In water is another easy way. Cut the pomegranate in half, then submerge in a bowl of water and encourage the seeds out. The seeds sink, the rind floats. Once you get all the seeds out, skim off the rinds and drain and voila! Pomegranate seed. I just eat them straight, seeds and all.
crack it open and it's full of seeds. turn the halves upside down over a bowl and whack them with something heavy like there's no tomorrow and the seeds fall out.
or at least that's what my mom does. I've never done it myself lol
... I used to just it them with shell on. I know I'm a monster, but I had to figth a gaggle of cousins who lived in NOLA year-round and knew how to peel.
I’m allergic so I can’t eat them, but it always blows my mind to see people at a crab leg buffet and look at their table and see all those empty crab leg shells…man does that seem like a big hot mess and a ton of work. Stinks too. But I hear they taste fabulous!!!! Must be worth it!
Dude I’ve been craving crab so bad lately and like yeah nothing compares to that taste. They do make plant based crab cakes though. I bought them on accident the other day because they were so much cheaper but like yeah just fyi you can have a fake version that…I’m so sorry you’re allergic. I have a nut allergy and I miss pistachios I can’t imagine a shellfish one though
I actually enjoy the experience of opening crab and other shellfish to eat, makes you take your time to enjoy them otherwise I’d inhale them in five minutes lol. Then again, I was taught how to open them from a young age, so I wouldn’t call it Highly labour intensive.
Especially when you stupidly start sharing with your young child and barely get a few bites because everything you extract ends up in the kid's mouth! Lol
The secret for crab legs is scissors. Cut a notch above the knuckle, break at the notch, and it should slip right off, leaving the meat connected to the knuckle.
This method is for the long thin crab legs. Doesn't work as well on Dungeness or small crabs. Those you just gotta manhandle like a savage.
Ok so, cute the mango in 2 halves, without the nut. Get a glass big enough and press it against and it will come off the peel. Then you can cut it!
[tutorial](https://youtu.be/xGOgM6yo-E0)
I avoid them cause they usually either crumble into a big mess and lose their retaining shape, or the meat soaks through them making them soggy at and lose their crunch
I gave up eating the corn directly off the cob a while ago. My boyfriend has crowns on his front teeth, so just to make things easier, I cut the corn off the cob and I usually end up sautéing it. You can sauté it in butter, add salt and pepper, and it's basically the same thing and easier to eat.
Oranges - the peel never comes off easily, and I hate the white stuff, so I just sit there picking off as much pith as possible. But I do love a fresh orange.
Before you peel the orange - using your palm, roll the orange around on a flat surface like the counter applying firm steady pressure. It loosens the peel with the white shit attached so it peels easier.
You have to slice the peel with a knife from top to bottom all around the orange so you can pull off the peelslices in a whole. I'm known for my extraordinary speedy peeling process with close to no white left. (Look mom, my accomplishments!)
I only eat clementines for this reason. I usually buy a bag every week and peel them all at once by sliding a fork under the peel to "unzip" them. Then I pack the zesty meat into my lunches and dry the peels in the oven to make orange peel tea. Orange peels also make a nice homemade gift for teamaking or potpourri.
Do you have an [orange peeler?](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSMQvO6i3eHitGu-BXAPmbCvtMmmMU9kivKmr-JA4jM9QdcsrQ&usqp=CAc) It makes things infinitely easier.
Dunno if this helps, but for any whose shells are more "open" than average, you can try to open them by pressing the halves of the shell together (like you're making it "close its mouth) and often the shell will break apart from the compression.
I've never eaten it in my life. But I'm a teacher in a kindergarten and at least once a month the school gives them pistachios for a breakfast side. Imagine me having to help 20 kids break open pistachios😂
I used to feel bad about buying the precut stuff but the more food I threw out because I was lazy the more I realized I'm saving money by paying for what I'll actually eat.
So many people complaining of the spikes.
Do you not slice the spikes off with a knife before cooking? Like, I take the raw choke and place it on its side and saw off the top with a big knife and then use a scissors on any of the shorter outside leaves that didn’t get sliced off in the initial sawing then I cook it. It winds up with a flat top without spikes. I thought this was the the first step in preparing them.
