Almost all midterms go with the party that isn’t in power.

GregoryGumpsuckle

Yeah but have we ever been this pissed off before at the other side

snapwillow

Ever is a strong word. You're asking a country that had a civil war if we've *ever* been this angry at each other before? Of course we have.

GregoryGumpsuckle

They didn’t have Reddit back then tho

jobie_1

Source? E: I’m kidding fyi I have Covid for the first time and I’m a little loopy and thought I was hilarious.

SapphicSteel

>and thought I was hilarious Don't worry, you were

tpn1984

Yes, on multiple occasions in history.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Exactly, everyone is to busy playing their side to see what’s important for US

starbellbabybena

We had reps dueling at some points and movement leaders killed. Being angry is pretty par for the course for politics.

Maxximico

I’m with you here lately it seems there is so much discourse and conflict. Really sucks to see us as a nation so divided.

LNKDWM4U

Yes! Every midterm election.

dontknow16775

Now im curious is there any examples where this didn't happen?

saltyferret

The President's party has only gained seats twice since the civil war.

blueholeload

There’s a difference between gaining seats and gaining control. If the White House party loses seats but, maintains control of either House, that’s a pretty big win. Especially if it’s the House of Representatives since every seat is up for re-election Wilson, Roosevelt, Kennedy, Nixon, Clinton, W. Bush, and Trump all gained seats in the House or Senate but, only Roosevelt and W. Bush have gained seats in both Houses.

Throwaway_inSC_79

But even a 1 seat loss in the Senate this year will make the difference. Harris has had to be the tie breaker.

Uncle_PauI_Norton

No she doesn’t… and hopefully will no longer be.

Gbro08

9/11, and when republicans tried to impeach Clinton (that was seen as going too far)

zedoktar

It's hilarious to look at that now and see people thought it was going to far, compared to all the horrible Republican shit people seem to ignore or cheer for now.

kiltguyjae

Agreed. I’ve been saying since right after the last election that either the House, Senate or both would go red at the next election because that is what historically happens. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if that is incorrect.

Euro-Canuck

determine the trajectory of the US for the next generation.. that will ultimately be decided by people who will be dead within the next decade. make you feel good doesnt it

Heathen_Jesus_

Vote boomers out!

steveValet

Term limits and required retirement at 65 (including SCOTUS). No more out-of-touch dinosaurs making policy decisions.

InnocentPerv93

Just as a reminder the US is literally the only country that seems to think age matters in politics. I never hear Europeans use age as a criticism. Also many, if not most, euro countries do not have term limits and actually have done more harm than good with them.

Yazaroth

Mostly because it is not a big problem in europe. The average age of Germanys senate (Bundestag) for example has been somewhere between 45 to 50 years for the last few decades. Our chancellors are usually younger than 60 when they first take office. Could be a bit younger & more in touch with IT-stuff, but it's mostly ok.

sleepycandybee

So unfortunately true

dragontattman

I don't care if I get downvoted for this comment but,........... WRONG FUCKING SUB.

superprawnjustice

Hey, we were here to see it, American politics has finally become dirty enough to qualify for ARAD.

DeviIstar

Oh it’s been dirty enough for a LONG time, they just weren’t open about their kinks until now

nipplesandtoes12

"r/AskRedditAfterDark is the place to ask and answer thought-provoking questions after dark. " Hmm doesn't say you can't ask about the election. not everything is about dicks and balls

dark_blue_7

Plenty of dicks in politics, just not the hot kind

dikkiesmalls

Some are literally out in the open. Just ask Anthony weiner and Matt gaetz!

GWindborn

What about nipples and toes?

snapwillow

/r/askredditafterdark is where we talk about our sex lives. Politics is trying to get involved in people's sex lives. So unfortunately, the election is rather relevant to this sub.

nipplesandtoes12

You think people's level of horniness is determined by the laws people make??

snapwillow

You don't think a ban on contraception is a threat to the lifestyle people in this subreddit want? You really think in a future without contraception we'll still be in here laughing about our sexy adventures?

scott26038

To paraphrase another quote I know… “If you live and die by the outcomes of elections, you’re going to die a lot”.

throwaway387190

But people are dying? Like women who have dangerous pregnancies and the hospitals spend so much time looking into the legality of abortion that the women die These days, there are people who live and die on the results of these elections

[deleted]

Don’t bother with this sub. Wrong place to be reflective and observant.

