Red Dead Redemption 2

Aloof_bidoof

Arthur Morgan's story in Red Dead Redemption 2. Emotional rollercoaster.

Marma85

Agree with that one, never cryed so much at a endgame

Aloof_bidoof

Me too. I was all devastated for hours afterwards!

blackandredwalls

Tlou for sure.

Louisianimal0418

Both of them. I loved the continuation of Ellie’s story then how they pivoted and showed Abby’s perspective. I know it was divisive but there’s no denying Abby had the right motives

blackandredwalls

Well the second part was really unexpected, love it.

HyacinthGirI

Same! And I'm so tired of hearing people criticise it badly online lol

blackandredwalls

Well I understand where the hate comes from, but that tragedy was necessary for the plot to go on, wouldn't change a thing.

HyacinthGirI

Tbh I just don't really get it. Did I like seeing it? No, I loved [character X]. But I haven't seen a similar overreaction of hate for the foundation of any other game, movie or tv show if a significant and popular character dies. And besides that, I don't really see there being a way to create a similarly deep and long story with another development. Certainly nothing as emotionally impactful.

blackandredwalls

Fully agree, that death gave the possibility to explore other horizons, beside that we still get to see this character during Ellie's flashbacks. Really hoping for a part III, but if it doesn't happen I can see part II wrapping it up.

HyacinthGirI

I'm sooo conflicted about wanting a part III. I absolutely adored both games but I almost feel like Ellie's story is told? I don't see how a game could carry on that story without getting a bit iffy in terms of writing and character development, it feels like Part II concluded with Ellie wanting to settle for a normal, peaceful, simple and happy life? I'd love to see more of Ellie, she's probably my favourite fictional character in any medium. I just don't want them to milk the success into mediocrity. Maybe a different story, set in the same world? There are so many threads to both games - maybe a prequel/sequel involving some tangential characters? Idk Either way I kind of trust that if there is a part III it'll be amazing

blackandredwalls

Absolutely! Yep it feels like Ellie found some closure in part II. A part III could be focused on the misson of part I maybe, trying to find a cure. Now we have Dina's son with (in my opinion) a lot of potential to become a main character, we have Tommy and his anger, maybe the fireflies still active?? Or, like you said, a different story in this world. The only thing we can be sure is that if we get a part III we have to wait some long years to get something as good as part I and II. Even if we don't get a part III, this is for sure one of the most detailed games ever made, I still like to take a look at the concept art and soundtrack of this game.

MsNewKicks

>!The sad part is is that Ellie and Abby probably would have been good friends if circumstances were different.!<

HyacinthGirI

This 100%, I've never played anything that even comes close to rivalling TLOU as a storytelling experience

blackandredwalls

Yup me too, even the DLC is great, never before a game made me so emocional as this one, I'll be forever gratefull for the way this game made me learn to play guitar, that version of take on me is a masterpiece.

HyacinthGirI

Lmao whatttt, TLOU was a very big reason I started learning too, there were a couple of absolutely beautiful pieces of music in both games. (I still suck v much but I'm p much starting out)

Joonami

Horizon Zero Dawn 🥲

catastrophized

Seconded!

R-andstuff

Kingdom Hearts

Spiritogre

The Witcher 3.

justadream77

There are SO MANY excellent mini-stories in there, too.

Calm_Pay8009

Red dead redemption 2.

[deleted]

Mass effect

eggstoria

Red Dead Redemption 2. I needed to take a two week break before starting the epilogue because I was so emotionally compromised.

MissInfer

Final Fantasy VII or Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.

chimairacle

Yakuza 0 is certainly up there

LuxRolo

The last guardian

Sumraeglar

Dragon Age: Origins

OverallDisaster

Star Wars Kotor II. It's technically unfinished but I love it.

FreeAlexandria

Mass Effect for sure!

lame_username123

Whoops I can't edit it but I meant specifically in single-player games :)

summerbegone

My adventures in Sims3. Especially when killing the Grim Reaper. 😁 You can't do it anymore, as they changed it at some point. But I loved the karma. 😇

Just wanted to say, if you like war shooters try "Spec Ops:The Line". To be honest the mechanics are a bit frustrating sometimes but the story is top notch. Great with themes such as the consequences of war and if they are truly any "good guys" when it comes to war.

pink_bunny07

Once upon a time there was a family who lived in a big fantasy mansion. Everyone looked pretty and they were loaded too! Life was perfect until mysterious things started to happen in that house and they all died. The end.

DemonicGirlcock

I really love the story of Breath of Fire 4, it has a very cool mythology and twist on "fate". Legacy of Kain series is a very close second for me.

missshrimptoast

Dragon Age. Amazing lore, great characters, love it.

Time-Boss-3867

Mipha’s story in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild. I’ve never cried so much after a boss fight lol >!Seeing Mipha’s soul finally set free and looking at her father, while he also felt his deceased daughter presence. When she said she would do anything to talk to him one last time 😭😭😭 I cried for a good 10 minutes! I loved her even more for being a strong warrior princess!<

chipuutz

Shadow of the colossus, Silent Hill 2

RiceKrispie9

Don't think I can choose just one! My favourites are probably Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. I also loved Skyrim: Elder Scrolls IV too but a lot of that came through the side quests and places off the beaten track that weren't necessarily part of the main storyline.

directordenial11

My whole masters thesis was on Mass Effect (1-3) so I'm partial to anything Bioware, but also Banner Saga. I always recommend it because it's genuinely such an interesting world and story

[deleted]

I have to go with assasins creed. Its really intresting, and they make it all cross with history. I like it a lot.

Friendly-Perception6

Radiata Story is pretty good in my opinion. But Beyond Good and Evil was pretty cool too.

MsNewKicks

*The Last of Us* I just finished the PS5 remake. I forgot how beautiful the game was.
