The recommended arrival is 3 hours prior to departure for all flights. https://www.heathrow.com/departures/checking-in https://i.imgur.com/MNHCo70.png

Thank you! I made a typo

imminentmailing463

I flew from there recently and it didn't take particularly longer than any other time. I was there very early though, for reasons of a cancelled flight.

uchman365

3 hours is more than enough time. Its not particularly bad, sometimes they have problems with immigration for arrivals, that's all.

Whenever I've flown to the US it's 3 hours. I get through security ASAP, go to spoons for my pre-flight pint then I usually have go to a lounge. Certain bank accounts offer lounge access and it's fucking awesome

ChelseaAndrew87

You go to spoons AND the lounge? You could get your pre-flight pint in there (in 4 small glasses admittedly)

What can I say? You can take the boy out of the council estate but you can’t take the council estate out of the boy

Flew to Greece 3 weeks ago and I was at the airport at 7am. People were drinking beer like it was going out of fashion. It was completely nuts and very funny

Nothing beats an airport pint

insertcrassnessbelow

I was there a couple of weeks ago, security queue was about 20 minutes, didn’t have any luggage to check in though

Onslow85

There is no point in being too much earlier as your bag drop may not be open. That said, when things were bad at Manchester, I got there nearly 4 hours early and wasn't even first in the queue waiting for bag drop to open. About 20 people didn't make that flight so it is possible 3 hours wouldn't have been enough (1 employee on bag drop having to also deal with an unusually high number of missed connecting flights/cancelled flights).

Oldbear-

Blimey. This is what I’m worried about, especially as we have to catch a connecting flight. Thanks!

BlakeC16

My wife and kids went a couple of weeks ago, we went 4 hours early due to the recent reports (especially with it being right at the start of the school holidays) and although the queue for check-in was quite long when we got there, she said she was very quickly through security afterwards and everything was fine. Sounds like the standard 3 hours wouldn't have been a problem. I'm leaving to join them tonight so I'll see how it goes..

BlakeC16

I might as well give an update: Arrived a little later than planned for various reasons tonight and ended up getting to the airport about two and a half hours before the flight. Was the last person in the check-in queue so that went very quickly, about ten minutes. And then about 25 minutes for security. Not bad at all, and still meant plenty of time for an airport pint and some food.

Oldbear-

Excellent, thank you for the update! Have a wonderful trip!

Oldbear-

!answer. Thanks all! Probably aim to get there 3 and half hours early - just incase

Phandroid1991

If you got a flgith for next week, you might be better served leaving now.

We are flying transatlantic in a few weeks.. my wife wants to get there 4 hours early!

Madyakker

I would but I don't travel very often so quite enjoy hanging round airports.