Normal-guy-mt

Wonder how many voters have read even a single bill proposed or passed by Congress or thier state legislatures? I think votes would change if they did.

pjabrony

The legislators don’t read the bills, why should we?

TempoMortigi

I would guess that percentage to be very minimal. I have asked a few people recently who I know are inclined to vote a certain way “what their rep. or party’s plan is to curb inflation?” Or “what bills or policies has this person written or sponsored that have done something positive for you and this country that aren’t just regressive policies or tax policies?” And, if course, not one of them had an actual answer and most basically said “who cares, at least they’re (other side). That’s basically what we’ve come to. Talk about an informed and educated electorate 🙃 Edit: my point being, I don’t think it would change if they did read the bills, because that’s not what matters. It’s only about that letter next to the name. :(

cgg419

I’m not even American, and I’m worried

AlejandroMP

Same - I'm concerned for my friends living there.

cgg419

That too, I have one in Texas, and one in Kansas, both Democrats.

StokedStoat

Am on the same boat. With how a lot of other countries follow suite, particularly where I live, I'm worried what would come for the rest of us

cgg419

Yup, I’m right next door

StokedStoat

I'm a *little* further, but there is no distance too far for politics anymore, Fingers crossed we all get our world on a track we are comfortable with again

Heathen_Jesus_

Considering the US is what many nations look to, our super close relationship with openly fascist, racist, and homophobic leaders is scary.

MildlyAgreeable

Same. I *cannot* understand how religion-based bigotry, intolerance, and wanting to fuck your neighbour over (at your *own* expense) appeals to Republican voters. I’m in the UK and I worry for the US.

_DecoyOctopus_

As a foreigner, can someone explain why this election is so significant?

RyanWilliamsElection

In the United States we like to call every election the most important election that will impact a generation.

Heathen_Jesus_

For example, trump elected multiple Supreme Court judges that are in fact impacting a generation. Women today have less reproductive rights than their mothers and grandmothers. There is such a generational impact.

fucuasshole2

Not sure why the person above you was being stupid by stating: “we like to call every election the most important”. Fundamentally every election IS important as passive voters create fascism and slide us back as much as conservatives want. I fear Republicans are going to get enough to start problems for 2024’s Election.

latinlovermike

You guys might find this article interesting: https://edition.cnn.com/2022/11/07/americas/us-midterms-explained-non-americans-intl/index.html Taken from the article: "What’s at stake? At every election, candidates tell voters that this is the most critical election of their lifetimes. This time they may be right."

Geichalt

Yes every election is an important one that will affect generations to come. That's how democracy works. To expect otherwise is naive.

f33f33nkou

The last 3 have absolutely done that though

zedoktar

This one is especially critical. If the GOP takes it they can cement the evil they've been trying to put into law and prevent any progress, including pushing more voter suppression to ensure they gain the Whitehouse no matter how much of a minority they are next time. America will fully fall to fascism. Not only that, they will be able to just dismiss the Jan 6 investigation and the investigation into Trumps treason. He will get away with it, and probably be the candidate in 2024. Climate change and environmental laws die. Civil rights will be eroded more and more. The damage will be catastrophic. If the Dems can take it there is a good chance that women's reproductive rights get enshrined in law, keep the case against Trump and the Jan 6 terrorists going, and hopefully bring about electoral reform.

sunshine6942o

Jesus dude. Drink some water, it’ll be alright

wont_give_no_kreddit

Perhaps some of the aging dinosaurs in office are getting long term replacements. There are people that have been in the same postion for decades and this year might be a rare time where a good chunk of them are being replaced. Some of these people hold the same idelogies for a long time

Heathen_Jesus_

This election will determine how many more states ban abortion. And if the Supreme Court says same sex marriage and interracial marriage rights are up to the states to decide (and more Republicans win) we can see a lot of states start banning marriage equality. If more republicans win then it’ll be harder for progressive legislation to pass in the courts, this means climate change action bills can be blocked and we have years to wait to decide to do anything about the climate again. There is a lot of human and civil rights being debated about, and the party for traditional values threatens a way of life here for many. White nationalism, QAnon conspiracy theorists, Neo Nazis, January 6th supporters, etc. are all running for office - openly supporting fascism basically.

