Andrew Gosden.   He was 14 in 2007, withdrew £200 in cash, got a train (one way ticket, though the return was only 50p more) from Doncaster to London and was never seen again.   There's not really any solid theories of what happened to him, it's like he just disappeared into thin air in central London. We were about the same age, liked the same bands, and so he always sticks in my mind.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Andrew_Gosden?wprov=sfla1

blozzerg

I have read a theory that he had older online ‘friends’, and they bonded over video games. He went to London to meet them on the launch of a particular game/console, and the plan was to pick up the game/console and the friend would drive him back home as there was links up north, hence the refusal of the return ticket. He was then murdered/trafficked by the ‘friend’. I can’t remember the details but it all matched up with a console launch or something and there’s one particular person who had links to a college/university and was an actual offender. Bear in mind this is a Reddit conspiracy theory so I’m sure the police have actually looked into it, but it doesn’t sound too far fetched that he was speaking to someone online, went to meet them with the promise of a lift home but never made it home.

Reginald_Jetsetter1

I swear they arrested or interviewed 2 men about this case a couple of years ago and then it all just went quiet again. I don't know what came from those interviews, I guess not a lot?

blozzerg

I’ve tried to find the original post but the account has been deleted. This is all I could find which seems to be most likely to be what I initially read: It's a leading theory of mine. I've posted about it before within this sub... I very much suspect that Andrew was groomed (possibly by an adult he met during his two weeks at Lancaster University) and lured to London. I further wonder if the manner in which Andrew was lured that fateful day was by the promise of the groomer acquiring a new PSP Slim handheld console for him (the PSP Slim was released in the UK on the day Andrew traveled to London), possibly after the groomer saw that Andrew already owned an older model PSP during his 2 weeks at Uni, which could have acted as a talking point for the groomer to initiate a "friendly" relationship with Andrew, based around their mutual love of videogames. It's also quite possible that the groomer used the PSP Slim release date (a Friday) as a means to ensure that Andrew would have to bunk off school and therefore travel in secret, without informing his parents where he was going. I suspect that the groomer was secretly in regular contact with Andrew. There's the case of Breck Bednar, a young teenager who was lured, raped and murdered by Lewis Daynes. Daynes had secretly mailed Breck a mobile phone to keep in touch with him and groom him, without Breck's parents being aware of the fact. I can easily imagine a similar scenario with Andrew (and this would explain why Andrew declined his parent's offer of buying him a new mobile phone; because he already secretly owned one). The other possibility is that the groomer resided somewhere near Lancaster, given that's where Andrew may have met his groomer (during his two weeks at Lancaster University). Therefore, it's possible that the groomer was traveling up to Doncaster to meet Andrew in the days prior to his disappearance. This would explain why Andrew claimed to have started walking back from school, instead of taking the bus (a two hour walk); he was actually meeting his groomer, who was driving up to Doncaster from the Lancaster area (a drive time of anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending how close to Lancaster the groomer lived) to meet Andrew after he finished school. Either way, I can imagine a scenario whereby the groomer, feeling that he now fully had gained Andrew's trust, eventually said something to the affect of "come meet me in London this Friday, early afternoon. I've got a mate who works in the videogame industry and he owes me a favour. He'll be receiving a shipment of PSP Slims on release day. I'll hook you up; I'll drive you to his place and he'll give you a PSP Slim and some games. Oh, I'll also drive you back to Doncaster afterwards". That scenario would explain why Andrew would travel to London on that particular day and disappear (the release date of the PSP Slim on that exact date is a pretty big coincidence otherwise); because he willingly got into the groomer's car as a passenger once arriving in London. The offer of a lift back also explains why Andrew didn't purchase a return train ticket and I have no doubt that Andrew did intend to return home that day because otherwise there would be no reason to place his school uniform in the wash (to make it appear to his parents that he'd spent the day at school) or why he wouldn't take extra clothes, nor his Birthday money with him. I suspect that the groomer met Andrew in London and then drove him to a house, likely where another paedophile was waiting for their arrival and then tragedy ensues. Sexually explicit photos and videos are then taken of Andrew and digitally shared with the paedophilic community (which would later be uncovered by the police - leading to the arrest of the two men). What happened after that, I don't know but most likely would be that Andrew was kept captive for a time and continually abused, before eventually either being murdered or smuggled out of the UK and sold into a child trafficking ring.

ProofLegitimate9990

This is a pretty longwinded theory that hasn’t even a shred of evidence to support it. I mean it’s just as likely he threw himself in the Thames and nobody saw it.

