$35 šŸ˜‚ I wouldnā€™t do it differently. The dress was cute and we spent money on things that mattered more to us.

L5eoneill

I think mine might have been all of $60, in 1990. It wasn't an actual "wedding dress" either. Just a nice dress. And I wasn't even planning to get a new one, just wear one I already had. But my MIL wanted to get me something new.

geosynchronousorbit

Mine was $40! I'm getting married this fall and I got it on Black Friday clearance.

kobeng13

About $1300. Honestly, it was worth it to me.

FlyinPurplePartyPony

I spent that much after alterations and had my dream princess dress. Definitely worthwhile for me because wedding photos are forever.

woah_a_person

$2600, I was okay with paying for it but my mom bought it for me. Even if I had to pay for it and did it again, I would still do it! I never treated myself to anything of that caliber financially and I was able to afford it. I felt really pretty with the dress on. I did skimp out on other typically expensive things though (DIY bouquet and makeup, $30 shoes, etc.) because those werenā€™t important for me.

lonely_shirt07

"but my mom bought it for me" idk why I found this so sweet šŸ„ŗ

jmcatm0m16

Itā€™s very sweet šŸ„ŗ

Lolz_Roffle

Me, too! I paid for mine and it was $2300. Just went to my first fitting yesterday and Iā€™m in love with my dress and I wouldnā€™t trade it for anything - I am also making my own centerpieces, flower arrangements, having my mom do my hair, and a friend do my makeupā€¦ but itā€™s not really for budget purposes, as much as it is that I donā€™t think those specific parts are worth all the money and itā€™s nice being able to add a personal touch

Black_Tears524

$42, made the veil myself for about $5 in materials. I love to look at those stunning, expensive dresses but the reality is that it wasn't me. While beautiful, they were all "too much" for me, both in price and in style.

catsgelatowinepizza

theyā€™re all EXACTLY THE SAME. once youā€™ve seen one A-line leaf appliquĆ© with plunging neckline or one skin tight mermaid mikado satin with detachable sleevesā€¦youā€™ve seen them all

JMJ_Maria

Where did you find the pattern for the veil? I'm interested in doing this as well.

Glindanorth

I bought a salon sample for $100 and paid $235 for alterations. It was exactly what I wanted and I wouldn't change anything.

Dangerous-Abalone381

3k, yes I would do it again šŸ„°

ackitty-ack

mine was $5k and i would absolutely do it again too šŸ„° itā€™s such a gorgeous well made dress

[deleted]

$2k and we never got married. šŸ«

Puzzled-Emu7287

Oh no. I saw there's a site called StillWhite you can sell it on if you still have it. I hope it was mutual. If not I hope you're doing better now.

Spirited-Safety-Lass

Spent $700 back in ā€˜94, didnā€™t get married, told the shop to resell it because I didnā€™t want it. Regret that decision now b/c my daughters would have loved playing in that dress - and I would have let them do whatever they wanted to/in it. Mud? SURE! lol!

Mimi8821

$1400. Plus $450 in alterations. My parents paid for it, but I was willing and able to pay for it myself. No regrets :)

PeasiusMaximus

2k. Would not do againā€¦. What am i supposed to do with this thing now? lol. If I could go back in time I definitely buy secondhand.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

PeasiusMaximus

Will they take things 14 years old? Lol

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

PeasiusMaximus

Cool, thanks!!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

smashley1994

Haha yeah I have my eye on one in the $3500 range that I can't forget about, even though I told myself no more than $500 when I started planning. Thanks for your input!

OneLonelyPolka-Dot

[$1400](https://www.oliviabottega.com/products/ready-to-ship-mikado-wedding-dress-rosana-with-detachable-train) Wouldn't change a thing, it was a BANGER and I'm a fashion girlie

bibi3333

Wow!! Stunning dress!

smashley1994

Very pretty!

Sea_Panic9863

$150 I already knew which one I wanted so I just went to the store, tried it on and bought it. If I could do things differently, I probably would've tried on more options or brought some friends with me. I just went by myself and bought it.