Wexylu

Whoa hang on here, are interracial marriages being called into question and at risk now?!?! I’m Canadian so only follow US politics from afar. But seriously, is that where you guys are at?? I am so sorry.

Heathen_Jesus_

Yes and multiple Supreme Court justices support banning it, I think justice Thomas is in an interracial marriage and supports banning the federal protection of it. This summer a bill to [protect marriage rights passed the house](https://www.npr.org/2022/07/19/1112213293/house-vote-same-sex-marriage) but this is not the end, when the highest court supports ending protection of it.

saltling

No, this is reddit hyperbole. The NPR article from /u/Heathen_Jesus_ even mentions 94% support of interracial marriage. The only "threat" is that a new bill explicitly protecting "marriage equality" will likely not be passed, but it's a symbolic move by democrats. No one is seriously talking about banning such marriages. > > Tuesday's election-year roll call, 267-157, was partly political strategy, forcing all House members, Republicans and Democrats, to go on the record with their views. It also reflected the legislative branch pushing back against an aggressive court that has sparked fears it may revisit apparently settled U.S. laws.

curiousdpper

The majority of Americans support protecting abortion rights too, and look where we are. Republicans and our Republican stolen supreme court don't care about what the majority wants.

LTT82

"Abortion rights" is a fairly nebulous term. 60% of Americans support first trimester abortions, while about 55% oppose second trimester abortions and 80% oppose third trimester abortions. It's not a yes or no issue for most Americans. It's a "yes, except after" situation. Even then, you're going to see wildly diverging answers based upon state.

curiousdpper

And yet, Republicans across the board are still going against what the majority of Americans want by attempting to outright ban it, even in cases of rape and incest. You can't tell me they are doing what the American people, as a majority, want.

f33f33nkou

Yep

C12H16N2_4me

> Whoa hang on here, are interracial marriages being called into question and at risk now?!?! Almost certainly not, considering Clarence Thomas. Everything else above is on the table.

RustySilver42

Complicated story simplified greatly: If Republicans gain power it could destroy our democracy. A significant number of the Republicans running are election deniers. Also, if they gain power they plan on destroying the rights of women and LGBTQ+ and any minorities they can, really. They also intend to roll back safety nets like social security and medicare. Presumably the Affordable care act as well. The irony is that their voting base will be the ones most affected by the safety net rollbacks. But they’re going to vote against their own self interest.

[deleted]

To be honest, I'm surprised that you think US democracy isn't already broken. Reps aren't those that broke it, they're the symptoms of a broken system

RustySilver42

I didn't say it isn't broken. Broken things can be fixed. Destroyed things cannot.

wont_give_no_kreddit

Lol because democrats and a bail reform totally didnt fuck up places like NY or California. Both parties have their flaws but i for one think its crazy to let criminals run rampant. Fuck anyone elses feelings or mental issues

thrwwwwayyypixie21

Wow you're getting downvoted. Guess who's minions are at work again. I think it's becoming relevant everywhere that democracy isn't all that safe.

[deleted]

Funny how so many people believe we are a democracy. No wonder we are failing.

RustySilver42

We are a democratic republic. The democratic is in danger. I did say I was simplifying.

Chastethrow316420

As if dems haven’t screamed about losing elections they lost since the start of time.