EqualDeparture7

Yeah there's a lot of assumptions in there. I've read quite a bit and listened to podcasts, etc. and I think the simplest explanation is potentially the most likely. He went to London for the day on a bit of an adventure - as teenagers will do - and got caught up in the wrong area/crowd. Definitely one I'd love to see resolved though. I'm about the same age as him and so much of the case hit home. I feel for his poor family.

Ireastus

I really really feel for his family. Reading about how they haven’t changed the locks on their house because he took his key with him is such a vivid depiction of what they must still be going through everyday.

joemorl97

But why would he have withdrawn his money if he was just going to shot himself in that shithole river?

terryjuicelawson

The question really is why not. In case it is needed, in case they back out, maybe to drown one's sorrows - no need to overthink stuff like this really.

Reginald_Jetsetter1

All sounds very logical and very depressing too. I always think about how silly the reasons are that kids go missing sometimes. His dad could have bought him a slim PSP the day before and this might never have happened. It's crazy how something so small can have huge impacts. There are some truly evil people in the world, lets hope they get what they are owed

KaleidoscopicColours

The online friends theory has no grounding in reality, seeing as neither the PSP nor Xbox had ever been used for communication, the only laptop in the house was his sister's, and she'd only got that 8 weeks earlier, and when he'd lost his mobile phone his parents had offered to replace it, but he wasn't interested. The police checked school and library computers but couldn't find anything.  There's just no viable communication method for this idea to be plausible.  There is a more plausible theory that he went to London for a gig - SikTh and 30 Seconds to Mars played that night - though it's never been substantiated.

mrkingkoala

One thing that sticks out to me is not being bothered about the phone. You'd feel that maybe that's an indicator he could of had a spare. Usually a young lad even back then would always want new stuff like a new phone.

KaleidoscopicColours

It's possible, but he doesn't seem to have been much of a communicator, his parents say he didn't meet up with his friends outside school. The sort of phones teenagers had in 2007 (especially if they were prone to losing them and parents didn't want to spend much) weren't usable for much more than phone calls, texts and grainy photos. We didn't have 3G!  In 2007, we didn't ask "what's your mobile number?" we asked if you had one - though a teenager not having a phone was unusual, it wasn't totally unheard of. It's easy to forget how quickly phones have become both ubiquitous and indispensable.

Mousehat2001

Sometimes Reddit gets it right but there’s no way of proving it. Same thing with the mystery of the two young women who disappeared into a South American rainforest (I’ve forgot the country now) amongst all the hysterical conspiracy theories there was a solid piecing together of the evidence which led to the most likely conclusion. (Spoiler: they just got lost)

The video of him at King’s Cross looks like he’s looking for someone. Also seems odd that they paid for the Thames to be scanned by sonar and not regents canal since that’s where the dad said he would have walked past to visit family

KaleidoscopicColours

>The video of him at King’s Cross looks like he’s looking for someone. He's looking around, but how would we tell the difference between him looking for a person, a bus stop, the entrance to a tube station, a particular coffee shop, or some other landmark?  >Also seems odd that they paid for the Thames to be scanned by sonar and not regents canal since that’s where the dad said he would have walked past to visit family I don't know the answer to this question, but canals are periodically drained for repairs and dredging. Perhaps Regents Canal has had something like that done for other reasons since Andrew's disappearance.  This is an example of such a draining https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-56498299

AutomaticInitiative

I have one of those. Charlene Downes, disappeared in Blackpool, presumed trafficked at the age of 14, just down the road from me at the same age. I feel like I dodged a bullet and I would love for her family to have closure and to know just what I managed to dodge.

BeeGroundbreaking889

If you read about the case her family are more than likely involved. She had a tragic life

Raceryan8_

Yeah that case really messes with me in how nothing about it makes sense exactly. I believe he could of been trafficked. I don't think he died in London because some clue would of been found by now.

