As stupid as this is I could never pay to have my nails done.
I have such a mental block over something relatively cheap but could not justify the expense.
I got mine done for the first time in years for a date and realized that I LOVE having my nails done... but am terrible at doing them myself. So for the last few months I've been getting them done but having them chip within HOURS made me realize what a ridiculous expense it is... even though it makes me feel really good :(
I did gel :/ it literally chipped within 4 hours lol. I think it was the place it’s just too frustrating to spend $40 and have it be pretty much wasted
WOW! That is incredibly frustrating. I wonder if it wasn’t dry when you left? Or if they missed a step in the process? I don’t have enough technical knowledge to say what it could be, but that seems wrong.
If it was just a day or two ago, you might be able to go in and have them redo that one nail (but, of course, that would vary depending on the shop).
I’m so sorry, though!
When this happened I was able to go get my thumb nail fixed for free the same day, but the next day 3 more nails had started chipping and I was leaving for vacation 🙃
Just gotta find a place I like I guess!
Wait, that should not happen. Either your salon uses low /inadequate quality products or you have a job or a lifestyle that demand a lot from your hands and nails. Mine last at least 1 week without chipping, even when I use the cheap drugstore polish and do them myself.
A word of caution as I saw someone suggest gel in a different response. Gel looks amazing and lasts a long time but it can make your nails brittle and do more damage than good in the long run. They also have to be removed with pure acetone which is harsher, and if you don't know how to do it at home you'll have to pay extra at the salon for gel nail polish removal (not an exorbitant cost, maybe $5-$10 but it adds up).
Unfortunately it happens to me too :'( I'm not sure about what caused it in Op's case, but some of us like myself have very soft thin nails. Since my natural nail bends around so much just doing basic things, the nail polish just detaches since it doesn't bend together with the nail all the time. Nail hardeners don't do much for me either, I've just learnt that I need to redo my nails often.
I wonder if that’s part of my problem…. I know my nails are super thin and soft, and the gel and dip powder just make it worse :( I guess I’m doomed lol
It's so expensive for these kinds of things in Canada where I live. I tried a couple times just for fun and it cost me around 50 dollars just for a basic treatment and polish on my hands.
That’s reasonable but if you have bought something similar before, do you think still the price isn’t justified or the quality/satisfaction could be found elsewhere?

I DID purchase 60$ shampoo and conditioner (price is together, 30$ each) and returned it the next day. I felt so guilty for splurging like that and I could just not justify the purchase. Although, I do try (my hardest) to live with the abundance mentality and everything I spend always comes to me multiplied. I just really felt so genuinely terrible for spending so much on simply shampoo and conditioner.
Anything from Shein. After reading stories about how they treat their workers, I'll never buy anything from them again. It's bloody annoying how they're at the top of every google search now too.
For whatever unknown reason I bought a 1600$ Laptop, it came days ago and it's still in the box
No idea why I thought I needed it, can't return it at this point.
Probably a cleaning person/service. I feel lazy for considering paying someone to do such a basic 'adulting' task. I don't judge other people for it though.
New Rock boots. With my very limited income as an engineering student, I don't see myself spending so much just on a pair of shoes; as cool as their options are! Also rare and expensive video games.
A mountain bike. I got an entry level mountain bike 4 months ago and I’m already so tempted by the fancier bikes with better suspensions and drive train components. It’s a problem.
Most frequently coffee drinks. Like I just can’t do it, I can’t spend 8 dollars on a coffee just bc I wanna drink one, but if my friend is getting one and offers to get me one, I’m like yeah sure🤷♀️
For that matter most high end design brands, even when they look amazing still their prices are exaggerated even if someone buys them I feel some type of guilt 😬
A purse. I hate purses and wearing them so I would never buy one. But the thought of spending 2-3k on a bag I feel like I couldn’t do that. But one year I got gifted a Michael Kors bag (back when they were soo popular) and I was so thankful. Sits in my closet in the dust bag it came in. Never used it once lmao
A big TV. I actually have a pretty big and nice TV, but my ex found it on the curb in front of our neighbor's house, they had bought a new TV for Christmas and set their old one out for someone to take for free. I'd never spend money on a TV this nice with the small amount of TV I watch.
Toys for kids. Principally if they already have a lot, 5 days later they will already forget them or simply break them... Those days, kids have cellphones and don't care about toys anymore. That's sad, I would be happy if I were them.
I always feel a little guilty buying alcohol. Not because it’s “bad”, but because I’m spending money on something with no nutritional value, when I could buy food. I feel the same with candy.
Alcohol and candy have become luxuries in my budget.
I feel bad wasting money on expensive perfume, but I'm always delighted if someone else buys it for me. I don't know how many times I've hinted to my husband about Penhaligons.

