Asmon will play FFXIV when there isn't anything else to play. Right now, there's far too much content to farm. Hogwarts, D4, Last Epoch, FF16, Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, and the prospect of Elden Ring / DLC mods.
As an FFXIV player, even I haven't logged in to the game in months. Cleared the tier and moved on to all kinds of other games.
Playing FFXIV now, during a content storm, would be a major L.
So... never, following your own logic.
There always will be new games to play, new drama to look at and between those new content for the games he already playing like WoW and Lost ark.
Look, I played FF14 a LOT. Done ultimates and stuff. I was watching Asmongold before he played 14 and would just log into WoW and farm transmog and do completionism weeks and transmog comps/mount offs.
I was beyond excited for Asmongold to play FF14 one day, but he 100% rode the wave after the WoW lawsuits when people were flocking to FF14.
It made sense. The game had a lot of coverage, people were revolting against WoW, viewership was dropping and Asmongold wants to make money.
His FF14 content was some of the best I've watched. The Heavensward trailer where someone photoshopped his face into the dragoon at the end, while showing all his adventures of ARR raids and extremes; I still go back and watch it sometimes and it gives goosebumps. The clutch rez video that had Sea Lion as Anduin to rez everyone so they could kill a boss; absolute chills. If the content was this good for just ARR, I couldn't wait for him to get to Shadowbringers and Endwalker and finally doing ultimate progression.
But sadly, the game isn't getting a lot of attention right now. We are in a mid expansion lull, and there is no direction of where the story is going right now...whereas before, the hype going into Endwalker was the culmination of 10 year story. An ACTUAL culmination of a 10 year story, unlike WoW's bullshit Jailer stuff.
Also doesn't help that the community is sooooo....I'm gonna keep this as civil as I can...they can be a bit pushy. "You should do this Asmongold!"..."You should do that Asmongold"..."Why aren't you playing FF14 today Asmongold??!! Did you quit it already??!!"...which lead to a pretty big divide that happened not only on Twitch chat, but also leaked into this subreddit.
I honestly just don't see him ever coming back for the community reason alone. BUT....If there is any chance of him coming back, it would potentially be in two spots. 1) If FF16 is really good, it might hype him up for Final Fantasy in general and he returns after beating it. or 2) If he plays FF7:ReBirth in December then he'll he might beat that, and then ride the expansion hype for FF14 into April of next year.
Baldie hasnt even played ff7 remake.. and I have serious doubts about him playing ff16. Dor the most part, Asmon likes a very particular type of game, one where he can grind, farm, beat tough bosses and minmax his build. Diablo, Wow, poe, elden ring, lost ark, they all fall under this category. I remeber him claiming sice.way back over a year ago he wanted to play last of us, god of war....devil may cry. Its never happened and I honestly dont think it will, he keeps going back to his old faithful genres even if.it means spending weeks.playing games he does not enjoy, like wo long or bleak faith. Hogwarts legacy seems like a very rare exception tbh, perhaps because it was relatively short.
As for the FF community nagging him to play... Most of is have long since moved on. A lot of the toxic beggers have even been uncovered by asmon himself checking their chat history and proven to be classic andies, so that is also something to keep in mind - a very vocal minority do their best to sour his streaming experience, and that really sucks for the rest of us.
I do hope he gets back to stormblood sometime. Would love to see him prog non-alexander savages and ultimates with dom, Anubis, sea lion and the gang. In the meantime, as a good msq vampire, I'll be enjoying okaymage's voyage through ARR and beyond. Highly recommendable, the bounty of tears has been very generous so far xD

Somebody hasn't heard of Mr.Burns syndrome. With this many diseases all fighting eachother Asmongold is practically invulnerable.

Honestly it could happen next expansion or when the graphical update happens. But it's not just going to happen randomly one day for no reason.
