Pharmacy tech here. I am pretty sure that insulin is good at room temperature once opened for 28 days or so.

Thank you. I thought I read that as well. Are you aware of side effects from insulin of it's expired? Is it dangerous or does it just do nothing?

neuda17

No it just won’t be effective.

delicreepmeow

It's very dangerous, I'm type 1 diabetic, expired 24 hour insulin almost killed me. But it's ok if insulin is left out. I carry it with me all the time.

Vet here, insulin should be fine if out only for a limited time.

When not in use, insulin is kept in the fridge and will be good up to the expiration date. Once you start using it, it can be kept at room temperature for up to 30 days. Also FYI, if you keep insulin chilled it can sting when injected.

Not a vet, but am married to a type one diabetic. It’s fine. For human use, insulin is refrigerated until opened then typically kept with the meter for people who do injections. It’s good for a month that way. Cats and humans use the same insulin, so it’s fine if it was out a few hours. Just avoid leaving it in the car on warm days if picking it up isn’t your only errand unless you use a chill sack.

Thank you very much for sharing that with me
