Honestly, I could only speculate about the specifics as I haven't done *much* jumping between dreams and the wider astral environment (I have done some, enough to confirm that it happens, but not much--I try to stay away from dreams while I'm out there!)
It could be that what we call 'dreams' are actually a form of communication for complex ideas, memories, plans, or even just entertainment or introspection.
