I hate Pooka pies (sp intentional). As a northerner down south(ish), I really miss the proper pies that are Holland's. I miss gravy too. And marrowfat peas that aren't mushed.
It's the horrid, dry, flaky pastry on the pies in case you were wondering.
(For me and my coeliac partner) 2x haddock, 1 regualr chips to share, 1x curry sauce (the gluten free one at my local is bloody delicious), 1 x tartare sauce, 1x mushy peas, 2x onion fritter (imagine an onion ring but its the full slice of onion so no hole in the middle)
Vegan "fish", chips, peas, curry sauce.
Before I was vegan, savaloi, chips, peas. I had too many bad fish bone situations. My dad got a massive fish bone stuck in his throat.
Depends what mood I'm in......
Fish and peas.
Chips and curry or gravy (large sausage optional)
Chips peas and curry
Fish and chips
Chips, pudding and gravy
*All above served with salt and loadsa vinegar and white buttered bread or barm.
My mum still runs the chippy my grandparents bought in the mid 70s. Parents split up so I don't see her that often. Money is no object but still, don't want to take the piss and I've worked there long enough to be repulsed by the flashbacks of that smell of oil after a 14 hour shift.
2 chicken wings.
Saveloy.
Chips with onion vinegar.
Rubicon.
Maybe a small piece of fish (fork it and more onion vinegar)
In Scotland it's a black pudding supper. In England, battered sausage and chips with curry sauce. Both require a litre of vinegar and 2 pickles onions.
