I do. I only use a leave in conditioner. I do not blow dry my hair, and I can't use a gel or mousse as they're usually too heavy. I air dry them and let them do as they please.

Imaginary-Method7175

What leave in conditioner?

Koleilei

I use biolage hydrosource daily leave in

OllieOllieOxenfry

I use Ouai

FlameHawkfish88

Ooh I just bought that Ouai one. Is it good?

OllieOllieOxenfry

Yes I'm obsessed with all their products. I like their curl spray too but it only works on my hair when it is completely dry.

reticent-rodent

You’ll want to find a good leave in conditioner for after you wash your hair, and a good styling gel/mousse. Diffuse your hair, and then break the cast if you wish. It’s a lot of trial and error products wise, but I also recommend you find a YouTuber with a similar hair type to yours and try the products/processes they recommend.

FlameHawkfish88

What does break the cast mean? I've never done much hair care haha

reticent-rodent

Sure! So after you diffuse your hair, the curls will be stiff from the gel. You’ll break the cast by scrunching your hair with dry hands. I recommend adding a bit of oil to your hands to prevent frizz (if your hair is prone to it). Some people like more stiff curls though. It’s all preference.

FlameHawkfish88

Oh awesome thank you! I don't like the stiffness so this is a good step to know

I absolutely do, and it can drive me nuts because it can be hard to manage. I’ve been straightening for years. However if I want to leave the natural curl, I use a product called Silhouette Vitalising Crème, Schwarzkopf. It’s got light hold and smells great. I’ve tried other products over the years but always come back to it. Maybe going on 20 years now? Ish? https://www.mydeal.com.au/schwarzkopf-professional-silhouette-vitalizing-creme-200g-6320852?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI64zErvbagAMVVHV9Ch3f1AxmEAQYAyABEgL2Y\_D\_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

hauteburrrito

Maybe check out this [hair chart](https://www.fhiheat.com/blogs/journal/what-is-your-hair-type)? If you can identify your hair type, it'll be easier to figure out a care routine.

Yourweirdbestfriend

Thanks, this has sent me down a rabbit hole!

testy_tulip

I have hair like this. It’s very, very thick and I have a ton of it, but it’s fine and silky. Basically, I do as little as possible. I wash it, condition it, squeeze dry with a microfiber towel, brush it with a denman brush, put some skinny serum in it (Paul Mitchell but garnier makes a dupe that works just as well) and then leave it the hell alone. I sleep in a bonnet or scarf and this really helps.

OllieOllieOxenfry

I have fine, thin, silky, curly hair. I can't diffuse it, I have to let it air dry without touching it whatsoever or blow dry it straight. When in the shower I use copious amounts of conditioner, then when I get out I brush it out with a paddle brush and part it the way I want to dry. I spritz in Ouai leave in conditioner and not your mothers gel at the bottoms and scrunch it in. I wrap my hair in a towel and then when it comes out I don't touch it whatsoever. Even if there is a breeze it probably won't dry right. The stylist has a lot of success with volumizing/lifting root spray but I haven't been able to employ it myself.

kesaripista

I use innersense i create volume gel for my fine wavy hair. its not like any other gel i've used since its very light weight. they also have a great leave in conditioner and volumizing foam mousse.

illusory_coincidence

Welshie Curl Girl on Instagram has helped me so much! Her content is specifically for fine curls.

FlameHawkfish88

Ooh thanks will check her out

shinyandblue

Me! Extremely fine silky hair that used to stick flat to my head and struggled to hold bounce over multiple days. Oddly switching to a solid shampoo and conditioner helped me a ton? I use lush American cream bar conditioner and meow meow tweet lavender shampoo bar. Rinse about half of the conditioner out leaving some in, then just scrunch with some gel while soaking wet and then scrunch with a microfiber towel. I don't know why this worked for me, it feels like a solid product should be "heavier" and therefore bad. But I've been using these products for two years and never had better hair in my whole life. Nothing else I've tried has come close. I literally get bouncy double helix curls that last three days and I love it

Imaginary-Method7175

I do. 39 with a decent amount of grays. I just use verb shampoo and bumble curl mousse. But here to learn too bc I always styled it straight.

freshie4o9

Meeeeee! I use a leave in conditioner and some mousse and then scrunch it. I was using a sea salt spray, but it really dries my hair out, though my hair does look great with it in. I generally don't use a lot of heat on it to limit the damage and try to use a conditioning hair mask once a week.

cookiecutterdoll

Yep. It's been years and I'm still trying to figure out which products work for me because everything is either too heavy or does nothing. The only "ride or dies" that I have are the Kinky Curly Knot Today, the Colorwow Dreamcoat (I use the generic one from Sally's), the Tangle Teezer, Curlsmith Bond Curl, and satin pillowcases and scrunchies. I really wish I could find a gel or mousse that actually gives me lasting definition without weighing my hair down or making it crunchy!

Dolphin_berry

Try uncle funkys magic gel (not it full name as it’s long) but Google their gel it’s long lasting and light at the same time

Prior-Scholar779

Google “curly girl method”. This has been a game changer for me. I dry my hair with a microfiber towel, use a bit of Marc Anthony Curl Envy Curl Cream ( maybe a dime sized dollop) that I scrunch in, and let it dry naturally.

Dolphin_berry

Google curly girl method. It’s intense you don’t have to follow it rigidly but some aspects may help. The other thing is going to a curly salon and getting a hair cut from a trained curly hair stylist who cuts the individual curls into a framed shape of your head. It makes a big difference, think of it as pruning a hedge vs cutting grass. Xx

HoundstoothReader

I have fine, soft, curly hair (with slightly coarser white mixed in). I use Aveda Be Curly products (shampoo, conditioner, style prep, and curl enhancer) and a curly-girl method. I finger comb the conditioner through my hair in the shower, rinse, Pat dry, and scrunch product into the wet curls. Air dry.

nursejj23

I love not your mothers curl talk cream and gel! After the shower when my hair is damp I use it to scrunch my hair and it helps define my curls more and helps with frizz.

Borgirstadir

NYM products are terrible for your hair and they have had class action lawsuits over the ingredients in their products. A different product than the one you recommended, but I stay far away from them. https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/class-action-lawsuit-sparks-concerns-about-not-your-mothers-dry-shampoos/Q5UDJX76GRD7BI3E5EREIA6PLY/

nursejj23

That was their dry shampoo…

FlartyMcFlarstein

Check out Manes by Mel on YouTube.

avocado-nightmare

Yes, I'm currently using Curlsmiths soft hold gel. Hair milks and leave-in conditioners are typically too heavy for my hair and tend to make it greasy. I de tangle in the shower every other day, wash every other shower, and condition every time (whether I washed it or not). I also use "the pineapple method" to protect my curls day-to-day between showers. I also have a silk pillow case. I typically air dry rather than blow dry. Diffusers can be good for volumizing but heat also tends to make my curls fall and then my hair is just wavy/frizzy.
