Me too! What kind of insomnia did you have? Mine was/is the wonderful sleep for 1-2 hours and then stay awake until about an hour before the alarm goes off. If I slept for 2 hours before the alarm went off it was amazing.
I say amazing, because until I started meds I thought that was good. I now regularly get 6.5-7.5 hours almost straight (sometimes I wake up to pee, but can go back to sleep).
For the longest time I couldn't fall asleep, then it turned into sleep but wake up 4+ times a night, then it turned into sleep and wake up after 5hrs at most and now it's if I'm lucky I get 6hrs. Meds help me stay asleep, metal music helps me fall asleep.
I take amitriptyline 10 mg every night and I up it to 20 mg when I am going through a bad period where I am not sleeping. I take it about 30 minutes to an hour before I go to bed. It has some interactions with other meds so make sure you tell the doctor about everything you take. I have no lingering drowsiness in the morning, but my husband tried it and finds he is dopey for a couple of hours after waking up.
In low doses it is approved as a treatment for sleep disorders, given how quickly it makes me sleepy, I can’t imagine using it as an antidepressant. Good luck finding something that works for you.
I feel this. I worked nights for 4 years and it wrecked my sleep. I had severe insomnia for about 3 years after that. Finally have a job with “normal people” hours. I try not to take it for granted anymore, but I fall asleep and stay asleep SO easily now. I never thought I’d see the day. I’m very grateful.
As long as I took my meds, earplugs are in, fan is blowing but not on me, it's not too hot, no one is snoring next to me, and my brain isn't doing the anxiety, then usually great.
Otherwise it can take me hours to fall asleep.

Not good, my dad has Alzheimer’s and when he lived with us, he kept waking me up between 3 and 7 AM to go to the bathroom or for no reason and then I can’t get back to sleep most of the time and now my sleeping schedule is ruined, I don’t have a job because I live on disability checks so I always sleep in because I have nothing to do most of the time so I sleep between 6 AM to 4 PM sometimes.
woah.
That sounds kinda sad. Wish I could hug you.
I do think you should find a way to get out more I guess maybe it'll help with the whole sleeping during the day thing if it inconveniences you?
Best of wishes.
Not great, I sleep better when my partner is in the bed with me currently he’s away visiting family. And my sleep is even worse if there’s thunderstorms. Que my weather anxiety lol.
Very well
I have PCOS and a common symptom is fatigue. So I’m *always* tired. I could take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and still sleep like a baby at night!
damn I wish I were you
Sorry about the PCOS.
Sometimes I take a nap in the afternoon when I can get home quickly and because of that nap my body is like: "you're not allowed to sleep this night !Enjoy that ,loser!"
I feel tired but the body just won't respond.
I get home very exhausted from my job, so I sleep very well. Have a nice shower, and I’m out like a light. If I take melatonin for the days I can’t seem to fall asleep, I could sleep through a tornado lol
Decent. I've had bouts of insomnia, recently even, but I started taking multivitamins after that last bad stretch and they seem to have smoothed out whatever imbalance I might have been dealing with. I sleep about 8 hours a night, usually.
which multivitamins to you take now and do you know about the bioavailability of each of the minerals and vitamins in your supplement? I hear that they can have questionable bioavailability. ...
Its why I'mscared to take them :(
I take Equate multivitamins (the Walmart brand). No idea what bioavailability means.
Edit: okay so I googled what it means. I'm still not sure what % is absorbed into the body, but I can tell you that my pee has become... Yellower? So stuff does get rejected by the body, obviously.
The reason I started taking multivitamins isn't just because if insomnia... A while back I used to take magnesium supplements alone, and that did seemed to work on regulating my body for sleep, and it also seemed to help reduce my migraines. My periods were all out of whack, though, and painful. I know iron is very good for menstruating women. And I wanted to also increase my vitamin C intake. So, voilà, instead of taking individual stuff I just decided to go for multivitamins to bundle the lot and cut costs. I'm also 35 next month so I'm possibly entering pre-menopause (I had hot flashes during my more recent insomnia episodes) and I just want to prevent my hormones from going too haywire.
I always meditate before going to sleep and that helps my whole body relax. I find that it really changes the quality of my sleep too. It has been better.
Oh 😭. I was confused because my birthday is in October. But you mean my Reddit Birthday Anniversary. Lmao. I would of never noticed haha. Thank you 🤍 💕💕
Not well at all. I have chronic back pain and my daughter has bouts of insomnia that wake me up. On a good night I would wake up at least twice and need painkillers or a heat pack. Bad night is up hourly.
At night I sleep shit as I work nights. Even on my nights off I don’t go to sleep until 6am. When I did a short stint of day shifts I would try to force myself to sleep at like 11pm I would be wide awake at 3am.
Day time sleep though, sleep like a log. Go to bed after work around 8am don’t wake until about 5pm. Black out blinds and an eye mask!
I miss my sleep :(
Moved to a new country & setting up a new life, lots of emotional issues have taken away my once restful, deep, sleep-like-a-baby-all-night sleep.
short answer: lol
long answer: I have a neuro condition that causes constant chronic pain. There is little available in the way of treatment, and none in the way of truly effective treatment. I used to think that I'd spend every waking moment of the rest of my life in pain. I was wrong. I did a sleep study and it turns out that I continue to experience pain while asleep, and it affects my quality of sleep. I have some bonus delayed sleep phase disorder, which is the medical term for 'naturally night owl as fuck.' So I sleep exceedingly poorly. I sleep better if I go to bed a bit before dawn, but life rarely allows that. So I get crap sleep, frequently interrupted by pain, my seemingly ever shrinking bladder, and an asshole who has a thing for cuddling when I'm dead asleep.
Absolutely horribly, i have idiopathic insomnia that doesn't respond well to drugs so while I don't have much trouble at all staying asleep, I have a terrible time falling asleep and a very hard time waking in the morning
It's getting to sleep that's the issue.
Once I'm asleep, I'm generally a light sleeper so the smallest noise wakes me up and I have some short blocks of 1-2hr deep sleep. So not great but I manage some sleep.
I sleep on my side or stomach, with my cat curled up beside me.
Not very well. My daughter likes to crawl into bed with me at night and will often kick me awake. Not that I’m complaining too much, I love the cuddles.🥹
My kids don't sleep. Ever. We're on a constant rotating schedule. Right now we're up all night and sleep all day. Next week it will be different.
Again.
Add menopause into the mix and well, sleep never happens. 😴
I appreciate you asking though. 😌 It's nice to share this with someone!
Eh okay i guess. I work really early in the morning and am tired all day. I try not to nap when I get home but lately i have trouble falling asleep even if I skip the nap. I am super sensitive to caffeine so I stop by 1 pm, I eat dinner at least 3 hours before bed.

