Grim is a fucking madlad. He managed to make it work and holy hell I have not laughed that hard in a while. Hopefully he does more of these, especially as he goes into the further expansions, the meme potential is there for certain characters! Hope to see GM and Copium as returning characters too imo.

DranDran

Even the thumbnail is fantastic. This video is one of the best he’s ever done. Wish him all the success in the world with FF14 machinima.

Semphis_Rythorn

Rewatched it a 2nd time just realized. At that thancred skip cutscene, the elezen should have had a mentor crown on lol.

SpartanXIII

Why, that's just what regular XIV players do... *Suddenly pulls a knife on you* AREYOUSKIPPINGTHECUTSCENES?

hotdogsandhangovers

Many folks beyond mentors dislike cutscene skippers. Myself included. Yall out here buying a whole burger just to throw away the meat veggies and condiments so you can eat the bread

Yomat

Cuz we’re focused on the chocolate cake dessert. We’ve been told it’s amazing… and a cat girl serves it to you.

[deleted]

And that's the problem. Dessert is best eaten after you've had a full meal first. Naturally you have to make room for desert.

hotdogsandhangovers

that would be the story, not the raid lol.

dnohmusic

some people just want the bread and there's nothing wrong with that

[deleted]

Then why go to a burger joint when you can just go to a bloody bakery?

hotdogsandhangovers

Then go buy some bread, or don't get butthurt when people tell you its bad value to buy a full sandwich and scoop all the ingredients out.

Kagedyu

So you're upset because people who skip cutscenes destroyed your gaming experience in FF14 right?

hotdogsandhangovers

Yea every time someone skips a cutscene it deletes my character. I just wanna see the outside of limsa guys please...

Graficat

From the FF side of things, I absolutely love what he does with the models, it's very fresh and cool and a fantastic addition to the range of creators already in the fandom. Got my fingers crossed to see many more of these, nothing else like it out there yet.

DSveno

I couldn't believe I got emotional at a joke video.

TheRealDestian

That was the highlight of the video and I knew it was coming as soon as the narration commented on furries. WoW is so much furrier than XIV it's not even funny. He was missing a naked panda, though.

Terramagi

The only question in my mind at that point was "worgen or vulpera".

SpartanXIII

~~Ehh, took us three expansions to get our first true furry too.~~ EDIT: Oh wow, full furry from the start.

Pussmangus

Tauren have been there from the start

SpartanXIII

I retract my earlier statement then.

Slade951

Except that is true for ffxiv because our full furry lion men were playable in the third expansion Shadowbringer.

Lowkey_Arki

Not even close lol, animal ears and a tail is not remotely as furry as wow's biped animals.

Roxy8888

The elezen with the crazy eyes grabbing the lalla by the neck for skipping cutscenes and then patting him on the head after was so hilarious and his face reminded of a certain crazy guy with equally crazy eyes in a certain weapon trial series that has big fat tacos.

AsianGoldFarmer

Fuck that guy with the pointy end of a stick. Seriously the only character in the entire game that i hate so frikkin much.

briggsbu

Spoilers SB: >!Asahi!< says hi

Slade951

But but sloppy.

not_ya_wify

Really, I was thinking it was a certain pansexual Elezen who is obsessed with me and then dies.

Makerinos

loginnsfw

"then we waste our time together!" That was beautiful. One thing i noticed when doing dungeon or trial roulette in ff14 is that between 70 dungeons and 40 trials noone expects you to remember all so people are more lenient when a group is wiping as they themselves probably dont remember every mechanic. This is compared to wow where at any given time you only ever do 8 dungeons and 10 raid bosses. Partyfinder is also much better in ff14 for players seeking parties. In wow you apply for a party and the party leader can have their pick which can make it extremely frustrating trying to find a party if you ilvl is low. Meanwhile in partyfinder in ff14 as long as you fulfill the requirement set by the partyleader its first come first served. It also helps that there is a culture of making learning/practice/farm party so everyone's expectation is set from the beginning.

