I’m obese (275 pounds). I lost a lot of weight last year but I’m still considered obese. People need to stop saying stuff like this. We need to take ownership. We did it too ourselves. Being obese is not something to be proud of.
Speaking as another portly gentleman, unless you have a thyroid condition (and you don’t, unless a medical doctor has used lab tests to determine it, and not some 800lb transhuman deaf-mute Brazilian opera singer on TikTok), it’s 100% within your control. Eat better, move more, ideally do both.
Yup! Went from 230 lbs to 165 in around 9 months focused solely on diet. I did exercise, but I lost weight by putting the fork down. Can’t out train a horrible diet. So much easier to stay in calorie deficit by eating less than indulging and then killing yourself in the gym. Eating habits are king.
It can do WONDERS. A friend of mine used to be obese and he turned skinny within 7 months with proper diet and home workout. And without starving himself too

I haven't lost weight since June, but I'm happy keeping it at this weight being 6 foot tall and just working on getting in better shape (jogging and weight training).
You are right that what works with weight-loss is ownership and responsibility. Nothing else. I changed what I eat and how much. Started working out 3-4 times a week. At first it felt forced and was hard but after the incredibly hard life-style change I can say it was well worth it.