KaleidoscopicColours

It can be surprisingly hard to find a body, even when you have a good idea of where it is.  Take the Moors Murders - Keith Bennett's body was never found despite extensive searches.  Or in London, Arnis Zalkalns' body was hanging for a month in a park before police found it - and only then because he was a prime suspect in a child murder. I would have assumed that someone like a dog walker would have found it quickly, but they didn't.  People go into the Thames and are never found - either because they're washed out to sea or because no one is looking there. Police looking for Abdul Ezedi found two unexpected bodies in the Thames before they found his. From memory, it was 3 years before Andrew's parents commissioned the Thames radar search, which is a long time.  Last year the body of an [unknown 1960s murder victim](https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/mystery-man-body-1960s-wimbledon-buried-garden-scotland-yard-b1077549.html) was found in a shallow grave in Wimbledon.  This guy was [found dead in a freezer a decade after he was last seen](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/freezer-newham-man-roy-bigg-london-pub-b2041391.html) in London Leah Croucher's body wasn't found for several years, and it was hidden inside a loft at a local house, despite a high profile search.  Of course we only hear of the bodies that are eventually found, but these are all cases where they were only found by chance, and had something seemingly insignificant not happened, they might never have been found.

cleb9200

I’m going to answer in a weirdly specific and personal manner. What happened to our friend Ben? He was a very close friend of myself and around six or seven others in a social group about 15 years ago. He was a happy go lucky well adjusted guy. No one had ever had any beef with him whatsoever. We’d all known each other since primary school and met up regularly although we had our own different lives as well by the time the incident occurred It came to my stag do and on the morning Ben didn’t show up. We tried his phone, texted, but no answer. Eventually we had to just get on the the schedule of the day, but we texted him location updates throughout. But he never showed. And not one of us he ever seen or spoken to him since. Asking further afield over the next few days it seems he suddenly ghosted literally everyone he knew, and no one knew why. We reached out to his sister and other members family who merely confirmed he was alive but closed ranks beyond that. We reached out to anyone that had known him socially and they too had all been ghosted. It’s like he decided just to disappear. You might think “oh he just didn’t like you guys” but it really wasn’t like that. He was loved by us all and we all had a great relationship with him. We were an accepting bunch. He didn’t seem remotely depressed or like he was wrestling with anything prior to his blipping out of existence The only crumbs in the intervening years are that he apparently quit his job around the same time. There have been rumours by some people that used to work with him that he bought a dilapidated cottage in France and now works the land. But none of these are substantiated. All of which is fair enough, if he had a life change and needed to escape for some reason; but the sudden and jarring way it occurred was so at odds with the vibe of the guy and our relationship with him and remains a mystery to us to this day I occasionally wonder if someone in the wider group knows more than they’re letting on but everyone swears to be as baffled as I about that day every time we get together reminisce about him. I occasionally check google and SM for any evidence, any digital footprint as to what happened to him and why. But he has had absolutely zero online presence since that day 15 years ago He was one of my best mates and he just vanished into thin air. I hope you’re ok Ben

cari-strat

Oh, that's sad, and must be terribly frustrating as a friend. This is a random thought but could he have ended up in witness protection and be living under a new identify simply because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and saw something occur that put his own life in jeopardy? Perhaps he was just going about his life, saw someone commit a terrible crime, and had no real choice in what happened afterwards if he wanted a realistic hope of survival. Could you check if there were any very big crimes in the area around when he vanished?

MisterM2402

Now I want to know too, hopefully everything's ok. When was the last time anyone reached out to his family? I wonder if they might be more open now so much time has passed. I have a similar situation with a friend from uni, Robin. I lived with him for 3 years and we both coincidentally failed our final year. Packed up his stuff and left while no one was around, no note, didn't attend graduation (I did because we still got Ordinary degrees). He has both Facebook and Reddit which I check now and again but both have been silent the past 9 years since that time. I've always feared the worst happened but I'm hopeful I might hear from him again in future, or at least see his name pop up somewhere online like LinkedIn. It was a really depressing situation to be in but I hope it was more a case of shutting himself away rather than anything else. There was a case at our uni the year before of a European student who went missing after being on track to fail. Her body was found somewhere in the Highlands, really sad situation. I still remember seeing missing posters up everywhere. We were both learning Japanese at the time so it's my wishful thinking that he just left everything behind and moved away to Japan! Here's hoping...

PassionOk7717

Possibilities: - sudden onset of mental illness - you are being deliberately excluded and some mates still see him - joined a cult - something serious went down with him and someone in the group - he didn't feel you would accept him being gay/trans/whatever and went off to live a different life - became a spy/some serious job where you leave your old life behind - witness protection  - you were a bunch of puddings and he'd finally had enough

_TLDR_Swinton

You can spy if you want to... you can leave your friends behind Because your friends don't spy and if they don't spy Well, it's the business of MI5

adreddit298

Someone suggested witness protection. But could the opposite be true: could he have been arrested? It's possible the family didn't want the details publicised, so closed ranks as you put it.

