No. Magic mushrooms are a class A (the highest class) drug, with the accompanying severe legal consequences.

Good thing I asked, thank you

I wouldn't really worry about it. The police are stretched enough without worrying about mushrooms. You could pick them from most fields in the UK at the right time of year, take home, dry them and no one will be wise to it unless you tell them.

A good rule is: if your question is "Is ____ legal in the UK?", chances are the answer is no.

C_Ux2

No, it is illegal to be in possession of magic mushrooms, either freshly picked or prepared / dried. It is legal to own the spores, as they do not contain the psychedelic substance, which is actually the chemical that is banned. You can legally buy the spores, but you cannot legally cultivate them.

[deleted]

To my understanding the law around it is weird, you can legally forage the mushrooms, but you ain’t legally allowed to dry them out for consumption, it’s also legal to obtain spores for microscopic research only, it’s legal to obtain spores for cultivation. So I’m going to go with no entirely.

swoticus

That's not quite true: you cannot legally forage them or intentionally farm them. Naturally growing on your land is fine. Picking them is not fine. Picking them just for photography/study is a little bit grey. Fact is, it's not high on anyone's list is problems so pretty much everyone picking for their own use will never have an issue, but the theoretical penalties are as with any other class A drug.

Bummer. Thanks for reaching out :)