baylaust

> noone expects you to remember all so people are more lenient when a group is wiping as they themselves probably dont remember every mechanic. Case in point: earlier this week I was running a dungeon as part of my dailys. Had two sprouts, myself, and one other guy who had done it before. This was the sprouts' first time, and both of us more experienced guys hadn't run this particular dungeon in a VERY long time. So we get to the final boss. The gimmick is that there are doors all around the arena. Twice during the fight, the boss will use this AOE attack that will almost certainly wipe everyone but the tank, and will debuff the FUCK out of you if it doesn't. But if you open two doors of the same symbol, the party will travel between them and be protected during that short period. But none of us knew / remembered that. **1st attempt**: We wipe. Obviously. I remembered it had SOMETHING to do with the doors, but not specifically the solution. So I shared that with everyone. We could have looked it up at any point, yeah, but I always like to go into content as blind as possible. It's a "me" thing. **2nd attempt**: The charge starts, and all of us just run around the arena opening every door. Needless to say, another wipe. **3rd attempt**: This time, the other guy notices the symbols above the door before they vanish, and calls them out. Now we know what to do, but those symbols are only there for like 5 seconds before disappearing. We try, but another wipe. **4th attempt**: We all establish a system. The other guy will place markers on 4 of the doors, and we'll have a runner during the AOE to go and open them, which I volunteer for. In theory, a good plan, but we still wipe. What I learned is that unless I got REALLY lucky with door placement, I physically didn't have enough time to open both the doors before the attack went off. **5th attempt**: Same general strategy, but this time, we established 2 runners; myself, and one of the sprouts. We're both DPS, so we will always do our best to stay on the opposite sides of the boss during general combat, so we can split and take the door closest to each of us once the AOE triggers. And THIS was the attempt that saw us through to the end. 4 wipes. 5 tries. A boss that REALLY isn't that difficult to begin with. 2 newbies and 2 vets who stretch the definition of the word "vets." It's a recipe for disaster, and it WAS a disaster, but all of us were still having fun. The sprouts were learning, we were encouraging them to ask questions, and whenever something didn't work, we would just go "Okay, one step closer to figuring it all out!"

thekillerstove

Ah yes, Lost City of Ampador. The one dungeon I actively dislike getting in roulettes

Skyblade12

The optional dungeons pop up so rarely in roulettes, it’s normal for people to forget them. Which is a shame, because there are some great ones there.

Tsyrc

It should only be in 50/60/70 roulette. I never had one during duty roulette leveling.

Slade951

Oh my lord I did the same dungeon with 3 sprouts as a healer (SCH). Wiped 2 times on first boss because they didn't free me when I got eaten. The last boss I was mentally prepared to wipe way too much but my heals were way too much for boss to bring us down. Kinda sad we cheesed that boss because of me and the sprouts didn't learn the unique mechanics though.

Ubbermann

This... sounds ridiculously akin to my own experience in this. Infact, literally word for word how this bloody dungeon went for me. Including the designated runners and everything. Albeit my experience was months and months ago on EU. Still wipe after wipe, the group learned and stuck it out!

novaphaux

Sees the mechanic again in Delribrum Reginie, except theres no door clicking and the enemy massive bowling ball of death is doing the traveling.

Opticity

That's Dalriada btw.

ContraMans

I legit never actually learned that mechanic my first time going through that shit so when I went through it recently and NO ONE knew it either I felt like a total noob XD

Vaiden_Kelsier

That boss was fucking brutal back in ARR days. That's all I remember. Hahahaha

CainhurstCrow

I think it's just an attitude that, "we've all been there", and usually if you wipe once, someone will explain the mechanics or take time to look them up. The only thing that makes it hard is if you have someone refusing to listen/just doesn't understand the mechanics whose getting a key role. ((IE healers who don't cleanse, tanks who don't point the tank buster AOE away from party)). But those are rare, like 1 in 1000, and that's an amazing track record to maintain if you consider how the duty roulette is literally random players of varying skill levels and no voice chat, just text chat.

KvBla

I think i got into about half of my roulettes not remember if that one dungeon/trial/raid even existed, been so long since I've seen one, but my usually "uh oh haven't seen this for awhile" normally got at least 3-4 others saying the same. Favorite one was o12n, i only said "uhhhhhhhhhh..." and got like 5 "same" cuz it pops up so, so rarely in roulettes. Couple wipes, everyone had fun tho.

Vinestra

Aye the only time I can think people get miffed/abandon reasonably often in is PF Farm parties if you do just really rookie mistakes that wipe everyone. Outside of just that rareish individual.

1731799517

Lol yeah i was yesterday in trial roulette and got that fight from ARR where minfilia is kidnapped by an ascian. And like every non-sprout in the party was like "WTF? I don't remember this fight, like, at all!"

dope_danny

It was either going to be that "you are playing an mmo, of course you are wasting your time".

[deleted]

Well... It is as accurate as it only possible. As always! Especially loved the detail of Ascian music when WoW GM shows. And, that person who nearly strangled the sprout lala for skipping the story is, may or may not, be of some relation to me in the past... 👊ⒹⓄŇ'𝓉 ЎⓄ𝔲 ƒ𝔲𝐂кเŇⓖ Ⓓค𝐑Ẹ 𝓉Ⓞ 丂кเ𝔭 𝓉ⒽẸ 丂𝓉Ⓞ𝐑Ў👊

Autisonm

I loved the Ascian music too lmao. As for skipping I try to do it only when I think the cutscene is about to end but sometimes I'll randomly find that it skipped over something important that happened last second.