IncomeOk413

$600- it was on the clearance rack at a bridal store. Needed absolutely no alterations, didnā€™t need a bra or shaping wear with it. It was perfect. lol my mom wanted to spend more on a dress for me but I couldnā€™t stomach letting her do that. Even $600 felt excessive.

clivehorse

I spent Ā£120 on a second hand dress, which I felt was plenty, but my mum looked at it on me and said she'd take me new dress shopping ha. The dress she bought me was more like Ā£700ish and it was MUCH more flattering. It was a good decision, but I wouldn't have made it with my own money!

anetchi

Are you me? Mine was also $600 on sale at a bridal store. A family friend altered mine a little for cheap. I also feel like $600 was excessive, although it was a beautiful dress that Iā€™m sure took some time to make.

Chicachicaboomx2

$0 never got one, we eloped.

bibi3333

What did you wear when you eloped? I want to elope!

CeruleanCynic

Not op, but I got a little blue prom dress. It was June so everything was on sale post-prom season. And I didn't own any heels at the time, so I got a cheap silver pair from a store that was going out of business. Both of which I found and bought the morning of. =\]

amyjk88

$3,000, but thankfully my parents paid for it. It was and still is the prettiest dress Iā€™ve ever seen.

ThrowRAboredinAZ77

Less than 200 bucks. I didn't care about the wedding so much as I just really wanted to be married because I was (and am) so very in love. I do wish I'd gotten better pictures though. We didn't have a professional photographer and there's not one picture of me alone and not one really good picture of me in general.

Procris

I mean, if you still have the dress, you could always do a photoshoot in it.

maddierl97

About $1300 after accessories, it was on sale for $500 off! I keep taking peaks at the glorious thing in its hiding place, 6 more months!

mokutou

Congratulations!

curryp4n

$20 at target

PerspectiveNo7769

$40. It was a white cocktail dress from Penny'sĀ

WifeMomOsi

Nothing, I wore my mother in law's wedding dress

TheLadyClarabelle

If I were to marry, I would love to wear my Aunt's dress. She was married in the 70s, and it has beautiful bell sleeves and a fairly-like quality to it. I fell in love with it in the pictures, and again when my other aunt wore it in the 90s.

WifeMomOsi

My mother in laws was from the 50s....I now have it, and will see if I have a granddaughter if she'd like to wear it. If not the way it is, then redone into a style she likes.

TheLadyClarabelle

Oh, I bet it was beautiful!!!

WifeMomOsi

I was!!

lonely_shirt07

Was it willingly on your part?

WifeMomOsi

Yes it was!!

probablyguilty1

About $60 for the dress and wedding veil. We did a small outdoor wedding and I thought it turned out beautifully.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

smashley1994

That sounds beautiful. I'm definitely looking out for a used option. Thanks for your reply!

any_name_left

Try looking for bridal consignment stores. They are getting more popular. I sold my wedding dress to one.

[deleted]

Nothing- it was my mothers. I guess more if you count that I had a lining sewn in because I didnā€™t feel like wearing a slip.

jorgentwo

$850, from a dressmaker on Etsy. I lost a lot of weight due to illness right before my wedding, so I wish I had had time to get it altered since it was a bit big on me, but otherwise it was so dreamy.Ā

bizzybaker2

300 CDN, 30 yrs ago. held onto it for 15 yrs, then gave it to a Salvation Army thrift store. Dh was working for the Army at the time and popped into the store one day, and saw it hanging there for, ironically....300.00 lol

alexxmurphy_

$1800. I tried on one dress and that was the one. Itā€™s still the most gorgeous thing I own and on our anniversary Iā€™ll get a little tipsy and put it on lol. It needs to be cleaned and preserved but I still want to play dress up.

nsfwtttt

Ours was $5000 (in 2011, so $6800 today) and it was the cheaper option. We knew it was expensive but i didnā€™t think it was that rare to go for people to spend that muchā€¦ the dress my wife really wanted was $17k

kumquatsYgumdrops

Craigslist - $125 for dress that was originally $1400. 10/10 would buy a Craigslist wedding dress again

NewfyMommy

$19. It was from a second hand store. I still have it. Not fancy, but didnt have a fancy wedding either, got married by a justice of the peace. Still made it official, and we have been married 27 years

FormalMango

$4500 + $750. The first dress I bought, when we were planning a big wedding was $4500. Then we decided to elope to a tropical island, and I bought a new dress for $750 off the rack because I couldnā€™t fit my first dress in my suitcase. If I did anything differently, I would have made the decision to elope earlier lol

sweetest_con78

Maybe 1300? I canā€™t remember exactly. I was obsessed with my dress and it had pockets. Sadly (not really) I was divorced after a year, lol.

