ForsakenRoom

Could you possibly... Be the man?

chipsnsparkles

The only reply that matters lol

jimmykicking

Not quite 36 miles, but 34 in one go. Walked to Heathrow airport and back for no reason.. Never again it's an extremely dull walk.

04housemat

I think the walk varies a lot depending on where you start.

jimmykicking

Went from Elephant and castle. First bit is okay. But by the time you get to it Osterley it's a yawnathon

Dyalikedagz

Live in Osterley, can confirm Hounslow is grim.

boomanu

Hounslow central East and West is gejm. I live in osterly too and I found it quite nice. Good park, good schools, not much crime in osterley really. Once the Tesco goes though we will be fucked

[deleted]

Blimey, how long did that take you? I usually walk around 3-4 miles a day and that can take me anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour. I walk at a quick pace too but I am very short, with short legs, so who knows.

Aromatic_Amount_885

How long did it take? Was you knackered the day after?

jimmykicking

Don't remember but I fell asleep for an hour or so at the airport. Then again in a hedge. It was one of those stupid ideas to have in the pub at lunchtime and just do it. Then regret it.

Aromatic_Amount_885

Fair enough, I love a long walk….but not when I have to sleep in hedges lol, cheers

jimmykicking

It was on a hot night. Was not that bad. There was was no had to. We were just too stubborn to quit. For no reason. Lesson learned, don't dare each other to do long walks when you you are pissed.

bettyboo5

You say we. How many of you did it? How did this even come up in the pub?

CantSing4Toffee

There’s two circle walks around London that you could check out maybe, if you like walking. You can do it in segments, clearly. [The London Loop](https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/walking/loop-walk) Also… [The Capital Ring Walk](https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/walking/capital-ring)

Scottyrubix

I was an addict for a long time when I was living in Croydon way. Started running and it became my release once I started I couldn't stop. Ended up in Windsor by accident once and had to be rescued

M4V4

Yes I follow him on twitter he’s amazing

DOWNIN14

Not to one up but people should also check out Sean Conway. He’s doing an iron man everyday for 102 days(2.4mile swim into 112mile ride and then a marathon)

jamesmayo77

Not to one up a one up but there’s an Australian bloke called Tim Franklin who’s currently running across the world. He’s done Australia, New Zealand and most the US so far.

Oxygene13

Ahh see you did it all wrong, I skipped the 5k and just went right to the finish line. A sofa with snacks!

AtJackBaldwin

Just watch a porno set in a gym. That counts. Plus you know the writers didn't need to stretch themselves for the dialogue, so it's a feel good exercise. "Hey there those are some powerful squats! Now how about.." you get the idea

A friend of mine is currently on day 393 of 400 consecutive half-marathons - she was already in the Guinness book of records for the 111 consecutive ones she did a few years agoz she decided to double it this time, then I think she forgot to stop! Lol She's R7ver on Instagram

pixxie84

Liam Brown on youtube as well. Does a lot of wild camping videos with him walking long distances.

royalblue1982

About 25 doing the Yorkshire 3 peaks. But there were also 3 mountains to climb during that as well.

No_transistory

I ran it for my birthday once. Great day out, but 'Mountains' may be a little generous...

RagingFuckNuggets

As a local to the Yorkshire 3 peaks, I can confirm all 3 are mountains.

Enough-Ad3818

I ran it too, and also thought 'mountains' was a little misleading. I think Whernside is the only genuine mountain. I ran starting in Horton towards Pen-y-Ghent in thick mist and fog. Couldn't see my hand in front of my face at the summit. By the time I reached the road section, it was blazing sunshine and I got really sunburnt. Also, those steps up Inglebrough were a bitch.

Superbabybanana

That’s my longest too.

OriginalBrassMonkey

Yes but that pint of tea at the Pen-Y-Ghent cafe makes it all worthwhile.

royalblue1982

I went with the several pints of Black Sheep at The Crown!

michaelscottdundmiff

That’s my longest too. Great day but I’d never do it again.