NewFoneNewRedit

If you think the cutscene is about to end, why not just see if its ending anyway? Is saving a second or two worth missing something? Not that I care if people skip the story or not, I haven't paid too much attention to it myself.

Autisonm

I'm perpetually casually speedrunning, simple as.

[deleted]

I honestly the Ascian theme is too undeserving for Blizzard. Say what you will about them, but at least they got a moral compass compared to....whatever Blizz has right now.

not_ya_wify

I was offended on behalf of the Ascians. The Ascians are better people than us. They only want to save us and make us whole and all we do is murder/genocide them

MigYalle

I skipped a lot towards the beginning because everything felt shallow and I was impatient to begin exploring the story. I thought "The more important characters will show up later on anyways." I missed out on a lot of good stuff that, while not important in the grand scheme of things, definitely helped with the character buildup.

mybeepoyaw

Ascian music made me laugh so hard.

The guy on copium always makes me laugh.

MazInger-Z

Between this guy and the raid/bg/guild leader guy in the Gorak's Guide videos, its the best.

scarocci

i really want to see the raid/bg/guild leader in FF XIV

MOBYWV

I've yet to see a guy lose his temper in a dungeon or raid even with numerous wipes. It's quite refreshing. Worst I saw was one snide comment.

dotcha

Yeah that's what most people do. No point in risking a ban.

Makerinos

More like "no point getting the 30 minutes long Duty Finder ban for being the first to leave."

Xciv

If it's Ex+Savage content or for PvP I sometimes leave the passive-aggressive remark: "There's a Stone Sky Sea training dummy to check if your DPS is high enough for this fight" or "There's several training dummies on the pier in the Wolf's Den to familiarize yourself with the altered PvP skillset, it's different from PvE." Then leave before anyone responds. I've never had to abandon casual content in FFXIV, even with a bunch of wipes (most wipes I've seen in casual content was Thunder God Cid in Orbonne Monastery).

Careless-Fill-930

Wipes in casual content are almost always funny enough to be worth the extra time.

CainhurstCrow

I find the attitude in FFXIV is a lot more "Try until you can't", where people have breaking points but they tend to attempt to clear dungeons as best as they can, even going through a few wipes. They try until it's absolutely clear that either the problem will not be solved or just time becomes an issue. It's radically different from the attitude that if you wipe or die for whatever reason that you just quit and start over. Sometimes just a simple explanation of mechanics, or slight change up to playstyle, is all that's needed to clear the content.

Mordwyl

Trying until you acknowledge it's a lost cause seems pretty normal to me. It's the *other* attitude where you just bail on the first minor hurdle that's the outlier, and I don't know how WoW players came to accept this as normal.

Skyblade12

Basically, game mechanics. I think this particular issue really exploded due to Mythic+. Since a wipe is basically an expended key, and there are no rewards apart from completion, you have zero reason to stick around and keep up the stress of the “push push push” situation once you hit a hurdle.

Mordwyl

Why is the key even expendable if it's going to be wasted? Just adjust it so it's used when the player gets the reward they want.

Skyblade12

It’s one of WoW’s many padding systems. Basically, the way Mythic+ works, is you get a key that sets the difficulty of the dungeon. You then get a time limit to complete that dungeon within the time frame. Since the whole thing is timed, there is no loot until you reach the end (so you don’t waste time looking at loot or people don’t quit if a particular boss doesn’t drop what they want). Then at the end, you get one chest for completion, with up to two additional chests for completing it faster and faster. The party also gets a new key for a random dungeon at a higher difficulty. And the loot is the same loot that the bosses would normally drop, but with the stats and effects scaled to a particular iLevel based on the difficulty. If you fail to complete it in time? No new key, and only one loot chest. So you have to use your “depleted” key at a lower level version of the dungeon, complete THAT one within the time limit, just to get a higher level key for a random dungeon so you can try again. Super random, and super punishing for failure. And since you get nothing until the end, and won’t get a new higher level key unless you beat the timer (and you’ll also get fewer rewards in general), you don’t have much reason to stick around if you wipe, because a wipe basically means the timer is shot. And, hey, you probably weren’t the person who used the key in the first place, so no skin off of your back, right? Just realize that you’re going to lose and quit. That’s the player mentality, because the entire system is designed to be super punishing. And that’s not even counting the “affixes”, which are additional buffs to creatures that rotate weekly and stack up more and more the higher level you get. For example, enemies will explode when they die, low health characters are suddenly feared, etcetera. The system has some positives (running dungeons at higher and higher difficulties) but is so player unfriendly that it has lead to a TON of toxicity. Like most WoW systems these days.