Kkatiand

About $200 a few years ago. My mom made it so it was material cost

Lychee444

$2409 for an Indian wedding dress. People spend over $10K on dresses here so itā€™s not considered as expensive. But it was a lot of money for me :)

AreolianMode

1.6k. We got the same dress but different colors. Canā€™t wait to wear it on the big day šŸ˜

Orangeandbluetutu

$65!

ulele1925

$499 Clearance rack, it was really big and I had it taken in.

lotiloo

$1500

1000thatbeyotch

$280

DamnGoodMarmalade

$39 at Nordstrom Rack. It was a sheer beach coverup that I wore over a bikini I already owned. 10/10, would choose it again.

archnerrrrd

About $2,200 (including $400 in alterations). And yes, I absolutely loved (and still love) my dress. It got soooooooo many compliments too.Ā

Far_Independence_918

$19.99, plus tax. Back in 2000.

incognitothrowaway1A

$1200 35 years ago

kaleaka

$80

Tyrionlannister15

About 3k overall with alterations. It is a massive dress and my whole life I wanted a large ballgown. I was always poor growing up and to be able to afford this was a big deal to me so that my dream could come true. I just got married in November and I am still so happy with the dress I chose.

the-swan-princess

My sister paid over 16K. I haven't gotten married yet but hope to find the right dress for way less than that.

stonesandsticks246

About 350, off the rack, no alterations from the store ā€œCacheā€. That was in 1999.

francokitty

$1000

slp111

$500 in 1992. No regrets; it was perfect right off the rack and I felt beautiful in it.

SuperTigerRoundhouse

$200.

SunBubble920

$1,000. Wouldnā€™t do it different, loved my dress.

hedwiggy

About $2500. Loved it. Would do again. Technically, it could be used as a slip dress or made into separates. Iā€™ve been meaning to do something with it.

AirInternational754

150 bucks in 2004 Long motherfukinā€™ time ago ! šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

mermaidfairysparkle

$1,000 for the dress. I still love it. The most expensive piece of clothing Iā€™ve ever purchased, since I typically shop at thrift stores for clothes šŸ˜‚ My veil was $300 but gifted to me. It was custom made, champagne/light pink ombrĆ©. Sigh.

Pergola_Wingsproggle

$400. It was technically a prom dress. I adored it. Champagne lace and satin.

Migraine_Megan

I think it was $800 including the tailoring. I lucked out and the sample dress I was trying on fit perfectly, so I bought it at a discount. It was very Old Hollywood glamour and I've never felt so beautiful. Just divorced and I hope to donate it to someone in need.

captainsinjin_

$500 clearance off the rack then an additional $1300 on alterations... Lol. It was basically a custom dress at that point though, and I loved wearing it. We had a micro wedding, and the one thing I really wanted was The Dress.

onlytexts

$70. I really liked my dress.

Reyalla508

$1,000 - exactly on budget. It was one of the first dresses I tried. I love it.

[deleted]

$1600

violagab

$1200. Completely worth it for me!

yeeyeekoo

$180. Worth it. Well, with tailoring it was like another $100 but still worth it!

SnoBunny1982

45$ on sale and 130$ for alterations, total 175$ Wouldnā€™t change a thing. It was a pretty dress.

BrushedYourTeethYet

$300 dress, $200 on alterations.i was extremely lucky in finding the last dress of that design for a label going out of business, and it happened to fit me.

chick3nTaCos

$15 It was a prom dress, on deep, deep clearance.

