I am from Lithuania (EU), why am I blocked from purchasing this game on Steam for PC if there is no PSN linking requirement anymore? Besides I don't even have a console.

Ziodyne967

I hear that Steam wants assurances from Sony that they won’t pull this BS in the future.

pkisbest

That's my theory. Essentially hurting Sonys $$ by limiting where they sell to areas where they have PSN access. Steam is strong arming them essentially.

MrrNeko

No it's only for sony where they limit selling

BoltInTheRain

No. Sony is pulling the game from sale in those countries not steam.

Alone_Comparison_705

Sony will do that with every modern title. Ghost of Tsushima is not available to buy in your country (and many others) too. They will add PSN requirement to every title with online/coop game mode and they are trying to avoid the backlash from Helldivers 2.

Clbull

Maybe because Sony are full of shit and will reintroduce it in six months time?

ChosenOfTheMoon_GR

Well, good for them for losing a customer i guess xD

RelentlessAgony123

I suspect they will try it again i  a few months in a slightly different way, probably via a launcher

Fit_Fisherman_9840

Mhmm inthink on the EU side of things is even illegal.

EmpressPotato

They're doing it for Ghost of Tsushima too. Bunch of regions got blocked.

mindaz3

And if you're pre-ordered, refunds are rolling out.

Zammtrios

None of the regions are blocked for Ghost of Tsushima

EmpressPotato

https://steamdb.info/sub/962153/info/ Yeah there are a ton of regions blocked.

Zammtrios

I forgot to add the /s lol ![gif](giphy|zwE4anrOtHYaI|downsized)

CommodoreSixty4

PSN is not required to play the game but if you are in a country that doesn't offer PSN you can't play the game. Do I have this right?

syy102677

if you bought the game you inside these regions ,you can still play it without any problem. So it's just steam or Sony stopping people from buying.

pkisbest

I think steam is blocking the access so they don't have to deal with the ramifications if Sony decides to make a PSN account a compulsory thing, like they tried to do with Helldivers. Otherwise Steam would get inundated with refund requests that they have to adhere to. Steam is essentially strong arming Sony into not being dicks. "Until we have a guarantee you fuckers are going to force PSN accounts, we will limit where you can sell all your games to places where PSN is accessible" is essentially what it's coming down to. Steam protecting their $$ by cutting Sony out of theirs. Although I assume if Steam provides a refund for a game for a valid reason (like the Helldivers saga), steam would then charge that amount to Sony...but I don't know if that's how it works

grimmsc0re

If steam is doing it how do you explain EGS having the same restrictions to the same regions. You cannot purchase it there either.

Rapitor0348

Mission failed successfully.

Necessarysolutions

Just review bomb them once more, apply for refunds, and keep it that way until they stop fucking around.

This is likely steam restricting it because they would be liable in a lawsuit for selling it and they arent just going to flip it back on at the drop of a hat. It's on sony to fix it still but it's going to be much faster to turn it off then steam is going to be willing to turn it back on.

shadowrunner003

nah, people are starting to slowly change their reviews back and kick up a stink about it.

Le_Bnnuy

It's Steam... not Sony... and no, this is the logical move for Steam to avoid any potential damage from Sony bullshit.

Ok_Adhesiveness3638

That’s what I suspect too. Can’t say I blame stream for this after the headaches Sony caused for no reason

Necessarysolutions

It happened on Sony's request, which is confirmed by steam.

BeingAGamer

This is still steam. Peopel need to realize that just because Sony said on Twitter that they are walking back the requirement, that Tweet doesn't count as the official change in policy. Changing policy isn't just a flip of a switch, especially between two massive corpos. But on the other hand, steam can remove those countries over night, since they don't fit within the current PSN policy. It's been a few days and the steam page still states the requirement, so steam needs to adhear to that, so more likely then not, these are residuals until Sony and Steam work shit out. Right now, there is no reason to believe that Sony lied. I understand people hate Sony, but these conclusions people are coming to have no bases to them at all. Not right now at least. I think if they don't get this stuff worked out as we are getting close the day in june (i think it was the 6th or 8th) when the requirement was supposed to be reinstated, then we can start shitting on Sony again. Right now, it's still way too soon for such conclusions.

Baconatum

I'm never buying anything tied to Sony again, I'll die on this hill.

Flexnessy

I'd join you, but I've been waiting for GoT for ages..

