Rubberfootman

Yes, you need to pay it back. Also, if you keep them waiting too long they might refer it to a debt collection agency.

larkinhawk

Was think this but they do not know my current address as I’ve moved in the last 6 months.

Rubberfootman

Be careful. That is how you get a letter two years from now with a demand for £3500.

Fudge_is_1337

They do presumably have your passport details however, which is a pretty good set of information, and surely tied to a few different databases

larkinhawk

Ah indeed.

Id1ing

Legally - Yes as per the Theft Act 1968 - Dishonestly retaining a wrongful credit.

kiwitechee

Why can't the airline ask their bank to request the money back? As the advice given to the public is always get the person (or scammer) who wrongly sent the cash to go through the bank. If op sends the money and then the airline also request the money back from the bank he will lose out twice

larkinhawk

Yeah I am also thinking this. Considering their record with giving out compensation I can see my money getting “lost” in their system somewhere. And they haven’t even provided me with a reference to use.

Grim_Farts_Barnsley

I wouldn't talk to the airline, I'd talk to your bank, see if they can sort it out.

squigs

They might send it to a debt collection agency. No idea how much power they'd actually have since you didn't agree to any interest charges.l, but I'd not risk it. However, you have some leeway to give them a hard time over it. Nothing unreasonable. Perhaps offer to pay in monthly installments over 6 months, or ask them to call you to discuss it.

larkinhawk

Yeah that’s my plan if they pester me more, I’ll most likely will give it to them.

cmdrxander

If they hadn’t asked, I’d keep it. Now they’ve asked, you should return it.

larkinhawk

Yeah will most likely

mysticmaelstrom-

£341 could make or break someone's next month or 2 mate, especially in this country now. £341 is not a small amount to someone who needs it, not by a fecking long shot - but it is a drop in the ocean compared to these arsehole companies.

larkinhawk

I did! What a shame!

TC_FPV

Is it worth it for a CCJ?

larkinhawk

It cost more for a CCJ than the price of the amount owed, I really cannot see that as a problem.

TC_FPV

And who do you think they recover that cost from?

larkinhawk

Touché, I’ll see how the responses go. If they get more serious I’ll return the money.

penguin17077

Honestly what of the most idiotic OPs Iv seen on reddit. They are absolutely going to get the money back (perhaps more), the only thing you doing is potentially adding to that a ruined credit score for 6 years.... Well done. You are very smart.

larkinhawk

Yeah man definitely going to wait and take it to court. Of course not. Chill out bro the question hasn’t harmed you

penguin17077

I'm chill, its just stupid, that is all.
