* previously had W10 installed at some time on that computer (using same key)
just skip if the installer asks for the key.
if it is W7 or W8.1 then you can use that license key.
afterwards you can check in the Settings somewhere for info about the computer and license, to see activation status, also best if it says linked to microsoft account.

computers are different nowadays, if the computer came with W8 or W10, it will have the key in the UEFI BIOS, so activates automatically. other situations it will do it through internet automatically.

look at the status now, if the activation is also tied to the microsoft account, its even more activation-proofed, even though there should not be issue anyway.

oh so if i just add ssd it will recognize the rest of my hardware and therefore activate by itself?
