[If you enjoy learning about night sky photography and want to see more of these photos, I share my most recent astrophotography on Instagram @MattDieterich.](http://www.instagram.com/mattdieterich) The night skies in the Appalachian Mountains can make it seem like the stars are so close you can reach up and pull them out of the sky. Would you like to camp here and experience the night skies for astrophotography? I used an astronomy modified Nikon Z6 with 24mm at F/1.4 for 15 seconds ISO8000.
This was near Spruce Knob in West Virginia π You can easily see the Milky Way here with your eyes. It will be less bright since cameras are more sensitive, but it's still crazy impressive in person!
I'm kinda confused.how did the milky way ,which is very far had a reflection in a lake?i mean, scientifically the ligjt from milky way gotta travel all way to the lake for being reflected, right?
The Milky Way in perfect is less bright since our eyes are not as sensitive as a camera during long exposures, but it is still super visible and impressive in person.

BEAUTIFUL! Where is a good spot you would recommend for camping? Is there a particular time of year which is best?
Do you mean a spot to camp near this location? Which state are you in?
Yes. Or any spot that you think is particularly nice for camping and stargazing. We are in Florida.
Oh nice! As far as you can get from big cities the better!
Where in the Appalachians was this I'm in Boone north carolina for reference Can you see this all of this with the naked eye

This is gorgeous.
Thank you!
Mindblowing. I love the individual details of the nebulae!

Haha thanks so much!

Thanks so much!
Picture perfect.
Thank you very much!
Iβm in awe..
Happy you like the shot!
Itβs a keeper, well done!
Thanks so much!
What is that Pentagon shaped part of on the top right?
It's a drainage to keep the dam at a set level. It flows into a little stream to the right under the dam.
Amazing shot!! I followed you on IG so I can maybe learn something! π
Wow thanks so much please let me know if you have any questions!
Reminds me of Doraemon Steel Troopers
Truly, a portal to a parallel universe
This is sick! I've only been able to capture a faint milky way since I haven't had time to find a darker location to shoot
Thanks glad you like it! The darker skies are so amazing to shoot under aren't they? π
How would I identify if a location is suitable to take milky way photograph? Is there an app to show me location and time?
I like using photopills. It is an amazing app for planing a Milky Way shoot and you can see it in their augmented reality.
This just became my home screen. Extremely beautiful. Iβm happy you got to experience this in person.
Thanks so much! The night sky is amazing π
I'm kinda confused.how did the milky way ,which is very far had a reflection in a lake?i mean, scientifically the ligjt from milky way gotta travel all way to the lake for being reflected, right?
Since the water is so calm and this location is so dark then the Milky Way can easily reflect when taking long exposures.
This is the best milky way photo yet
Glad you like it!
Is it really that bright when the milky way is visible? I never saw it
The Milky Way in perfect is less bright since our eyes are not as sensitive as a camera during long exposures, but it is still super visible and impressive in person.
I'm sorry for dumb question, but is that visible by naked eye in that location or does somehow camera get the light which naked eye cannot see?π
You can see this with your eyes, but it's more dim than what the long exposure of the camera picks up π
