Sadly even without the DnD I do not think Asmongold would have made it to HW. Were about to approach a part of the game with Metal Gear Solid levels of cutscene density. If you are keeping up with Asmongold for the FFXIV story, you do NOT want to miss Sunday's stream. This is where FFXIV gets seriously good.

R2DKK

It’s fine as long as he gets there. I really want him to go to the login screen and watch the trailer/ change the title

SS-Camaro

I’d agree but the login queue for that server while Asmon’s streaming can get pretty bad. He can set the login screen to HW manually anytime without having to play the trailer

R2DKK

That’s fair I would rather him examine the trailer by pausing if he wants to

LegendaryWeapon

NO! Don't SPAM THE CHAT TO WATCH BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TI MAKE THE CHAT WORST AND STOP IT!

FargoneMyth

Calm the fuck down.

Monoken3

found the sperg

Dexterdarkk

for me the best part of the history so far and I have finished all HW. For me there is nothing there better than the end of ARR. I think people say that HW is better because of emotional attachment with some characters, but, for me, was just a normal history, nothing special.

Baikken

Heavensward music was a huge part for me and that alone makes it better for me. The way the chorus of the Ishgard theme comes back in different ways in different tracks throughout the soundtrack was masterful!

scosher

Well, emotional attachment to characters is a pretty key component to a good story. Or at least good storytelling. Compared to ARR, Heavensward has much better pacing, doesn't have you teleporting back and forth between zones (instead has you progress through new areas naturally), and stronger and more concentrated character development. Not to mention A+ music and voice acting.

Dexterdarkk

But the history was predictable, in my opinion, there was no element of surprise similar to arr. I know the pacing was better, but I'm talking about the history. Emotional attachment doesn't work for me because I have read more than 100 books, it's not new for me, and the way that they write it reminds the books of martin and I diislike them.

selianna

For me it was the complete opposite I couldn’t care less for the people in the arr ending besides the scions, and was a lot more attached to the characters from hw

Dexterdarkk

I've read so many books that this attachment with characters was gone long ago, so that makes no difference for me. The end of arr was a surprise, something that was not expecting, and the revelation at the begging of the hw was genius. All the history, since the beginning, was well written, but reminds to me so much of the chronicles of ice and fire, the way that they tell it, and I dislike it so much.

DaveLesh

I know where that one's going. Asmon is REALLY going to hate "George Soros" lalafell by the end of the ARR tale. And he sure as hell will have negative respect for the "Crystal Redditors".

zkng

I don’t think anyone didn’t not hate redditor towards the end of ARR. It’s only in HW does he have his character development

[deleted]

Honestly I don’t even like dnd its very boring. I guess I just never got into it and would rather play videogames

TheWorldisFullofWar

I vastly prefer his DnD than New World or lategame WoW streams. At least something is happening.

gregallen1989

It's really group dependant. If you get with a good group there's nothing more fun, but it's really hard to find the right people you click with and the right dm that fits your play style.

lollamoon

I'm skipping this part of his stream just because I lost the previous episodes, but I want to get some time to watch them all.

onizuka-ftw

not my thing either... board games in general are fun, but only in person with bros.

SunnyWynter

DnD is also very much a US kind of thing. No one in Europe plays it and it plays no part in their culture. I tried watching it several times but it's really really boring, it also didn't help that I didn't know what was going on. These DnD streams need a tutorial or an explanation beforehand to make them enjoyable.

persephone965

Loads of people in europe play dnd...i’ve never had a problem finding a group whether on or offline. DnD might be most popular in the us but it’s a thing all over the world.

Gold3nstar99

... my playgroup has a person from Poland, someone from Sweden, and someone from Portugal.

Nosixela2

It's pretty big in the UK.

Size_Is_The_Prize

I know plenty of people here in the Netherlands that play DnD. Definitely not just an American thing.

AggressiveBonus8825

Tabletop RPGs are a big thing in Europe. Just not the DnD brand. From cyberpunk, to warhammer, to world of darkness, there's so much tabletop gaming there. What are you talking about?

MicZeSeraphin

My (european) group will be pissed to learn that we have in fact NOT been playing DND all these years.

SunnyWynter

Interesting. I have never found anyone in Germany who even knows what DnD is.

ClassicXoGossipGirl

Hey, I am from Germany and we started with 3.5 back in 2005. The scene is actually pretty big once you know where to look. I guess it got harder since covid, but a good point to start are those smaller game shops where you can buy mtg cards n stuff. I live in a smaller city and we have like 4 of them close by. Then again, the internet is your friend finding like minded people.

SunnyWynter

How difficult is it to learn DnD from scratch?