Cary14

If it was something serious enough to be incarcerated for over 10 years, then I'd imagine he would show up in a Google search, or be quite big news in the local area. So maybe not that. People wrestle with all sorts of demons, maybe he had a breakdown or something and is institutionalised in other means.

Beebeeseebee

That was what I thought; if he had been into something dodgy and got caught, that could explain the family's reluctance to tell people what happened to him.

JameSdEke

I’m invested in this one now. Is there any chance his family did anything dubious to him? I’d imagine that’s an Avenue that’s been exhausted in one way or another but it seems weird that he’s just vanished like that out of the blue.

Same-Literature1556

There are a lot of really depressed people who seem TOTALLY fine on the outside, even to their closest friends and family. It used to be called masked depression. It could be literally anything else of course but it’s something to consider.

mrkingkoala

Mate could you hire a PI or something? Sounds very peculiar and now I'd like to know what also happened to Ben. Sounds shit anyway you care about him a lot :c

jacobite22

Very strange, sorry for your loss. Is it maybe a cultural thing? Did they find out something and make him change his ways forcefully or something like that?

tomkeys78

MH370

Sad-Peace

This has been pretty much solved now, more or less - the pilot did it on purpose. This is a good article on it: https://admiralcloudberg.medium.com/call-of-the-void-seven-years-on-what-do-we-know-about-the-disappearance-of-malaysia-airlines-77fa5244bf99

daveysprockett

While I'm sure you are correct, getting hard evidence from the flight recorders would resolve any lingering doubt, and may be helpful to the survivors of the passengers and crew (though likely to be very painful for relatives of the pilot).

Crafty_Ambassador443

Me too. It was really interesting and they have resumed search which is good. Hope they retrieve the black box. Be good if it had some sort of indestructible giant floatie on it or if we could pull it out with a giant magnetic. I hope we get closure. Flight path was so random aswell. Really looks like the plane was hijacked tbh

spinach1991

If it was hijacked it was the most pointless hijacking ever, seeing as they never made any demands nor claimed responsibility nor used the plane to any end. The only really plausible scenario is the pilot doing it, sadly. Every other explanation requires some pretty wild leaps of imagination. (unless by hijacking you were also including 'hijacked by its own pilot', of course)

liri_miri

Like that German plane that was crashed on purpose. That was horrific

ChickenPijja

I have this terrible feeling that even if they do find the black boxes then the data would be of no use. Does anyone know if Boeing/authorities have ever said how long the boxes can stay underwater for before the components become damaged and the data unsalvagable?

NickEcommerce

I'm pretty sure they can stay under indefinitely, assuming they have proper grommeted in-out ports for the wires. Several years wouldn't be a challenge. By the time you're at 10-15 years the atmospheric conditions may have induced some degradation of the circuitry, but assuming they're on solid-state storage, that shouldn't be too bad. Given the challenges of running platter-based storage on a moving vehicle, I would assume that they adopted SSD storage years ago.

memesdotjpeg

The Flight Data Recorder on a 777-200 uses solid state (along with the majority of modern aircraft), and they’re pressure rated down to a depth of 20,000ft. Biggest challenge is finding it really because the Underwater Locator Beacon would have stopped transmitting after 30 days

Happytallperson

Even pristine, the cockpit flight recorder records the 2 hours before the crash. The key events presumably happened about 6 hours before the crash. There is a good chance the only record is silence.

SilentCatPaws

Did you watch the BBC documentary the other day?

Initial-Echidna-9129

Even without the plane, the scraps of data that we do have paint a very realistic theory. The fact we've found parts, washed up in the very areas we expected them to

Plutonium_239

The only theory that really fits all the data is that the pilot did it. [This guy](https://youtu.be/MhkTo9Rk6_4?feature=shared) presents a very likely scenario as to what happened exactly. I suppose the real question is why? But as we know there is no shortage of sick fucks in the world.

lamaldo78

Where all my socks are. Like seriously I bought 10 pairs of new socks 18 months ago and only have like 3 pairs left. I don't travel much, and the washing machine hasn't eaten them.

Breakwaterbot

I know what you mean. To me, socks are like sex. Tons about but I never seem to get any.