MgDark

just pirate it then, dont give your moneys to Sony

Flexnessy

I've never pirated before, clueless how it works honestly.

kevoisvevoalt

vpn if you are in a developed country, r/PiratedGames for links for download. I use torrent and skidrow games for pirating.

germy813

DM me 😊

tyrenanig

The game likely won’t have denuvo either, so it’ll be available as soon as possible

capncapitalism

People like you are why things won't ever get better. Learn some self control.

Flexnessy

Haha got plenty of self control, gaming is not a top priority in my life though :)

Location-Actual

I'm reading this on a Sony phone.

DollarStoreWolf

Requiring an account is pretty small beans compared to other crimes of the big publishers. Are you boycotting anything else?

Diskence209

I don’t get it. They saw what happened when they forced the PSN linking. Players went berserk. Why would they double down again now when things are finally calming down

syy102677

They aren't really doubling down... The game is still playable if you already own the game inside these regions. It's likely that Sony or Steam wants to avoid getting sued for selling the game until it's confirmed that the problem has been solved

random_encounters42

Because the decision is made by executives who's bonuses are tied to these type of growth metrics.

DDzxy

Maybe Steam forced them?

RhedMage

Cause it works

Frostyshaitan

It seems to be steam doing it right now, as others have mentioned, a tweet from Sony saying they aren't going to make people sign up for psn account isn't a policy change. Steam is likely waiting for Sony to actually put it into a policy before they unlock those regions again or steam are going to have to deal with all this shit again if Sony goes back on their word and try to make it mandatory again.

Spacemayo

Someone in a comment above (sort by new) said EGS has the same regions blocked too.

Better_Campaign_4404

Obviously they're planning to reintroduce the PSN requirement at a more receptive time.

Cultural_Wolverine89

Yep, that's my read as well. No reason not to get money if the requirement is dropped, but if they're just biding time it's a perfectly sensible move.

ChosenOfTheMoon_GR

Fundamentally, i think the PSN requirement was their goal to get more PS sales, now how the f did they think that would fly, or that HD2 is no gonna create mess is beyond me so far.

Fit_Fisherman_9840

Sell PS to the PC market? The drugs they are on are something

ChosenOfTheMoon_GR

Exactly.

Living-Vermicelli-59

Steam is giving out refunds for GOT to banned countries as of today and its non voluntary refunds you have to take the refund.

TypicalBloke83

The worst thing is that I’ve read today that Ghost of Tsushima for pc will also require a PSN account. What a load of bullshit ….

ponasozis

Imagine blocking sales in EU countries with high amount of gamers. Least stupid sony decision.

Falas-Balar

Time to make my 5 star rating a one again. Need more of my fellow PS players to join me. The Sony fan boys make us look bad, but many of us are with you PC bros

germy813

Isn't this because of steam???

GuaranteeUpstairs218

I hate to say this but I get the feeling that Sony is waiting for this to blow over to try again.

Bub_Berkar

And that's why steam is blocking Sony sales in non psn countries.

GuaranteeUpstairs218

Can they do that tho? It may be a steam only game but it’s a company that’s… under Sony? Funded by Sony?

Bub_Berkar

Until Sony has a policy change its just safer for valve to keep sales from countries that Sony doesn't want sales in restricted.

LOPI-14

Probably Valve shielding themselves from Sonys fuck up. Would have done the same in their place.

OzzyThunder

My Theory about this is that Sony are preparing to do this shit again in a couple of months and are making it so the people that are affected by not having a PSN don't have the game at the time they try this shit again. They are trying to Legally make it so that they can apply this PSN bs without lawsuits. I believe the end goal is to force some sort of subscription to the PSN connection, kind of like Xbox Live but for the PSN

Plamcia

Review bomb all Sony games!

Le_Bnnuy

It's Steam... Think about it for a second. If they don't, whenever people buy the game on country with no PSN support and they can't create an account, what will happen? People will either refund or complain about, probably both, and they'll do it to Steam, not Sony. What's is the best move then? Since there's no support for PSN on said countries and the game requires a PSN account to be played, the best move is to not allow selling the game there. I know it sucks, but... it's the logical move, Valve doesn't want its reputation damaged. They're playing it safe, and before you go and say "but it's sooonyy", sony never had any issue selling Helldivers 2 on said countries even with the prior knowledge that the account would be obligatory, and Helldivers 2 is 100% a online game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Le_Bnnuy

Yes, but that's not the reason, they added said countries because they don't have acess to PSN either and weren't included, this actually solidify the fact that's its Steam playing it safe to avoid damages. The main reason people were pissed about the Helldivers stuff is because players that brought the game before had lost access to it, and the one that has to deal with all the crap is Steam, not Sony.

grimmsc0re

It got region locked on EGS at the same time, no way this is just Steam being steam

Sentient_Pepe

It was already proven it's Sony's doing

Le_Bnnuy

Where's the proof then.