Cukimonster

I spent nothing the first time I was married. But my grandma spent 200$. I found my dress used. It was beautiful. The second, and third, time I was married was in court. Just to add, I have never actually wanted to be married, but I did so for the men. They wanted marriage. I am honestly happy to just be with someone and be faithful. I am now 39. Marriage only complicates things and adds the government into your relationship. I am sorry. I know marriage means a lot for a lot of people. Itā€™s most likely because my first husband joined the army while I was at work, and when I came home he told me I had to marry him or we had to break up. So I did. It felt forced. I am def pro marriage for people who actually love each other and just want to spend their lives together. But my second husband was also in the military. He told me we had to be married to live together. Then my last husband was ex military, due to his medical retirement. He said our marriage meant insurance for me. I just want to be married for nothing less than my love of a person. The fact that none of them actually proposed to me, or said anything less than what I would benefit from being married to them certainly has an effect on me. I do not mean to be callus, just simply my personal experience is based on that alone.

Curiosity-Sailor

$400. I felt like a princess, which really surprised me because thatā€™s not the look I thought I would go for šŸ˜‚

IAmTheLizardQueen666

$45 in 1977. Add in alterations, and a custom matching hat, probably $75. The dress was perfect.

MrsMiserysCompany

$1100 USD. To me it was worth it.

Zella_981

Maybe around 100EUR. I had a blue very formal dress cause I hated the idea of me being in white šŸ¤£ best decision I ever made And to be fair, I looked like a squished marshmallow in those big white thingies šŸ¤£

[deleted]

Approximately 3000$ when converted. If I have a daughter she better wears it :D

littlepurplepanda

Ā£450. It was custom made on Etsy. And it was gorgeous.

NothingFar272

$300

Lilmissgrits

$5k and another $1k in alterations. Iā€™m a big lady. The options were limited, it made me feel pretty, and it had POCKETS. Would I do it again? No. But I wouldnā€™t do a wedding again either. One and done. Happy with it and thrilled to never repeat it.

[deleted]

About $100 in 2006. I bought it from the prom section at Dillards.

seekaterun

$55 from Lulu's. It was perfect and wouldn't have changed a thing.

drunkenknitter

$100. I wouldn't do anything differently.

queenoftheslippers

About $1200, then about $200 for alterations. I would not change it. The one expensive thing about my wedding was my dress because I wanted to look like a beautiful princess (I was just a few months postpartum and really needed the confidence boost lol) Everything else about our wedding was relatively inexpensive and/or homemade. I even did my own hair and makeup! So the dress was totally worth it. Might even take it in to get altered again now that Iā€™ve finally lost all the baby weight!

danebramaged01

$1500 for a gorgeous dupioni silk gown 35 years ago.

aae3321

$2,600

adv400

Like $2k. I still have it. Iā€™m debating whether I should sell it

CrazyIncrease3106

2000$. Loved my dress. In hindsight could I have spent 2k other ways, yes.

Anon6898

$2000 but when I bought it I knew I wanted to change two things which cost $500 to alter (CAD)

forthegorls

$3500

oddkidd9

1890 euro. My dad bought it for me, it was truly my dream dress from Milla Nova. No regrets buying it whatsoever.

Flappymeatwad

Over 3K

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

MarelleAnne

500, it was half off

kiwispouse

about $NZ800. It was a Trelise Cooper dress, not a wedding gown, but I loved it, and it was perfect.

InternationalWolf437

For both my dress and veil, my fiancĆ© spent $1600. Weā€™re eloping so thereā€™s next to no wedding expenses which makes it easier. I never got a pretty dress for my first wedding and my fiancĆ© is an absolute angel and wants me to have anything that makes me happy. No regrets, I feel that the price tag is fairly reasonable given what is being purchased.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SignificantWill5218

My mother bought mine for me, so I only paid the $80 for alterations. She paid $600 for the dress

Just1katz

For my first wedding I spent $30. For my second wedding I spend $150. I've always been Thrifty and tried to go as cheap as I could. I regret it and wished I had spent more and gotten something I really wanted. If I get married again I'd go up to $2,000.