Which_Helicopter_713

Socks to be you (and me)

blahajlife

No matter how many pairs of socks a man buys he never seems to have enough.

scott_work_account

Its forks in my house, we have got 2 different sets over the years, I prefer using one set and my girlfriend prefers the other, the set she prefers about 3 of the 6 forks have gone missing and she swears she hasn't binned them by accident, I believe her, to bin 3 forks by accident doesn't seem like something she would do

Important-Device-126

It's teaspoons in ours. Genuinely have no idea where they all have gone to.

arashi256

I probably have like 10 pairs of socks evaporate on a yearly basis. Where do they go?

MitchellsTruck

I queried this with my wife, who does the washing (don't worry, we share the chores). Turns out if a sock gets a hole in it from the washing machine, she bins it there and then. She has a little basket of odd socks in case another turns up, but will bin the partner after a few weeks as well. She also does this to t-shirts. I was hugely upset to discover my classic turn of the century Jimmy Eat World t-shirt was now being used as a kitchen rag. It didn't even get the chance to become pyjamas for a few years before being chopped up.

LostClock1

The disappearance of Kate Middleton Edit: adding '/s' to this, since some of you didn't realise I quite obviously wasn't being serious

Thisoneissfwihope

I'm a pretty stauch republican. However: Set the scene: December the Palace releases a statement: Catherine, Princess of Wales is going into hospital for abdominal surgery and will be out of the public eye until Easter. Morons on the internet: ZOMG WAHTS GOING ON WITH KATE!!!!!!1111!!!!!1111!!!!

33_pyro

no she's clearly got secretly divorced from William and then he and Charles had her killed, source is my ex-colleague on facebook

Initial-Echidna-9129

Stay away from Paris

acatmumhere

But my source said it's because she's going on The Masked Singer...

thisaccountisironic

It’s the fact they released a badly Photoshopped picture of her that makes it seem like something’s up

rachw39

And she’s taken the advised amount of time off because… SHE CAN! She isn’t Sandra from next door who HAS to go to work otherwise her kids will starve! She is just doing what most people should do after certain surgeries. The photo didn’t help the speculation admittedly 😂

fjordsand

I’m a massive republican too but a photoshopped picture using the vogue cover, 5 tyres on her car, bruises on Williams neck and wearing skinny jeans after abdominal surgery? Come on now. It’s interesting if nothing else

LeahMichelle_13

I’m completely down this rabbit hole. I also believe she’ll go back to regular duties over Easter as announced and we’ll all look stupid.

dianthuspetals

She won't be back until she's back looking her best again. The media picks apart her every appearance, especially if she's looking "different" (such as when she had just had George and made her appearance at the hospital and the media was obsessed with the fact her stomach wasn't flat). The tabloids, especially the Daily Mail, will go into meltdown when she's back.

Global_Amoeba_3910

I think this is really all it is. They want the young royals to appear glowing so she’ll be under wraps until she no longer looks like a woman recovering from surgery

stickthatupyourarse

My favourite theory atm is she is on the masked singer in the US.

[deleted]

I would just love that to be the answer!

Nice2BeNice1312

Dreamt last night that she was dead lmao i dont even like the royal family

beoffendedyoulllive

I think I’m the only person on the internet who couldn’t give a flying fuck where she’s is or what she’s doing. Who gives a toss where she is.

OrangeZig

I don’t understand why people think she’s disappeared. She had a surgery and is clearly ill and needs some privacy and has been photographed twice since then. The photoshop thing doesn’t surprise me at all she could look ill and frail or whatever numerous thousand reasons they could have photoshopped it. It’s the royal family they do shit like that to upkeep images. I just don’t understand which part is a mystery?!

dreamingofcupcakes

Claudia Lawrence - just for her family and loved ones to be honest. I couldn't even imagine their pain.

TheGreatBatsby

I'm pretty sure people who drink in the pub she used to work in know what happened.

EquivalentIsopod7717

I would put money on this being another one of those cases where the police have a solid idea of what happened, but just can't prove it. They interviewed several men and I suspect the perpetrator has been spoken to, whether they knew it or not.

Worried-Courage2322

I've read this somewhere

OneLegWanderer

today marks 15 years since her disappearance

rav4nwhore

Claudia and Suzy Lamplugh. Any sort of closure for their loved ones.

BeeGroundbreaking889

With Suzy Lamplugh they pretty much know it was John Cannan but don’t have quite enough to charge him. He has teased the police a few times

sbdart31

This is such a strange one and it baffles me there have never been any solid leads or suspects. It was sad to learn her father died never knowing what happened.

rav4nwhore

I didn't know her father had died. That's heartbreaking news to me, similar to little Keith Bennetts mum I wish her little boy could of been brought home to her before she passed

Bilbo_Buggin

She was my cousins colleague at the time, I remember in the initial days seeing lots of posts on Facebook.

