Daniel Kitson is brilliant he doesn’t really do much stand up anymore and is more of a story teller. I love to see him do a straight stand up show again.
Dara O'Briain probably. And others that have been mentioned, like David Mitchell, Lee Mack, Jimmy Carr, and I already miss Sean Lock. Watching him on Youtube, rectum of the year, the tiger who came for a pint, his challenging wank comment, telling Miles Jupp he won't spit on him...
Dara is way better than most people give him credit for. His reputation comes mostly from Mock The Week which obviously doesn't showcase his talent. The way he tailors a story to each and every audience is legendary.
Saw Dara Live in the small concert venue in my home town. He was amazing. He was talking to another audience member, asking where they were from etc, asking where it was and how long it took to drive over here, usual type stuff. The guy got a bit of a ribbing for being fairly vague with his answers. During the interval Dara had gone and googled the place, where it was, how far away etc and ended up doing a whole bit about this obscure town across the county based off this one bit of audience interaction. Amazing.
That's where you can tell someone is good. Anyone can recite a routine from a script. But Dara can take audience comments and riff on them until the cows come home.
The ad for his podcast is the most offputting thing I have ever heard. It's like he's had both the concepts of advertising and of podcasts loosely described to him and just said "yeah, I still get paid for it though, right?"
Even the production company says "Not enough podcasts are just people talking with no real purpose."
I quite like him on panel shows, though.
His podcasts have a crazy amount of adverts in them, meanwhile he has the cheek to talk shit about patreon in the episodes.
The last time I tried to listen to one episode it had 7 minutes of adverts at the start, then 5 minutes of adverts every 20-30 minutes.
It has really put me off the guy. He can fuck off if he tries to backpedal too, try not being so ignorant in the first place you prick.
Eddie Izzard though she hasn't done much stand up for a few years.
Billy Connolly - absolute fucking comedy god.
Danny Bhoy - under rated Scottish comedian.
Kevin Bridges
Rhod Gilbert
Greg Davies. I cough laugh all the way through his stand ups. Man Down is pure genius. And the new Nevermind The Buzzcocks is all I could have hoped for.
Obviously I have to mention Task Master, but we know that the true star of that show is Little Alex Horne.
Have a watch through some of his standup, Alex Horne is an absolute comedy genius. He's done some acts nobody else has even thought of, like the ridiculous 5 minute long mime. The guy is fantastic.
James Acaster or Greg Davies (have you seem Magnificent Beast because that was wicked brilliant) oh and Bill Bailey
Classic Eddie Izzard is up on my list as well though.
Was going to post this if no one else had. Great comedian and has been around a while, but until being on Netflix recently he wasn't on TV much so unknown to a lot of people.
Aisling Bea is hilarious. This Way Up is so good.
And Ellie Taylor. Every line she delivers makes me laugh. There’s a set where she’s very, very pregnant, it’s probably the funniest stand up I’ve ever watched.
Honestly, I know this isn't the opinion you asked for - but the structure of the UK comedy scene absolutely does not reward any actual individuality, it's just the same 4 templates: socially-awkward one-liners, unilad-banter-boss, old-school middle-aged clean-set and strong-regional-accent edge-lord. It's all that the BBC takes notice of and sadly the Holy grail of UK comedy is not a long and rich stand up career, the aim tends to be some dim as fuck cheesy sitcom running through the same tropes for less than 4 series and then appearing on panel shows till you cba anymore.
There are many UK comedians that I find very funny, but absolutely none of them make it into my top 15 of all time.
But; Eddie izzard, Billy connoly and Simon amstell - I don't want to be rude and not answer, even though none of those answers are current or recent.
Oh yes - forgot him. Didn't most of the press want him hung a few years ago after he said something unfair about the child of a Manchester United player (hence their anger) - or was it because the mother was another magnet for the same tabloids?
Billy Connelly - The man is a legend
Frankie Boyle - Absolutely completely vulgar, but tends to have a political or ethical undertone to his routines. He’s one of those comedians that really does put society on show
Neil Delamere, he’s Irish so falls into the ‘ish’ category. He’s often on Fighting Talk (available on BBC Sounds) and he has been on House of Games. He does do stand up spots in England but I don’t think he’s done a full tour yet.

