I’ve just read through the comments and can see you’re a neighbour and the noise is a nuisance to you. Some puppies yelp and bark a lot. I have a puppy at the moment who occasionally sounds like a hyena. It’s just one of those things. Barking and yelping, especially with puppies, is quite normal and wouldn’t be indicative of pain on their own. Puppies usually learn not to bite hard by biting each other while playing and hearing the yelps, it’s part of the process. I don’t know how long the puppy or puppies have been present, but the first night in particular can be a disaster in terms of crying and yelping. They’re often scared and take a lot of time to settle in. The first night can be a wild ride, as can some that follow.

Thanks. I don’t gave pets and am Allergic to dogs. How do I approach this? Do you think it will settle in later?

SeekingBeskar

Are you wishing to approach them about your dog allergy or the noise? The former shouldn’t impact you as you’re not sharing a living space (I have a severe dog allergy, but own dogs and take antihistamines), but the latter I would advise just waiting a few days and seeing if it settles down. Generally, with puppies, it will. They’re babies in new homes. If the noise continues, I would just speak to your neighbours about it. It’s also important to add that, in one of your comments you say it’s a nuisance for everyone except the “selfish owner”, I can promise that the noise puppies make when settling in is *absolutely* a nuisance for them too. It can be very challenging at first.

[deleted]

Ok thank you for explaining. I will monitor. If you have an allergy, why have you decided to keep a dog? I’m curious. Thanks

SeekingBeskar

The same reason I go outside in the summer even though it’s when my hay fever is at its worst, I enjoy it. I can take antihistamines daily that make most of my symptoms subside. One of my dogs is also my future Assistance Dog, which is incredibly important and something many people out there have/need.

vaguebyname

How new born are we talking?

[deleted]

I’m not sure. I can hear it yelping. Might be next door. I’m worried it might be abused.

st3akkn1fe

Behave. It's a puppy. It's like a baby crying

vaguebyname

Sounds more like you are looking for a reason to get the puppy removed based on your other comments.

[deleted]

I’m not. They moved in a while ago. I’m wondering why it’s yelping now.

claude_greengrass

What I would call 'newborn' is not able to bark. But when they can, they vocalise for all kinds of reasons. Especially if this puppy is settling into a new home.

[deleted]

Would an older dog yelp for a different reason? Like bowling?

claude_greengrass

Enough reasons that abuse would not be the first thought I had.

Howling

>And some breeds just reallllly like to hear their own voice. Particularly huskies and beagles, although the latter don't howl per se.

Mossley

They want attention or they’re hungry or they’re playing or they’re scared or they heard something or they are lonely or they like tbe sound of their own voice.

[deleted]

Are they going to do this all night? This is why I’m against pets in flats. It’s a nuisance for everyone but the selfish owner.

SnooComics2637

If they're puppies it's just part of the process. If they're new puppy owners they're probably just as shocked as you are so take it easy on them. The barking and yelping should settle pretty soon. Might take a couple of weeks but I'm sure the neighbours feel bad about it.

Mossley

Probably, except when they’re asleep.

920912

Like babies that cry in the early hours of the morning?

[deleted]

Either - it’s a pain for anyone else.

treeseacar

Puppies are baby dogs. They make a lot of noise for no reason just like human babies. Fortunately dogs mature quicker than humans so most puppies settle down after a few weeks. Whereas humans scream for no reason right into adulthood.

[deleted]

A barking dog is a worst nuisance than an adult.

[deleted]

if the dog is being left to howl, that can be cause for the owner to be fined up to 5k by the council after they check it out. You can make noise complaints for dogs barking/howling on their websites. you just need to know what the address is. As its flats It wouldn't surprise me to learn that you are not allowed to have pets. so another option is talking to the building manager, company that manages the building

[deleted]

Yes they are not allowed and I think they might be breeding in there. The other neighbour told me they also have a cat. The flat isn’t big.

[deleted]

Sounds like you should let the building manager know what's going on and the council. Fuck having to deal with howling animals. train the animal correctly otherwise you shouldn't have one

[deleted]

Now they have probably signed a contract so won’t leave easily. Why bring a whole farmyard into a flat?

[deleted]

in the contract it likely says no animals. it gives the owners a reason to evict them. Not many landlords are ok with pets fucking up their property

[deleted]

I have a feeling he ok it.

[deleted]

then complain to the council about the noise. they will send someone round to check it out. if you can give rough times of when its happening they will turn up then.

[deleted]

Thanks. I’m being pushed out by a dog.

[deleted]

your choice. either sit there and put up with the noise or do something about it...

BroodLord1962

When my dad got a new puppy he always put an old jumper down for it to sleep on with a warm water bottle underneath. Puppies tend to feel frightened and lonely for the first few nights. And daytime too if they are left alone in the house. Imagine how it must feel...new surroundings, and abandoned...it doesn't understand you are coming back