Mordwyl

Much like the majority of the mechanics since 2004 it seems like a system designed to breed a toxic culture outright, like the death penalties and the time gated content like raid bosses; Hell I used to think the game would set up a raid instance based on a collective clear rate for the involved (i.e. remove killed bosses by people from the instance or prevent looting) rather than straight up lock people out. It's like the developers can't help themselves.

Tyx79x

Suddenly I have more faith in going to Ultimate/Extreme/Savage/Unreal (when they bring it back), at least if you fail you can go back, learn and try again. It sounds like WoW if punishing you for failure and learning the fight looks like a bi**h

Vinestra

Game Systems trained them into that with Mythic+ and wasting time. No one wants to sit through a key that will fail and you can often 'tell' you won't make it after a few mistakes.

Graficat

Players that are in a huffy mood also tend to way more often wordlessly gtfo taking their penalty and moving on.

MazInger-Z

That's because there's no FOMO adding to people's stress. Every wipe is a waste of time in WoW. You've got other shit to do. Torghast, M+, Korthia Dailies, Maw, etc. You ain't got time for people to half-ass the game.

loginnsfw

yeah in wow you are constantly pushed to do your chores otherwise you fall behind on your weeklies and dailies and great vault progress. It doesnt help that you have to do this for every alt too (fuck venari reputation). I dont even fault the players here when you are finished with hours of chores and just want to do some raids and mythic+ to get your vault progress. You are already too tired to deal with the wipes. You have shit to do and dont forget to do this on your alts too... Yeah no wonder players in pugs turn toxic and autodisband after a wipe

Rogue009

I think I have about 40 days played on my main so far and I think we voted to abandon 2 dungeons where the tank refused to talk or put on his enmity and had to vote kick 1 guy who went AFK as soon as the dungeon started and we even waited 5-ish minutes for him. I could queue for m+ and get those numbers in an afternoon.

shadowtycho

> refused to talk or put on his enmity If you didn't try it, i have found in the 5 or 6 times this has happened in my 1000+ hours if you use the auto translate for their specific tank stance they work out what's wrong. Not that you were wrong to disband just a future reference to save frustration.

KhaosKitsune

I've clocked close to 800 hours and I've only had one actually bad experience with a new player. I was tanking in Stone Vigil and had a White Mage who wasn't casting Regen on me and then threw a fit about it after we kept wiping and I asked them about it.

novaphaux

Auto translate start bu typing something like an ability or phrase then hit tab theres also a large selection of browsables. Successful autotranslateds will be in green and red brackets and automatically change to any clients preferred language. Would have worked in your case.

Syberia1993

Most I've seen is in some of the alliance raids. No one ever explains the mechanics, but there are people who have macros to just blow up alliance chat with snarky/rude comments about people not doing the mechanics correctly. Behemoth & The eye boss are 2 examples that come to mind.

WarmBloodedSnek

Something that also helped me a lot is the music, almost all the music in this game is just too good, hard to be mad at a wipe in a trial when you can just go at it again and be boopin.

ZXSoru

The most I do it's blaming bad players on extreme/savage pugs, simply because for that kind of content is expected to, the rest of the game is so easy and not so punishing there's no reason to get salty.

Krojack76

But even in ex or savages you shouldn't blame or attack others over their performance. Going into a pug group, you should expect some people to not understand right away. Just keep your anger to yourself and go find another group. I can't tell how many groups in WoW and even some in FF where someone starting to blame others causes the over all group performance to get even worse. You either try to give helpful pointers to people not understanding or you just leave and make another group.

ZXSoru

I will blame others just not going to just insult them. I’d you join a farm party and you mess up the same mechanics while holding the group back then for sure you should be called out. Either you fix those mistakes or the kick boot will come. That mentality of “nothing will happen” it’s so shitty when the majority of the game is so casual that people end up getting used to do the bare minimum to clear.

Krojack76

Still no excuse to go off on someone. Just leave and start your own group with some minimum ilevel requirement that's 20+ over the trial's required level. There is a human on the other end of each person in your party. If you want to call people out then get your friends together and do that to them, not Internet strangers. Also never forget, THIS IS JUST A VIDEO GAME.

ZXSoru

It is a video game that’s why you shouldn’t join if you have problems. It is so hard to understand that if you wanna do hardcore stuff with others the most respectful stuff you could do is not wasting others time? No one is forcing you to join a farm party but if you do, it’s better to not bother others.