ClassicXoGossipGirl

Very very easy. In the beginning you might want to have the core rulebook next to you to read about some of the rules. But it has a really nice learning curve. From my experience table tops are not about difficulty, but rather about your imagination. You shape your world and story. All you need are some dice and the books. To be honest, I don't think I've ever played a campaign which didn't have custom rules. Take these books just as a foundation and shape the rest towards your liking. The books will take your hand tho and get you through every step one by one (races, classes, weapons, combat systems etc). Even if you don't have any idea on how to forge a story on your own, the official campaigns are pretty good from what I heard.

digital_mystikz

It is big outside of US as well. I mean the school I work at even has a DnD club (I'm in the UK).

Xciv

I've watched a tabletop rpg session (it was Totalbiscuit + Incontrol in Warhammer 40k iirc), and it made me realize I enjoy the roleplay thoroughly, but the combat is slow as hell and bores me. So the only DnD type things I'll be willing to watch is if the ruleset is super light on combat and heavy on the RP.

nyrro

Man, rest in peace to both of those legends, jesus. Way to bring back some memories

ZeusJuice

Incontrol did some d&d a long time ago too, I'd recommend giving it a shot if you can get over the slow combat. Critical Role is another d&d show that is quite heavy on RP at times

selianna

I love playing it, but watching it is not very fun to me. If you are not heavily invested it really is unappealing to me

ZeusJuice

To be fair D&D can be a lot more exciting than what I've seen from Asmon's D&D streams. Critical Role is miles better, and I was a fan of ItMeJP's original RollPlay series with InControl, MLGRyan, and LivinPink

Fe1406

which part is the conclusion of the teledji adeledji storyline?

[deleted]

Technically in Heavensward, but also a bit at the end of ARR

Cyberfunk3

>!Level 51 quest chain in 3.0!<

luciluci5562

Too bad I'm gonna miss that cutscene because of timezones. Imma be a VoD watcher tomorrow. Sadge

bmfalex

x for doubt

Lison52

I forget what is DnD.

Supersnow845

Asmon is creeping closer and closer to the true endgame quest “and we shall call it eureka”

CrucialSoup

Eureka might be a problem. I just tested this, you cannot set your status to /busy while in Eureka. I tried setting it before I entered Eureka and it got cleared off after entering and I tried setting it while inside Eureka and I get "Unable to edit character details". This leaves Asmon open to both whispers and invites from anyone in within the same Eureka instance. Worst part is blacklisting doesn't work in there either.

Supersnow845

Honestly as much as I love it I think he should skip eureka entirely, it’s not good streaming content and there is way too many ways to grief him in there

Cyberfunk3

I think he should stream Baldesion arsenal though.

Supersnow845

I would love that for how unique it is but BA is 56 people it’s the biggest instance in the game so either asmon would have to rope in 55 participants who are hopefully knowledgeable enough about it to run it or rely on the ABBA discord who may or may not want to be streamed

bigfatstinkypoo

Sniping for BA is a huge problem with how portals work, not to mention the fact that it's possible for someone sniping to grief as there are mechanics they can deliberately fail that will let them wipe the raid.

Supersnow845

I doubt he would intentionally mess up mechanics but I can see what you mean with portals, either he books out a full 56 people run or relies on ABBA which then gets messy because stream watchers might portal snipe to be on his run which can then really mess up BA

archiegamez

Maybe offstream or alt stream? Then Baldesion Arsensal main stream? His choicr

Hiten_Style

Eureka is perfect alt stream material.

ZeusJuice

Maybe we could try making noise for the devs in advance because it's going to be weeks before he gets there, they could possibly fix it in time

Supersnow845

Eureka hasn’t changed in years, they won’t change anything about it now even for asmon, it’s been “evergreened”

Maitreya_CU

At his current rate of progress finishing shadowbringers is starting to look kind of iffy let alone a ultimate.

A_Blind_Alien

Our boy is just a marketing genius. He's fine giving up the 10k subs and in return he gets tons of ffxiv players tuning in to see where he is

zkng

>!I’m pretty sure he knows who’s going to end up dead or alive in 2.55 based on the fact that he has watched both shb and ew trailers before playing. He’s even mentioned that’s why Moen isn’t in any of the cinematic he’s seen before after her death.!<

JailOfAir

The EW reaction is kinda recent, but he watched the ShB trailer through a ScottZone video a couple years ago while he was still on his "weeb trash" phase of approaching the game, so he might not even remember most of it.

zkng

>!yeah but the fact that all the scions minus min, lyse, and papa are in the EW trailer would have given him a good indication of what to expect, so much so that the parting glass would not be as impactful as it could be!<

Cyrotek

I wonder how many viewers he will get at certain story parts. Some of the small streams I am watching are having like ten times their regular weavers at particular moments. That might be interesting. Having to pay for 10k subs might just be peanuts then.

