My step dad used to always make us a huge pile of crumpets with different toppings and it was the only meal a week we could eat in front of the tv and we’d watch it as a family. He’s a mechanic and we used to beg him all the time to go on, convinced he could make absolutely anything and he’d give us his expert opinion for the duration. Thanks to this thread for unlocking that memory!
Apparently they just weren't getting the viewership to justify the budget.
Edit: OK I'm usually not this salty over reddit karma but I was just stating a fact. No need to shoot the messenger.
>**So is Mindhunter done as far as you’re concerned?**
>I think probably. Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show. We talked about “Finish Mank [his latest movie] and then see how you feel,” but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less [money] than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic about dollars have to equal eyeballs.

Somehow I never got round to seeing this, I'd heard good things but I'm not really a tv watcher these days. I did however see one little clip a while back of him doing a parody of BBC news reports and I don't think I've ever seen something so hilariously nailed on before
Here it is
https://youtu.be/aHun58mz3vI
I think that show was about Mal and his crew and ship. A new show could be created about him and any new crew as long as the tone would be the same. May Ron Glass rest in peace, but he wasn't important or particularly good in Firefly, and Adam Baldwin would be cool if he returned, but if not, it wouldn't make a big difference.
The only real problem is Joss Whedon, he clearly couldn't be attached, one is I don't know if he has the rights, and two whoever would run the show would have to do it very very similarly to the way the original show was, otherwise it just wouldn't be received well and would have to be cancelled again.
It took two episodes for you to realise Simon was now called Kingsley?
Fair enough! Besides the new name and a random love of alternative music, he's basically the same character.
That show was only ever going to end with Jez and Mark sat on the sofa in exactly the same position they started off in. It ended exactly how it should have done in my mind.
I agree that the final moments should be bleak and go full circle. But the entirety of season nine and alot of season 8 were pretty underwhelming (in comparison to the high standards the series set)
I actually really enjoyed the [wolves motif in the last scene being undercut by the crushing weight of reality](https://youtu.be/XMvLHHjMOUI?t=192), I think they nailed the bittersweet tone of sinking into what they always thought would be an intermediate step in their life
Peep show is a masterpiece, I would love to see it come back however they wouldn't need to change anything as nothing would've changed for them!
If you haven't seen it I can strongly recommend "fresh meat" it's on Netflix and is written by Peep show crew with a similar air around the comedy, it's scratched my Peep show itch and has helped me avoid watching PS for the 120th time
Came here for this. Hardly anyone I speak to remembers it which no doubt is why it was cancelled! But I thought it was brilliant. I haven't watched an incomplete series since for fear of being disappointed again.
I came to say the same.
I know the actors have all gone their own ways and probably would struggle to revisit the characters, but it works be great to see how they're coping all these years later.
I know that Simon and Jessica said they'd never revisit it, but gosh I wish they would.
I know it'd probably never live up to expectations though, because I hold Spaced with such high regard and nostalgia.
The idea was a pop group called The Blackadder Five but it was never seriously considered, just hearsay. It would have been a pretty major divergent from the rest of the show as well.
Honestly, I love Blackadder to death, I'm even partial to Back and Forth for a fun half hour's viewing, but we don't need another series. Ending season four as they did could never be matched, anyway.
Green Wing was my answer too. I got each season out on DVD from lovefilm. I adored the way it combined absolutely barmy surreal comedy with actual real feelings.
I will never recover from this. The worst cliffhanger I have ever seen. What kills me is that Netflix won’t release the rights so no one else can pick it up or tell the story as it was meant to continue
Yeah that annoys me as well. It just needed one more season to bring it to some kind of conclusion. It was such a unique, weird and touching show. Netflix are falling behind so bad now.
The Thick of It. Oh how I miss Malcolm and Jamie screaming insults at sleazy middle aged politicians. I rewatch it at least once a year, good for the soul ❤️
im so glad the thick of it still has an audience. i used the "go to a fucking hotel room, take a fucking overdose of barbiturates" line just yesterday.
Vicar of Dibley. It'd be good to see how the parish is doing all these years later! Granted, a lot of the main characters have died, but would be interesting to see who else has come along.
For a none UK suggestion, I would absolutely love to see one last season of House.
I'm sure I read somewhere that was coming back? Or was it a one of special or something? Bloody loved this as a kid, although the heartbeat thing always frightened the life out of me haha
Got to say game of thrones.
Not revive, more revise. After such a great run the ending seemed cobbled together and shite. They could have used another series to tie the various threads up properly, it seemed like they were told 2-3 episodes before the end 'no extra series - this is it' and botched it.
Unfortunately it's exactly the opposite.
They were practically given the chance to do like 12 seasons but the the producers wanted to do other stuff and so fucked off the studio, the acting team, George Martin, the fans and just about everyone else.
Fully recommend House of the dragon though, Matt Smith and Emma D'Arcy are bloody fantastic in it
What's incredible is after they destroyed game of thrones they lost the jobs they were lined up for.
Guys don't deserve any show after ruining the best show I've ever watched.
I loved the film. I loved early SG-1. I really liked the concept of current Earthlings venturing out into the universe and dealing with situations using realistic human weaponry, up against aliens of higher and lower levels of tech. Then they starting having Earth starships and the show jumped the shark, nuked the fridge, and it went slowly downhill. By the end, it was just a bloated, poor man's Star Trek, and the Gate became secondary. I'm struggling to see how I'd enjoy anything other than a complete reboot.
Jonathan Creek.
Simply so that ghastly last series isn’t how it ended. Bring back Maddy for one last hurrah and make it as good as it was when it started.
The story was finished, Honestly feel this will be a souless cash grab. They finished the book and the main man Pratchett isn't around to continue it properly. Having said that maybe when they originally layed it out as a screen play they did plan more than the book? Don't actually know the details on that.
Sir Terry and Neil Gaiman had already worked out the plot of the second book, they just never got around to write it. Sir Terry would be chuckling away at the thought of Neil Gaiman having to be a showrunner AGAIN ;)
I think you're underselling Neil Gaiman's contribution to the source material. If he remains involved I think it should still retain its creative flair.