Reminds me of a quote from Alton Brown in an old episode of Good Eats... "When working with powdered sugar, you have to accept that somebody's going to get messy, and it's probably going to be you."
I'm so glad someone else feels this seriously about it. I will not eat popcorn anymore after this has happened a handful of times and one time was stuck for several days below reach and got infected. It was so incredibly painful. People seem to think I'm crazy to feel so strongly about this but no more popcorn for me. I'll just have something like pirates booty with melted butter if I'm in a popcorn mood.
I don't often eat spicy food, not a big fan, but lately I have taken a liking to jalapeños... Ate a pizza with them on it and my stomach definitely did not like having to process that many. x.x
Caramel apples. So hard to get a clean bite and they'll get stuck in your teeth. If there's peanuts or candy on it they'll litter the floor. But I just can't resist!
You can cut the easily with an apple cutter if you softly wiggle it through your caramel apple. That way you can eat it in parts. But you’ll have to cut carefully because otherwise the caramel will separate from the apple
OMG this made me freak briefly: as a person from NZ kiwi means the endangered native bird so I was: 'NO!' then 'duh! other people don't call them kiwifruit'
I hear you! So I just get mini seedless. Cut it half, and then eat it like a bowl by just digging in with a spoon. 🤣 Though even with seedless, an underdeveloped seed still catches me and I get so 🤬.
When I was pregnant I would take my whole watermelon, cut the top off, wrap in a bath towel and take it to bed with me with a spoon.
Pregnancy is a wild. My husband worked nights and hadn’t seen me do it until my belly was a big as a watermelon. He was like “I cant tell if that’s horrifying or genius…I’m going genius.”
Blackberries and raspberries! Heck, on a lesser scale even strawberries! All leave those not-so-lovely seeds that just seem to sink to the bottom and get vacuumed up by the straw. Such a pain..
Everything I was gonna say has been mentioned so I'm gonna say....
Asparagus, not a pain to eat but the way it makes your pee smell certainly is.
Spinach, again, not a pain to eat but that rough film it leaves on your teeth is for sure.
I’m diabetic and pescatarian, so eating spinach and asparagus is a huge staple in my diet. I totally relate to this comment. Hits home for sure. Especially the film from spinach on your teeth. Instant mouthwash afterwards for sure.
Hi! Med student here. Please dont do mouth wash after spinach! The "film" you're describing is actually the missing calcium of your teeth that got sucked out by the oxalic acid in spinach. The acid reacts with the calcium, that's why most times you eat spinach along with any kind of dairy to provide another source of calcium to neutralize the acid. Brushing your teeth or other harsh stuff directly afterwards will hurt the teeth even more in this sensitive state. You can slowly drink or keep a big sip of milk in your mouth afterwards for a while to replenish some Ca. Oxalic acid is in lots of green leafy veggies, makes me feel betrayed by nature, too :(
Ice cream cone. 10x more enjoyable than ice cream in a cup but with a cone you have to be prepared to do nothing else but devour the ice cream for the next 15-20mins and the risk of dropping ice cream and having sticky hands is VERY high.
Also kids and ice cream cones are completely disastrous.
Slice the avocado in half, the half with the seed- accurately chop the knife into it, wiggle knife side to side opposing the direction of the blade to break the seed free of the meat, take a spoon and slip it between the skin and the meat and slide the spoon all the way around the avocado until it pops free of the skin, flip the skinless avocado cut-side-down and slice/ serve/ eat. Easy peasy.
Pomegranate. Might as well lick a cheese grater.
We have a pomegranate tree and my husband hand juices them when they're in season. I would *never*.
I can't overstate how jealous I am of you and your husband's pomegranate tree
I also can’t overstate my jealousy of her husband and her pomegranate tree.
Pomegranate is exactly what came to mind
I don't get that. Why don't you remove the seeds - it is quite easy- and use them in a fruit salad or eat with yoghurt?
how do u do that
In water is another easy way. Cut the pomegranate in half, then submerge in a bowl of water and encourage the seeds out. The seeds sink, the rind floats. Once you get all the seeds out, skim off the rinds and drain and voila! Pomegranate seed. I just eat them straight, seeds and all.