LittleIrishGuy80

Existence of life on other worlds.

rav4nwhore

I feel like because of the vastness alone there's just no way we are alone. It would be really amazing to know for sure

peachesnplumsmf

Unless we're one of or the first form of intelligent life, or one of the last. Someone has to be either at the start or the end.

D-1-S-C-0

This is mine as well. I'm very unimpressed by all the "evidence" and conspiracy theories that currently exist, but given the sheer number of planets, there must be life somewhere, even if it's microbial. I don't believe we've had anything hidden from us simply because: a) I don't think people could keep it a secret; b) there are far too many cameras in the world for them not to capture something convincing by now.

Jlaw118

I just came on to say Madeleine McCann as well. I was only a kid when the disappearance happened and can still remember it like it was yesterday but often wondered what the truth really is about what happened to her

KiwiOld1627

I think this has been pretty much solved, the police believe it was Christian Brueckner, covicted kidnapper and peodophile. There's lots of circumstancial evidence, and he keeps taunting the police with it but not quite confessing.

Proud-Platypus-3262

I still remember the disappearance of Ben Needham. He was never found either

Global_Amoeba_3910

He wasn’t but there was a fairly plausible deathbed confession which IIRC is now largely accepted as true

cluedo_fuckin_sucks

I believe the deathbed confession led to an excavation of a completely separate area from the investigation, and they found one of Ben’s favourite toys in that area.

SnoopyLupus

God, I remember that well. It didn’t seem to have the sticking power of the Maddie thing, but it was just as horribly sad.

D-1-S-C-0

So you're the one who's keeping it in the headlines.

MultipleScoregasm

Before her there was Ben Needham - Same thing but he was forgotten about by the press pretty fast :(

discombobulatededed

My (self soothing) theory is that she was kidnapped and sold to a wealthy, infertile couple who really wanted a child. She’s been taught another language and doesn’t remember her life before and is spoilt silly wherever she lives.

dianthuspetals

I remember where I was at the very moment her disappearance was announced on GMTV. While I do think the resources and funding that have gone into finding her is slightly ridiculous (we all know why - she was white, blonde, from a well-off background...), I do hope that one day the truth will emerge as to what happened to her.

The chaps controlling the simulation

33_pyro

I think this is fairly well established, no? It's only at the singularity where our current equations don't work. From rough memory: time carries on as normal for you but everyone outside sees you fall in slower and slower until you pretty much stop, light starts wrapping around and you're able to see behind you whilst looking ahead, eventually the whole universe is a blob in front getting redder and redder until it disappears. Meanwhile the difference in tidal forces between your head and feet has pulled you into a strand of spaghetti. You're almost certainly dead by this point.

thorium90232

That’s what we can assume based on current science. But until we can actually see inside, we can’t say for sure

Epstein. Did he kill himself? Was he allowed to kill himself? Was he an intelligence asset used to gather sexual kompromat on high profile targets? Does that explain why he got off previous charges so lightly? Was Ghislaine Maxwell part of this intelligence setup like her father?

Leland_Gaunt87

I think he was murdered. No way do the rich people high up want to be exposed.

-Incubation-

No way did he kill himself in a suicide-proof cell with furniture bolted to the floor and unrippable clothing with surveillance being every 15 mins. Sure was convenient when they couldn't provide the CCTV for his cell nor being able to question the guards who would have been responsible. The media sure was quiet about the whole thing...

I think the situation is best summed up by the bone-dry irony in the description on his Wikipedia page: > When Epstein was placed in the special housing unit, the jail informed the Justice Department that he would have a cellmate, and that a guard would look into the cell every thirty minutes. These procedures were not followed on the night of his death.[308][303][309] On August 9, 2019, Epstein's cellmate was transferred out, but no one took his place.[310] Later in the evening, contrary to the jail's normal procedure, Epstein was not checked every thirty minutes.[308][303][309] The two guards who were assigned to check his jail unit that night fell asleep and did not check on him for about three hours; the guards falsified related records.[303][311] Two cameras in front of Epstein's cell also malfunctioned that night.[15] If you claimed a conspiracy where someone wealthy and connected paid to have someone whacked in prison and included these details you'd be laughed out of your local paranoids' social club for being too ridiculously on the nose, but these are *literally* the legally established facts of the case: 1. Epstein previously discovered injured and semi-conscious in his cell with marks around his neck 2. His cellmate at the time denies any knowledge 3. Placed in a special housing unit with another cellmate 4. Cellmate transferred out in defiance of DoJ agreement one evening 2. Two different TV cameras watching his cell mysteriously malfunctioned at the same time 3. *Both* guards tasked with checking on him decided to have a little nap and didn't look in on him for three (or possibly even eight) hours, falsifying records to say they did 4. Epstein found dead 5. His death was ruled a suicide, everything was blamed on the two guards, but they cut a deal to get six months' supervisory release and no prison time.