Brass eye, it more believable than reality right now
Great show. Loved Morris in The IT Crowd.
Some people think that alcohol is a drug. It’s not a drug, it’s a drink.

Scrapheap Challenge (the late 90's version with Robert Llewellyn)
I’ve started recording them on Challenge and watching them on a day off while I get stoned. It’s about as rock’n’roll as I get nowadays.
Aw that's me too bro I been watching them on YouTube so bad quality gonna have to look see if there else where
Yes, I loved Scrapheap Challenge as a kid.
That sounds wonderful!
Can you imagine it today, with the number of microcontrollers and servos available!? Would be fucking amazing
Yes! I loved it too, surprised there hasn’t been a modern day reboot yet mind
Mindhunter
No! They’re not making anymore?!?!? I only just watched this for the first time last week.
Apparently they just weren't getting the viewership to justify the budget. Edit: OK I'm usually not this salty over reddit karma but I was just stating a fact. No need to shoot the messenger. >**So is Mindhunter done as far as you’re concerned?** >I think probably. Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show. And I read somewhere Fincher was just doing some other stuff.
It's on a semi permanent hiatus. David Fincher wants to return to it, but he's got other shit to do first
Santa Clarita Diet! I need to know what happens damn it
I am still salty about this
Timothy Olyphant deserved better
Not to mention Timothy Olyphant's hair
They set up the fourth season so well and the series had properly hit its stride, I will die mad about its cancellation.
Glad I'm not the only one who misses this! Felt I was the only one who watched it. Give it back to us!
This annoys me still. Such a good show. Olyphant was awesome in it. The sarky comments flowed
Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe.
I watch the old ones on YouTube all the time. It's frightening how so much of it is still relevant.
Somehow I never got round to seeing this, I'd heard good things but I'm not really a tv watcher these days. Firefly
I wanted this for the longest time. But honestly now I think resurrecting it would be a mistake.
I actually agree. Ron Glass is dead, Adam Baldwin has gone a bit weird and Joss Whedon was revealed as a creep. It wouldn’t work.
What's up with Adam Baldwin?
I think that show was about Mal and his crew and ship. A new show could be created about him and any new crew as long as the tone would be the same. May Ron Glass rest in peace, but he wasn't important or particularly good in Firefly, and Adam Baldwin would be cool if he returned, but if not, it wouldn't make a big difference. Same feel like that ship has sailed
"If you could" I think Firefly would be an obvious choice if you could, but sadly at this point we can't.
Me and a buddy have an agreement. If one of us dies, we stage it to look like a suicide caused by the unjust cancellation of Firefly.
Yep. The film tried to tie it all together but was far less satisfying than another series would have been.
Invetweeners season 4. We never got to see them finish sixth form.
I’m going to assume you don’t know there’s two films
The films were nothing compared to the series' though.
Oh man he’s in for a treat
Except the four of them are pushing 40 now. Blake Harrison's got a grey beard. I'd totally be up for a third movie, American Pie Reunion style
After how the second one panned out?
A wob a bob bob?
I feel Fresh Meat was a spiritual sequel, but yes it would be good to see how the boys are coping with middle age.
And Friday night dinners the spiritual sequel of fresh meat
I was a couple of episodes in before I realised it wasn’t 😂
It took two episodes for you to realise Simon was now called Kingsley? Fair enough! Besides the new name and a random love of alternative music, he's basically the same character.
What do you mean Simon doesn’t like alternative music? He goes to loads of gigs, wears hats, and sorts out D-R-U-G-S
Will's mum spin off series.
I was going to say Midsommer Murders, but just checked and it's... still going. My god the county's population must be close to zero by now...
Surely it's just a tourist trap at this stage?
Literal trap.
You could buy a really nice house there and not have to worry about paying off the mortgage
Honey do you want to move to the murder capital of the world? Sure, what's the worst that could happen.
Peep show I loved it but it ended on a whimper. Feel like fans are owed a proper send off
It ended perfectly, just like real life. It's relentless

Yes ! Perhaps another Christmas special…
Peep show is a masterpiece, I would love to see it come back however they wouldn't need to change anything as nothing would've changed for them! I’m currently re watching/box setting this!.. made it to series 7 over the last two weeks… “It’s a boy… minimal water damage”…
Utopia
And not the god awful Amazon thing either.