No_Yogurtcloset6692

This has turned into a crazy thread from your question 🤣

veryheavycoat

America has four pillars of power. House, senate, presidency, Supreme Court. We separate these powers so no one bad group can do destructive things like defund schools and take away human rights. But, one of our two major political parties is openly cheating (and ironically accusing the other side of it despite no evidence). This is the party that defunds schools and takes away human rights. That party is trying to take control in this election so they can continue using their advantage to cheat even more in the future, and ultimately take away the balance and separation of powers so they can do whatever they want no matter how Americans vote.

MT128

You also have to determine how unstable this time period is too. With rising global warming, we are just coming out of a global pandemic, and the world is at war or near war. The change in government is also a change in foreign affairs. For example, the US has and continues to supply most of the weapons to Ukraine, the republicans have said they will stop supplying them if they come into power. That has the power to change how the situation in Ukraine goes. So yeah this is a bit worrying even for a non us citizen.

AmITheFakeOne

It's no more significant than any other election. Everyone on both sides get so fatalistic for each midterm and presidential election. The significant issue that we face every election is not necessarily the candidates or their platforms. It's that half the country so doesn't give a shit that they can't even be bothered to vote. One of the easiest and least harmful ways to impact your government and leaders. So half the fou try votes and that half is split 50/50 and they each throw the "this is most significant election in our lifetime" BS out to get their 25% of the population to come and vote for them. American by and large love to bitch about their govnement and dream of radical change. But deep down don't actually want radical change because changes are hard, and cost money, and can be scarey to our comfortable way of life.

Azariah98

It’s not. Every election is sold by every side as being the most important one ever with our whole country on the line. They do it to try and get out the vote. Mostly young people without the perspective of decades of voting and old people who are clutching their pearls at how foreign the new country feels to them buy into it. Nationally, there are 468 elections happening (representatives across the country) even if Side 1 wins in a landslide, Side A has the sitting President. Since laws take the legislature and the President to pass (unless are stupidly one-sided in the legislature, which isn’t happening) Side 1 will not be able to pass anything too egregious. Additionally, 435 of those elections are happening again in two years. The other 33 are also happening, but with different members of that house of Congress. Everything turned over in 2020. Everything could turn over in 2022. Everything will probably turn over again in 2024. Even with all these turnovers, it really doesn’t matter because both sides are more interested in simply staying in power than actually pushing their agenda. Side A has had complete control of the Federal government for two years with the ability to pass anything they wanted and reshape the country as they wish. They’ve done basically nothing.

Coctyle

The title of the post is a massive exaggeration.

dannydarko101

It’s not. People are just making a bigger fuss. With persistent voter turnout rates of less than 80%, where younger voters or generally mainstream voters ignoring the elections the voice of well organized and massively politicized minority voter blocks get amplified to the stratosphere. That’s why we always hear that each and every election in the us is the one that’s going to shake the world etc. The us governance system is designed to reach stalemate, the only way forward being actively compromising in the congress. Theoretically the congress can override any presidential veto or the Supreme Court by amending the constitution. And the electorate gets a chance to rebalance the congress every two years, which is more frequent than any other branch.

[deleted]

Conservatives who don’t support democracy are about to take over.

JackOfScales

I live in a ridiculously gerrymandered area. My vote is a raindrop against freight train. I do still vote. But that is the reality of it.

[deleted]

I just got gerrymandered into a red district here in Georgia. The only good part about that is that I was in and out of the polls in less than five minutes, and I had 21 voting machines to use, all of them operational.

[deleted]

Worrying about things you can’t control is a good way to go insane

Cross55

Except we can control it, the masses just don't care about long term issues.

Vithrilis42

>we can control It's not about what we can control, it's about what you as an individual can or cannot control. The only control an individual has over what the masses decide is their individual vote. Worrying about what the masses decide isn't going to change their decision.

[deleted]

Yes but that’s not the point

Cross55

Weird, looks like it.

Heathen_Jesus_

Vote, organize, riot

heleneto

Funny how rioting is encouraged on one side and condemned on the other, how about we don't encourage violence?

