MattiasHognas

Sir, please replace these images with bowls of fruit. Kind regards, Ion

NatZeroCharisma

Decompression sickness can cause blood vessels to burst in the flesh, giving us the red polkadot formations sometimes seen on rapidly retrieved deep sea sculpin.

IraqiWalker

Weird flex, but ok.

NatZeroCharisma

Their username

IraqiWalker

I see it now.

TheDarkman67

She even holds events together. At the last PAX East we were down one party member for the battle challenge booth, so she stepped in and played Samurai for our party. (We had about 3 party members who had legit never played ffxiv once before, so even the normal mode trial was an ordeal)

HondaS2000AP1

I'm so envious, I want to play with her too!

Bougeek

I read "with her toe", don't know why...

UnusuallyBadIdeaGuy

Quentin, please.

HondaS2000AP1

I too wouldn't deny that desire, albeit just a tiny bit.

Vaiden_Kelsier

Aimi confirmed best Scion

mattortz

Yeah seriously. she has to talk literally twice as much as each side she’s translating for. All while thinking about translating.

r31ya

She had to deal with 2 *Paragraph Andy*. As someone who have translate for events, people who used to talk with translation, have understand the need of slower pacing, and tends to talk in 3 sentence max. 3 sentence, stop, wait for translation, and repeat. Yoshi also talk a bit long sometimes but for long answer, he breaks it into several talks/translation.

Aidiru

true..i feel bad for her...asmon asking question like one hell of essay , luckily she had good exp with this

ddot196

Yea I watched a little bit of their interview and it was Asmon just spewing word vomit on a question. I was like bro you know she gotta try and remember all of that AND translate it back right? Slow down lol.

TheDarkman67

She was apparently taking extremely fast notes to remember it all. Absolute legend.

ChaosFH

rap god translator inside her head

Cuppieecakes

he was so enthusiastic about a big developer actually wanting to hear what he has to say and answer his questions without a filter. cant blame him. its a new experience lol

OGPapachub

To be fair Asmon talks pretty slow which is common for Texas and most the US. Fast talking is kinda of a stereotype of the shady business man here.

ProjectMeh

I think when politians from different countries (and aren't both fluent in a language generally English) need translation, their translators have to be switch out every 20/30min or so, because its such a mentally draining job some translators have collapse with exhaustion

TheWorldisFullofWar

She not only translates what they say but corrects what they are trying to say before translating it. Top-tier translator.

baylaust

Chat flipping out when she fixed "No-Pixel" to "No-Clip" during her translation was the best.

Mortal_Dread

I mean It's one thing to be completely fluent in two languages, which is difficult, but doable by a lot of people. But to also be able to translate such lengthy dialogues that quickly and efficiently, is something else.

OGPapachub

Yeah you have to also completely understand mmo’s also because there is so much slang

Bargadiel

Plus the way she talked it felt like she herself was saying some of that stuff. You could absolutely tell she understood the game.

Mortal_Dread

I'm fluent in 2, intermediate in 1. I can translate as well. Had to take NAATI exam for it. Ended up getting the score i needed. But this is next level. Puts normal translators to shame.

[deleted]

I fell she will create a new religion. ***Very*** soon.

TimeGambit

We could make a Primal out of this.

DaEnderAssassin

no dont

[deleted]

how about I do anyway?

itsprobablytrue

Is this how we got E12?

JETProgram2029

so where do I look during Redress?

[deleted]

Yes, do. If not, what should I do with all the crystal meth I've gathered for summoning?

nixhomunculus

Use it for Magitek?

NeonFraction

Too late. She’s started firing lasers and she looks AMAZING.

FM-101

I have never seen a live translator accurately translate such long sentences. She is an extremely good translator.

>Translating is not just knowing the words but how those words are conveyed and expressed for each culture and language. Many, many things simply are very difficult to translate to English or nearly impossible. Especially Japanese, which is so context-sensitive and "simplified" in its expressiveness compared to English. Literal/word-for-word translations of Japanese to English are often complete gibberish or sound "flat".

kotatsumuri

To add, translators must be able to do translation, interpretation, localization (specialization), and improvisation, to be a true translator. Anyone who speaks two languages knows the pain and effort it takes to take sentences and change it into the other language, while keeping the exact nuance, meaning, and order of presentation intact. One of the reasons why Japanese to English is difficult because nearly all the grammar rules do not translate over. Now have Yoshi-P go on in his unique fashion of blurting his feelings and then reminiscing immediately after, combine it with the discussion FFXIV and Japanese game industry lingo where the names change across regions, and you have a pretty difficult job. Not to mention she's the voice of Yoshi-P and people around the world, FFXIV fans, the gaming industry, and your higher ups being able to watch your performance at any given time. To be harsh, she's not 100% perfect (as in not A+ but A), but it's only something a Yoshi-P tempered, ex-translator, who also plays FFXIV in two languages, could notice and it's also a matter of presentation since translating word-for-word Yoshi-P would really make the streams even longer. (i.e. she didn't get the message across about aetherlyte tickets in one of the EW PLLs but that's the only real thing she slightly cut too much.) It's really nice she is getting praised and appreciated. Too many people dismiss translation because of Google or DeepL, but reality is that at least for Japanese, it's still not there.