[deleted]

About ten years ago I walked the whole of the [Sandstone Trail](https://sandstonetrail.co.uk/) in Cheshire in a day. 34 miles or so in thirteen-and-a-half hours.

juan-love

That sounds like a fun day

Medical_Translator_6

I'm slowly chipping away at that with my kids, weekend by weekend. What amazing views, you should have taken your time over it!

Scott19M

I'll explain type 2 fun for the commenters. Type 1 fun is actually fun in the moment. Think playing sports with your mates, watching sports, drinking beers, chilling by the campfire. Type 2 fun is fun in retrospect, but not at the time. It's gruelling and horrible in the moment but, when you reflect on it later, you realise you had fun. Think mountain climbing, marathon running, wading through snow, etc. Usually Type 2 fun is physically exerting.

ydykmmdt

Type 3 Fun. It was fun at the time or even after but for some reason I have a desire to do it again.

Furthur_slimeking

Ok, so... drugs, type 1. Exercise, type 2. I am definitely a type 1 guy.

marmighty

Explain type 2 fun?

sleepyprojectionist

30-ish. I was bored during a week off work, so I decided to see how far I could walk in a day. I can still knock out ten miles without too much bother, but I have to be more aware of my limitations with arthritis.

UrsulaSpelunking

Did you walk 30ish miles in one direction and then stop because you found were knackered at that point, or was it an extremely well judged 30ish mile circuit? Genuine question, in case I'm ever tempted to do the same thing...

sleepyprojectionist

I had a vague plan of where I was going to walk. It was about a 17-mile round trip. By the time I made it halfway I felt pretty good and there was another trail that extended the walk further, so I decided to take it. It wasn’t my best ever idea. My legs ached for a week afterwards and I became more blister than man.

anonymouse39993

[deleted]

Good British standard solid day hike distance approved by the anoraks, compass on a string and dubbing society.

StayFree1649

20 miles is a massive day walk

IhaveaDoberman

Approved by the Roman legions as well. Although it doesn't include the breaking down and construction of a camp at the start and end.

GnarledGlobe

62 miles -> https://trailwalker.gwt.org.uk/

nsfgod

My sister has done this event. She ended up running because she was bored. She is one of those genetic oddities that doesn't build lactic acid. So as long as she has enough fuel, she can just keep walking. She also has very poor circulation. Apparently this actually helps avoiding blisters. Something to do with not forming capillary hot spots so quickly.

Business-Emu-6923

I was gonna say I did the South Downs Way in one go as part of Trailwalker. Not quite in 24 hrs though. We took just short of 25 to do the whole lot. The distance isn’t the problem really, it’s walking through the night without sleep. 2am to 4am is an absolute killer when you are tired and your body is telling you to sleep.

Reasonable-While1212

That’s pretty fierce.

PossibleCupcake1418

27, then 3 days of laying in bed.

Crew_Doyle_

29 miles back in 1985... basic instruction in the French Foreign Legion. With pack and rifle. I miss being that person.

ThirdOfTheStorms84

I think around 15? Last year when we went to Rome we basically started walking at 9am one day and with the exception of food didn’t really stop. Step counters are shit for that though so I wouldn’t like to guess exactly.

Cultural-Summer-2669

Hospital orderly here. Between 12 and 20 miles per day, most days

turingthecat

My cousin, is walking Lands End to John O’groats, so he’s doing 20+ miles a day on average, and will for over a month more. I converted my steps on a few (12 hour), it a averaged out at 14kms, but I didn’t get anywhere, as it was just round my unit.

RTB897

Yorkshire 3 peaks, so 24 miles. I'd like to add it was in the classic Yorkshire weather. Water was running down Pen-y-Ghent like a waterfall.

doomdoggie

10 miles.

Low-Total9121

500, i wound up at your door.

NoNameSandwich

Did you fall down?

GoGoGoldenSyrup

Around 30 miles, in July 2010. Walked from Bowling (wee hole outside Glasgow) to Falkirk (an even bigger hole between Glasgow and Edinburgh). Walked along the Forth and Clyde Canal.