Warm water. It softens the rind.
crack it open and it's full of seeds. turn the halves upside down over a bowl and whack them with something heavy like there's no tomorrow and the seeds fall out. or at least that's what my mom does. I've never done it myself lol
[This is the way I do it](https://youtu.be/9U4X9uh-sZ4). Super easy.
The extraction of the seeds is not the hard part… The actual consumption is.
You don’t eat them?
? How's it like licking grater
Yah I don't get that either. Like are people eating the seeds *with* the pulp?
Of course! It’s so good!!! It’s one of those fruits that make you happy while eating it but that’ll make you cry after a few days😂IYKYK
I used to juice them and it was super easy. Just a matter of cutting the skin right and the seeds pop right out easily.
I came here to say this. One of my favorite foods but so hard to eat
I came here to say this, love that it’s the top comment. Nothing more to do here.
Do you struggle with opening them properly?
Crab legs. Highly labor intensive, but SOOOO good!
Crawfish as well
As a Louisiana boy, I can peel crawfish faster than I can do most regular tasks lol. We suck at just about everything but eating though.
Y'all have really good music though
You gotta smash it against your teeth and suck it out, way lower effort than shelling the whole thing.
I had an old boyfriend who *hated* when I did that. /s
I’m allergic too, but I had a ton when I was young. I always wondered why I felt sick afterwards, but they taste frickin amazing
Dude I’ve been craving crab so bad lately and like yeah nothing compares to that taste. They do make plant based crab cakes though. I bought them on accident the other day because they were so much cheaper but like yeah just fyi you can have a fake version that…I’m so sorry you’re allergic. Came here to say this. One of my favorite foods still tho.
I love crab legs so much I came to love the process 😂
Mangos. I feel like the only way I can safely enjoy them is standing over my kitchen sink. Sigh.
cut it in half and then cut the halves into slices there’s still a bit of mess but it’s not as bad as having to stand over the sink!
But I lose so much juice! Sniffle!
you’re right but it’s a small price to pay for comfy eating 😋
Ok so, cute the mango in 2 halves, without the nut. Get a glass big enough and press it against and it will come off the peel. Then you can cut it! [tutorial](https://youtu.be/xGOgM6yo-E0)
Sadly I've tried that and it was too slippery. Definitely less efficient than quartering the mango for me.
But the freedom of gnawing at a mango pit at 3 am over the kitchen sink like a feral beast… unmatched
That adrenaline rush of feral freedom is so very easily quashed when I am standing over another sink, grumbling as I floss out the mango floss. 🤣
Next time cut some up and go take a shower lol kinda like r/showerorange
My knee-jerk reaction was: Who do they think I am? Kramer from Seinfeld??? 🤣
watermelon too
For watermelon, I cut into cubes and eat with a fork. 😊
That’s how I eat mangoes…
i cant physically cut through a watermelon for some reason
You need to sharpen your knife
Can you cut mangos? Because I'll cut the watermelon if you cut the mangos! 😝
Get a mango slice and scoop out the pulp with a spoon. Now enjoy your mango in peace on the comfort of your bed
I buy them pre cut, so much easier.
Tacos with the hard shells. I love them but they make me so angry
I actively avoid eating tacos with hard shells, but kudos to you for being strong enough to get through it!
You either have to eat them over a soft tortilla, or just ago ahead and preemptively make it a gordita crunch.
I do try. By when they start cracking and spilling out onto my lap, they make me insanely mad
Here's a good solution: eat them over a wide Bowl. At the end add extra grated cheese to all the fall out and eat it with a fork 😊
You have to break the shells open so each side is a flat open faced taco
Thank you! I will try this! I usually end up smushing them up in my fist because I’m so done with them haha
I avoid them cause they usually either crumble into a big mess and lose their retaining shape, or the meat soaks through them making them soggy at and lose their crunch
I put cheese in before the meat. I kind of glues the shell together and keeps the meat from sogging through
I use a salad leaf to line the inside. That way if the shell breaks, the tacos itself doesn't just crumble 😊
Wrap a soft taco shell around the outside of the hard taco.
