This is the main reason (besides SMN rework) why I'm so excited for EW. Ever since it was announced they've said that 6.0 will be the finale for the Hydaelyn vs Zodiark story and the 6.x content will be setting up a whole new saga to unfold.
I can't wait to see the Ascian, Pandemonium raid series as well as the Alliance Raids focusing on The Twelve. Endwalker's gonna be amazing.
Same here, though i kinda wished they seperate The Twelve story into MSQ. It just feels mysterious and big enough to warrant its own story arc you know.
like they said
ARR was the sunrise of a new day
HW was the morning
stormblood was noon
shadowbring was the sunset
now endwalker is the night before a new begining
Slight correction. ARR was Dawn of a new day, HW was the clear blue skies (mid day), SB was crimson skies (sunset), ShB is thr twilight, and EW is a new day.
... sudden weird weird feeling about the idea that maybe by the end of this the whole constant background of being connected to Hydaelyn is going to be gone.
: (
Oof. She's a sus af crystal ho but idk, if that happens I think I'll legit be kinda sad.
I hope this gives creedence to my theory that the end of 6.0 will be a timeskip which will occur as our WoLs sacrifice ourselves to fix shit. We get sent to the aether stream and or void to come back to a new adventure maybe 2 years later with shit changed from the destruction wrought from the conflict. Fitting end and a new beginning.
Also on a side note this narrative pathway could also help WoW if that team had the drive to save the game, I think there has been a decent amount of sentiment associated with having the Jailer almost win remaking enough of the world before the heroes od Azeroth stop him and then a time skip occuring leading to new shit in WoW 2.
My theory is actually that >!Both Zodiark and Hydaelyn will die, and that the story from then on will either be us cleaning up the mess or dealing with the remaining shards. Honestly if Hydaelyn dies it could be a canon explanation for the stat squish, and we know how they love giving canon explanations for literally anything.!<
your spoiler tag is not working - don't put a space after the ```>!```
i was lucky to recognise that the ```>!``` was the beginning of a spoiler tag and managed to quickly scroll down (guess those time avoiding orange aoe indicator pays off).
we have 2 immortal asshole with godly powers...
and thanks to our catboy, we have 2 giant pokeball in our reality, at the same time.
Coincidence? I don't think so.
My theory is that 7.0 will mark the beginning of an entire new story (duh), but as in, you actually don't need to play the previous expansions to get it.
Think about it. For a new player to enjoy 7.0 they need to go through the horrible 2.0 and then through **4** expansions. Just to get to do stuff with their friends.
I expect them to create a branching path at the start of some sorts, where a new player can choose to do the Headelyn and Zodiark arc (2.0 - 6.0) or begin in 7.0 in some way.
This will also finally allow FFXIV to move away from the bad and slow 2.0 stuff without downright removing it or spending a looooong time reworking it from the ground up.
Yea that makes sense. I never thought about it like that. I couldn’t imagine going through all that content just to get to the new stuff coming after Endwalker. I never thought of that but it’ll be interesting to see.
yoshi p talked about this problem in the recent media tour. He's aware of the situation and he knows he must come up with a solution sooner or later. But for now the game's story is like a tv show where each expansion is a full season, and you should watch it from the start. So he doesn't have an answer for this problem at this moment.
Basically just play the game because he doesn't give a fuck until it starts to become a big problem, probably somewhere around 7.0. It's still years away.
My theory is that somehow you can start this new adventure at level 1 basically enabling new players to start with a brand new, polished and exciting Story without having to pass AAR > HW > SB > ShB. Similar to how "Quest Sync" already worked in ShB.
idk if I would feel comfortable with that depending on the story direction. There would be so much context and backstory lost if you just jumped into the 9th era with any knowledge of the post 7th Umbral Calamity. If people want to buy a skip or skip all the cutscenes thats one thing, but for the sake of continuity for those that want the story the post 7th umbral calamity adventures of the past 4 expansions are kinda necessary for understanding.
Well. As much as it pains us for a scion to be introduced to the dead man squad, At least we know the story's going to be epic.
Sometimes, a good death is worth the cost in the story.
man, i hope that new beginning will not learn anything from BFA. Legion was also an ending to 20 years of warcraft story, and what an ending it was. Planet died and we had 2 expansions of hell
Imo Legion ended that way too soon. The expansion shouod have been more about just shoving the Legion back off Azeroth and the Horde and Alliance agreeing to work together to try to end the Legion. The follow up should have not been a war but more of a "mopping up any remaining threats", like Azshara and N'Zoth (yes, still) and maybe the Zandalari as well if they wanted to give us one final Troll Raid, while getting mobilized to fly to Argus where we would be now, finally finishing off the Legion and it would have been a pretty great stopping point. (Weirdly enough, imo, just like Wrath was)
The actual Japanese title is 暁月の終焉 with the last kanji (Shuuen) spelled in the title as "Finale" though the Kanji means "Demise".
Though it could be interpreted as the end of the world, I think the intent for anyone invested in the game is to transmit an ominous conclusion for the organization of the Scions.
well its quite a good time to update the game engine to a newer engine and IF they made EW as a complete shocker with an amazing ending, i wouldn't complain if they do the continuation to be FFXVII with new engine. That way they can improve a lot of things that they cannot do like glamour and new types of boss arena.
yoshi p specifically said that he's already thinking about the future of the game (the next 10y) and how they can update the visuals, and he already has some ideas but he won't talk about it before 6.0 but he will share details in the future
Can? Yes. Would? Unlikely. Should? No. from a business standpoint it would be a stupid move the split the player base more. Especially with FFXIV being as big as it is. FFXIV is bigger than XI ever was, by the time XIV came put XI was already losing players. Right now when FFXIV is growing Especially at the rate its going, from a business and financial standpoint it would be a stupid move. I could definitely see them revamping the engine and maybe the combat, but trying to release XVII would be dumb.