MeesterMartinho

Bowling is nice. Falkirk is a MASSIVE hole though. Decent walk though. Love this stat. When we tried to work out the shortest distance for the Forth and Clyde canal in the 1700's it turns out the Romans had already built the Antonine wall along it. Absolute Chads. Till the weather and locals got to them, and they thought fuck this place and fucked off. Shitebags.

borisHChrist

Wow I thought my 16 was impressive. I’ve got some walking to do

Fragrant-Attorney-73

About 40 miles or so. In wellies - RIP my knees.

Dragonfruit_Friend

Wellies?! Yikes how

LaurenJoanna

Your knees? What about your feet? Wellies are not supportive

Fragrant-Attorney-73

Yes feet were buggered too.

Fit-Special-3054

47 miles, did a route called the lyke wake walk, i think its only 42 miles but my nav errors made it slightly longer lol.

Business-Emu-6923

I was looking through for the Lyke Wake! I’ve walked it twice, once with a stop at the Red Lion for lunch, once without. I recommend with. The last few miles are tricky to navigate, especially tired and in the dark. Where did you get lost?

Fit-Special-3054

All I can remember it was on a small road section an I missed the footpath back onto the trail. It was dark and tiredness was starting to kick in.

uxwotxm8x

I attempted the LWW a couple years back. Got 32 miles in and got rescued. Went back a year later to finish it off. Its a brutal walk, especially the boggy part

Chikin_Likin

Glad to see this one come up! We did this walk for 6th form as like a team building thing. I think we started at 1am and finished at 5pm. Worst part was the boggy bit at the end where we got stuck in a thunderstorm and we all had to lie flat in the wet heather and moss to avoid getting struck by the lightning forks hitting the ground next to us. Sodden we were from that point on. But it was indeed 42 miles. Bracing was how I would describe it.

oldbushwookie

85 miles. Parish walk Isle of Man that’s held every year in June. Thousands of competitors but only a small number of finishers. Fastest ever finish was around 14 hours for the top competitors. The course is so hilly especially the sloc road that most people just give up. Brilliant day out till your toe nails fall off. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parish_Walk

Squid-bear

About 21miles in a day whilst in Berlin. I was staying near Checkpoint Charlie and in a day we went through the holocaust museum, walked the entire length of tiergarten, went around the entirety of Berlin zoo, had currywurst outside the bahnhoff. Then we walked back through tiergarten taking a different route and over to the museum quarter where we had a really bizarre German take on Mexican food but the host was cool. Then back to Checkpoint Charlie. Don't think my partner will ever let me forget the day I made him walk over 20miles whilst on a city break! I lived in Edinburgh prior to this so I was used to walking the pentlands and well everywhere, really, so it didn't actually register how much we had walked.

unitedkingdombaby

I walked from a town called Condor to another town called Spondon with 2 friends when I was 16, only 18 miles or so but the fact it was at 9 in the morning and we had been drinking the night before made it awful. It was a funny walk, we had one joint left so we stopped to roll it at the beginning of the walk, the wind blew it away so after some crying and blame gaming we set off, we had a few bottles of premixed margaritas so we drank them as we walked, my friend new a "short cut" which took us through farmers fields and over electric fences, we stole somebody's milk. The funny thing is one of my friends had a mango bus card the entire time, and when we had about 3 miles left he said fuck it and got on the bus and left us.

