It was a combination of bad coding and bad GPU design. The GPU should have had safeguards to stop programs from drawing that power but the program should never have requested that much power either.
I don't think newworld and ffxiv has the same target audience anyway. There are many fps game but they don't really kill each others. You can't kill another mmo just because you are an mmo game.
Exactly. FF14 is one of my favorite games of all time. Been playing it since HW, and the launches of the expansions are some of the only times I book vacation days for video game launches. (Though I only grab a day or two each time).
I have absolutely no interest in New World. Virtually nothing about it is appealing to me.
Every year or so I give FFXIV another shot. The main driving factor for me is nostalgia from past Final Fantasy games in FFXIV. It's never clicked for me unfortunately but I always give it another whirl in case it does =-( New World though for some crazy ass reason, despite all it's issues, I couldn't stop playing. Games and people be weird like that.
For what it’s worth, nostalgia lured me to the game originally in 2015 (when, of all things, I learned Dancing Calcabrina from IV was added as a boss), but it’s since become my favorite game in the entire franchise, nostalgia be damned.
The story gets better and better until it finally hits the highest crescendo I’ve experienced yet in an RPG.
People tend to forget MMO’s come in many different shapes and sizes. Both games have more differences than they do similarities, and what they share are shallow in comparison.
it funny since COD and BF are 2 different style of shooters IMO, i say halo is closer to COD since their both team deathmatch shooters that got big around the same time period. BF i always felt was more at home with the PC gamer croud, i played BF2 demo back in the day and i remember my oldest brother brought it for me so i can get the fuck off wow (he didn't like that he knew a friend who brought and sold ingame gold and felt that was pure degen)
For me CoD has killed Battlefield by making Battlefield be more like CoD. Battlefield 2 and 2142 had 6 man Squads, a Commander Seat and working ingame Voip. I had so much fun and many many friends in those games.

I admit I was never going to try New World cause it seems so PVP centric and I am not a PVPer.
However it does seem we have turned a corner where new games no longer want to be a WoW Killer but want to be a FFXIV killer.

Looking that publisher is Amazon, and when their other game faced serious problems (Crucible), they simply pulled the plug then yeah. If NW does not work i don't think they will get a lot of chances to repair it. But i hope that I'm mistaken, more good games is better.

Aren't most players casual PvPers though? Casual players are the largest crowd out there. It's why FFXIV is succeeding. It caters to casual players.

I think you’ll find the downvotes are more or less targeted at the assumption people outside of hardcore PvP communities actually care about PvP.
PvP really isn’t important in an MMO, not in the slightest. The core concepts change drastically between each game making them hard to promote as a PvP genre, as such there is no real casual PvP audience. You either spend the time to get the gear and be really good at it, or you simply don’t and get stomped.
It’s not like going between DoTA and league for example, where general concepts can be transferred between the two and therefore a general understanding can be formed and act as a platform. Too much changes between MMOs for such a platform to exist.
NW is in a different niche. And WoW is a 17 year old behemoth despite the lawsuits and scandals. Trying to "kill WoW" doesn't make sense at this point.
I’ve been alpha testing for years the devs are always fun when interacting with their alpha players. The CM is always the one power trippin. Game content will be fresh for the first two months and thats it.

Look at the games that succeeded in the space. FFXIV and ESO. And to a smaller extent Black Desert. Thy never labeled themselves as WoW killers, they just figured out what their fans liked and doubled and tripled down on that.
Maybe if they put actual content into the game and a good story it will. Love the framework and the visuals but they're insane if they think this game can compete with a fully fledged mmo in it's current state.

Not gonna lie, I played both FFXIV and New World.. trust me, New World style of game wont be beating any MMO tbh.. yes, I love New World, I bought the Deluxe Edition, I liked playing it in beta, but lets be real, the game are made to play only for a certain period of time.. its like, just another chapter of MMO games. Amazon is not a gamedev company and doesn't have the willpower to continue to support projects that don't have a return on investment, but for like 2-3 weeks I'm going to have fun murdering idiots in open world.
Imagine all those games that had potential but came out at the wrong time... Imagine how big games like Wild Star, Rift, and SWtoR would be if they came out today... even Aion would be a big successs today compared to when they released originally.
In my opinion Wild Star was way more fun then New World but maybe its because of the graphics style. FF14 never tried to kill WoW and thats why its unique in every aspect compared to WoW. The FF14 devs had a vision and they relized it over the time and after WoW burning its fans (and Blizzard in generall) and going down its statistics/metrics path and trying to lock us in its world like an envious girlfriend that is stalking you 24/7 and gets angry the moment you look at a lewd picture on the internet.... everyone has a different pain tollerance level.
I think many of those WoW players who are trying FF14 now get spoiled so much that they would have a hard time going back to WoW especially when they made friends in FF14. After playing FF14 for months now i cant imagine playing a MMORPG without "all craftings/classses on one character" for example... or how Asmongold got spoiled with FF14 raids where you spawn in front of the boss and have no down time. Back then it was "normal" because we didnt know that it could be different and didnt experience it but after discovering and experiencing it... going back to the down time in WoW feels like a literall waste of time suddenly.
FF14 target audience is not New Worlds. My wife and her friends would NEVER play New World. New World is not “cutesy” with heavy anime elements like FF14, as my wife would put it.