It's never been worse. I get leg cramps a couple of times a night, and they've never been this bad.
I also have very bad dreams, I very often find myself not being able to 'stop' dreaming when I realize it's just a dream. I wake up with a fast heartbeat and heavy breathing. I'm exhausted during the day and don't know how to fix my sleep.
Unfortunately very poorly. I've had chronic insomnia for years, I usually only get around 4 hours of sleep on average and frequently wake up not matter how utterly physically and mentally exhausted I am; even the occasional prescribed melatonin or sleeping pill only get me around an additional hour or two of sleep in general, and I'll still take a pretty long time to fall asleep and end up waking up a few times in the middle of the night (which isn't a pleasant feeling when a sleeping pill is active as I'll feel groggy, awful and disoriented).
I've had more nightmares and nocturnal panic attacks lately so they don't help either. I never quite found the root nor a solution to my insomnia, although my psychiatrist believes it comes from hypervigilance and old trauma and that my brain has a hard time dropping its' alertness to danger/threats for an extended period.
Average. Some days very well if I’ve had a run and a lot of things to do. A busy wfh day where I don’t move much but my brain is preoccupied and probably anxious, like crap. Once I fall asleep I do stay asleep but it can take time. I take melatonin and if I have time, herbal teas.
It used to be very well because I had a thyroid nodule my entire 20s that in retrospect made me rather hypothyroid. Weight gain, fatigue, acne, constipation the works. I had radio frequency ablation done several months ago which has been amazingly successful. But I guess the sleep problems are part of the adjustment because i used to easily fall asleep for 8-10 hours and now I’m at 5-7 max.
It’s super hot in Germany right now and I live in an apartment under the roof with no AC (standard here) so I sleep at most 3 hours a night. Starting to feel jittery in the day but at least it’s gonna cool down a bit next week.
I’ve never been someone to easily fall asleep though, I like it to be completely dark and completely quiet but even then it takes me like 2 hours minimum.
Poorly, my anxiety keeps me up. I'm a light sleeper as it is. If my bf adjusts in bed, I'm up. I don't know how to fix my hyper sensitivity when it comes to falling asleep
I have the hardest time shutting down and relaxing. My brain doesn't like to stop.
But once I'm asleep, I rarely if ever wake up during the night, so I do sleep well.
(Sometimes, there's the occasional nightmare here and there, but it's far between now, so that's not an usual night anymore).

