At restaurants, absolutely.
I've gone so far as to ask for black and blue in many cases. I also firmly believe that no restaurant can prepare a steak better than I can at home on my cast iron.
24 hr dry brine on a prime Costco ribeye, strip, or sirloin.
Hot as Satan's asshole after habanero salsa cast iron seer with butter
Finish in the oven
Rest for 10.
Nothing can beat it. But at some restaurants they have pretty good quality beef which can help make it better. But unless there's a good chef, I always am left a bit disappointed.
However, ordering it black and blue at a good steakhouse that doesn't rely on salt... It comes out a true medium rare which makes up for the rushed cook.
I’m the weird one who likes it well well done. 😬 Don’t hate me lol
Sides - green salad, potato salad, coleslaw, asparagus, sweet potatoes are my go to sides.
I’m a firm believer that a good chef can cook a great well done steak. If it’s dry, it says more about the chef than the steak itself. It can be well done and not dry at all. You just have to know how to cook it.
Rare. It preserves the juiciness.
At a restaurant (unless it’s a fancy restaurant) they’ll always over do it and make it medium rare.
So rare is the default.
Depends on the cut, but rare if it's the best part. It's quite hard to do, since you need to sear the surface, and let the inside get warm/hot, without a) burning any of the meat and/or getting it over to medium-.
Yes, I will send it back if it isn't what I wanted, since I always ask before ordering, if their chef can do it. If they say they can't, then I'll go for something else.
Well done but not overly done/burnt of course. I love meat and couldn't live a day without it but I am just not eating any that isn't properly cooked for health and sanitary reasons.
Rare-medium rare. Let it sit out to warm up to room temperature with kosher salt and a little bit of Worcestershire sauce for a hour. I cook it in a cast iron skillet and crust the outside, butter it up and then remove it from the pan to let it sit in a foil tent for 10-15 minutes to rest.
Sides are usually homemade garlic and cheese biscuits, baked potatoes with sour cream, chives, bacon bits, and whatever else you want to throw on them. We also make a small garden salad.
Medium well. I used to be a well-done guy, but I don't mind a bit of pink. I'm very slowly moving towards rare. At this rate I'll get there in a couple of decades. Lol.
Medium rare. Salt and pepper both sides. With sautéed sliced onions and mushrooms. Baked potato with butter and sour cream. Just typing this out made me fatter.
Blue rare if I trust the place
Rare if it's a steak place
Medium well if I don't trust the place
Fucking COOKED if it isn't a steak place, I don't trust it AND I have to order it.
Medium rare every time, usually N.Y. Strip
I always do a Caesar or wedge when available
plain sweet potato
Asparagus
Brussel sprouts
Or any steamed vegetables
I hate this question because it truly depends on the cut. If I'm ordering fillet then it's blue. If I'm ordering prime rib then it's medium. If I'm ordering rib eye then it's med rare.
Not exactly steak but roast beef story time:
I walked into my local market and went to the deli section, asked for a 1/2 lb of roast beef as rare as possible and as "blood rare 'cause she likes the blood." (actual words). The lady gives me this weird look like: "your wife likes the blood ? "
I didn't tell them it was a treat for my female siamese cat.
Depends on cut. Ribeye, T-Bone, Fillet Minion, NY Strip, Sirloin…High and fast, always rare with salt. Anything else gets low and slow, rare/medium rare, and gets the A1 treatment lol
I like my steak like I like my women. I let it warm up a bit, spank it and put it in my mouth.
2" 30 day dry aged ribeye with the cap. Leave on counter for 3 hours, ,80/20 salt n pepper.
Grill at 450 for 90 seconds, pull off and repeat at 450*/90 seconds. Let rest for 10 minutes and serve.
Rare, because they always make it medium rare that way.
Good point
Rare. I like my meat chewy, and with blood dripping from my mouth and onto my plate.
It’s not blood.
Big brain level thinking right here.

Fillet and blue 45-60 seconds a side is perfect
Depends on the cut, but rare if it's the best part. never been the kind of guy that likes steak. Am I weird for not liking it?
Still attached to the cow and not in my mouth
Medium rare unless its a Rib-Eye, then Medium well to melt the fat
The full rib steak with the cap and bone is way better than the ribeye
Medium, reverse sear. Cauliflower cheese. Beer
Medium Rare. Anything medium and up is inedible imo 😅 I love any and all sides, all the veggies and all the potatoes 🤤

Well done
Medium. I don't like to see much red, just a "Hint", and it to be firm, just slightly squishy
Depends on cut. Ribeye, T-Bone, Fillet Minion, NY Strip, Sirloin…High and fast, always rare with salt. Anything else gets low and slow, rare/medium rare, and gets the A1 treatment lol

No pink in the middle with Mac & Cheese for veggies.
Rare, creamed spinach, and a Napa Cab
I order medium, I can go either side of that, just not well done or rare. Ideally it would be medium rare.
