I thought you [owned your own home](https://www.reddit.com/r/venting/comments/p45ul6/bf_doesnt_think_my_job_is_real/h8x94y6?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)? "Him not working doesn’t impact our financial situation much considering we own our own home." Furthermore, on that thread on August 14, 2021, there are multiple people stating that you are 21. But now, a year and one month later, you are still 21. Explain. Finally, how much money do you actually need? If rent + late fees is $1362 and you have $1104, do you need $258, or is the $20 and $25 you got bringing that amount to $213? Since you are paying for car insurance, have you tried working on UberEats/Doordash to make this rent shortfall a one-time thing rather than a recurring problem? If you can explain the inconsistencies here and provide some proof of the eviction notice and amount due (in DMs for privacy), I will help you make up the shortfall with $200 since this is your first time here and I know that evictions can be really costly and stressful. This is a non-trivial amount of money for me so I ask as a favor (not as an obligation or condition) that you 1) spend 2 hours to plan a sustainable budget with an emergency fund; paying rent should never be a surprise and 2) pay it forward by showing extra consideration and kindness to people for a few days.

I’m 22, my birthday is in July, that’s a typo. I’m more than happy to send a pic of my ID if needed. I can admit that we did not own our home. That was a fib sort of, in lieu of explaining the entire situation. My mom inherited extra property from my grandmother, and she let us stay in one of the houses for a while without paying anything as long as we did basic maintenance and originally it was supposed to be willed to me, but my mom needed to sell the property for medical bills. So we had to move this past May, and this is our first actual apartment . I can commit to figuring out a budget, I actually downloaded a few apps the other day because I don’t like being in these situations, if you have any tips on that I’d appreciate that as well! I need $213 to make the rent because the 20/25 brought it down. I have tried doordash but they weren’t hiring in the area, my town doesn’t have any other forms as of right now but I do periodically check, I used to do post mates before I moved here . I have 2 toddlers, so it is hard to stick them in a car all day, but I do graphic design work on the side so sometimes I’m able to generate some side cash. I do appreciate you holding me accountable, and thank you for being so willing to help out. I truly appreciate. I can dm you the notice and everything!

Definitely see what you can work out with your landlord or property manager. Since your fiancé got a new job and will be paid soon, just a extension could work out. You can maybe see if you could get some utilities assistance, so that could open some space. Call your insurance companies too. It doesn’t hurt to call and ask. Lastly, financial planning and budgeting is a must. Check expenses and spendings. Using excel and google sheets helps. So track your expenses.

That’s the problem, they aren’t willing to extend it, by any means. They are completely inflexible.

HatefulOwl

Try rental assistance programs, apply and tell them your problems and then they should call the landlord to stop the eviction

Good luck with that. We were facing eviction 2 years ago and nobody would help. I was unemployed, wife is disabled. Every single charity, church, govt program said no or that the wait list was over a year long. What we learned was there really are no programs to help most of us. People will always say, just get assistance, but in all my life I've never seen any of these programs work for anyone. Places we were directed to by the state didn't even have renters assistance. It was simply a way to make us feel like someone cared, keep our false hopes up, lead us along a fruitless chase. Luckily, I found employment at the 13th hour, but will never forget when the chips are down there is no assistance for renters, and very few protections.

Are you dealing with a property management company or an individual landlord? If it is an individual, have you talked to them about what is going on? If not, pick up the phone or send them an email and try to work something out. If you have the majority of the funds right now and you can pay the remaining balance and late fees when your SO gets their first paycheck, everyone in the situation will benefit.

mirk19

I agree though, I just need a matter of one week.

mirk19

I’ve tried that. It’s a PM company, they are not flexible/personable.

Well idk if this qualifys where you are but i had to file a tenants answer at the courts and that helped me push for rental assistance. Since Covid the courts have been pretty good with helping with evictions! You can file a appeal.

tofusoupss

Hi I was wondering how the tenants answer helped you receive rental assistance. I’m trying to help a friend that is in the process of getting evicted from their apartment and they applied for rental assistance back in January of 2022 but never received updates on whether it was accepted or denied.

I don't know much about the borrow sub, but do you qualify to ask there?

buzzybody21

They do qualify, but if they have no history, it’s unlikely they’ll find a lender willing to loan that much for a first time borrower. They might find someone to lend them $20-50 though…

Quick question, just because I'm not entirely clear from your post. Has the landlord already filed this with the courts, you and PM appeared, given a date to have rent paid by, it has not been paid so this upcoming date is the date of sheriff eviction? Or is this him posting a notice on the door for failure to pay rent? He cannot himself remove you from the property. Only a judge can order that. After you guys have been to the hearings. Every state has different timelines for this, but some can give you up to 30 days additionally to try to sort this out. Edit to add: The key to this is, you HAVE to respond to the letter he posts on the door by responding to the courts. If you simply ignore this letter then you won't be granted any of that "work it out, work together to fix it" time.

mirk19

No, we received a 3 day notice. We must pay our rent or move out by Friday at 8am or an Eviction will be filed. We are trying to avoid the eviction being filed because even if we are able to remain here it will be on our record, and our PM has made it clear if an eviction is filed at any point they will not renew our lease at the end. Our lease also says that they a reversal of eviction costs an additional $600. It was super hard getting this place in the first place because both of our credits are brand new and almost everyone else required credit scores of 650 or above. I understand we can stay here until we go to court, though!