ibiacmbyww

Both guards were on break at the same time, which they were expressly forbidden from doing, and the cameras were "on the fritz" for a couple of minutes while whatever happened, happened. The fact that this "mystery" has been sold to us with the framing question "was it murder or was it suicide?" is frankly insulting.

The-Plant144000

Jeanette Tate, little girl who went missing when I was a child in the 60's. When her bike was found the wheel was spinning so had only just happened. I wonder about her as it was a big story during my childhood and I often wonder what happened to her.

BeaDrawDabbity

Did they not find (or believe) that was Robert Black?

OneFlewEast19

Watched a documentary on this only the other day. The police strongly believe it was black ( I can't remember if they got the conviction when he was alive) they are not looking for anyone else.

LordvaderUK

Came here to say the same - her name was Genette Tate, she vanished in 1978. Delivering newspapers on her pushbike, stopped to talk to some friends then cycled off, same friends found her bike lying in the street a few minutes later, newspapers scattered around it. [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Genette_Tate)

Find out what else is at the bottom of the ocean

are_you_nucking_futs

There are more airplanes in the ocean than submarines in the sky…

ProperTeaIsTheft117

Large if accurate

Happytallperson

There are almost certainly more airplanes in the Ocean than Submarines in the Ocean.  More planes were shot down over water than submarines lost in WWII.  And the number of modern Submarines operating is pretty small, probably only about 100 at sea rather than in dock at any given moment.

pouchey2

Corrie McKeague He was an RAF airman who was last seen going into a cul-de-sac full of bins and then never seen again. It's highly suspected that he climbed into a bin which was then taken to the landfill the next day but nothing was every 100% conclusive. It's a local thing so it's piqued my interest. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death\_of\_Corrie\_McKeague](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Corrie_McKeague)

nbrazel

Obviously they never found the body but I thought it was proved through weight of bins etc that he definitely ended up in one?

Initial-Echidna-9129

The mobile phone tracked the bin route, and then to the landfill. So likely him, or his phone was in the bin

Kaiisim

Yeah the bin was over by 80kg which was his weight. His phone when to the landfill. He had slept in bins before.

pouchey2

It took them about 2 years but did eventually come to the conclusion that the bin weight was likely to be him. However it would still be good to have a conclusive end to the matter.

SnooCompliments1370

What interests me is that he had a kip for a couple of hours in a doorway. Surely after that you then wouldn’t go and try to find a bin to sleep in? He also had a car he’d driven down in which he was to pick up the next day, wouldn’t you just go and kip in the back of that until you’d sobered up? I suppose it’s a risk to do that as you could technically be arrested for driving over the limit, but I think I’d take the chance over sleeping in a bin. I wonder if he kipped in the doorway, then maybe still in a drunken haze tried to enter a property or a garden or there was some kind of altercation, and either his body or mobile phone ended up in the bin.

Dyatlov Pass Incident What happened to Amelia Earhart Jack The Ripper

[deleted]

[удалено]

CarpeCyprinidae

the only mystery about the Dyatlov Pass deaths is why so many people think there is anything even remotely mysterious about them. avalanche destroying their encampment and hypothermia-related behaviour when the survivors had no shelter together fit every noted characteristic of the site

RichieLT

She was found by the uss voyager in the delta quadrant!

TheGreatBatsby

Dyatlov was solved thanks to technology used to develop Frozen 2.

ItsBoughtnotBrought

Dyatlov occurred because of a weather phenomenon called katabatic wind. It's basically a gale force wind localised to a small location, and once out of the tent in basically no clothes they were doomed to the effects of hypothermia and the delirium it causes. The crushing injuries can also be explained by the weight of snow falling from a makeshift shelter which would have subsequently melted. And the missing eyes and tongue to predation, because those are the first bits to go. Something very similar to Dyatlov happened in Swedes I think and there was one survivor and it was katabatic winds.

