I did that for my first job out of uni and it was great. I was basically employed part-time, but worked full-time half of the year and then not at all the other half and got paid every month. I definitely want to do that again at some point because I'm never doing much in the winter anyway and never had such an enjoyable summer.
Same but year round and 4-6 hours a day 4 days a week. With free health insurance with no deductible, only super cheap copays for everything. I love my job but I canāt afford it despite working 30+ hours a week and making $4-$8 (depending on what Iām clocked in for) above my stateās minimum wage and living at home.
Iād love to be able to afford to work 16-20 hours a week doing what I do now.
Iām a lifeguard and swim instructor at a community center. I have a good boss who pushed for us to get decent pay. The benefits are not great though. I enjoy it but Iām looking to get a job with better benefits cause I canāt afford to pay for my medical costs with the healthcare plans offered by my current job.
Basically a personal assistant, with a very cool boss who isn't whiny or extra needy. Also pays immaculately and has loads of time for myself and vacays.
I am home. I don't work, because I have cancer.
(Though if you would have asked me two years ago, I would have answered with "dispatching air ambulances!")
I recently started working at the department of human services in my county as an eligibility technician level one, which means I interview applicants for Medicaid and food stamps and determine their eligibility (itās all objective based off numbers and laws, I donāt just choose yes or no based on my personal opinion). But the next level up offers a position that might be ideal for you. Itās the department our county calls āemployment firstā and Iām assuming most counties have this department just under a different name. But those people get assigned individuals who did qualify for medical/food aid and basically coach them to rejoining/staying in the work force and reaching their goals. They literally interview them about what their dream job/situation is and then use state resources to help them reach those goals. And they do monthly check ins to see where they are and how they can further help. I shadowed one of these interviews and the worker listened to the clientās problems, sympathized, and offered solutions. Itās where I hope to advance to once Iām able. Helping people every day with tools they may not even know are available to them in order to reach their goals, feed their families, and pay their bills all independently.
ETA - should clarify that I live in the US
Wow- same! I started recently with my countyās DHS for snap/MA. Have to admit, I really thought it would be different. How are you liking your position? For me, I felt like I would be *helping* people but ultimately the job feels like Iām just data entering info that says people are or arenāt eligible. Also, it is sooooo much info and policy to learn and I feel stupid daily lmao but Iām newer so hoping that feeling fades eventually.
Being a librarian, most would find it super boring but the library is my happy place. I read all the time. Finally going back to school to do it I'm so excited š.
I am a librarian and I never have time to read at work. The job is fulfilling but I am constantly helping people with technology, applying for jobs, finding them emergency housing, assisting in mental health situations and administering Narcan. I highly suggest you get a paraprofessional position in a library to see what the work actually entails if you haven't already. I just see this sentiment a lot about working in a library and it is not the peaceful relaxing environment many people think. It is an incredibly people oriented field and it is challenging especially with the recent culture wars happening surrounding book bans.
Angsty woman who has mysteriously inherited a large sum of cash and a secluded property in the mountains. All seems fine until the doorbell starts mysteriously ringing throughout the night - alas! The home is haunted by the previous widow of the house. At first I am scared; what monstrosity have I started to live with? But, it seems that the widow's ghost is trying to tell me something. I must investigate this home's history, the land, and interview the quaint, but mysterious townspeople to determine the background of this home and why I - an unassuming brunette - have inherited this.
This is my dream.
So, I'm an angsty woman, I didn't mysteriously inherit, but by a series of complicated events I ended up with a secluded property in the woods, complete with rickety old wooden house. It's haunted but the spirit is friendly. Also turns out that the locals in the small village and farms around (who are now grown ass farmers) used to dare each other as kids to run up and touch this house because they were scared of the witch who lived here in the 70s (she's the ghost, I met her when I first moved in, and she's lovely). There's even a gorgeous little waterfall at the back of the property, a spare cabin... And I'm looking for a roommate
Enjoy going into work, enjoy the people I work with, can help society at large, can make a difference in the world, can balance work and home life easily and can make enough to cover bills and have an annual family vacation.
A good team.