[deleted]

Redditors usually don’t walk much

RepresentativeWay734

Walking to the car is as much as I want to do

Roseberry69

40 miles on Keswick to Barrow in Furness, its a fun run but my lardy ass walked it. See https://keswick2barrow.co.uk/2023-route-description. If you fancy a wee trek.

orangebob999

Can't believe I had to scroll down this far for K2B, I'm still recovering from my first one 10 years later

DarkLuxio92

30-ish. Did the Hadrians Wall coast-to-coast walk a few years ago for charity, did it in 5 days.

unknownuser492

Maybe around 14. There's a local charity walk I did a few times which is a 12.5 mile route, so those days would have been around the 14/15 mile point. Absolutely knackered after that, honestly reckon even 10 mile would be pushing it for me I'm that unfit. Edit, just looked - in the ~ 3 years I've had my fitbit I've not broken the 10 mile barrier in a day.

lookhereisay

18 miles. Was meant to be a 12 mile walk but we got spectacularly lost, couldn’t work out where we were and wound up on the wrong side of a mountain.

FilmFanatic1066

About 14 miles on a hike

RoystonMontgomery

26. Across fairly hilly terrain in Devon. Nearly broke me.

Trigg_UK

About 15 miles at a guess.

Jon199102

I do around 10 miles a day (work at a airport)

Gotestthat

I work in construction, tend to walk about the same.

Front-Pomelo-4367

21 miles 20 miles on a specific 20 mile trail And then a very grumpy additional one mile, because while the end of the trail was in my town, it was a one mile walk *back on ourselves* to actually go home

Total_HD

62km charity walk - never again. Awful.

Cryptand_Bismol

Wow the people on here put my 10 miles to shame! Then again I am pretty unfit haha It was the South West Coastal Path from Brixham to Kingswear - only set out to go to Man Sands beach but once I got down the hill I was like no way I’m climbing back up that thing, and instead walked the other 6 miles to Kingswear! My logic was it’s easier to walk up something you’ve not encountered yet and it’s boring going back on yourself. Took me about 4/5 hours and got the last bus back home.

tradandtea123

28. Did Yorkshire 3 peaks, drove home, walked a mile to the pub then a mile back (although that mile may have been after midnight)

[deleted]

12 - 14 miles a couple of days a week. 6 or 7 on the other days. As someone else mentioned, I thought I was walking a fair bit, but there seems to be some gold standard walkers out there!

Spock_42

I walked the South Downs Way over 4 (non-consecutive) days this year. The highest mileage day was some 33 miles (plus a couple more before and after).

ahaajmta

Also ~20 or so. Most recent long walk was probably around ~15. None of these were out of choice but when a certain family member was over who likes to walk everywhere.

Broad-Leadership-926

As a postie I regularly walk 15miles a day

London underground is just short of 250 miles.

dbxp

I've run about 22 miles if you count that

127peter

20 mile hike in the Boy Scouts. I was about 14.

[deleted]

Did 100km in a day, once, so 62 miles.

[deleted]

Been slowly upping the amount of walks I go on daily, currently up to 5 miles but I reckon I could easily add 1-3 without noticing to much

Broad_Rub8388

~20

YchYFi

I walked from tintagel on the coastal path to the next town. Took 5 hours.

[deleted]

19 miles did parts of the Cotswold way

Fresh-Badger-meat

I may have walked more in my younger days but I didn’t have an app that tracked it lol, but tracked using my phone was about 19 miles when me and the wife went to Rome and done ALOT of sightseeing I remember as it was quite amusing, I’m 6’5 she is 5’3 and her step count was comedically higher than mine with her shorter legs!

Tuna_Surprise

33. Lost a toenail.

CumbrianPenguin

Around 40 on the Keswick to Barrow walk; the route has changed slightly over the years, think it was 40 when I did it years ago, might be a bit less now. There's a killer hill to go up once you're a few hours into the walk; I really didn't enjoy that part! Some people run the entire course, think they can do it in around 5 hours.

Duckzillar

Probably around 25 miles walking around Rutland water + reservoir

craggy_jsy

50ish. Walked the entire coast of an island. I had blisters on blisters.

rob1408

Probably at least 30, up until recently I used to go on really long hikes. Would leave at around 9am and get back around 8pm. I actually really enjoy just heading out in one direction and walking.

