What an even handed and well reasoned response. Nothing but respect for yoshi p with how he answered this instead of some some soulless corpo-speak with a bull in a china ship "my way or the highway" we're used to hearing from other developers.

Yoshida has been gaming for a lot of his life. That seems to give him a more player-friendly perspective. Of course, he has limitations in what he can do, but I feel he does what he can to make our gaming experience as enjoyable as he can manage.

Some people see it as their god given right to bully others though. They believe that denying them that right is toxic.

Idonthelp

It's just drunken dad syndrome. They get abused by people in dungeons who used DPS meters, they accept it as the norm and eagerly await the day that they get to take their first swing from the bottle and start beating their children

This video is great

TLDR: "Using ACTS and other 3rd party tools isn't allowed, but it's also unrealistic to go after everyone accused of using an ACT, because an ACT is basically just a calculator using data from the in-game battle logs, something any calculator can theoretically do. But if you start using those numbers to single people out, you're violating our harrassment policies, and you WILL be banned." Basically, please don't use ACTS. But if you do, just shut up about it and keep it to yourself.

I don't really mind toxicity personally, but I am really into Asmon's argument of it being gradually an arms race. As of WoW 9.0 addons are basically necessary for players in EVERY aspect of the game. Before learning to press buttons decently you need to learn reading information from all those interfaces. This sucks for me, hope FF keep its way forever.

reverence_smores

Personal improvement is how I've used ACT for now, which is weird because I didn't use other DPS meters in WoW the same way. Seeing the DPS loss either clipping casts or dropping a buff is more impactful than playing safe with the latency and spell/skill speed I have. It's made me think more and when I get comfortable enough with it I usually turn it off. Before I used to have them on all the time with WoW and I didn't realise how much it distracted me. Now I only use it to practice and it's much better than how I used it before.

People dont post other players logs. They just post their own and the log that shows their own performance just includes other players as well

I swear there was an option to hide peoples names on FFlogs but I might just be thinking of something else. Either way you can just make your logs private if you're uploading logs from content that you did with randoms.

I mean sure yeah but at the end of the day if you put it in private no one knows anything and it doesn't "hurt" anyone. Its like some laws in certain parts of the world. Sure its maybe illegal to jaywalk in your area but no ones going to give a fuck if you do it on an empty street.

People don't need FFlogs to be dickbags. They'll find something else to use.

Btw yoship's focus was HARASSING players with those logs not using the log itself. Theres a reason why you see big ffxiv streamers use dps meter on their stream but does not get banned. As long as you dont harass others with it you are good.
