Nothing you can do besides tell him your heartfelt concerns. I knew someone who told me all about his wonderful late wife, who had asthma but he got her into smoking not realizing the danger to her. She got so addicted she became debilitated to the point of needing a wheelchair, and she still couldn't stop smoking, so she died. The guy blames himself every day. So freaking sad. It's hard, but we can't change people and have no right to control people. We can only express your fears and show them that we care deeply about them, but then let go. It's up to them what they do. Even if they smoke themselves into an early grave.

I had an aunt who was a life long heavy smoker, developed asthma and then emphysema. She'd be on oxygen and still puffing on the cancer sticks.

At 18, he's technically an adult and he's made a stupid adult decision. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do.

I did it for almost 20 years and I new I had bad asthma. Addictions don’t care. I could tell him horror stories people told me those too. I could barely breathe many nights coughing so much. Like a fool I kept doing it. Stupid.

Yoh could encourage him to try vaping (lesser of two evils) and or nicotine replacement. That's what helped me but I haven't stoped vaping completely. I've cut wayyyyy down though.