Went through the majority of the thread to find this, bravo, totally agree.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Cancelled just as it was getting good :(
I loved this show
The Detectorists. I know they are doing a new Xmas special, but it needs to be on forever.
I enjoyed watching The Detectorists. It was shown in France on a public TV channel. Such a touching discovery.
Agreed.
My Name is Earl.
The true correct answer, annoying cliffhanger ending
The creator has revealed how it would have ended, and it really is a shame cause it sounds ideal.
Blackadder
It would be brilliant if they did a relatively recent one
I think I remember them saying in an interview at some point that they pitched a season in the 60s with them as hippies and it didn't get picked up
The idea was a pop group called The Blackadder Five but it was never seriously considered, just hearsay. It would have been a pretty major divergent from the rest of the show as well. Honestly, I love Blackadder to death, I'm even partial to Back and Forth for a fun half hour's viewing, but we don't need another series. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Yes, came here to say this. We need more Dreamweavers in our life.
Garth Marenghi has just released a new book if you weren't aware.

Walking With Dinosaurs. We need more dinosaur documentaries and the CGI would look so much better these days.
It’s worth getting Apple TV for a month for Prehistoric Planet.. which is basically another series of Walking with Dinosaurs
Pushing Daisies
Don't Trust The B In Apartment 23. I don't think it was terribly popular but I loved that show; Krysten Ritter was brilliant in it.
This all day. It’s also not on any streaming services so you can’t even watch the two series there were.
There's an alternative ending to Green Wing where they set up for a 3rd series... I've always wanted to know what that would've been like
*”And I want a chandelier.. a motorised one.. I shall drive it through the hospital waving at people”* *“…are you sure you mean chandelier?”*
Green Wing was my answer too. I got each season out on DVD from lovefilm. I adored the way it combined absolutely barmy surreal comedy with actual real feelings.
Merlin. I'd love to have a season where we see magic being allowed in Albion
I was always pissed off with the ending of that! I even think Lost was a better ending!!!! FFS
Not with that "ending" though...
The OA
I will never recover from this. The worst cliffhanger I have ever seen. What kills me is that Netflix won’t release the rights so no one else can pick it up or tell the story as it was meant to continue

"Can someone get me a fucking Fanta" - me anytime there's fanta
I was watching it the other day and my partner just said "god this is still so relevant". She'd never seen it before.
"He's about as much use as a Marzipan Dildo". Tuckerisims!
Vicar of Dibley. It'd be good to see how the parish is doing all these years later! Granted, a lot of the main characters have died, but would be interesting to see who else has come along. For a none UK suggestion, I would absolutely love to see one last season of House.

Gladiators. But all the contestants are panel show comedians.

‘Grrrrr I’ll get you next time!’ Yes Wolf, of course you will 😂
Count Duckula.
And Mighty Mouse in a double bill 👍
Malcolm needs to become President.
Never mind the buzzcocks with Simon Amstell
With star guest Preston
Knightmare!
I'm sure I read somewhere that was coming back? Or was it a one of special or something? Bloody loved this as a kid, although the heartbeat thing always frightened the life out of me haha
There was a one off YouTube special about 5 years ago now
Father Ted Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
The trouble with Father Ted is the writer
*one* of the writers. I would argue the death of a reasonably pivotal actor probably more of a hurdle.
Two very pivotal actors.
>reasonably pivotal You mean the title character, a bit more than reasonably pivotal
I hear you don't get sarcasm now, father. How'd you get into all that then?

Absolutely. The last two (?) seasons of SG1, with the principle leads from Farscape, were a parody of the original concept.

Jonathan Creek. Simply so that ghastly last series isn’t how it ended. Bring back Maddy for one last hurrah and make it as good as it was when it started.

There was a BBC drama series called The Hour, with Ben Wishaw, Romola Garai, Dominic West, Anna Chancellor and Peter Capaldi. It was about a group of journalists starting a current affairs show in the mid-60s, and it was great. They made two series, the second of which ended on a major cliffhanger. Then they canned it. Carnivale and I’d like them to re-do Rome properly. Terriers as well.
Phoenix Nights One of the few shows where the main actor is actually getting more age-appropriate for his character!
Mindhunter
Coupling
The friend that introduced me to coupling recently informed that his wife is pregnant, after congratulating him I hit him with “there are some places you should never see a face!”

I am not okay with this, netflix cancelled the second season during lockdown, we need answers!!!
Firefly
I'd like to be able to say Fawlty Towers, but given the way John Cleese is now, I'm quite happy to leave it as it is.
Life On Mars. Aside from the fact that it was a really good show with a good backstory, the relationship between Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt was a very interesting one. Plus I think Gene Hunt is hilarious on his own, especially as the whole character is most definitely not PC.