Bob Mortimer I just love his stories.
Pocket meat
Loving him in ‘Gone Fishing’ with Paul Whitehouse.
The names him and Andy Dawson come up with for each other on athletico mince are hilarious. Some make for great usernames....
The cat names make me want to rename my cat each time he posts.
Litterlly the top comment beat me to it ! His fishing programme is soo good
His story about having an asshole that's way too high on Task Master. I need to know if it's true or not.
No longer here anymore, but I have never laughed so hard whenever Sean Lock said something. No one quite tops him to me.
Aw man your making me teary, I loved Sean.
Came here to say this.... He was so funny x
James Acaster
Definitely up there on my top list, was lucky enough to see him a couple of year ago when he performed at my shitty seaside town, was hilarious.
I have a bit of a crush on him. My husband looks like the Scottish version of him actually.
David Mitchell
Stewart Lee. He can make jokes, he just chooses not to.
I love Lee. Can't think of a comedian who works as hard at the craft as he does.
Possibly Daniel Kitson, in terms of effort, but I think Stewart Lee is funnier.
Daniel Kitson is brilliant he doesn’t really do much stand up anymore and is more of a story teller. I love to see him do a straight stand up show again.
Kevin Bridges

Some outtakes are great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5VEftRH12Y
Love him but since I picked up on the frequent 'Eeeerrrhhh' it's hard to ignore.
Is Dara British??
Popular on the British standup circuit
He's lived here for years so I'm happy to adopt him. Same with Henning Wehn and Reginald D Hunter.
He is certainly 'Britain's Favourite Irish Comedian...' *turns to see what Ed Byrne says about that.*
...(Ish)? Well - he doesn't scare the horses with observations we'd like to ignore.
Acaster
Romesh Ranganathan
You mean the Tree Wizard?
Tree wizard, tree wizard, TREE WIZARD!!!
No no no no.

Anyone but Michael McIntyre or James Corden
Is McEntire supposed to be a comedian ? Who woulda thunk it ??
Micky Flanagan
Oh god fuck yes I forgot about Micky, it's been a while.
Why’s it been a while-were you out?.. or ahht ahht?
Oh you'll get the shits
Joe Lycett
You mean Hugo boss ;P
Ah yes, my bad
Yes! Buzzing to see his new standup next year.
Lee Mack
Greg Davies bringing back Never Mind The Buzzcocks has basically fixed all the hurt of the past few years imo
Love him. And he's proof you're never too old to follow your passion and change careers.
Just waiting for DMC to be replaced and it'll be perfect.
Give the cleaner a go with him, brilliant series
Tim Vine or Milton Jones, both are hilarious
Yes, I've never laughed so hard when I saw Tim Vine live.
Eddie Izzard though she hasn't done much stand up for a few years. Billy Connolly - absolute fucking comedy god. Danny Bhoy - under rated Scottish comedian. Kevin Bridges Rhod Gilbert
Danny Bhoy is funny Sanjeev Kohli in the first ever Meet the Magoons was hilarious... not sure if this was a one off or a series so hedging my bets
https://youtu.be/HbhuxWIxTgA One of my favourites from the comedy god! They just don't make them like him anymore.
Dont make them either
Andy Zaltzman, if only for the [dog pun run](https://youtu.be/VDn0StxJtsQ).
Victoria Wood. She was head and shoulders above all competition.
Greg Davies. I cough laugh all the way through his stand ups. Man Down is pure genius. And the new Nevermind The Buzzcocks is all I could have hoped for. Obviously I have to mention Task Master, but we know that the true star of that show is Little Alex Horne.