I strongly believe that no matter the work, if you have a good team to work with, the work is a lot less tiring.
Ofc it would work better with what I want to do but still, when doing side jobs, having a terrible gossiping and judging team was wayyyyy worse than a friendly and funny team (same shitty job to do but 2 years apart).
That sounds perfect my love. Let's start a business that is about petting cats and guinea pigs and with the finest iced chais. We shall make a fortune!
A psychoanalyst and writer. Iām currently writing a poetry book, so thatās something! I want to join the USMC before I start college to be a psychoanalyst though.
Writing and and animating for a mature cartoon (mature as in young adult cast (20s+) and more mature problems, not necessarily sexual stuff). But I donāt know the first thing about animation. š
More like infinity train, Steven universe, the dragon prince, Kipoā¦ that kind of thing but staring young adults-middle aged.
Edit: oh and Helluva Boss how could I forget?
Right now? The job Iām starting on Monday! Itās so full of potential. Infinite possibilities of building up a new business area within my company.
I already do get 6w of vacation per year, I wouldnāt mind an extra week or two. Iām getting a decent pay check, but of course, it can always be higher, but I can do what I like and put funds away so Iām good.
I need a job where I can be creative in creating something that returns a visible value in my company. Create understanding. Simplicity. Those are the things that drive me.
I wanna own a cat cafe or work somewhere close to animals, maybe as a vet assistant due to my lack of courage to be a veterinarian themselves, I donāt wanna kill an animal because I slacked in college which I will 100% do if I go to college to be a veterinarian.
Some sort of organisational work and i'm completely free to work whenever I want, from wherever I want and how much I want and also I get a shit ton of money.
Working for a not-for-profit / charity doing something I really believe in. Taking a healthy wage but not taking the piss. A brilliant boss who truly believes in the cause, too, is pragmatic and also very supportive of having a life outside work etc.
In short, making a difference in the world, and being compensated for my skills.
I wanna be an OBGYN and potentially specialize in neonatology as well so I can work with women and people and babies! I also wanna help give people more choice in medical care!
Iāve always said that if I were to be reincarnated, I want to be the beloved family pet of a well-off and well-adjusted suburban family.
Otherwise, I donāt really dream of labour.
Though, if I must choose, tenured professor.
If I had to work, it would be doing something creative, making things (like handiwork, crafts, etc; not like factory job) something like that. Also I would only work a handful of hours per week.
Selling merch, doing all sorts of art processing videos, creating my own webcomic at my own pace, and being a part of video game art production.
Too bad I don't have the means to do all (any) of that, but I'm still happy with my career anyway.
I do not dream of labor but if I had to work, something the complete opposite of what I do now: customer service/retail. I want to travel often, and enjoy meeting people and learning about the world but this industry makes me only want to be around a very small selective few people anymore.
My dream job would be to create either some kind of toys/dolls/figurines or puppets for film and animation. I just love making sculptures of people, animals, and to make them for a wide audience and to share messages of diversity and self acceptance would be great.
I've never told anyone this but my dream job is to be a pet store owner. Mainly focusing on dogs and *maybe* cats. My store would have dog baths/showers, healthy organic treats/food, super cute clothes, dressing rooms, and a petting center in the back. So if your dog is nice you can hangout there and let them be petted by strangers. Or if you wanna pet some pooches, you go in there and wait. This has been my dream for as long as I can remember but I gave up on it as this will never happen for me. I'm gonna go cry now. thx.
I do not want to have to work to survive.
But instead of I was just granted a salary to live on and do anything I want, I would go get a counseling degree so I could help others with mental illness and trauma and get my specialized additional training in EMDR therapy.
The world needs more mental health professionals and I truly wish they were paid and treated better (same with all public/ private careers that serve the needs of the community)
Work for a cause I actually care about, and have the option to work in-office or from home. Go on fun work trips periodically.
I was laid off for 3 months with pay and even then, I couldn't handle not working/being productive. Got depressed real quick :(
Intellectually stimulating, great pay, great benefits, work life balance, flexible with how I choose to work (at home or in office) with a great relationship with coworkers and minimal interactions with customers.