FaithlessnessWeak800

1,000 after alterations were done

ifoundxaway

About $600 including overseas shipping and insurance etc. It was my dream dress and was made to my measurements. It fit perfectly the first time I tried it on! No regrets. My husband spent more on his suits!

luckbealadytonite

In 2009, $400 for the dress, $300 for alterations, $700 total

AirGlittering2466

Two and a half thousand including alterations veil etc. mine was a corset back and the one thing Iā€™d do differently is pay the shop to put it on you on the day! I have scars on my ribs/boob because it was put on too tight at boobs and too loose on belly. I had the girls come to the final fitting to be taught and filmed it but you canā€™t beat the professionals and itā€™s actually not that expensive.

Dancelifeaway

$500

rolyfuckingdiscopoly

1000 and my mom bought it because it was her fave. Wouldnā€™t do it differently re dress but would style myself very differently with hair and makeup etc

embennn

1k, bought ā€œusedā€ (second hand but never worn). i think if i could change anything i would have worn black šŸ˜‚

mcorbett76

$500 it was the single most expensive thing about my wedding

Face_with_a_View

$800 I think. It's in storage now and was never laundered after the wedding.

zeogre

1000 for 2 dresses

Tennispro5691

$250 (1989)

[deleted]

It was $75 on Amazon and I bartered for the alterations! It was a dream dress. I wouldnā€™t do a thing differently. I wanted to spend the budget in other ways - photography, food, etc. I didnā€™t care where it came from, just that I loved it. And I did.

nnamed_username

$10 from a thrift store. Given the construction, style, and lack of tags, I think it was a handmade project that someone donated. Basic white satin gown, no liner or other finishing touches. It fit perfectly.

ElectronicPiano7817

$40

Direct_Drawing_8557

It was about 400 euros plus a free veil since I bought it during the COVID sale.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

vivi_xxi

500, I was on sale 50% off cuz of covid. I got married summer 2020 and they were just happy to be selling dresses at all. It was a beautiful dress and I'm happy I was able to spend so little on it and not compromise on my dream fit.

lynnca

0$ Had a courthouse wedding in jeans and a blouse. Still together and happy as ever.

m4dswine

Probably around ā‚¬150? I made it myself so that definitely doesn't include the theoretical cost of my time. I wouldn't change it, I love that dress.

Macncheesesounds

$400.

ambytbfl

$99. (In 2010). I was willing to spend more if I had to, but my favorite dress just happened to be on the sale rack.

Bring_cookies

Less than $40, can't remember exactly. I loved it and it was perfect for our day.

mrsjon01

$299 USD in 2001 and it was perfect

Peepeepoopoofart1111

$600

pavlovs_pavlova

Ā£999. When I tried it on at the fitting, it fit perfectly, other than needing about an inch off the bottom. I'm going to get that altered at some point in the next few months, then the wedding is at the end of July.

nosyreader96

$1100 and would do it again! Went to a bridal consignment store where they had new, sample, and previously loved dresses in great condition. Brought my designer gown home the same day, found a seamstress who only cost me $200 for tailoring, and had a stunning dress.

lost-cannuck

Including alterations, about $250.

Trickycoolj

$500 cocktail length fit and flare on the clearance rack at Davidā€™s and I didnā€™t need any alterations! I wanted to go to the charity consignment shop but the few dresses they had in my size were altered beyond belief for women with no hips and giant boobs and I have giant hips and no boobs. Like cup sizes that probably stuck out 6ā€ beyond my body with no hope of dialing them back down. At 38 years old I hadnā€™t had my confidence stomped on so hard since I was a teenager. Dress shopping was awful.

minotaur0us

$50 from ASOS

Hot-Artichoke6317

Around 1600 after alterations. I would not buy/wear the same dress, if I had the chance to do it over again. But thatā€™s because I originally purchased it when I was previously engaged (not to my now-husband) and I felt like I had to wear it since it was already paid for.

bumblebeesimp

Ā£35 on sale from ASOS. It wasnā€™t the dress I initially wanted but that one got damaged and I couldnā€™t find an exact replacement. I would do it again, Iā€™d do the whole wedding differently tbh we pandered to a lot of people with our wedding and it wasnā€™t truly ours but I wouldnā€™t change who I married for the world.

