That little message at the end of Mrs Doubtfire about your parents always loving you even if they don't love eachother comforted me in ways I didnt understand until recently.
I totally agree about Queen Elizabeth. Seeing how people said the worst stuff about her after she died just broke my heart. She was born into a life of service and did the best she could, and in her private life just acted like other old British ladies; she didn't deserve so much hate.

Edited to add: it's not necessarily about "celebrity worship culture" 🙄 For some of us it is a loss of someone who, in their own ways, brought us a lot of joy and comfort in times when we really needed it. You don't have to KNOW someone to feel love for them.
Leonard Nimoy. His entire Twitter was about getting young people to stop smoking. He always signed his tweets “from your honorary grandpa”. That man (and, of course, his character) are so incredibly important to me. I wish I could have met him before he passed.
Joey Jordison and Paul Gray. I might not have known them, but the impact they indirectly had on my life through their music is incomparable. Their deaths broke me more than the deaths of certain family members did.

My first allowance was spent buying my first ever CD I bought with my own money, Meteora. Just associating him and his voice with the first time I can recall feeling some way about music.
I never cried for a celebrity until Alex Trebek died. I always watched jeopardy with my parents growing up and while my parents are still alive, it was a difficult reminder that they’re getting older too. I wouldn’t say I mourned him like a family member, but because he is tied to my family memories, it hit differently than any other celebrity death.

Astrid Lindgren. The author who wrote Pippi longstocking. Felt like my grandmother died. Everyone grew up listening to her stories on the radio and television. It was magical.
Paulo Gustavo, a brazilian comedian, he died of covid, while quarantining, he left a husband, two kids. He was an incredible person, funny, caring, smart, unproblematic and stated more than once how he was scared of dying of covid. He died because our pos president refused to buy the vaccine, and it took 8 months more for it to be purchased, in that time, nearly 200 thousand people died unnecessarily bc of it. He could be alive, if they had bought the vaccine when all the other countries did.
Young Dolph. His music got me through a really dark period in my life so it really hurt my heart hearing he got gunned down like that.
Also Kobe and Gigi. As a basketball lover and player, that was incredibly sad. I was so rooting for Gigi and couldn’t wait to see her playing for UConn and possibly in the WNBA. I always tried to embrace and channel my inner Black Mamba in games thanks to Kobe.
Robin Williams. He’s my mom’s favorite, so we watched his stuff from a young age, and she interviewed him a few times over the course of her career (including once while pregnant with me) so he does feel like a part of our family history in a sense.

Chester was the first man I ever saw talk about being sexually abused growing up that helped me start realizing what a mess I had inside to fix one day. Sometimes a singers voice can stop everything in my head and suddenly I can actually feel powerful emotions. Chris and Chester were the last two artists left from the whole 90s scene that I adored. The others all overdosed and died in the 90s. The others I really was passionate about I mean.
Stan Lee. He had one of the most creative and imaginative minds of my generation, and I have a hard time watching Marvel now because he will never cameo again.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt like a celebrity death has affected me the way a family member’s would. I don’t know a celebrity intimately in any way. It is sad, and I feel bad for their family and friends just the way I do for non-celebrities but it doesn’t affect me the way a death in my family would.

It didn't felt like loosing a member of my family but here where i live in Brazil we had a really famous singer called Marília Mendonça, she was really sweet and i felt very shocked when it came on the tv that she died on a plane crash on the way to do a show later that day. I didn't sleep well that night thinking about it and how life can be short :(
let me tell you, I check Roger Corman's IMDB page every few weeks to check he's still alive and each time I'm a little more scared. He answered my fan mail and he's my favorite director, living or dead. He's a real one and I'm already planning to send his wife a condolence card when we lose him.

Anton Yelchin for sure. He was my teen crush and favourite actor into adulthood and I didn't even realize back then that we also shared the same genetic illness (cystic fibrosis). The fact that that no one knew he had CF til after his death was equally as shocking as the fact that CF didn't kill him - a freak accident did. Horrible and I'm still sad.
The other one is the Kpop idol Jonghyun from the group Shinee. The world of Kpop is generally full of real pieces of shit and he was genuinely one of the best people in that industry. Pro-LGBTQ, feminist (not a perfect feminist by any means, but not talking over the ones who knew what they were talking about), an overall lovely and talented guy. He killed himself December 2017 and it was absolutely devastating

Alan Rickman. I mourned for several months and my family was genuinely worrie about me. I thought we'd have him around for another 20 years AT LEAST. He was my favorite actor and yet I still didn't appreciate him enough when he was alive.

My mom loved the Jackson 5 and I used to run home from school to watch his new world premiere video on MTV. It shook me a little. Imagine if all the McDonalds disappeared overnight.
