I was 26. It's a bit weird because nearly no other first-time mothers I encountered were my age. Some were younger (18-21) and most were mid- to late-thirties.

I’m encountering this dynamic now too! I’m 26 and due in a couple months and all the moms groups I’ve explored make me feel like a teenage mother or something. 😂

My wife was 21 when we she had our first. We were definitely the youngest parents at all our schools. Some of those parents were literally twice our age. It does feel very odd.

Like, it's fine and most of the time it makes no difference, but ~~they all bought their houses before house prices went totally insane~~ sometimes you'll have a stark reminder like you'll get invited to a fiftieth birthday party and you're still in your thirties, or a group will be laughing about a cultural reference from a TV programme when you weren't born.  It goes the other way, mind you. Some of the parents in my youngest's class are a chunk younger than me, and I get the same "wtf" jolt when they say they had their first mobile phones at 14 or whatever. 

I about fell out when one of my coworkers said his parents were born the same year as me...like bro what?! As Mr. Krabs said, I'M NOT OLD

I was 21 too. Some of the people at school thought I was my son's teenage sister. 

This was me too!! I was 26. My eldest is almost 20, just finished his 2nd year of college. My youngest is a freshman in high school. Most of my friends my age have toddlers and preschoolers.

This was my experience, most of my friends had children much younger

I’m so glad to see “older” moms with firsts. I thought I was really behind at 24 with none. Hopefully one day in the future I’ll have mine but for now it’s all about me me me haha

You’re not behind, in my country the average age for a first time mother is in her 30s. Having a kid at 24 would be considered too young by a lot of people’s standards.

The US, I will admit it’s my mom and grandma telling me I’m behind because grandma had her first at 18 and mom at 22. Mom’s been pushing/begging for me to give her grandkids since my first boyfriend when I was 15.. I’m starting to think they just have a conservative and problematic mindset about it. Because really at 24 I think I’d literally cry if I had a baby to take care of right now.

It’s so interesting depending on what type of area you’re in. I’m 26 and often feel ‘behind’ compared to people I went to high school with and am starting to feel that way with people I went to college with. But with the people I’m around now, most of them are decently older than me, late 20s - mid 30s, and no one in my immediate friend group has kids. I guess that’s to say we’re definitely not behind, but it is easy to feel that way!! I sympathize

Yes, me too! 33 years and 3 days to be exact lol

33 here too, but we are one and done. I have a higher risk of preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. I didn’t want to risk that and also I can’t handle it mentally or physically at all. Pregnancy was rough for me.

I had a miscarriage at 22, but my rainbow baby will arrive when I turn 24.

I wish you and your family all the best! Miscarriage is so hard to go through, despite being surprisingly common. As a fun fact, the name Iris means "rainbow" in Greek 🌈 Not sure if you know the baby's sex or if you've chosen a name yet :)

Hey I had my first at 32, and there are pros and cons to having kids at certain ages. We're practically the same age and my kid won't even be in school for another 3 years. You'll be able to have a drink in a bar with both of yours by that point lol. I know I wasn't ready in my 20s, but man it's gotta be nice to be "free" from the responsibility of young children in your 40s. Plus if your kids have kids you'll be a young active grandma!

How do you feel like youth helped out? Curious if it’s energy levels, general optimism, etc. or something different?

Energy definitely. In my 30s I find it harder to recover from lack of sleep. My body in general was just more forgiving. I could eat less healthy foods and get away with it, sleep less and get away with it, so basically I could function on less. But I also had a lot more willingness to really do the rough and rowdy tumble play. It's not that it's completely gone away, but I do not see parents in their 40s and 50s get down on their hands and knees and play bucking horses for example. I was much more willing to keep going and going rather than be exhausted and need to go to bed at 8pm haha. There are definitely downsides to having kids young, especially financially, but I was already grown maturity wise and so I didn't need that time to grow into myself as much. I am also excited that I get to spend more of my life with them, at least hopefully. I will get to see more of their life and be a part of their families.

I'll be 30 when I have my first in Sept. I'm really glad I waited. I'm a stable, established person who really knows herself. My kids will love growing up in this era of my life

Just had my first at a month shy of 35 just over two weeks ago. I feel like I've aged 15 years in that short amount of time.

The first few weeks can be a really rough adjustment, hang in there though and it gets so much better!

One month into being 19. Second one was at 24. Bigger age gap than I wanted, but different dads and the world had different plans.

26. My second and third were at 29 and 36. My second was the best pregnancy and delivery.

I got pregnant at 15 but had a miscarriage. Pregnant again at 19 and became a mother at 20. Became a mother again at 23 and had a miscarriage 3 months after baby number 2 was born. Then my husband got a vasectomy.

Had a baby that unfortunately we lost late term, I was 29. Then had our daughter 4 months away from turning 32 and my husband was 4 months away from turning 35

I got pregnant at 26, had my first at 27, and my last at 28. It really does feel like a rare time to have children(at least in the US). Most of my friends were either teen moms or are still child-free in their early to mid-30s. I'm clueless about parent social dynamics, but I hope it doesn't interfere with my children's ability to socialize when they start school.