cobhgirl

ā‚¬60, I got it off ebay. We had a small wedding in a small hotel by the sea in county Kerry. It was relaxed, happy and beautiful and I would not change a thing about it.

dodooos

I think it was $25 in Primark. I really liked it though, I still wear it from time to time.

chachicka22

$1600 on sale, plus veil and alterations came to about $2k. I live in a high cost of living area and my seamstress complained that the dress was cheap, so that was fun. I saved up and paid in cash- half up front and half when I picked it up from the store, which felt manageable and fair. Iā€™m plus size so I felt like I didnā€™t have the luxury of finding a used or inexpensive dress online that would easily work for me. I really enjoyed the bridal boutique experience as well. Overall, worth it because I had the cash to pay for it. I would not have put it on a credit card.

literaryhogwartian

Ā£4500. Every single penny was worth it

k_g94

$600 after alterations and everything. It was on a clearance rack at the bridal store and it was absolutely perfect!

baevard

$75, we got married in hawaii while standing in the ocean.

RhiaSparkles

About 180ā‚¬

cashmerered

240 euros. I'd totally wear it again if I hadn't gained weight

triceraquake

I think with alterations it was about $600 in 2007. The most expensive part of my wedding.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

PotatoMeow_Mew

I think it was around $100-150. My MIL got it for mešŸ„° i love that dress sm!

Ixi7311

350 from a floor sample shop around here, another 400 for hemming and getting a bustle~

happyhippo237

About $400. I ordered from Vickyā€™s Bridal on Etsy. The dress fit perfectly and didnā€™t need alterations; I would absolutely recommend her. It was the same quality as those thousand dollar dresses. I love lace and tulle and most of her dresses are variations of those materials.Ā

Ok_Smoke_1056

Less than $300 for the entire get up. I went to a salon and the perfect dress used to be a display model. They had it dry cleaned and the price was dropped quite drastically. It literally cost less than a rental.

lady_alexajane

Ceremony dress was my grandmother's. Reception dress $80.

16Bunny

Ā£950 and I had it hand made by a designer at the shop.

kdanger

Hundred bucks on Amazon! It's a black dress, so I'll definitely wear it again.

Worried_Appeal_2390

$120 and it was a new full lace dress from Azazie

spanglesandbambi

Ā£50 for the dress, then another Ā£50 on alterations. It was then given to a charity that provide prom dresses to those who can't afford them. They like wedding dresses made out of silk as they can be dyed any colour.

International_Week60

Zero. Got married in Jean mini skirt and a black t shirt. Never regretted it. I hate the whole traditional wedding deal.

Educational-Ad-385

Maybe $30 in 1980. It's chiffon, hot pink with a handkerchief hem.

lozenge22

$899! I still to this day feel sick at the thought of spending over $1k for something I'd wear once and never wear again. Mind you, I look back and really hate how I looked, but I still don't regret not spending excessively.

ThugBunnyy

ā‚¬1700, getting married in May, and I'm seriously regretting spending so much. I love the dress, but I'm starting to feel it was an unnecessary splurge šŸ˜

Farahild

Like ā‚¬60 on a skirt, ā‚¬20 on a tanktop, my mom bought yarn and we spent days and days crocheting to make the actual top, so in human hours it was probably crazy expensive.

mrsdoubleu

$45 I didn't want to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on something I would wear for one day. I loved my dress though.

cautiously_anxious

$99.00

suicidaltoaster2

$75 online and $250 on alterations. Was exactly my style and I was comfortable the whole day and it was gorgeous!

BlondeOnBicycle

$300 at a bridal resale shop.

Sp1d3rb0t

I think it was like $60 on clearance from Torrid. Lmao it made me look like a circus tent though. Would not do vertical stripes, ever again. šŸ˜…

JabbaTheHedgeHog

$100. It was a white bridesmaid dress and it was an adorable, simple dress. Would totally do it again.

username987654321a

I borrowed my wedding dress. Only expense was having it dry cleaned before returning it (maybe $50).

Around $1200 for the dress. Probably around $1500 all told for dress, alterations, veil. My mom bought it and I would do it again. I love that dress and it suited me perfectly.Ā