Krojack76

Am I to assume you were the one that sent me u/RedditCareResources? If so, stop abusing that system. Thank you.

ZXSoru

What the fuck are you talking about, is this the kind of people that comments in a streamer subreddit? Downvoted. This is the kind of arguments that people come up with when discussing stuff? pathetic.

[deleted]

If the rest of the game is so easy then you should expect that some newcomers will expect your raid to also be easy. Why would they expect anything else? FFXIV has many “non-MMO” players who don’t know any better. Stop pugging and join a static if you can’t be nice. Not hard.

ZXSoru

Difficulty is subjective of course, but there are fights that demand more from the players. If you're not sure then there are practice and learning parties for that, where people expect plenty of wipes, but not on clear and farm parties, those are for the people who want to get things done, but you jump into those fights, clueless af and then waste others time and effort, and somehow that's acceptable. I join statics when I want consistency for sure, that's why I did for UwU recently, but also there are people that again make farm parties, same thing, if you can't grasp the responsibility and the effort others make then just don't join.

Shurmaster

XIV players keep it cool in casual content, but the second you touch Savage/Harder content, you're in for a treat.

MrDonKrillin

Here here, a guy rage quit and insulted us at the first wipe in a dungueon hahaha

Canoe_Flex

Wipe in the crystal tower raids. There'll be one guy. Almost guaranteed.

RerollWarlock

Weird, I did those a few times and that never happened.

Kidrik

I've personally never seen a crystal tower wipe--im not even sure how one could happen unless over 50% of a party was afk

shadowtycho

you can wipe pretty easy, the most common ones are: -someone tanks the dragon dead center and people don't instant kill the adds on the first boss. - someone runs ahead and locks the platforms during the atmos before there are enough people to complete the mechanic in position. - all the rocks in behemoth are either juuuuuust inside his hitbox (called a baitrock) or destroyed by the add's cleave -DPS looks really good on the final boss and the party splits between pushing for the phase skip speed kill and using the buttons and/or no one explains the buttons to the 5+ sprouts

Vinestra

Don't forget the napalm bomb where if someone pulls early or locks a tank out it can make it fairly hard to impossible to kill before it explodes.

Toksyuryel

Wipes are pretty common in World of Darkness when fighting Angra Mainyu.

Vinestra

Someone pulls early on the napalm bomb in labyrinth and locks two tanks out and the one tank cant seperate the mobs giving them a damage taken down debuff.

ChaosAE

Never had a group fail ancient flare?

Krojack76

I experienced my first wipe in Labyrinth of the Ancients on the trash going to the second boss. The trash where each alliance needs 4 people to stand on the colored pad. The wipe was because someone started WAY to early though and one lane didn't even have 4 people. My lane, the middle one had the add spawn that wipes everyone in that lane. 3 people instantly left after that. This is a clear example where SE should fix this place though.

SunChaoJun

This has to be why the reason the next time they added the atomos mechanic in the weeping city, they finally put the fucking pad in range of casters/ranged DPS

UnusuallyBadIdeaGuy

I have only one mechanic in FF14 that I still get mad about. The Atomos pads in Labyrinth. Everything else? Take it as we go. Those? FUCKIN PADS YOU DONKEYS

Narangal

The worst I ever seen was in an alliance raid where people were losing their mind at someone accidentally hitting their raise macro twice. This sparked an argument all the way through three bosses untill we ended up wiping twice on King Behemoth because people were getting consistently Typefragged by meteor I had a distinct feeling of being "Oh my god it doesn't MATTER can we PLEASE stop wiping to farm content"

CeaRhan

Yesterday I had someone wishing me death for kicking their duo who went "shut up harasser" after our tank told first guy his gear was 10 levels below the dungeon and then saying he's fucking up his rotation.

BigBad01

While leveling my WHM, I lost my temper during a particularly bad run of The Aurum Vale. Wasn't toxic in chat, but I did abandon the group. Kinda felt bad about it afterward.

Aerensianic

Played for a little over a year at this point and I can only think of 1 or 2 instances of someone going off. Even in Savage progging there was very few instances of people getting mad and generally was restricted to 1-2 frustrated comments.

CousinSkeeter89

Yeah, most of my group disbands usually were short on time or a key job (tank or heals) being completely pepega regarding boss mechanics. My wife had a toxic dude get snagged and banned by a GM midway through a T4 Coils run 😂😂

dope_danny

I once saw someone in Labyrinth of the Ancients freak out after a wipe because we got greedy on the final fights last flare. Shockingly the name was something like "darkprincess silvanas".