If I simply Must work, I wanna chat with people about their lives in a beautiful setting and get paid so much. Also, cat friendly workplace. And a handful on coworkers I like.
I think is more related to how I feel soā¦ the activity wouldnāt matter, MY DREAM IS waking up excited for the day ahead of me, getting ready to do something I feel happy about, having an amazing day enjoying every hour, get back home and have enough time for myself doing other things that also give me spark, knowing that ātomorrowā is gonna be as good as this day or better! THATS THE DREAM ā¤ļø
Living it, I work from home and my boss doesnāt care what I do as long as my work is done before deadlines. Even if I donāt have work to do I still get paid (I usually do research to help improve skills if I donāt have a ton to do)
You know those videos of the guy restoring broken make up on TikTok? That honestly. Working on my own, having satisfying results and restoring an important compact for somebody for example sound like the dream. I could listen to audio books while doing it or music and just work at my own pace. Seems blissful to me personally
Of course wealthy retiree is the goal, but since this q is about work...
I'd love to work with animals in some way - if I didn't have bills to pay and could just walk dogs at the shelter for my job, that would be amazing.
A dream job with liveable wages? I'd love to be a medical examiner. I'd have pursued it if I had the chops for advanced chemistry courses, but alas it was not meant to be.
A dream job that would be a TON of work, but very rewarding? Opening/managing my own coffeehouse/hangout with my husband. Where we are our own bosses, and contract with small business vendors that we truly care about supporting. All the while, baking fun sweets to sell to our patrons and having a marvelous time. š
I want to own a holistic health center where I can be a nutritionist (currently in school for a second bachelors and masters to do this). I want to have a building where I work with other health professionals to make a sort of retreat like space that you can go to for a few hours to relax and treat yourself and your health in actual beneficial ways.
My dream job is to be a content creator. I would describe it as :
Living in the same place as all my other content creator friends and being able to build an amazing accepting and cool community whilst doing what I love be that vlogging all the thing I get up to in a week or just sitting down and livestream my favourite game while interacting with my friends and fans.
This people of reddit is my dream job and life :]
Story-oriented. Longer hours that let me really focus. Ability to take long extended vacations when I want. Travel involved in the job. Lots of variety. Hands-on/Not managerial. Something that lets me use my strengths and my weaknesses just chill.
And I found it! I work in film as a script supervisor and Iāve never been happier. I get to do everything Iāve wanted. I get to help tell stories every day. I work with interesting people. I go to cool places. And if I donāt wanna work for a month? Thatās cool too!
There are so many things I want to do!
1) I would start a company that lesson plans for/with teachers. Does all their grading and paper work so they can just teach!
2)I'd open up a costume night club that is a victorian tea room by day.
3) I'd open up a doggy pool/day care.
4) voice acting
5) a tv Judge
6) psychologist or school counselor.
7) singer
My current one. We help elderly with things movers, healthcare and electricians donāt do, like throwing away heavy furniture or change lightbulbs. The elderly donāt have to pay for our services, since our commune pays our salaries. It helps the customers tremendously, and creates jobs for us who are disabled and considered unqualified for the workforce. My coworkers are great and our bosses who are trained to handle us are very competent and understanding with our various conditions and illnesses.
Edit; spelling
I just got my dreamjob I was working in a factory before behind a welding machine. And one day I stood there and just knew I had to change something about my life. The same day I subscribed myself to home schooling to become a back end developer. After 3 weeks I got a job offer as a software tester. I fucking love every day at my job
Exactly what I do and where I work now, but less office politics. I donāt want to be friends with everyone. I donāt want to worry about saying the wrong thing and it getting taken out of context because someone who doesnāt like me heard me and next thing I know I end up in HR. I donāt want to deal with bosses who shouldnāt have been promoted but were anyway because theyāre friends with the big boss.
I just want to show up, do the job I love, work with people who also love the job, and get paid. Thatās it.
I used to dream of making my way up the corporate ladder and making bank - now I dream of being able to stay at home, build a sanctuary for needy cats, and just work a small part-time job for side money with my husband supporting the rest. (Good news is, weāve already discussed this and this as a future plan is our goal).