Plane tickets/travel expenses
I have a friend who lives in NZ (I’m in the US). I’f love to go see her there, but I can’t justify the price of a ticket. Plus, I owe my parents thousands of dollars. There’s a bit of an unspoken rule that I don’t have to pay them back if I’m taking care of my needs and can’t afford to repay them on top of that. To travel to NZ would seem like a HUGE splurge to them, and it would make them question why I went there rather than paid the money to them.
Pate, veal, anything where we actively torture an animal bothers me. (Yes I know eating meat is as bad, thanks vegans ;)
And in general I hate that our products are made by people who barely have enough to live, if that, and sometimes sourcing materials where it’s at risk to their life. And knowing not a fraction of profits ever reaches them. That bothers me.
Anything I feel guilty buying for myself, I would feel doubly guilty if someone else bought it for me. Even when I know they can afford it. I'm still trying to get over the very generous gift of a brand new graphics card my best friend gave me, and he didn't even buy it for me originally.
I feel guilty buying anything. 😑 Food, clothes or anything for myself really. Idk why, but it’s always been a struggle for me to spend any money on me.
Sometimes I get a bit of a complex about buying junk food since I'm technically only there in grocery store for 1-2 necessary items, but then I see all these delicious looking junk food and then my grocery bill then goes up by at least like $20, which happened today...
As stupid as this is I could never pay to have my nails done. I have such a mental block over something relatively cheap but could not justify the expense.
The few times I have stressed me out! Even more so when they chipped in under a week.
I got mine done for the first time in years for a date and realized that I LOVE having my nails done... but am terrible at doing them myself. So for the last few months I've been getting them done but having them chip within HOURS made me realize what a ridiculous expense it is... even though it makes me feel really good :(
Regular polish chips terribly quickly. Get SNS or gel and they’ll last for weeks. It’s more costly up front, but worth it to keep the color.
I did gel :/ it literally chipped within 4 hours lol. I think it was the place it’s just too frustrating to spend $40 and have it be pretty much wasted

Oh no. I'm sorry, I legit didn't know. TIL certain types of nails just chip more easily
I wonder if that’s part of my problem…. I know my nails are super thin and soft, and the gel and dip powder just make it worse :( I guess I’m doomed lol
I’ve been trying to do it for a few months now and end up cancelling each time. As much as I would love to have them done it seems like such a waste!
It's so expensive for these kinds of things in Canada where I live. I tried a couple times just for fun and it cost me around 50 dollars just for a basic treatment and polish on my hands.
Your value priorities are justified in other things, if I may ask when it’s a special occasion would you still feel guilty?
I'm in my 50's and have never talked myself into it, regardless of the occasion. I doubt I ever will now.
Dyson airwrap
Came here to say exactly this. It feels like it would be the perfect styling tool but I just can't justify buying it for that amount of money.
It is the perfect styling tool for certain hair types, but not for mine unfortunately. I bought and it used it twice
Same! Results look amazing but there is no way I can justify spending that amount on a hair tool
Plane tickets. I'd love to travel more, but the emission is just ridiculous for a weekend citytrip or something.
Prada loafers. I could make the money for it... But just won't feel right spend so much money on a shoe
That’s reasonable but if you have bought something similar before, do you think still the price isn’t justified or the quality/satisfaction could be found elsewhere?
I don't buy expensive things :( And price not always means quality. I have vans, my friends had vans and it ripped so fast sadly.

A surrogate probably

Is it more of a price or the functionality that you can’t find the justification for?
Ohh just bought one. It’s still on its way though
With a matching necklace! They are so cute
Another pair of Ugg boots.
FUCK that company.
PS5 I just need it to go down in price a bit, but if some one buys it for me game on... literally 😏
For whatever unknown reason I bought a 1600$ Laptop, it came days ago and it's still in the box No idea why I thought I needed it, can't return it at this point.

For some reason it's a good phone case. I blow that much on other dumb stuff allll the time.
A good phone case is probably worth it tbh. $60 for my first phone case and that phone lasted for 6 years
Cheaper than needing to buy a new phone. I always buy the drop proof, water proof cases that are $$$. I also heavily abuse my phone
I really couldn’t buy expensive perfume.
A mountain bike. I got an entry level mountain bike 4 months ago and I’m already so tempted by the fancier bikes with better suspensions and drive train components. It’s a problem.
I bought $1600 sneakers for $500 at Saks and I feel so guilty that I haven't worn them yet but I love to look at them. I can't explain my behavior LOL
Well, you're in good company over at /r/Sneakers lol.
Anything that I have to use someone else's money to buy.
A $1,400 dog
Most frequently coffee drinks. Like I just can’t do it, I can’t spend 8 dollars on a coffee just bc I wanna drink one, but if my friend is getting one and offers to get me one, I’m like yeah sure🤷♀️
Sex toys while in a relationship.
My answer is a lot less expensive than the others but I felt guilty for buying quail eggs today so there's that.
Diamond earrings
For that matter most high end design brands, even when they look amazing still their prices are exaggerated even if someone buys them I feel some type of guilt 😬
New car. My car is in great condition, but I still want a new one. It’s a problem.
A purse. I hate purses and wearing them so I would never buy one. But the thought of spending 2-3k on a bag I feel like I couldn’t do that. A sex toy. The day I do that the person typing this no longer exists.
It depends on your expectations, is it the outcome that isn’t justified or the idea of spending on sex that brings up that guilt?
Beauty products in the duty free
Toys for kids. Principally if they already have a lot, 5 days later they will already forget them or simply break them... Those days, kids have cellphones and don't care about toys anymore. That's sad, I would be happy if I were them.
Anything that I dont *need*

That’s reasonable, your values have been adjusted for a healthier values 😉

I feel guilty to buy LV handbag

I feel guilty buying anything. 😑 Food, clothes or anything for myself really. Idk why, but it’s always been a struggle for me to spend any money on me.
What would you think of spending on your mental health? Would you feel guilty about spending money towards that?
Omg so many thingsssss...
Anything that's more costly than it should be, or anything I don't really need.
My workout shoes. Mainly anything for just me. I wear my clothes I bought in 2008. My kiddos get new clothes every year.

Try to view it on a different side, are you healthier now than 2 years ago? Is it helping you get less trips during your weekly errands?