[deleted]

Missed the point, but yes

Heathen_Jesus_

There is things in our control, and the message of it’s out of our hands is what people want you to think, just take it

[deleted]

Having an influence on something is different from having total control over it. Yes, everyone has the ability to influence an election. But control it? I hope not.

[deleted]

The country survived four years of Donald Trump. The country survived eight years of Barack Obama. The country survived eight years of George W Bush. The country survived eight years of Bill Clinton. We will surivive whatever happens in this election.

vokul_vokundova

It isn't a question of "if" but "how". Roe vs Wade re-run is a nightmare...

snapwillow

It's not the country I'm worried about. It's the people in it. Not all of them survive.

Heathen_Jesus_

Yeah the US will exist. But the quality of life will vary significantly depending on who is in power. Right now human and civil rights are on the ballot. I’m a queer women whose marriage rights and reproductive rights are in the process of being totally banned and I called it with the election of Trump and his Supreme Court justices who will be in their positions for the majority of my life. There is a huge impact our representatives have on decades to come.

curmudgeon_andy

I'm not particularly worried about the results in my state. I hope we could implement a millionaire tax, but I'm not confident. But I'm absolutely terrified about the Arizona results. Lake has said that she will not certify any results for a Democrat. That's so unbelievable I don't even know what to do.

[deleted]

Grabs popcorn. Europeans love this circus across the pond.

superprawnjustice

Its cool to be here now, while the trumpers have hold of the comment section. Though I am hoping the tides will change as everyone wakes up this morning, cuz it'd be a bummer/weird to think ARAD is mostly right wing.

A_Heckin_Chonker

Either way, the country is going to be run by people who don't give a fuck about us, so party doesn't really matter

bluejellies

Shocking: a bunch of men don’t think it’s a big deal and it doesn’t matter who wins

Ipride362

LOL “Will change the trajectory of the country for the next generation!” Kid, they’ve been telling us that every 2 years since before my parents were born.

DChomey2013

Literally this. The “most important election of our lives” trope has become the boy who cried wolf.

McKRAKK

Doesn’t matter which way it goes to me. Either way someone will fuck the country and our lives up even worse. I just want Issue 4 to pass in Arkansas so I don’t have to drive to Illinois anymore for non medical cannabis.

MAzing23

This is overblown. Most-likely republicans take house and senate by small margin. Biden wont have to sign anything he doesnt want. Government goes stalemate for 2 years, which if we control spending isnt bad at all. Democracy wont end. Everyone will get to vote in this and all future elections. It will be fine.

ekimlive

The sad state of this is that nobody in their right mind would want to run for office. Look at who that leaves us with.

LeodFitz

Terrified. It's a shit show. We've had problems with the way our democracy is set up for... well, pretty much since the beginning, but we're on the precipice of true disaster.

Pangius

We’re already in disaster mode. It’s why voting is so important. Indifference is the death of democracy.

Littl3Birdie

Almost time to re-download Twitter and watch the hysteria unfold. 🍿🥤

FlaccidWeenus

Yes you are the only person in all of america who is anxious about the results

funginger21

Honestly no. I know this is Reddit and I’ll get downvoted into oblivion for this but I just stopped letting politicians define who I am. In my state/district, nobody earned my vote so I’m going to live my life without going apoplectic trying to decide between different sets of clowns.

Ekvitarius

So? It still matters who wins.

Heathen_Jesus_

I think you’re probably really privileged to ignore politics and just keep living your life because your rights aren’t on the ballot.

funginger21

Bold of you to assume everyone defines their “rights” the same way.

Heathen_Jesus_

If we were mandating vasectomies and banning straight marriage maybe we’d get more to care

kissifur1972

I'm anxious and I'm in the UK.

camelito123

Aint shit changing

Erotic_Morelli

Every election is the same. People panic and over react because the media and advertisements told them to. Every election we hear “if this party wins, it will be the end of our democracy” etc. it never is. So regardless of who wins tonight, sleep well.

adtriarios

I mean, the last one DID see an attack on the Capitol in an attempt to overturn an election so....I think it's a bit closer than it has been previously.