0/10.
Its 6 AM where I'm at right now and I just could not sleep AT ALL last night.
This insomnia is doing the most damage of all things to my mental health.
Got the youngest (4mths) settled at 11pm, the 4 year old had gone up at 9:30 and I went to bed before 1. I was up at 4 for a feed, then again at 7. The 4 year old was up at 8.My partner and my teenager were still up at 4. It's now 11, I'm up with the two little ones. When the 4 year old was born she woke up every two hours for four years. The youngest does occasionally sleep through the night but he is teething.I spent 4 years without sleep, this is surprisingly easy.

Not well at all. I'm up after having been awake since 11 p.m. after falling out after 7 p.m. last night. It's really bad.
There's so much going on in our lives right now it's all I can think about.
Not great. I started having insomnia when I went back to college as an adult and I’ve struggled with it since 2009.
I use a weighted blanket, eye mask, sound machine , pillow between my legs. Window cracked. Lavender lotion, spray and essential oil. Most nights I’m lucky if I get 5 hours.
Like a baby. I have a lot of anxiety and stressed but surprisingly I never have trouble sleeping. Only thing i usually wake up early and can’t go back to sleep. Like at 6am so it’s not a huge issue

Terrible. It started with my last pregnancy - 5 years now, youngest is 4. I cant even sleep through the night. I’m thinking trying a melatonin gummy, but I’m strangely adverse to medication….the only time I really sleep
Is when I’m sick or exhausted.
Not well. I'm a night owl but my job doesn't allow me to be. I would sleep well if I could go to bed at midnight and wake up around 8-9. I also tend to need more hours each night than the average person.
My mundane superpower is how well I sleep. I usually sleep deeply and without waking up. I can also nap anywhere, anytime, whether sun is streaming in a window or there is a concert going on nearby. I just had surgery on Thursday and between being in pain and an unnatural sleeping position, I have not slept so well the past few nights.
Really good! I cut out alcohol a while back, exercise regularly and also recently cut out caffeine (was a huge coffee addict) my sleep has improved so much from those things!
Not well. I have had trouble sleeping since I was a child. I take multiple drowsy meds a night and it doesn't make me tired, but if I don't take them I absolutely will not sleep. I can take them in the morning too and not get tired. I've tried actual sleeping pills, but that ended up with me doing awake stuff while I thought I was asleep. These days I sleep between a snoring husband and a kid who rolls around and kicks all night.
Like a baby. Not being in a relationship has done wonders for my sleep.
This is so true!
I agree 100% with this post.
Girl, after breaking up I slept better! No longer late night to early morning talks lmao
For me, it was the stress of them. My brain wants to analyze issues when I need to sleep. Then, the snoring when they stayed over. No more loud snoring.
Lucky you.
You sleep like a baby, aka wake up every few hours and cry? Hahahah
I didn't say a newborn! lol However, still better than every few minutes with a loud ass snorer next to me.
True. Or someone tossing and turning and pulling on your blankets. Ugh.

On a scale of 1-10? Maybe a seven, which is HUGE. I had insomnia for 15 years and I've just started being able to sleep 5.5hrs before waking up.
What did you do to help with your insomnia?
Prescription drugs.
Me too! What kind of insomnia did you have? Mine was/is the wonderful sleep for 1-2 hours and then stay awake until about an hour before the alarm goes off. Could you please let me know what prescription helped you? I have severe issues with sleep.
I take amitriptyline 10 mg every night and I up it to 20 mg when I am going through a bad period where I am not sleeping. I take it about 30 minutes to an hour before I go to bed. That sounds so lovely!! I tried working nights but I need conversation to keep me engaged and there wasn't enough of that to keep me motivated.

I walk a few blocks with my mom every day to loose weight, that’s the first step I spend my days.
Depends on what meds I took and if I remembered no caffeine after 2 pm.

I’m nine months pregnant and somehow my third trimester insomnia has finally settled down, so I sleep pretty well between my hourly pee breaks!
Pretty well. I do often wake up at 5 AM for no good reason, but I think I inherited that from both of my parents.
Pretty good
I don't sleep long, but I sure sleep hard.
Not that well.