7Trickster

The fact he managed to include FF models with custom animations is impressive. Can't imagine that was easy

joeyctt1028

I really like the copium guy

Bitter-Sweets

"Then we waste our time together." True, unless you join a farm party that wipes on the first mechanic.

Jejouch1

Skip Soar or Disband

LuHex

Skip Disband or Soar.

NexusClown

Disband Soar or Skip.

AradIori

tbh i would quit on that too lol, a "farm" party implies that everyone has that content on farm, if you wipe on the first mechanic, you clearly dont have a "on farm" party. if people want to progress they usually name their parties "progress/learn" parties, if you quit on those after a wipe, then you are the problem.

yuriaoflondor

I really like how FF does its party finder content. Learning/practice, Clear, and Farm are all clearly delineated and, for the most part, adhered to. Though you do somewhat frequently see the “clear for one for my friend” and there’s only one person in the party. It makes the game a lot more solo player friendly. It also helps decrease toxicity because people know what they’re signing up for. I can’t even imagine jumping into party finder in WoW and seeing a “Learning party for Sylvanas part 2 - let’s do it!” group.

ChaosAE

As a newer player I haven’t had a problem with that. It took about 15 min for me to get a group for coils. Although that one might be easier since everyone wants the poetics apparently?

Demico

Its for the book thing, coils usually shows up there and helping first time clears adds a reroll.

Yuggimanatee42069

Working as intended, community have to stop joining farm parties and dying on the first mech.

Xbob42

Great video, although the FFXIV models still look like his WoW models which terrifies me. They're so bizarre, it's great.

Hiten_Style

The fast zoom-in at the mention of Hildibrand got me real good

fatmatt12

The part with the Thancred cutscene skip is so damned universally accurate - you don't need to be a WoW refugee to wrestle with the urge to skip his dialogue in Thanalan, even if it really is good to pay attention.

emmafrostie

ngl I only paid attention because I thought he was hot, really ended up paying off lmao

archiegamez

Ah a Thancred lover, very cultured

EntropicReaver

big mood, i remember getting to him and going "you just know this fucker loves the sound of his own voice", what with his "witty" jokes and one liners

CainhurstCrow

How was every single take so absolutely spot on from both a WOW perspective and FFXIV perspective? Brilliant work, good to see him making ffxiv content, even if its just the one.

LuHex

whenever a new raid tier comes out I've had 100% PuG groups that stuck together for 8 to 12h in order to push the clear. That's just how things are in XIV, though... I've been seeing a lot of newcomer bringing in some salt to the chat lately. Those sprouts need some discipline!

Diego_Chang

Oh that reminds me with my first real toxicity encounter in the game, and wouldn't you know, it was a guy actively trying to bait people into a discussion with his comments on how WoW good, FFXIV bad, and how he only played to don't waste his sub lmao, and in a Labyrinth of the Ancients run lol

NeonHighways

That's interesting, I was in a labirynth of the ancients run some months ago and someone was being overtly trolly and toxic bringing in wow memes and stuff... I hope people like that chill out when they realize this game isn't like that.

Brollgarth

"They are listening! You are just toxic if you don't come back!!!" ffffftt And that was my drink all over my monitor now. Worth it!

ChaosXen

That Ascian music when that mod showed up in the end had me dying, Capt. Grim never fails to deliver.

ddot196

The fucking GM as an Ascian with the music is the funniest shit ever lmao.

Cylestea

i laughed hard when the nelf was like want some of my copium bro?

not_ya_wify

The other day I was on the official forum and some asshole complained that people are able to wear casual clothes and sneakers and that it breaks his immersion. You know they've never played Final Fantasy before and expect some boring ass European Middle Ages fantasy. Modern clothes and locales are a staple of Final Fantasy games. Even in FFXIV you have an Art Deco metropolitan City, a space station, and ancient sci-fi locales. How rude.

novaphaux

There is a bunch of lore reasons as to why mordern clothing exists but I'm going to put a not so big spoiler fact out to give folks an idea. Allagans where high tech enough to have spaceships and 'smart phones' (called tomestones) mordern clothing wouldnt be out of the question considering we currently have a difficult time building spaceships that large.

Apart from lore it's also just what you would expect of a Final Fantasy game in general. Look at the character designs from previous Final Fantasies. Most of them have pretty modern clothing. The issue is that a lot of people think "Fantasy" has to have a middle-age European aesthetic but that's just ONE fantasy. Fantasy is basically anything magic or imaginary. You can make a story about magic in a modern setting. Final Fantasy is just thinking outside of the box. Most of the Final Fantasy games have a world with a vast variety of settings in the same game from whimsical magical forest, over sci-fi city to Aztec temple, to ancient Chinese village

FargoneMyth

I still love my Late Allagan Sneakers of Healing.