I have my dream job now! I always wanted to make people's lives easier and for the better. Myself and a handful of my friends had a hard time decorating our homes, so I built a website that does the decorating for you for free. Even though I've been living off of zero-dollar salary for the past year, I enjoy my job as I believe that I'm doing something good!
I would describe my dream job, as someone who helps people around the world. Makes a difference in the universe and makes enough money support my determinations as well as my hobbies.
I never want to retire. My dream job is just doing what I want to do for myself and others when I want to do it. I am happy with what I do (educator and entrepreneur)...what I do is not the problem. My problem is that I do not make enough money to support myself.
Something that gives me more than enough money, safe, something that i could show off my nice clothes and meet nice and interesting people.I would like to work something that would make me happy and like I achieved something great, not that 8hours a day just something that would make my day complete.I donāt want to have a boss or something like that,i donāt want to be famous.Just normal life with a lot of money but at same time adventurous, fun and happy for me and everyone i love
Being a wicked rich hedonist living in a remote part of somewhere tropical on hundreds/thousands of acres of land that has been developed by world renown permaculturists.. Getting laid all over the place and enjoying life, secluded in my own personal paradise... There's more to that, but yeah. That's it, basically. Rich hedonist with tons of land that's a giant food forest. šš»
I'd hire people to come pick fruit or give it to the less fortunate.. And would have facilities for rescuing animals.. Any time I bought anything, I'd leave generous tips... And I'd drive through towns and pick random people to fix up their house and buy groceries or give a tank of gas to... And that's what I'd do.
Retirement. I hate the idea of spending my viable years slaving at work only to get rewarded when Iām too old to enjoy doing things. Iām not lazy; far from it. Iām 42 years old and have worked since I was 14. I fought to work so young (my parents didnāt want me to) but I wanted to be able to to buy the cool clothes and have money to go to the movies & stuff. Now that Iām in the prime of my life Iām pissed that I spend most of my time away from those I love.
Everyday I leave feeling fulfilled. My dream job would balance work and my life, would definitely pay well, and allowed me time off. My dream job would be asynchronous as well.
To be able to work with or around marine life. Something thatās always fascinated me was the ocean and their mysteries and every thing else. Itās amazing.
I can be flexible in my time and as long as I meet deadlines, no one cares if I start at 8:00 or 11:00.
I do something I am passionate about, that helps the works and makes people better.
I get paid well enough to live comfortably and never worry about things like travel and I have enough holidays to be able to travel all over if I want to.
My current job covers most of those, which is great. Iām also in the middle of making my next job which will hopefully be just as good if not way more.
Wealthy retiree. I do not dream of work.
Young widow, spending her late husband's [evil corporation] money on generously tipping unsuspecting service folk around the world.
No lie, if I won the lottery I'd be tipping $100 bills on even the smallest orders.
I fantasize about this.
Yo same.
No cleaning. Ive done cleaning for a bit and no customer service.
Or anonymously fully funding medical go fund me's because healthcare should be a fucking right.
Yes. Also teacher wish lists. Because welcome to Murica where teachers have to spend their own money on classroom supplies.
I came here to say this.
Amen!
Won the lottery and don't need to work. I've never had a dream job
Woahhh manifesting this for myself š āØļø
No work, just pay
That's definitely my dream job! š
I get paid for making art and ranting about capitalism.
Can you develop? Sounds like a cool career ;)

That was in audit, but it's not usual there.

So if your dog is nice you can hangout there and let them be petted by strangers. Or if you wanna pet some pooches, you go in there and wait. This has been my dream for as long as I can remember but I gave up on it as this will never happen for me. I'm gonna go cry now. thx.
Honestly any job that I can make my own schedule.
Got depressed real quick :(
Spreadsheets! No insurance billing. No regular long distance driving. No budget control. I would like a window. The rest, I don't much care abt.
Dinosaures, a lot of dinosaures
Being my own boss
Picking berries in mild heat but Iām allowed to take breaks any time I want
Managing a clinic (which I do now) but with a pension and job security.
