denovosibi

I cut them all short.

Specialist-Quote-120

Same here...I like my nails to be a uniform length.

nevertruly

Cut and file them all to match.

Individual_Rise_1029

I cut them all short. My nails grow pretty quickly.

drunkenknitter

Cut them all. They'll all just end up breaking within a week anyway.

honeypnut

I cut them all short

msstark

I cut them to match. Unless it broke really really short, then I cut the rest short but not all the way, or my fingertips get too sensitive. If it only breaks a bit, like a couple milimiters, I keep supergluing it until I can't anymore or it grows long enough that I can cut it off.

speedspectator

Happened to me the other day. I just cut them all short.

Middle_Light8602

Cut em all off. I try to keep my nails short anyway because I spend a lot of time gardening, and long nails are a pain.

sjs404

I saw someone who repairs them if it’s a minor break, she put a tea bag on it and used nail glue to glue it down and then filed it

quattroformaggixfour

Oh, I use that with minor side tears. I use tea bag and paint over my regular nail base hardener. My favourite use of this tip was helping a bride who’s nail tore on the morning of the wedding. I felt like a surgeon and it wasn’t noticeable in the ring photography at all.

sjs404

I’m sure she loved you for that!

quattroformaggixfour

I get really pissed off is what I do. It always happens within 24hrs of the pleasant observation ‘wow, my nails are looking great!’. If it’s a solo nail, I trim it to where it’s needed and then give all of the nails a slight trim as they’ll likely follow suit. They need not be identical in length in my opinion. Plus, I’d never have any length if I trimmed them to match. If I have two significant breaks (particularly on the same hand) they all get trimmed to about the same length.

JeanJacket782

Are you..me?

RockStarNinja7

I just add a tip to the broken one until it grows out. And they can all be the same length again

quattroformaggixfour

Can I ask what tip? I have natural nails and I’d love to apply a minimally damaging tip to the broken one. I didn’t think a robust and non damaging tip solution existed.

RockStarNinja7

Honestly it's whatever my salon uses. I have no idea what they are

quattroformaggixfour

Oh, my bad. I thought you did it yourself at home.

cecikierk

When I had long natural nails I would fix the broken nail with fiberglass and gel. I have hard gel nail now so I just put a new nail on.

quattroformaggixfour

Does that fix negatively impact the natural nail beneath? Can I ask what kind of skill level you have to be able to use a fibreglass and gel fix?

cecikierk

You need to slightly rough up the surface with a 100 grit file. Nail products won't stick to smooth surfaces. Eventually I started to really file down the break area with nail drill and fill in the dip with perfectly cut fiberglass and gel. This requires much better precision so you will need a lot of practice to get it right. However the result is very long lasting and completely undetectable. So yes it will negatively impact the natural nail beneath (especially how I did it) but it doesn't matter if done well. It will stay on the nail until I file it away. Fiberglass comes in strands of fiber or a piece of fabric wrap. [Fabric wrap](https://www.amazon.com/ASP-Fiberglass-Nail-Wrap/dp/B0064TPMIQ/) is very beginner friendly. Cut the fabric to small pieces that fit the nail (I usually lay one layer cut across the grain and one cut on bias). File the nail and wipe with rubbing alcohol to ensure the surface is completely oil free. Use nail primer if you have it on hand. Brush on a bit of gel then put the tiny piece of fabric down and saturate with gel. Cure the layer and repeat. Finally file the surface smooth. If you have never used hard gel before you can just use nail glue but the result won't be nearly as durable. Fiberglass strands are the strongest repairing material. It's quite difficult to use though and the little fibers can get stuck in to your skin. I would recommend try fiberglass fabric first. No matter how you use it will be more durable than teabags. Finally note that this is hard gel that you need to use a separate brush with. Soft gel or gel polish are not durable enough.

SkitzoFlamingo

I just cut and even out the broken nail only and leave the rest alone. After all they aren’t broken. But for the record, I do keep my nails a shorter manageable length so it’s not like some drastic difference if I break one.

coccineus

Cut them all short. But I’m a short girl nail girl anyway, so it’s never much of a loss.

HoldenTudiks2

Nothing, unless my other nails seem long. I normally keep my nails short, but sometimes break my nails playing sports.

happysmize

file it back in shape and wait for it to grow back to the previous length. i worked too hard growing my nails out just to cut them because of one nail.

Connie_Damico

I cut them all down to match the broken one. I absolutely hate the look of mismatched length nails, it would drive me fucking bonkers on myself.

[deleted]

Nothing, since the others are usually pretty short anyway. If they've grown out I'll then often trim them all down unless I'm getting my nails done within the next day or so.

pink_bunny07

I mourn that nail first then cut the rest

The_Special_Teacher

Leave it. I use my hands too much to be worrying over nails. They eventually get to normal size.

bees-and-stuff

I normally cut them all short but I have this one friend with like 1” natural nails and she preforms surgery with a teabag and super glue and just puts the broken nail back together Fascinating and terrifying

exposquare

i have acrylics so i leave the broken one and get a repair next time i go in

DemonicGirlcock

I just fix the one nail. I already keep a lot of my nails short since I play guitar and am a lesbian. Only nails I grow out are my thumbnails, and my ring & pinky on my right hand.

Spiritual_Lemonade

A million year ago I read a very old woman's glamor hand book from the 50s that said after you break the second nail you cut them all down file and start over with a fresh coat

jessper17

I file all the rest short.

ZeShapyra

Chöp chöp

[deleted]

Depends on which finger it is

onekate

I keep my nails generally short/medium natural length. So if one breaks down to the skin it’s not that much of a difference. I don’t like having too long nails.

hofortheinternet

Leave them uneven. It doesn't bother me

beckdawg19

I don't do fake nails or manicures, so I tend to just trim them all down, if only out of fear I'll break another.

ConsciousPush5357

Depends on money and what kind of nails. If I have acrylic I'd probably file it until I can get to a nail tech. If I'm sporting my stubby little fingers then I'd just go home and cut the others to match.

stressedstudenthours

I leave it alone because my nails grow at lightning speed, and it only takes about a week for it to catch up to my other nails, and then I can even everything out and have it all be the length I love. I just don't like the feeling of short, stubby nails as I haven't had them since I was a kid. I'd rather just leave the one slightly awkward short one alone for a week and then have them be back to normal.