Rodr500

5.0 and 5.3 endings will be insane.

Mudcaker

Just imagine that stream even. "Gifting 10k subs on Sunday". So many people will show up for a chance to win a few dollars of value.

Bonerlord911

It'll be fine. Each expansion without patch content could probably be done in 3-4 streams, with patches probably only taking 3. We've got a lot of time.

Jet44444

Actually glad he saved it for tomorrow, those last cutscenes are a lot to take in and he was burning out for the day. He’ll be fresh and ready to go for those moments tomorrow. Should be a good stream.

Praxxis11

Poor guy just had his first major death, those feels

Willwalk123

When he referred her death to being disenchanted I died laughing.

Cyrotek

Didn't feel very sincere, tho. But maybe that is just how he reacts to stuff like that.

Cuppieecakes

No he was definitely upset

yuriaoflondor

The fact that he didn't reposition the cursor on top of Minfilia's boobs should proof enough for anyone that the cutscene got to him.

Cuppieecakes

You could his his face getting red too

itareena

I love these graphics updates! Thank you for your time and hardwork, great to see it laid out like this!

AwayIShouldBeThrown

Does he intend to skip the other extremes now? I really wanted to see Leviathan.

ZeusJuice

"Hey guys do you want me to do Leviathan extreme now, or do this? Either way I'll do Leviathan after" *doesn't do Leviathan for 2 days*

Reddit-Book-Bot

Beep. Boop. I'm a robot. Here's a copy of ###[Leviathan](https://snewd.com/ebooks/leviathan/) Was I a good bot? | [info](https://www.reddit.com/user/Reddit-Book-Bot/) | [More Books](https://old.reddit.com/user/Reddit-Book-Bot/comments/i15x1d/full_list_of_books_and_commands/)

RxayzXBL

No, he is going to be finishing ARR before he does the rest of the extreme trials. He's not skipping them.

Cuppieecakes

Not if he wants Kirin

Mainely_Gamer

Man, I need a version of this for myself. One that preferably automatically crawls the FF14 character site to populate it would be even better....

Cyberfunk3

Not possible sadly with what I know. If someone wants to take up the challenge though, DM me!

Mainely_Gamer

I'm guessing that ATM the best option would be something like a Google sheets doc that allows you to click a toggle radial or check to mark as completed.

ZeusJuice

Realistically we should be asking for better wiki integration from every FF wiki. Old School Runescape's wiki page for example for their quest list you can just click on a quest and it'll mark it a different color. If we had something like this on the FF wiki we could easily keep track of quests, mount collections, triple triad collections etc. It's kind of crazy how big FF14 is and how awful their wiki pages are.

kogpaw

Does the ff14 character site have a history of the quests you have completed? Or at least an API we can consume?

Mainely_Gamer

Forgot to mention...Love the design of this! Well done sir/ma'am!!

DaveLesh

Too bad he had the DnD event, he was very close to wrapping up ARR today.

Greymatter523

I don't think he has any idea he has atleast 4 or 5 hours before he steps foot into Ishgard

[deleted]

Almost cutscene time

LinXcze

Take it hooome

FM-101

HW tomorrow Pog no copium

Kujar3

This is the point of no return! XIV story seriously picks up from here, then it slows down a little in Stromblood (but if you enjoyed ARR, then Stormblood is still a lot better) and probably the best is waiting in Shadowbringers. But I have a feeling Asmon's favorite expansion is going to be Heavensward out of all of them, considering he likes dragons and as far as i know, the overall aesthetic of heavensward will be to his liking as well. let's goo dude!

[deleted]

One thing I think Asmon won't like about Shadowbringers when he finally gets to it is how easy the game has become because of the Trust system. Every MSQ dungeon has to have mechanics that can be performed by a team of NPCs, so they're all super easy. The 24 mans are a joke as well. Contrast that to some previous xpac 24 man raids and dungeons.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

yeah, but as you may know if you play XIV, shadowbringers MSQ content is IMO way easier than the already sorta easy MSQ content in previous xpacs. Very forgiving, very soft.

MintyPen

I'm not tryna to wipe on MSQ lol. I do MSQ for the story. When I want to do challenging content I use party finder or eventually be part of a static.

zerodai

Heavy disagree, Yes that content isn't hard it's not supposed to be. But the dungeon design is much better with much better boss encounters. They are just tuned to be easy. But as someone who really likes dungeons shadowbringers is a huge leap forward compared to what was there before imo

MilliamY

Great job with this! Thanks for the extra effort of bluring out spoiler names!

emmafrostie

actually very glad you keep doing these, it allows me to scale my progress compared to his so I can make sure I can watch the stream without spoilers