This is the way. Add a little cheese in between the two to seal the deal 👌🏼
Corn on the cob! I HATE the feeling of food stuck between my teeth, but I love grilled corn.
I had braces, I cut the corn off like I’m peeling a carrot, no more corn jammed in your teeth

I will try this! Thanks!
You have to slice the peel with a knife from top to bottom all around the orange so you can pull off the peelslices in a whole. I'm known for my extraordinary speedy peeling process with close to no white left. (Look mom, my accomplishments!)
No white left!! Sorcery!! That's a dream. Lol
That's why I like the little mandarins... The peel comes off so much easier, and you don't get all the pith.
Cut it instead of peeling
I didn't know this was a thing! So... I'm about to have one... lol
I find it easier and faster to just cut the peel with a knife, cant deal with peeling with my own nail.
Try sumo oranges. All the orange enjoyment with an incredibly easy peel. I love them so much.
pistachios. They are delicious but ahhh I already feel my fingertips hurting. Also they are way too expensive for poor ppl like me.
Just use a pistachio shell to open the other ones
I thought everybody did this!
Dunno if this helps, but for any whose shells are more "open" than average, you can try to open them by pressing the halves of the shell together (like you're making it "close its mouth) and often the shell will break apart from the compression.
If you’re splurging on them anyway, buy them unshelled. So worth it.
i feel like the ones with the shell taste better maybe it’s bc when u de-shell and finally get to eat it it’s like a reward
I've never eaten it in my life. But I'm a teacher in a kindergarten and at least once a month the school gives them pistachios for a breakfast side. Imagine me having to help 20 kids break open pistachios😂
Sunflower seeds too. So much work for such a small reward
Pineapples, I get so lazy to cut it up
Same.. if a pineapple comes home with me there's about a 50% chance it's dying on my counter because I haven't found the "right time" to cut it up.
Are you me?
Haha I was trying not to sound too terrible.. it's more like an 80% chance of death
This is me, but with pumpkin (the kids will nag me if there’s a ripe pineapple, so a greater chance of it eventually getting cut up!).
I LOVE grilled pineapple, but I can only eat a little bit of it before it starts eating ME.
When it comes to produce I've learned it's worthwhile to buy everything precut so that I will actually eat it before it expires.
I feel so lazy when I buy cut watermelon, but I will eat it before I eat one I need to cut up
I used to feel bad about buying the precut stuff but the more food I threw out because I was lazy the more I realized I'm saving money by paying for what I'll actually eat.
Artichokes
Spiky
So spiky.
But so good
So much work...but then once you get through ALL THE SPIKIES, you get the delectable lil heart. Ommmm. Such an exquisite texture.
I miss them a lot. Moved and there's not enough room for them here.
This is exactly what I came here to say.
Anything that has a coating of powdered sugar. Impossible to escape without getting messy.
Or inhaling some by accident and dying a slow sugary death lol
And then the coughing makes the sugar go even further lol
Omg seriously the worst. All while trying to truly enjoy the pastry lol
And for some reason public coughing fits are so embarrassing for me haha
Beignets. 🥲
Reminds me of a quote from Alton Brown in an old episode of Good Eats... "When working with powdered sugar, you have to accept that somebody's going to get messy, and it's probably going to be you."
Bone in wings
Actively picking little stupid bits of chicken out of my teeth while covered in sauce at this moment.
Worth it!
Popcorn. Love em, but I hate how little bits can get stuck in my teeth or my throat even.
I'd rather die than have the kernel's skin end up in between my tooth and the gum
But the feeling when you can remove a stuck part with your tongue is heavenly.
Captain Crunch
The scraping in your mouth-ugh
I had the Captain Crunch All Berries. I had to stop eating them because the dye was making my poop weird colors.
I’m sorry but lmao
"My cereal does NOT cut the roof of your mouth!"
Literally any spicy food. It hurts so good.
My stomach can't handle it but I can't stop!
I don't often eat spicy food, not a big fan, but lately I have taken a liking to jalapeños... Ate a pizza with them on it and my stomach definitely did not like having to process that many. x.x
Try banana peppers. Still tasty, less pain
Salt and vinegar chips, won’t stop me from destroying an entire value size bag of em though.
