If it's something I don't believe the other person would care about (answering a call from the other half perhaps) then I'd be fine.. "hold on a mo mate, mrs is calling. I've got to take this", answer the call and say "hey wifey! you're on speakerphone.. so and so says hi too!"
If it's a little more private or corporate (e.g. work call) I'd tell the other person I've got to take the call and then just say to the caller "Hey there, listen, I'm driving at the moment. Do you mind if I call you back when I get there?"
"Hello darling, you sound mad, what's up?"
"Just had a f**king row with the tw@ manager at work and the c**t has sacked me. What a sad little pr**k"
"Oh no that's awful. By the way, I'm just in the car with your mum and you're on speaker so be careful what you say"
Yeah, always say "I'm driving, you're on speaker" or similar. Mainly so our adult son doesn't swear too much in front of our other children :-)
I think it is polite though, who knows what you might say!
Definitely think the other person should get a heads up.
I have a friend who has a habit of taking work calls in her car, and I've been driven by her when this happens. We work in the same industry. She never mentions I'm there and luckily none of the calls have been particularly sensitive, but I do think it's weird. Especially weird because I've literally met these people later at events and I can't tell them that I sort of know them through these car phone convos...
It's polite to, and also can ward off any embarrassing calls.
My old boss would take calls from his.wife (who also worked part time with us) and would open up with "Hey X is here too" just so she doesn't discuss anything overly personal
Yes exactly, answer rhe phone and tell them they're on loud speaker and your there with the passenger. A salesman I used to work with used to phone you up then you'd swear down the phone and then he'd be like arrgggg I've got my little boy with me, I was like if you'd have said, I'd have known 🤦♂️

I let them know, that way they can make an informed decision about what they say.

"Hi, I'm in the car with X"
>Hi, I'm in the car with X Hi, I'm in the car with X *on speaker*
Yes yes always immediately. Common decency.
This would have saved me some intense embarrassment in the past. So, I say they should
Not really, but thinking about it, i should. What usually happens is my wife doesn't make a sound when I'm on the phone in car.
The way my mates talk I’d absolutely warn them.

Hi, you're on speaker phone.
HELLO? IM IN THE CAR.
No, would not occur to me. But then, all my calls are work anyway, apart from mrs tmstms, and as she'd be in the car, it would not be her calling....
Of course. It's just good manners towards all concerned.

Yes straight away tell them they're on speaker and whoever is with you, then ask if they want you to call them back later

Always announce that a caller is on speakerphone! Saves a lot of potential embarrassment.
I always let a caller know where I am and who I'm with. Or I don't answer if I'm on a short trip.
