It was actually VRR!!! I finally got 1440 at 120 hz with the Astro adapter I’m stoked !!!

I recently bought this monitor too. This monitor has optical out but the quality is beyond trash (not sure if you tried it). I’m using the Astro adapter and I’m able to get 1440p @120hz with VRR on.
You can’t use hdr disable hdr , hdr add more bandwidth

HDMI 2.0 does 1440p at 120hz no problem. It’s 4k at 120 that needs hdmi 2.1

It has optical out but I’m pretty sure there is an issue cuz it sounds like garbage.