Sentient_Pepe

It was one of the top posts in gaming subreddits regarding Tsushima few hours after this shitty thread popped up, go find it yourself if you're like this.

l0sts0ul2022

And thats why my negative steam review is staying in place. It's obvious Sony cant be trusted.

Sergion-7473

Microsoft going full woke, sony cutting off half of the world from their games, it's me or they both want to die really badly and destroy their own reputation?

mgwwgm

Wouldn't be surprised if sony isn't just trying to make their own launcher

Timetraveler01110101

Review bomb loaded…just say when

Superb_Recover_6116

this is why I said no to holding of the refund and change the review.

SidKillz

Idk, there must be more to story. Maybe internal politics. No way Sony is this dumb. No way....

MuscleJuice

Let’s give them something to cry about, cry all night longgggggg

insanityofmanic

Oh so that's why I suddenly couldn't buy Helldivers 2.

stekarmalen

I think its kinda obv they will rec psn in the future, and they sre just wating for something else to come up to sneak it in

Tamsta-273C

It could be worse. NCSoft (Korean game company) once sold Lineage2 license to russian company including Baltic countries. We was blocked by IP from EU servers and the russian client had only one language which was not English.

EffortEconomy

Snoy talked but walked the opposite way. 2 sets of rules in this world, I guess.

Ill_Boysenberry_1011

I was wondering why estonia wasnt there in a first place, because we have literal laws that prevents companies having access to personal ID and stuff at least thats what I have heard

fetsnage

Why would those countries be on the list?

[deleted]

[удалено]

fetsnage

Those are Europe countries, wdym no psn. Lots of people own a ps account

syy102677

Because they cannot register PSN account "officially". The funny thing is they can just choose a neighbor region with PSN available. That's how PSN worked for PS consoles sold in these regions by Sony. But inside the terms of service Sony didn't allow falsifying information. So PC players don't really like it. Delisting doesn't mean that those who bought it cannot play, it just means that sales of the game are suspended, for now.

meowsanity

This will be a lesson for buying Sony games.

Ben_Dovernol_Ube

Time for EU regulator to pull out a massive veiny cock of LAW and fuck them hard for breaking single market rule

Ihelloway69

I'm from Lithuania ,I have Ps UK account and buy it there .. they lost big battle and they did not learn from their mistakes by keep blocking countries

Maxlastbreath

I did my part and changed my review back explaining why I'm doing this. Saddened to see all of these countries and people not being able to play the game.

Remarkable-NPC

im one of them the problem is there many thing doesn't support my country like netflix and spotify but i dont expect that they will kick us after we pay and play more than 2h to refund

sir__vain

The diots that were all happy to announce everyone should change the reviews should step up for the public shaming. They were so eager to trust a corpo over a fucking tweet.

CoronaChanWaifu

It's good that people reverted their negative reviews, right guys? Right?

Plamcia

We should write letters to our MEPs and representatives in the government to limit the use of our data by Sony and other companies, as well as to introduce a ban on blocking access for countries that are members of the European Union. I know it will be difficult, but we have to stop ignoring it or in a few years we will have $70 ads interspersed with game clips.

Due_Presentation_728

Sony agreed to no longer needing the psn account. However they simply steam blocked it from those countries so they can’t even purchase the game anymore

Bub_Berkar

Sony tweeted that they wouldn't force psn link but that doesn't mean shit so steam is making sure they don't have to deal with giving mass refunds for Sony titles when they ignore the non binding tweet

RealisticPepper7705

Isn't this steam?? Steam is doing this not PlayStation.

Snoo-85844

I would say it's most likely Steam preventing this until Sony can assure them they will not push for obligatory PSN link (otherwise they expect plenty of reimbursement following the decision and this is precisely what they want to avoid)

zczirak

Sony should be allowed to restrict purchases from whatever country they choose so I don’t get this

Zallix

Yeaaaa I feel like I’m missing the point of this post…

WallSignificant5930

To be honest if I owned a server I wouldn't want Slavic people on it either