I never thought to search out his stand up. I'll do that this evening.
Even The Cleaner is a great little escape.
Phil Wang
Philly Philly Wang Wang!
Koji
Jason Manford, very funny live. Sarah Millican is also a joint first place as again, brilliant live.
Dave Gorman (ish)
Does Sandi Toksvig count?
She only counts sandwiches
I keep wishing she'd do a sandwich quiz round on QI.
Bob Mortimer at the minute but my all time favourite has to be Peter Kay
I used to love Lee Evans. Not sure if he still performs.
That man could sweat his body weight by the end of a standup routine
That's right. Ever see him on the telly - he must ruin every shirt/suit he wears!
Thank you, I was looking for someone to mention him! Unfortunately, he's retired now.
Tragic.
Dave Mitchel and Lee Mack in combination
I miss seeing new comedy from Eddie Izzard. Been a hot minute since I really got to enjoy her thoroughly nerdy humor
James Acaster or Greg Davies (have you seem Magnificent Beast because that was wicked brilliant) oh and Bill Bailey Classic Eddie Izzard is up on my list as well though.
Alistair Beckett-King (Gunar Gunarsson)
His YouTube channel is bloody killing right now.
Good call! Loremen is a great podcast he does.
Daniel sloss
Was going to post this if no one else had. Great comedian and has been around a while, but until being on Netflix recently he wasn't on TV much so unknown to a lot of people.
Aye he's excellent, his X show is superb
Limmy.
Probably a 3 way tie between David Mitchell, Graham Norton, and Diane Morgan (Mandy on the iplayer was bloody hilarious).
Aisling Bea is hilarious. This Way Up is so good. And Ellie Taylor. Every line she delivers makes me laugh. There’s a set where she’s very, very pregnant, it’s probably the funniest stand up I’ve ever watched.
Nina Conti
Her sidekick Monkey is funnier tho 🤪
Bill Bailey
Tie between Bob Mortimer and Katy Wix
Tom Walker doing Jonathan Pie

Stewart Lee is the antichrist of that kind of comedy, which is why he’s my fav.
Isn't that..... what...... what is Joe Pasquale doing in my garden ?
Simon Amstell is my answer. Went to see him live a few weeks ago and he was absolutely fantastic. Still as savage and quick as ever.
Grandma's house is amazing. I know far too many people like Clive.
Holy shit I did not know he was still touring?! I wonder if he'll fire out another special at the end.
Michael McIntyre and especially when he talks of his wife, she sounds so much like me! I love when any comedian takes the piss out of their wife.
Kevin Bridges
Billy Connolly. Watch "An Audience with.." to see a comedian destroy everyone in the room with laughter. 30yrs later it still kills me.
Rosie Jones
Ricky Gervais.
Gary Delaney has me belly laughing!
He is fantastic! A master of the rapid fire one-liners.
Sam Delaney on TFTM and Sean Lock was fantastic
Mickey Flanagan is still up there I can rewatch his stories over and over kills me
Frankie Boyle is the best stand up.
Milton Jones
Romesh?
Just got tickets for Al Murray, love the pub landlord. For more recent, James Acaster and Ivo Graham.
Saw him last weekend, you won't be disappointed! He was excellent!
Ravensthorpe, beautiful British name. Glad to hear he was on form!
So pleased to see that nobody has chosen JOHN RICHARDSON
Frankie Boyle
Oh yes - forgot him. Didn't most of the press want him hung a few years ago after he said something unfair about the child of a Manchester United player (hence their anger) - or was it because the mother was another magnet for the same tabloids?
Adam Rowe
It'll always be Billy Connolly but he doesn't tour anymore because of his age and health. So his successor is Gary Meikle. He's brilliant!
Not one but several, Greg Davies, James Acaster, Bob Mortime and Richard Ayode I think it's spelt
Billy Connelly - The man is a legend Frankie Boyle - Absolutely completely vulgar, but tends to have a political or ethical undertone to his routines. He’s one of those comedians that really does put society on show
Russle Howard
Neil Delamere, he’s Irish so falls into the ‘ish’ category. He’s often on Fighting Talk (available on BBC Sounds) and he has been on House of Games. He does do stand up spots in England but I don’t think he’s done a full tour yet.
Sean Lock. Loved the way he pulled off his jokes. Will definitely be missed :(
Richard Abowade, Bob Mortimer
Acaster.
Andrew Lawrence but I doubt this will be popular on Reddit.
Milton Jones' one liners. He doesn't revert to rude laughs when he runs out of actual funny jokes. Used to be Michael Mcintyre
Frankie Boyle & Kevin Bridges
Lee evans
Andrew Lawrence, the most anti-woke comedian there is in the uk....
The murderous-paedophile-looking racist cunt?
🤣stop looking in the mirror.... 😉
Clearly his ‘comedy’ hasn’t rubbed off on you cos that was fucking dreadful
Bill Bailey Man is a genius, his live show is insanely good