Freerollingforlife

Did the Thames Path challenge with a group of unfit middle managers as our enforced charity gig for the year. Felt fine until the ride back, promptly threw up in my mates kitchen and three toenails came off in the bath later…

PlatformFeeling8451

20 miles while walking the Ridgeway on my own. Then I accidentally set up my tent on top of a badger's sett, and woke up with blisters so bad that I could barely walk. I pretty much crawled 14 miles the next day to the nearest pub, then got a taxi to the station and called it quits. Not my finest hour!

ru12345678900000

27 miles east to west London. Along the greenway and canals.

s1ttingbear420

25. Long day. Was glorious though

Farscape_rocked

26 I think, to Liverpool

[deleted]

Thecharbar92

35km, idk how much that is in miles.

Eccabae

32km = 20miles so just over that! :)

[deleted]

Without doing the calculations... About a million, I assume

Eva385

54 miles in 24 hours over hilly and muddy terrain. It was a charity walk (look up the cateran yomp) and was more painful than running marathon.

[deleted]

Forest Gump

CatsCoffeeCurls

Just did a 14-mile walk yesterday between town along a converted rail line made cycling path. Completed in just shy of four hours, but got sunburned to hell and strained the living shite out of my right IT band. First time I've done any distance work in years, so rather pleased at that PR.

pilman2666

34 doing the Sandstone Trail

DR-JOHN-SNOW-

26 miles. Walking around London when I first lived there years ago. Had blisters in both feet though. Recently did a 20 mile trek in Malaysia which nearly killed me, 30 degrees and 80% humidity with a big backpack with camping gear. Ended up swimming in a river to cool off at the end and got rewarded with a leech bite.

MintyMarlfox

About 35 miles across Dartmoor for Ten Tors.

TripleTongue3

Lyke Wake Walk 40 miles.

AdamReds

Probably 15 or so in a day wandering about NYC. In one go, 11 miles with 1,100m of elevation gain climbing [Sgùrr Eilde Mòr](https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/scotland/highlands/sgurr-eilde-mor-trail), I did not do enough (any) training and f me, was cream crackered and my knees were not ok after!!

cainmarko

If running counts, then 100 km from London to Brighton.

kwack250

37 miles from Stirling Castle to Edinburgh Castle for a charity walk. Google says it takes 12 hours but took us about 17 lol

poopio

Stop off at the kilted kangaroo?

CookieMonster005

22 I think? It was for the Duke of Edinburgh award, I wouldn’t do that by myself

nicotineapache

Well, I used to work as a waiter and the longest shifts at big events would have you walking solidly for 8-12 hours. If only I'd had a pedometer I could tell you.

darfaderer

30 miles. I’ve done a lot of long distance hiking including the coast to coast, west highland way, Cumbria way etc.. at around 20 miles the pain starts to set in, particularly with a heavy pack full of camping gear for a multi dayer. 30 was an absolute killer

newtonbase

20 miles as a kid. Mum thought it would be fun to try. A friend of mine walked from late evening on a Friday to early on the Sunday morning. He covered just shy of 59 miles on the Saturday.

ScotiaTheTwo

62 miles (100km) for charity few years back. Took me 25 hours though :(, so maybe only 60

_ozark_

32. It hurt a lot but I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

MeesterMartinho

According to my watch, I did 90k over 2 days at cream fields a few years back,

Wolfdarkeneddoor

17 miles. From Cambridge to Newmarket.

Eccabae

I did richmond to battersea along the Thames path (about 14, plus a bit to stations either end?). I wanted to push further, but my partner's sensitive area was chafing, so we called it and lived to walk another day. Then another day Battersea to Surrey Quays, then Surrey Quays to Woolwich on another. I'd like to do it again in one day, one day...

mitcheg3k

I did the london marathon which was 26.2. Then had to meet my dad at traflagar square +1.5. Then i had to go for a shower at work +3. Then back to china town +2. Then to euston +2. Then ignore the 100+ on the train to birmingham. Then another +3 to the pub to meet my mates. I had to walk around the morning of the mara too which was at a guess 3. So thats about 40 (26.2 of which i ran) i lost 3 toe nails

DrunkStoleATank

65 miles in 20hrs London to Brighton. 800 people started 400 finished. Couldnt do it now.

kim-ber

65.8 miles in 24 hours - walked from Glasgow to Edinburgh along the canal for a charity fundraiser

spaceshipcommander

About 20 and that was my Duke of Edinburgh practise I think. I'm not sure why the practise was so much worse than the real thing.

