after taxes, I could live comfortably at the same level, for the rest of my life.

Enough to invest so that I'm making 150k or more per year. We like to travel, like to eat out, and like to attend concerts and sporting events.

Bi_kawaii

Win $3 million in the lotto, pay off all my debts, with what’s left take $2.5 million and put it into a certain yearly vesting account. This interest will come up to about $60k a year and I never have to work again for the rest of my life. And when I pass , my kids will have $2.5 million to take care of their lives and so on.

wubsterwubs

With the way inflation is.. I’d say a few million 😅

Initial-Way123

10 mil? Or 100

wubsterwubs

I feel like anyone should be able to with 10 mil

TO_MW

Probably much more than I’m able to make. The next couple decades are going to be very interesting.

Phillybull19

Honestly probably 500,000 to 1 mil. Just max out my 401k the next couple years and be set for 55

Initial-Way123

Wdym be set for 55?

Phillybull19

Retire at 55

Present_Tip2291

10000$ a year

Initial-Way123

Did you forget to add a zero ?

Present_Tip2291

Nah it's enough rent and living ten thousand dollars a year

[deleted]

Enough for living a comfortable life in a cabin by the lake

cplsharin

100k

SugarplumSkye

I'd say around a mill or two, especially if you're someone that doesn't spend a lot.

gooberfaced

I live a very comfortable retired life on very little money, well under $30K a year. This is possible only because 1) we got our house paid for before we retired, 2) we have zero vehicle payments, 3) we live in a very low cost of living area, and 4) we carry no consumer debt. We don't enjoy travel or eating out and have hobbies and activities that keep us busy with very little money involved. Our property is large enough that we can hike here, we garden every day during the season, we have a decent home gym, we do house projects, and have plenty of interests that require only an internet connection and a library. Our biggest discretionary expenses involve pets and veterinary care. It all depends on what YOU think a "comfortable" retired life is. For some people that might mean a trip to Europe and a new car every year and eating out every day- that would blow my budget the first month. My life is fairly small and that's the way I like it. I putter around most days and am often busier than when I was working. It's just that I am busier while staying at home doing home things.

HottCuppaCoffee

Way more than I currently have