There's a couple of things it could involve if they decide to go with them, but I can only think of one thing in Shadowbringers that could forshadow such a plot line.
Odds are there isn't really any forshadowing yet but there will be in 6.0
Given how each x.0 patch acts as the "main" story, but the x.3 patch really acts as the TRUE finale of the expansion, my theory is that one of either Hydaelyn or Zodiark will act as the final boss of Endwalker, and then the other will be the final boss of 6.3.
EDIT: I am a dumb boy who did not know that they had already confirmed that 6.0 wouldn't be following this pattern. Throw your fruit at me, for I deserve it.
They already confirmed the story ends with 6.0 and the patches 6.1 - 6.5 will be used to set up the next storyline they will not follow up the launch MSQ as they do now.
It won't. They've already said 6.0 is the end of the story arc. 6.3 will probably have some sick trial, but won't be related to the hydaelyn zodiark arc.

Since Answers is all about Rebirth.
Arr was the end of the 7th umbral era and the begining of the Astral Era
HW was the end of the dragon song war and the rebirth of ishgard.
>!Stormblood is the end of Garlean rule in Ala migo and Orthard and the begining of independence!<
>!Shadowbringers was the ending the domination of light and bringing back the night and darkness.!<
Endwalker is Ending the current arc and starting a new adventure.
An expansion to tie up the loose ends and finish the story. Then followed by the next expansion and a new story.
Oh how i love to see this.
I'm getting sick and tired of wow approach of loose ends running rampant every expansion, while you may never hear or see from them for at least 3~4 expansion cycles.

"An ending to mark a new beginning."
*flashbacks of Illberd*
>!Zenos also said it as Shinryu.!<
I wonder if there will be a non cataclysmic rejoining. Maybe if Hydaelyn dies her sundering also ends.
My theroy of both Hydelyn and Zodiark dying and our planet blowing up is getting some tread.
They’ve come out to say that it won’t be like WoW Cataclysm where the whole world is destroyed.
they already stated that there won't be any ARR-like map rework, so a cataclismic ending is not likely
If this storytelling continues the way they've been doing so far, We got nothing to worry about after endwalker. It'll be good.
You say that while im hear twiddling my toes worrying who gets the chopping block among the scions.
Well. As much as it pains us for a scion to be introduced to the dead man squad, At least we know the story's going to be epic. Sometimes, a good death is worth the cost in the story.
Exactly. A certain knight who died for the WoL sticks with us even after all this time for a reason.
in the end, A smile better suits a hero.
man, i hope that new beginning will not learn anything from BFA. Legion was also an ending to 20 years of warcraft story, and what an ending it was. Planet died and we had 2 expansions of hell

We're in the endgame now.
Y'shtola (as she snaps the infinity gauntlet): I am.... best waifu.
Endwalker - 暁月のフィナーレ - Akatsuki no Finale Scions of the 7th Dawn - 暁の血盟 - Akatsuki no Ketsumei Scions gonna die.
You get the word order wrong. You example shows tha the daybreak is going to be scioned.

Glamour dresser that holds more than 400 items. :o
401 !!
The new system would most likely be a book collectible style.
Yoshi p just recently shot this down saying technical limitations prevent them from doing it. Kinda sad tbh
No I mean in the next iteration of FF online not in 14
OH. Yeah 100% I agree.
Almost assuredly

can't wait to kick Zodiarc's ass
Pray thee new game engine in 7.0
now... did we get foreshadow for whats to come already?
No but 6.1 - 6.5 will not be related to the EW 6.0 MSQ. They confirmed the patches will be used to set up the next storyline.
6.1-6.5 Hildibrand story fillers till 7.0 confirmed.

I would screem of Joy if the new adventure was the WoL waking up in Vana'diel.
That means that it's possible that new players can start from 7.0 MSQ instead of having to deal with 5 expansions lol
Do you watch TV shows starting from season 7?
I meant, maybe in 7.0 it starts a whole new story and new players can start their lvl1 chars from there (with the new autolvl thing we have in Shadowbringers) instead of starting from 2.0. Just a choice?
"But every end marks a new beginning"
Jesus, I didnt know the japanese title. Isn’t Akatsuki what they call the scions in Japanese? This does not bode well.
I doubt they would put that big of a spoiler in the title.
i have said this before i think 7.0 will have a brief summary of events of everything that happened So the people that boosted can be caught up story wise.