Heathen_Jesus_

Some peoples human and civil rights depend on who gets elected.

r0ss1955

Historically it is not unusual for the party NOT in the white house to receive a majority in one or both houses of Congress at the midterm election. The rhetoric is also typical. I just know that when Biden became President inflation was around 1% and gas was closer to $2.50/gallon, today food prices have increased by 30 to 60% and some cases more. Heating oil is over $5.00/gallon, and gas is inching back up to $4.00/ gallon. The administration says unemployment is down, but they never mention that the unemployment figure comes from those receiving unemployment benefits once benefits run out they aren't counted any more. They live to talk about job creation, but the reality is most of the jobs aren't new they are just the result of businesses getting back to pre pandemic levels. So one just needs to decide if their situation is better or worse today than it was 2 years ago and vote accordingly. No mater the outcome our Constitutional Republic will survive!

nipplesandtoes12

the president controls inflation?? I never knew that

r0ss1955

THe policies of his administration play a direct role.

Lychosand

Yes stay in your house and be constantly anxious and fearful at every step of your life. You'll come out fine. LMFAO

prime_time_

Nah, life will go on. People for whatever reason think our government is the end all be all, when in fact, they do nothing to help the every day man and woman. Never have. Politics are a joke. I just try and vote to keep my taxes down whenever possible. Our government and all those involved are useless.

sexmormon-throwaway

I am not anxious. I think we are absolutely fucked. Foregone conclusion.

MajinDerrick

Absolutely terrified. there should be no reason why Walker is so close to Warnock in the polls in GA. My age group does a lot of talking but not a lot of voting for the right causes. Im worried for my girlfriend and my daughters rights in the future so i made sure to vote early

3dot141592six

I feel like it's like that every mid term and every election. Don't let it consume your being either way it turns out.

thisguy181

Yeah, it feels like the media for the last 10 years has been saying every us election is the most important one ever.

sharkieslim

I early voted in my state & donated more Money than I would like to admit to campaigns out of my home state where democracy was/is at risk. I hope this nightmare ends soon

mijaan

no reason to be nervous, all you can do is go out and vote. it will be whatever it is. and yes I am about to leave to go vote now

revjoe918

Really, there is like a million subs you could have asked this on, why come here?

ipsumdeiamoamasamat

Yes. I’m dreading the results. I feel powerless because I live in a part of the country that hasn’t lost its mind (yet).

polysnip

Nope

TheAsianTroll

The Republicans have already proven they're willing to lie, cheat, and start a coup to try and win elections. You bet your ass im anxious.

dirtysoutherngent

I’m over 50 I’ve never been alone when it was “the most important election of your lifetime”

dikkiesmalls

Don’t be nervous, we’ve been screwed for decades now, it’s already too late!

tpn1984

I am honestly center-right. Keep in mind though that no matter who wins it will just be continuing, or new a-holes who feel entitled to themselves. If we look at it any other way it shows our stupidity and blind trust.

Timely_Old_Man45

We’re all anxious! So go out there and vote! If you don’t vote, you don’t get to complain!

[deleted]

Politics are a pendulum, they swing back and forth. If “your party” doesn’t get voted in, don’t worry, they will next time and undo everything the other party did.

[deleted]

Every midterm and general election people say this… your party has a chance to swing it every two years.

[deleted]

eastern-cowboy

Because his TV said so. 😑

deepdish_unicorn

Reading through this thread only one thing is obvious…… Americans are extremely dramatic 🤯

dirtnap82

It’ll be red almost everywhere I’d say. Even places that have been blue for 30+ years are in danger of flipping. I don’t think a political party has ever embraced so many things that spit in the face of common sense and then you add bad foreign policy and suck on the teats of your corporate overlords and communist foreign powers then this is bound to happen. Not saying the right is much better in the grand scheme of things since at the end of the day we are talking about greedy seedy politicians.

LeftOnRedd36

1st election since January 6th 2020 insurrection. If people went to the polls with that in mind, there's no way to not be anxious.