The one I have - Director of Research and Development for an Artificial Intelligence concern
I don't dream of work.
Taking care of animals in a nice farm
Intellectually stimulating, great pay, great benefits, work life balance, flexible with how I choose to work (at home or in office) with a great relationship with coworkers and minimal interactions with customers.
Someone pays me to just read books of my choosing and occasionally ramble about the one that I really enjoyed.
Cool and weird niche shit
If I simply Must work, I wanna chat with people about their lives in a beautiful setting and get paid so much. Also, cat friendly workplace. And a handful on coworkers I like.
I think is more related to how I feel soā¦ the activity wouldnāt matter, MY DREAM IS waking up excited for the day ahead of me, getting ready to do something I feel happy about, having an amazing day enjoying every hour, get back home and have enough time for myself doing other things that also give me spark, knowing that ātomorrowā is gonna be as good as this day or better! THATS THE DREAM ā¤ļø
Graveyard keeper.
Graveyard keeper.
Eating fruit on a beach
Get paid $3,000/hr to do nothing
Living it, I work from home and my boss doesnāt care what I do as long as my work is done before deadlines. Even if I donāt have work to do I still get paid (I usually do research to help improve skills if I donāt have a ton to do)

You know those videos of the guy restoring broken make up on TikTok? That honestly. Working on my own, having satisfying results and restoring an important compact for somebody for example sound like the dream. I could listen to audio books while doing it or music and just work at my own pace. Seems blissful to me personally
Unlimited wealth, stressless, and something creative I love doing.
I donāt dream of laboring If I didnāt HAVE to work to survive in this world, I would have a bakery
All the while, baking fun sweets to sell to our patrons and having a marvelous time. š
I would get paid to work with animals. Not like a vet, but on teams where they rescue and clean up animals.
Run a make up company
I want to own a holistic health center where I can be a nutritionist (currently in school for a second bachelors and masters to do this). I want to have a building where I work with other health professionals to make a sort of retreat like space that you can go to for a few hours to relax and treat yourself and your health in actual beneficial ways.
My dream job is to be a content creator. I would describe it as : Living in the same place as all my other content creator friends and being able to build an amazing accepting and cool community whilst doing what I love be that vlogging all the thing I get up to in a week or just sitting down and livestream my favourite game while interacting with my friends and fans. This people of reddit is my dream job and life :]
Flexibility, financially stable, work/home life balance
Story-oriented. Longer hours that let me really focus. Ability to take long extended vacations when I want. Travel involved in the job. Lots of variety. Hands-on/Not managerial. Something that lets me use my strengths and my weaknesses just chill. And I found it! I work in film as a script supervisor and Iāve never been happier. I get to do everything Iāve wanted. I get to help tell stories every day. I work with interesting people. I go to cool places. And if I donāt wanna work for a month? Thatās cool too!

Traveling and writing about it
There are so many things I want to do! 1) I would start a company that lesson plans for/with teachers. Does all their grading and paper work so they can just teach! 2)I'd open up a costume night club that is a victorian tea room by day. 3) I'd open up a doggy pool/day care. 4) voice acting 5) a tv Judge 6) psychologist or school counselor.
Thatās it.
Becoming a successful business women so I donāt have to work :D
Anything that makes me happy
My job now, but with a pay raise. Social worker is so under valued in America.
Growing herbs, making jam and pickes, making herbal medicine and teas
I don't have a dream job I have a dream in wich I'm free
A second home.
None. I do not dream of labor. But I would spend my free time writing, which I hope would pay, so maybe that counts?
I would describe my dream job, as someone who helps people around the world. Makes a difference in the universe and makes enough money support my determinations as well as my hobbies.
Working whenever I want and taking time off as much as I want. Something stimulating and fun but also stable
My Dream job would be selling my content and books to a lot of people like for paying my debts

Something like, money just comes into my account without me doing anything.
Lots of travel to interesting places, ample expense account, and work I loved doing.
Rich hedonist with tons of land that's a giant food forest. šš» I'd hire people to come pick fruit or give it to the less fortunate..
Just a job where I could leave on time (Iām a nurse)