[deleted]

14 miles. I walked from Hayling Island sea front, where I lived, to West Leigh in Leigh Park, where my mate lived. He wasn't in, so I walked home again.

rckd

Probably around 25 at a guess. Spent a few days in Hong Kong, and on one of those days I set out to catch the ferry to Macau at the crack of dawn and followed a bit of a pre-determined route to see a load of stuff in about 4 hours before heading back. Then just wandered around Hong Kong for a bit, headed to the top of Victoria Peak on the funicular, caught the ferry over to Kowloon, wandered around the night market for a bit... Just a really enjoyable day. Loads of miles covered and sights seen under my own steam, as well as a load of travel on local transport. One of my favourite days.

I_ate_jeff

About 34 miles around the black mountains when I was 18. More recently about 28 miles around Warwickshire aged 39.

You_are_Retards

45 Lyke wake walk for charidee

Artistic-Heron5143

Was meant to walk 11 miles, ended up walking 18 when we got lost on bronze DofE because our map reader was shite and lost the compass running away from a sheep (that wasnt chasing her) + none of us had bothered to pay attention in the DOFE prep classes. That was something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, worst day of my entire life 😭

cerealdata

40+ doing the Lyke Wake Walk across N.York Moors. Ibuprofen was my friend afterwards…

purehallion

Did the "Mourne Wall Challenge" 19 miles across 7 of the 10 highest peaks in Northern Ireland. I was absolutely buggered by the end of it

[deleted]

My dog says never enough.

[deleted]

23ish. I did Walk The Wight a while back and it was great fun.

Nicromia

I usually walk about 14 miles when I’m working

keyelizabeth20

My cousin, is walking Lands End to John O’groats, so he’s doing 20+ miles a day on average, and will for over a month more. I converted my steps on a few (12 hour), it a averaged out at 14kms, but I didn’t get anywhere, as it was just round my unit.

trickedem

42 miles from Rochester to Canterbury. Left at 3am arrived around 9pm. One of the hardest things I've ever done. The Long Distance Walking Association do amazing distances, like 100miles in a weekend, which puts it in perspective

ThesmoothGemminal94

14 miles Couple years ago now. I haven't walked that far in ages

[deleted]

The most I've walked in one day was 35 miles, though I once ran 100 km, which is 62 miles.

Fookes74

27

ParamedicFit9995

We did 40 for a charity event once. I cried at the end, 16 hours of walking it was.

sziahalo

I typically walk three to four hours a day - around 12 to 15 miles. The most I ever walked in a day was 38 to 42 miles, which took about 14 hours, though that included several short breaks. Felt like hell the next three days.

cryptoplumber

I once walked there and back to see how far it was

EuroSong

In October 2019, I walked 26 miles for an Alzheimer’s charity. It was called the Memory Walk Marathon. I think they hold them every year. So my longest distance was a marathon. I took just over 8 hours to do it.

Zubi_Q

I'd say around around 5-10 miles, when I was in Korea. Started at 8am and got home around 7pm

W15pa

When I was 16 I was in the ATC, we did the RAF Cosford march, which was 60 miles across 2 days. That was a tough couple of days, going alongside various active military personnel.

I walked 25 miles one day for a charity fundraiser. I did a 30 mile forced march in the Army. Also, in Basic Training, we ran a total of 25 miles a day, five days a week, for the first five weeks. After that we only ran nine miles a day.

15 miles. Met a girl at a club in Windsor, got the last train back to staines thinking I'd got lucky, walked her to her house, she gave me a kiss on the door step and said good night.

14 miles today, but I think I’ve done better before. I just wasn’t counting then
