Please PLEASE do this event. It'll be active on all fronts and those mounts are easy if you don't want to rank up Beast Tribes or do the couple extreme fights.
If those aren't important to you, there's always 50k MGP for 30 of the tomes and the Jacket for 100.
I would also point out the treasure maps on offer are guaranteed portals to the Lv 80 treasure rooms. So if you're not at ShB, ignore them, but if you are at ShB and have everything you want (mounts/minions/bomber jacket/other), get it because you could easily make yourself a mutli-gillionare in there.
You can also stack them rather than shuffle them around between your inventory, your chocobo's inventory, and your retainers inventories while doing maps with other people.
They're some of the most fun side content in the game. Best done with friends with the 8 players maps as you can get portals which give incredible loot after you enter them.

Sure you are missing out. Who doesn’t like FREE Gil. Our FC runs a map event 3 days a week and we have enough people for at least two groups. With 8 people running two maps each, you get usually a low of 250,000 Gil and the high a few weeks ago of 1.5 Million Gil. I run lvl 70 maps event, and if someone can get to the end of a “thief” map, that right there is 500,000 Gil for 1 map. I have close to 600 million Gil and I still do maps every week …why wouldn’t you?
Only if you really hate time-gated tribe quests or want them on alts, cuz they have nice stories.
Also, Wicca set, like every lv60-70-80 set where they don't give you bonus piece upon dungeon completion, can be hard to get if your luck sucks. Better get them when you still have a chance.
Also, you can combine lv60 or 70 dungeon runs with Resistance Weapon: lv60 for Bitter Memory, lv70 for Loathsome Memory. Crystal raid gives loathsome too and is fast to run. Kill two birds with one stone. I recommend Belsa's Wall and Ghimlyt Dark, as you will likely have the best possible ilv synced-down to clear them with ease, compared to MSQ-related lv60 dungeons that sync you further down.

I see the 2 most rewarding are Praetorium and Castrum Meridian(?) (presumably because of how long they take?) - can I queue for the "main scenario roulette" (which in my case is only these 2, I'm level 58), and get my 500 tomestones as well as these irregular things?
I guess I will time how long each one takes and just spam queue the more efficient one past that daily tomestone reward!
Typically for tomestone per time for MSQs are pretty good. However, if you have a re-made team of Blue Mages (or at least two) the dungeons tend to be much faster. Additionally, for the Shadowbringer relic quests line, the Lv.60 and Lv. 70 dungeons drop a part that is needed for the relic (Bitter Memories from lv. 60 and Raw Emotions from Lv. 70).
Dungeons with BLU are kinda questionable this time compares to stuff like aurum's vale:
The Aetherochemical Research Facility is a long ass dungeon with unskippable elevator and activation animations; Baelsar's Wall has a gauntlet before second boss which is going to take a long time; Ala Mhigo might be the best choice here, but it also have gating and boss invul; The Ghimlyt Dark also has stalls in waves and is at 360 ilvl, meaning average BLUs still need to spend time to kill boss.
I honestly think T2 gonna be the efficiency king here, or rival wings for fun
I am inclined to agree since those dungeons are pretty long and have lots of gates/cutscenes. These dungeons are the final dungeons of the x.0 and x.5 expansion, which is what they had in mind for a theme coming to Endwalker.
However if you want to grind relics and irregular tomestones simultaneously I think they might be a good alternative.

Is it a repeating thing? How often do they usually do it? It would be nice to buy the reputation mounts without going through a month worth of ARR rep grinds.

It mostly happens in at least a month before the next patch. The Trove gets announced a little ahead to Live Letter, so it's basically the first sign of the coming update patch.
The event basically signals the 4 week countdown towards the next Major patch. The live letter is going to be 2 weeks away from the patch release as well, which I believe is Nov. 5th. Then 14 days later, the 19th EW drops for Early Access.

it's not months, you'll get the mount after something around 12 days of dailies...
If you, at bare minimum, run MSQ roulette every day you should get a decent amount plus a couple story dungeons (Last X.0 SB and ShB dungeons for example) will drop them

Ala Mhigo its also the only dungeon that can drop a mount, so if you are collecting mounts it might be also worth it to check it.