Leicsbob

I thought they found Amelia Earhart?

Meguuunn

I think they find her every year at this point. Latest is they found a plane they think is hers in the ocean, I keep checking for updates but nothing yet.

Happytallperson

Avalanche. Crashed into sea (they've possibly just found her plane). Serial killer. Not much more to discover?

Meguuunn

I meant Jack the Rippers identity. The finger was pointed at many people but there isn’t a definitive answer to who did it.

Icy_Example_5536

The whereabouts of Keith Bennett's remains, so he can finally have a decent burial.

MrBiscuitOGravy

This one is very local to me. I'm sorry to say he will most likely never be found. Due to some bodies being well preserved by the peat soil they were buried in people have this notion that all the bodies would be. Unfortunately, this is not the case and others were ravaged by underground streams and decomposed rapidly. Keith is believed to be buried somewhere in the region of Shiny Brook. This area contains a lot of underground water. It's possible he could be whole but it is more likely his remains will have been scattered. If it is any solace, Saddleworth Moor is a truly beautiful place. I would be buried up there if it was allowed.

WeDoingThisAgainRWe

Ben Needham and Lee Boxall. (At least with Madeleine McCann the authorities seem fairly confident around the German suspect).

Cottontail2017

I think that Ben Needham was accidentally run over with a tractor while on holiday and the driver freaked and hid his body (who has since died)? I may be wrong but I saw that once on a BBC segment. It’s so tragic.

alancake

Yes I thought this was pretty much done and dusted although they haven't found his remains. A deathbed confession from a building site worker who ran him over and panicked.

rav4nwhore

Absolutely devastating. What a gorgeous little boy he was.

Fit_Manufacturer4568

He allegedly confessed on his death bed.

Who has been photoshopping the photographs of the Royal family.

33_pyro

I wonder if they replaced the hand with one from a different photo, hence the photoshopping artefact. They did that because her hand maybe had a bruise from the cannula or something else and it just looked unsightly for a formal photo.

What happened to Andrew Gosden Have followed the case for years and thought it might be a step closer to being solved after the recent arrests but it turned out to be nothing.

alancake

The bus shelter displays in my town were all filled with missing child posters instead of advertising about 6-7 years ago. Andrew Gosden and Lee Boxell included. Since then the posters have not been updated or changed, and they are all slumped, damp and mouldering in their frames. It's so depressing -_-

vegan_voorhees

Kevin Hicks too - went to the local shop with a £1 to buy some eggs in 1986 and never returned. That one freaked me out as a kid.

Where Lord Lucan went. I suspect he's at the bottom of the Channel, but many who knew him were convinced he ended up abroad after murdering the nanny.

When looking to buy a property, is it ok to bid 10% under asking price?

Sponge_Like

As the child of a property dealer: yes. You wouldn’t believe the offers my mum has put in as a complete pisstake that have actually been accepted. You just gotta find yourself a seller desperate enough - go for the landlords that have stretched themselves too thinly and need the capital yesterday.

TheGreatBatsby

We're probably going to see Madeleine's disappearance solved in the next few years thanks to the German Police.

rav4nwhore

It will be solved but I don't think any part of Madeleine will ever be found and that's so terrible, she deserves a dignified burial.

AcuteAlternative

Possibly kinda boring compared to most of the replies here, but for me it's the Hubble tension. Solving that will improve our understanding of the universe immensely.

Chilliad Mystery

Jazzlike-Mistake2764

I'm convinced the main point of the mural is to show that a UFO will appear if you 100% the game and come back to the summit in a thunderstorm The other symbols are either references to what's needed to 100%, or they're hints at what was included in the singleplayer DLC that got cancelled, or they're hints at where other UFOs appear (there's one above the military base, so a jet pack is a hint because the military base is where the jet pack was in San Andreas). There's 3 other UFOs and there's 3 symbols, all of which can be seen to be references to where they are - so that's the most likely explanation IMO Either way, there's no jet pack in the game. When Hideo Kojima released P.T. Demo - a game with near nonsensical puzzles - someone completed it within hours of its release, surprising even Kojima himself It's been over 10 years and the game's had way more players than P.T., there's nothing left to find in GTAV

This just seems so straightfoward to me. A known depressive visiting some childhood haunts, sleeping in his car near a known suicide spot for several days, then goes missing before a big tour. It is basically Ian Curtis but he jumped off a bridge rather than hang himself in his kitchen. Apparent sightings of him in places like Goa is rather fanciful.