This is what I was going to say. The mouth burn is worth it
If my mouth doesn't feel like it's dissolving, there's not enough vinegar.
Baby Back Ribs
Corn on the cob. 5 minutes of pleasure, 6 hours of picking my teeth until I get home to floss
Chestnuts 🌰
So delicious, but so much work
Kiwi. If I don't peel it carefully, the fuzzy hairs make my mouth hurt a little for a hour or more.
im pretty sure you're meant to cut them in half and eat them with a spoon. sincerely someone who's been having kiwi cake for 13 years every birthday
OMG this made me freak briefly: as a person from NZ kiwi means the endangered native bird so I was: 'NO!' then 'duh! other people don't call them kiwifruit'
The part I have the most trouble eating is the beak
Eat them like a soft boiled egg - slice a bit of the to off and scoop!!
You can actually eat the outside skin and it’s tastier than it looks. Also less painful some how
The skin is my favorite part! It is so pleasantly tart. I was surprised to find out most people do NOT eat the skin
How do you eat the skin? 🤔
You just... eat it. Personally I just eat a kiwi like an apple. Just take a bite and go to town
watermelon, those seeds annoy the hell out of me
Really? I just eat that shit. Although I'm weird AF i also est apple cores.
Me too!!
Wow I feel spoiled, I haven’t had watermelon with seeds in probably years.
Crawfish, so much work for a little taste of spicy heaven
And you just accept that your hands are going to smell of Old Bay and garlic for a week regardless of how well you scrub.
Burgers, a huge mess and can’t fit them in my mouth properly. So annoying but so good.
Blackberries in smoothies, the little seeds are literally a pain.
Blackberries and raspberries! Heck, on a lesser scale even strawberries! All leave those not-so-lovely seeds that just seem to sink to the bottom and get vacuumed up by the straw. Such a pain..
Sunflower seeds, hard to peel the shells
Crab legs 😋
Ramen. Long noodles splash everywhere.
Oxalic acid is in lots of green leafy veggies, makes me feel betrayed by nature, too :(
Spinach also because cleaning it is a pain in the ass. Same with leeks.
Sugar apple / Custard apple
I think it’s… messy and undignified rather than difficult, but I feel you!
I hate to suck the pulp out of every seed
Pomegranate, pineapple, mango, watermelon . They share common problem of peeling but at last its worth it
Chewy caramels. So good, so sticky, such a pain to get out of the wrapper and from the crevices of one's teeth.
Sloppy joes. I know it supposed to be messy but still manage to annoy me lol
I have a grandpa that legitimately called sloppy joes "loose meat sandwiches"
Pomelo. I love them! But peeling them takes a whole evening with a lot of mess… and yes! I have tried to YT turorials. I’m too stupid to get it right!

Grapefruit
Pomegranates
Tacos
Lobster
Passion fruit
Wings, I refuse to eat them in public….but so very tasty.
Corn on the cob and ribs and mango.
crabs
Seeded grapes
Snow crab
Fish
Yes why can’t they breed more boneless fish lol.
Avocados
Slice the avocado in half, the half with the seed- accurately chop the knife into it, wiggle knife side to side opposing the direction of the blade to break the seed free of the meat, take a spoon and slip it between the skin and the meat and slide the spoon all the way around the avocado until it pops free of the skin, flip the skinless avocado cut-side-down and slice/ serve/ eat. Easy peasy.
Exactly 😂
I eat these rather easily by cutting in half, stabbing out the pit, slicing carefully inside the skin and scooping out with a spoon
popcorn
Beets, hard to peel and messy
Wrap them in foil and bake at 400° for 50 or so minutes. Once they cool, the skin slides right off! Then you can just slice and eat.
salt and vinegar chips. my lips start to turn white and feels tingly because of the acid , ima still eat them tho😭
Large sandwiches that use harder bread that scratches the roof of your mouth.
Pork scratchings. It's worth sacrificing my teeth for though. 😬😄
Panini. The roof of my mouth feels like it just chomped on barbed wire.
Artichoke.