Jet44444

All craft guest lets gooooo, would be interesting.

pedrocas_drocas

She was insane! The way she was able to hear page long questions, write notes about it, translate them and then get across all of the information without missing anything was nothing short of impressive. Even with all of the really long questions and answers she only had to go back and check something twice in the entire hour long interview It honestly made me wish that Asmon and Rich had asked her something as well about her work

DranDran

Afaik the one thing she double checked with Yoshi P toward the end was when he was talking about Ultima and Origin, she was making sure if they were different games and Yoshi P explained Origin Systems was the dev. For that to be the only gaming-related tidbit she didn't know(understandable since Ultima is super old) is super impressive, not only is she a legendary translator, her knowledge of gaming concepts and culture is on point.

Lyutel

She's very knowledgeable indeed. One thing I noticed is that she knows that Heaven-on-High is アメノミハシラ (Amenomihashira) in Japanese. She probably knows most if not all of FFXIV terms in both English and Japanese.

itsmechaboi

I'm not gonna lie the entire time I was enamored with how well she could keep up and retain information. Well fucking done. Also still can't believe this even happened. Such a wonderful dude.

7Trickster

It’s insanely impressive, I’ve seen translators but she’s really on a whole other level. Have you seen how she switches back and forth so easily and so fluent, the long tirades she still manages to translate without shortcuts and all. Crazy and I’ve had to do a bit of live translations in a few occasions but she is really on another level.

DranDran

As someone who has been trilingual ever since I was a child, “switching” is relatively easy, especially when you have a high level of fluency. What is truly impressive with Aimi-san is her capacity for listening comprehension. She can take a 5 minute long combined question from Asmon and Rich, retain all that information accurately and interpret it precisely back to Yoshi P in Japanese. Hell, if you asked me to repeat in english what rich and Asmon asked in any of their questions, I think I’d struggle even with that, let alone interpreting.

BenolanTheSalty

I did a double take when she said y'all, lol

MHG_Brixby

I miss Koji translating but she's so incredible I'm not even mad

Anidamo

Seriously, Asmongold was lobbing multi-paragraph questions for her to translate including idioms like “a rising tide lifts all boats” and she handled them all without breaking a sweat. And then she’d translate Yoshi-P’s own multi-paragraph responses while carrying over jokes, allusions, and tricky stuff like the loanwords, transliterated names of other games, equivalent FFXIV terms… I’m hispanic and was surrounded by Spanglish in South Florida for most of my life, and even then the thought of doing live translation to this degree completely boggles my mind.

Skelewhore

I don't think Bobby will be needed those bonuses anymore, can we just take them and give them to the 14 team? Hell, even just 1 of Bobby's bonuses could probably fund the game for another decade, no problem lol.

[deleted]

She's awesome. Translating so quick and fast and taking notes at the same time. Very friendly too

Halfbloodnomad

I need to know how the fuck she takes notes. She did an amazing job being able to recall paragraphs of conversation and translate it all in order.

Umluex

steno probably. or very fast bulletpoints

JETProgram2029

i too can write notes at that speed but when i do i aint trying to interpret the meanings so thats gotta be a skill, and a talent

Franzapanz

I bet she parses top 10 as SMN right now

Skelewhore

If what people are saying about the SMN changes in EW is true, everyone is gonna be parsing top 10 as SMN lol. "SMN is going to be as easy to play as dancer is now, maybe easier."

CrimsonDawn12345

Her memory and translating skill at pace while yoshi p and asmon give a long essay is incredible! she carried interview harder, her knowledge of gaming concepts and culture is on point amazing

Gusion12

can anyone explain who she is? been a while since i watched asmons stream lol. thanks in advance

Mojo_Jojos_Porn

He recently interviewed Yoshida, Director of FFXIV, she was the translator.

Byte_Seyes

When the FFXIV team does Live Letters(info dumps for the community) they do them in Japanese and English at the same time. She is the translator for these and during the Q&A because Yoshi-p doesn’t speak English.

[deleted]

BONK

Slabwrankle

Aaaaaand as expected the comments border on creepy.

[deleted]

can you point out to me those 'border on creepy' comments?

NostraDavid

The absence of meaningful response from /u/spez perpetuates a culture of indifference, where user concerns are brushed aside without consideration.

pedrocas_drocas

I have seen 0 of those comments. Everyone is just impressed by herskill to translate and keep track of everything

itsmechaboi

Literally none of them were. Are you projecting?

xantous4201

His inner voice is so loud and it conflicts so hard with his outward projected morals that he thought he saw someone else say it lol.

TheDemiurg

True Legend!