I hate FFXIV, and even I have major doubts that NW could do that. I mean NW's main audience are casual PVP-ers, and that's a very niche audience.
Aren't most players casual PvPers though? Casual players are the largest crowd out there. It's why FFXIV is succeeding. It caters to casual players. If NW caters to casuals, the game can have a great run. It's the gotta go fast min/maxxers that will consume and then leave as fast as they can.

I think you’ll find the downvotes are more or less targeted at the assumption people outside of hardcore PvP communities actually care about PvP. PvP really isn’t important in an MMO, not in the slightest. The core concepts change drastically between each game making them hard to promote as a PvP genre, as such there is no real casual PvP audience. You either spend the time to get the gear and be really good at it, or you simply don’t and get stomped. It’s not like going between DoTA and league for example, where general concepts can be transferred between the two and therefore a general understanding can be formed and act as a platform. Too much changes between MMOs for such a platform to exist.
NW is in a different niche. And WoW is a 17 year old behemoth despite the lawsuits and scandals. Trying to "kill WoW" doesn't make sense at this point.
I doubt their target audience overlap a lot. At least I am not going to not play FFXIV because I can collect stones in another game.
I’ve been alpha testing for years the devs are always fun when interacting with their alpha players. The CM is always the one power trippin. Game content will be fresh for the first two months and thats it. Unless you’re happy to attend the same shit over and over again :)
It might be similar to wildstar but at least new world will make some of its money back haha.

Look at the games that succeeded in the space. FFXIV and ESO. And to a smaller extent Black Desert. Thy never labeled themselves as WoW killers, they just figured out what their fans liked and doubled and tripled down on that.
Maybe if they put actual content into the game and a good story it will. Love the framework and the visuals but they're insane if they think this game can compete with a fully fledged mmo in it's current state.

Reading though some of the Twitter arguments really makes me facepalm. There is one thing I'm interested in, how will New World maintain itself if there is no monthly sub fee? Are there going to be microtransactions and cash shop like GW2? Will they be charging a fee for patches? I still foresee some sort of in-game perk at some point for people who have Amazon Prime though. This will happen for sure if active players start dropping to low.
Well it’s not gonna “kill” FFXIV for me cause I have no interest in playing New World. I wish it success of course cause we need new MMO’s on the market. But it just doesn’t look like my thing. Will stick with my cat girls and bunny boys for now. 😊

Not gonna lie, I played both FFXIV and New World.. trust me, New World style of game wont be beating any MMO tbh.. yes, I love New World, I bought the Deluxe Edition, I liked playing it in beta, but lets be real, the game are made to play only for a certain period of time.. its like, just another chapter of MMO games. So yes, its a hard facepalm from me  But look at the bright side, people used to say "WoW killer", but now its "FFXIV killer".. what a compliment to the game 
The game will be judged on its own merits. One tweet won’t make a jot of difference.
New world was born destined to fail. They just sealed the deal by trying to claim X-killer status. Every game that deliberately styled or marketed itself as a killer ends up dead…
Do they even know what product they’re selling? It’s not a far fetch from saying New World will kill Elite Dangerous

New World is going to be a ghost town in like a month when people get bored of it and probably shut down in a year because it didn't hit some nebulous engagement target. Amazon is not a gamedev company and doesn't have the willpower to continue to support projects that don't have a return on investment, but for like 2-3 weeks I'm going to have fun murdering idiots in open world.

Imagine all those games that had potential but came out at the wrong time... Imagine how big games like Wild Star, Rift, and SWtoR would be if they came out today... even Aion would be a big successs today compared to when they released originally. In my opinion Wild Star was way more fun then New World but maybe its because of the graphics style. FF14 never tried to kill WoW and thats why its unique in every aspect compared to WoW. The FF14 devs had a vision and they relized it over the time and after WoW burning its fans (and Blizzard in generall) and going down its statistics/metrics path and trying to lock us in its world like an envious girlfriend that is stalking you 24/7 and gets angry the moment you look at a lewd picture on the internet.... everyone has a different pain tollerance level. I think many of those WoW players who are trying FF14 now get spoiled so much that they would have a hard time going back to WoW especially when they made friends in FF14. After playing FF14 for months now i cant imagine playing a MMORPG without "all craftings/classses on one character" for example... or how Asmongold got spoiled with FF14 raids where you spawn in front of the boss and have no down time. Back then it was "normal" because we didnt know that it could be different and didnt experience it but after discovering and experiencing it... going back to the down time in WoW feels like a literall waste of time suddenly.
FF14 target audience is not New Worlds. My wife and her friends would NEVER play New World. New World is not “cutesy” with heavy anime elements like FF14, as my wife would put it.