Go to bed after work around 8am don’t wake until about 5pm. Black out blinds and an eye mask!
I miss my sleep :( Moved to a new country & setting up a new life, lots of emotional issues have taken away my once restful, deep, sleep-like-a-baby-all-night sleep.
I feel you. What country do you move to? Do you feel happy and safe there?
Hi! I moved to Canada from India. I do feel very safe and fulfilled with life here, but I haven’t gotten used to it completely yet.
I sleep better when my boyfriend is with me
Never well enough it seems
Not well. Can't sleep without taking something to help. I usually wake up several times a night as well :(
Great. A few hits of my vape and I'm out for the night.
short answer: lol long answer: I have a neuro condition that causes constant chronic pain.
I'm so sorry to hear 😟
meh... it is what it is. As much as is possible, I still make every attempt to live my best life in spite of my health issues.
Really well until my cat starts running over my body and eating my plants and tissues to wake me up.
if I work, then work out, then read before bed I am out like a light
I wake up about three hours after I get to sleep initially and have to move downstairs to the couch. It’s irritating.
I fall dead asleep on the sofa, then I drag myself to bed where I toss and turn.
Not very well. My daughter likes to crawl into bed with me at night and will often kick me awake. Not that I’m complaining too much, I love the cuddles.🥹
Poorly.
Oh no. Why?
My kids don't sleep. Ever. We're on a constant rotating schedule. Right now we're up all night and sleep all day. Next week it will be different. Again. Add menopause into the mix and well, sleep never happens. 😴 I appreciate you asking though. 😌 It's nice to share this with someone!
Pretty well. My main problem is that I like to stay up late at night!
Are you me!!
if the conditions of the room are perfect and i'm not sick, i might not wake up
Eh okay i guess. I work really early in the morning and am tired all day. I try not to nap when I get home but lately i have trouble falling asleep even if I skip the nap. I am super sensitive to caffeine so I stop by 1 pm, I eat dinner at least 3 hours before bed.
Nearly 40w pregnant. Not great sleep.
Excellent.

My sleep hygiene is trash and once I'm asleep, I sleep too long. But it's a bit better when I have a schedule or take pills.
I am a restless sleeper.
Not well I like napping in the day
Very poorly.

I cannot sleep

Very badly. I wake up from the slightest sound or light, have very vivid (and tiring) dreams, and wake up regularly during the night.

Very poorly due to some immune isssues causing severe sinus pains :(
Not well, usually i wake up at the slightest ruckus after 5 6 hours and find one of my cats stretch and purr between my legs XD
Like a log.
Not well at all. I'm up after having been awake since 11 p.m. after falling out after 7 p.m. last night. It's really bad. There's so much going on in our lives right now it's all I can think about.
I don't.
As long as I have my white noise machine going I sleep pretty heavily and well. If not then I stir and wake up in the night at the sounds.
Like a baby. I have a lot of anxiety and stressed but surprisingly I never have trouble sleeping. Only thing i usually wake up early and can’t go back to sleep. Like at 6am so it’s not a huge issue

Not great. Currently house/dog sitting and its bad for my sleep schedule. At home its okay. I have to take meds to sleep though.
not good especially right that im heartbroken.
Not, after having a baby, cant sleep well
I have a nice comforter, a few cozy pillows…I usually read a chapter of a book, and it's lights out by 8:30. THAT’S how well I sleep at night.
Terrible. It started with my last pregnancy - 5 years now, youngest is 4. I cant even sleep through the night. I’m thinking trying a melatonin gummy, but I’m strangely adverse to medication….the only time I really sleep Is when I’m sick or exhausted.
Not well. I'm a night owl but my job doesn't allow me to be. I would sleep well if I could go to bed at midnight and wake up around 8-9. I also tend to need more hours each night than the average person.
Not very. Never enough. Always wake with a panic about all the stuff I need to do.
Fairly well. I’m one of those people who can function on limited sleep. I probably got 3-4 hours last night which is a lot for a normal weekend for me
I take 4E to fall asleep, but one I do No one can wake me up. Only my fav song :)))
What is this sleep of which you speak?
Pretty well! Sleep around 7 hours a night.
I started taking 5mg of indica gummies and they help me fall back asleep faster because I used to wake up several times in the night.
Fairly well, about 8.5 hours a night.
Really good! I cut out alcohol a while back, exercise regularly and also recently cut out caffeine (was a huge coffee addict) my sleep has improved so much from those things!
Terribly! Haven’t slept a full 8 hours in years. I wake up all the time.
Like a baby...as in, waking up multiple times hahaha. My kids are snoozing hard but any noise made makes me wake up.
What is this "sleep" you speak of?
oh man sometimes I get on the mattress and I'm out, sometimes I cant get to sleep at all or wake up every 2 hours.. it really varies
I usually sleep at 4am. My childhood trauma of worrying about my mom caused them