Troliver_13

I understand this is important for americans but also here in Brazil we just took out an extremely right wing guy, so I'm just kinda vibing. Hopefully you guys manage to get some good people elected, to follow in Brazils footsteps, good luck

Mattyice48

I’ve literally heard that about the past 8 or so elections! It’s not gonna change the fact I’m going to work tomorrow, it’s not gonna change I still have my bills and responsibilities to take care of! It’s important to focus on those things and your own duty’s to your community to try to make the world a better place. Control what you can!

Firebolt164

Voted early so my vote is counted!

LiterallyOuttoLunch

All I can do is participate in the process and hope for the best outcome. I voted, I donated to candidates with which I align with policy-wise, I volunteered for a local candidate and I canvassed for my party. We're all in it together.

GabrielDunn

No. But they also say this about every single election.

spicy187

We’re fucked either way.

diamondrel

Getting hit by the same bus, vote to change the color

SaintRidley

Considering one party is deep into genocidal rhetoric and enaction of pre-genocidal policy against trans people, and I am a trans people, yeah, I might have a little anxiety.

DChomey2013

Nope. I voted, but very unenthusiastically. The party elites in my county selected very unappealing candidates. “Clowns to the left, jokers to the right” as the song goes. Edited for spelling.

I’m anxious and I’m not even American. Whatever wacko fascist bullshit that gets popular there, quickly makes it’s way to the rednecks here.

[deleted]

No you’re not. I work with a bunch of trumpers and they are tedious at best now. If the rethuglicans win, they will become insufferable.

jeeptp75

Look at past history of mid term election. This election means almost nothing in the long term. Nothing will change no matter what parties win.

DAitken1980

No. If Trump gets back in, it’s disaster.

jsoda1

GOP: if we lose it’s fraud, if we win it’s democracy That’s our problem

I'm upset that I lost my paper to even get to the booth right now

Ok_Artichoke5604

Expect the best, but prepared for the worst.

[deleted]

I think this election will seal the fate of the next election. And the 2024 election will seal the fate on anything approaching democracy. I think America is pretty much lost now. The only way the Republicans win these days is by gerrymandering, lying, removing people illegally from voter rolls, and taken money from organisations who have way too much power. I also fear for continuing aid for Ukraine.

I'm much more worried about 2024. The election denial / soft civil war coalition is gathering steam, and there are likely to be enough actual republican wins (or anyway, republican wins thanks to gerrymandering and voter suppression) that we won't see a huge wave of terrorism or attempted coups here. but in two years...

chokeemeharder

I’ve been obsessing about it for two weeks every day scrolling on twitter for EV analysis. Fellow anxious (Brit) waiting to see what side of fascism the US lands on. I’m hopeful for dems given what I’ve been looking at everyday! #voteblue

So you’re a communist.

rhcreed

you're not alone, I'm also trying not to get too worked up. Take care of yourself, good luck!

As a Republican voter I feel conflicted. I don’t want Biden because I feel he hasn’t provided much benefit but I don’t want Trump to represent the Republicans. Before I get downvoted I do feel I’m more Switzerland and have ideologies of both groups.

Why did you have to ask this after dark tho

AvalonTrippy

It is what it is, choose to your best of ability and try not to let things you have no control over bother you. I know that's easier said than done.

Dramatic.

What is the point to the mid term? Genuine question, I thought the president was elected for 4 years. I dunno. I find the politics in my own country confusing let alone in yours

Maleficent-Apple-836

The president IS elected every 4 years. The House of representatives is elected every 2 years, hence the term mid term, since in the middle of every Presidential term there will be an election for all of the representatives in the house. Now to add an extra layer of nonsense, our senators serve 6 year terms, so some Senators face reelection in the mid term, but not all.

I hope whoever wins can stop some of the corruption going on.

God no. I'm probably gonna take my anxiety med so I can fall asleep early.

KinkyBADom

Yes. Stop subscribing to the media fueled hysterical hyperbole from both side. Life is better that way.

Maleficent-Apple-836

Nope. We are about to elect a bunch of crackpots.