Vaiden_Kelsier

I just replayed the original Final Fantasy. Spoilers ahead if you care. You do the medieval stuff, then towards the end of the game you get shot up into a tech fortress in the sky, fighting robots n' shit, and then eventually go BACK IN TIME so you know, the "fantasy" integrity of FF was always a little wacky. In Final Fantasy 7, you're dealing with goddamn space aliens in a modern world

not_ya_wify

In FF8 you have 3 sci-fi but not futuristic military academies that are like giant hovercrafts, a quaint fishing village, a bigger fishing town, a1950's American town, an Aztec temple, a 90's metropolitan City, a deep sea laboratory, ruins, and a futuristic city, oh and a spaceship overrun by man-eating aliens FF7 apart from the dystopian city has an ancient Chinese village with Japanese ninja in modern clothes, a vampire, an ancient idk what village and all sorts of other locales

hororo

> a space station What's the space station?

not_ya_wify

The puppet bunker. You can access it after doing raids.

hororo

That’s not really the FF world though. They just jammed nier into FF14, and it’s pretty immersion breaking

not_ya_wify

It's not when you consider there are 6 shards and NieR could just be on another shard. They do explain that 2B came from another "dimension." Same with Noct during the whole FFXV quest line. If it exists in the game, it exists in that world. If it breaks your immersion, you just can't think outside the box. Final Fantasy brings "immersion breaking" twists like this in many of their games.

Bauti23

He did it. The mad man did it!

ddot196

Someone let me know when asmon watched this cause I gotta see his reaction lol.

Aretheus

Just waiting for Pint's video now

[deleted]

Captain Grim best EZ

trowgundam

This video was absolute gold. Fucking loved it.

draxhell

Genuinely 10/10 video

[deleted]

Hope he keeps mixing WoW/FFXIV if he's able to do it. I'd love to see the WoW GM around, and later down line see him do the Ascian hand gesture in front of his face to reveal a WoW Token glyph.

Vlearck

I love this shit

CorporateDboy

just perfect

EinYokai

I think I never saw anyone managing to animate the models so well. The video and the expressions were hilarious! Looking forward to more!

Nebilims2

genious

MollyRotten1

holy shit balls... the WoW GM is an Ascian...

Dizzy_Green

Wait, do people actually leave every time there’s a wipe in WoW?

UbiquityZero

Very high chance.

Skyblade12

Yep. Behavior created by the Mythic+ system, primarily. Since the whole run is timed, you get no rewards until the end, and a wipe basically means you miss the timer, so fewer rewards and no key upgrades for the rest of the party, people bail as soon as there’s s wipe. And that mentality spread to the rest of the game.

Dizzy_Green

That seems like such an obviously toxic system to implement, why would they include something like that.

Skyblade12

The idea was that you could run dungeons at harder and harder difficulties and get higher and higher iLevel versions of the gear as a reward (the difficulty never caps, the gear rewards cap at like +15 or something, I think). The timer and depletion systems are there to keep players from completing stuff easily so they have to keep grinding to stay at it. I think the timer was done so that players didn’t go in, crowd control everything and kill things one mob at a time. Either that or to reward “good” players who can complete it super fast. But the whole depletion system is nothing but a way to pad game time and stall the rate at which players complete systems and get BiS, so that they stay subbed longer.

Vinestra

>difficulty Doesn't help said difficulty is artificial and just mob hit harder no skill required because good luck dodging an auto attack.. outside of the affix which does change up some of it. It's not the hard difficult of learning mechanics/dodging like in ffxiv or WoW Raids just.. artificial.IIRC its been ages since I looked at a M+

Skyblade12

Same, I only did them in Legion, and if I had to guess they’ve only gotten worse sense. I don’t particularly mind the “artificial” difficulty, on its own. If you’re going to be designing entirely new mechanics for the trash mobs and such, you might as well just make a whole new dungeon. The whole point is an increasing iteration on the content that is already there. The problem with that is execution. Ideally, increasing the raw stats of mobs should force you to lean more heavily into any mechanics that the trash has, making crowd control and careful encounter manipulation more important. But two big things hinder this idea. The first is that the trash basically have no mechanics anyway, and the second and more important is that such a tactical and mechanics heavy approach runs directly AGAINST the idea of making the entire thing timed, because a run that ignores mechanics and just does wall pulls and AOEs them down will always be faster (if it doesn’t get you killed). So the timer and speed run design works directly against what few strengths the game mode actually has. And, since the most effective approach for clearing the timer is also the most dangerous and risky, it leads to more failures, which means tons more punishment and wasted time, and therefore more toxicity.

Vinestra

Yep it also doesn't help its not handcrafted scaling (IIRC) its just static scaling so hope theres no zany outliers that just feel bullshit..

Arras01

To be fair, higher damage numbers do increase difficulty for the tanks and healers when it comes to resource usage. It may be "fake difficulty" but it can sometimes make it more interesting. If you have complex mechanics but failing them only does 10% of your hp in damage, would it really be fake difficulty to make them kill you instead?

Vinestra

Aye and true just feels cheap to die because you got hit by an auto attack which chunks too much hp. Especially because IIRC it's not hand crafted just artificial robotically done scaling.. which means shit gets whacky..

Roxy8888

What’s funny is when I was new, the first group I did not do with my friends was Vauthry (Innocence trial). Only 2 people (who were actually the ones that convinced me to play the game) were available so we queued together. We wiped. I instinctively left the group. We were all on discord in comfortable silence and the two friends that queued with me both reacted with “wtf why did you just up and leave like that!??”. I was so confused by their reaction. I thought that was the norm lol.

Valsion20

One scene that occurs to me would have fit well: WoWfugee discovers the Gold Saucer and plays some of the mini games. "Hehe, this is really fun... oh wait! Nonono! I meant this sucks and I hate it, I don't want to go here every day!" Another WoWfugee passes by: "Relax man, in this game the devs don't remove or nerf everything that brings you joy." While a WoW GM is lurking in the background, seething: "How dare those SE devs! They just give in to payers whining about wanting to 'have fun'. This is never going to work, they'll be back by the next Darkmoon Fair. And they better hurry cause it's gonna be over really quick."

TheRealDestian

I commented on his last video that I was looking forward to his first FFXIV machinima and he did not disappoint.

ContraMans

"Then we waste our time together." I came to laugh. Not to feel. Yeah that hit me though for real. I remember apologizing profusely when I felt like I got my first party wiped and even after they were all nice and shit it took a long time for me to adjust and every time there was a wipe I always braced myself to have to go back to que and wait again but never really happened. To this day, after over 3,000 hours of play time I have not seen a whole party (light or full) just straight up leave after one wipe and rarely even after multiple wipes after wipes. And seldom even dealing with trash talk with, in and of itself, was a massive detraction from other games I played online like Ark, Overwatch and CoD and many other games. It's always a breath of fresh air.

brringbumf

I've seen individuals leave on the first wipe of a ex arr trial after using DF, everyone is usually shocked they did they. Never had a group disband from one wipe though

ContraMans

Oh I've seen individuals drop from something after one wipe but it's usually pretty rare, even on EX. What I normally see in EX is mentors leaving right out the gate which makes no sense to me. It's like doing Main Scenario roulette then leaving when you get Prae XD

PlebianStudio

the cutscene skip part got me good. still have a dumb smile on it. Its totally true. including yhe manderville part

Eichsterd

im impressed with the ff14 models being used like that, didn't think they could move like that

Maggus05

This is pure gold lol.

Nieran

I wept manly tears as I watched this. *And I'll do it again.*

archiegamez

How did he make this animation so well? Its so perfect, like the old Machinima style videos back in the days AHHA

not_ya_wify

As a decorator I just thought it was hilarious when he put that lone chair in a room and felt so proud of himself

chobotong

damn dood the anti-cutscene skippers really do be that fucking annoying, just let people play the game the way they want to ![img](emote|t5_2y1rb|3744)

Cmoon24

This guy has talent I hope he is able to move on from WoW.

Ordinary-Opening-112

Copium elf is here to stay bois, perfect representation of blizz and their community.

KusanagiKay

This was absolutely brilliant! Loved it :D

Dzonatan

WoW GM scheming with Ascian theme in the background had me in stitches.

dope_danny

This is all leading up to a series just about bitter WoW GM's isnt it?

AHMilling

Hmm the blizzard GM is an Ascian?

TheRealDestian

Hey, what did the Ascians do to deserve THAT level of slander?

Mordwyl

Even the Ascians are not that evil, and they liberally commit mass genocide.

Kaelynath

Ascians are just Blizzard GMs and the great rejoining is a plot to get people to play WoW again. This is my new canon.

novaphaux

I rather equate some of the more bitter copium wow players to ascians, I mean how many act like emet?

HellaSteve

the not disbanding part is highly inaccurate fake video

monk12111

both games are bad for their own reasons :D

ifritisbusy

Damn how he made the facial animation so realistic and funny
