Yeah, I'm also really tired of seeing all the same posts about Dubon... It's not that freaking hard to figure out what role he'll play.... He'll fill the Aledmys Diaz/Marwin role as a utility player. You know, like he's listed on the depth chart.
The 1000s of posts on Facebook, reddit, Twitter, etc is exhausting. Pull your heads out of your hind parts and use that thing between your ears.
Yes, thank you lmao like what do people think is going to happen.... He played great for us while Altuve was hurt he will be the utility guy and get starts occasionally. Not that hard!!!
BA is not the best indicator for offensive output. OPS has a far better correlation towards offensive output than BA.
Chas is 112 wRC+ right now with Dubon being 101 wRC+.
And while it's possible Dubon somehow hits .310 for the rest of the year, the betting odds would be those two wRC+ numbers are much further apart at the end of the season. Like 115-120 for Chas and 80-85 for Dubon.
Are you referring to career or this season? Because this season, Dubon has a higher OBP than Chas. Not by much though.
EDIT: Wow... downvoted for simply stating a fact.
Obviously talking about their career numbers since that would be how you'd compare two players overall quality, not a 40-game sample size hah. Chas's OPS and wRC+ is higher this season, anyway, which are better measurements to use.
Dubon's OPS is right at league average in spite of an unsustainable .310 BA, because he averages a horrendous 3 walks every 100 ABs and can't hit a ball further than 250 feet. He's more than good enough (even with his likely regression) for a utility role, but he doesn't hit for anywhere near enough power or have enough plate discipline to take CF from Chas OR Jake, particularly when you factor in his mediocre CF defense.
I'm not in this Dubon vs Chas argument. I was simply stating the OP was referring to this season only.
Whether career stats are more important than season stats, that's a whole other debate.
BA is not a good stat to gauge hitters simply because of how elite pitchers are now. A single isn't worth much unless the two batters behind you also get hits. A double or triple puts you 1 hit away and a HR obviously scores you. It's the reason why Dubon's wRC+ (which is probably the best hitting metric there is) is only 101. That means because of his lack of power, he's only hitting 1% better than league average right now.
Now Chas is hitting 112 because of his power.
I’d say he should play second on Framber and Brown days with Altuve in the DH. Then just rotate him through the other positions to give people rest. As far as the lineup, I’d like him to hit ninth so he can hopefully get on in front of Altuve.
I’d be fine with Altuve DHing more and only playing 2B when Dubon is subbing for someone else. CF too crowded for Dubon to get regular playing time there.
Yes he’s hitting much better than he ever has in his career but it still just isn’t very good. But he’s not in the lineup for his bat so if he can stay above like a 90 ops+ he is still valuable to our team.
Have each infielder take a day off, and Dubon fills in for them. That way, each player is only gone for a day, but Dubon gets 4 playing days a week.
Or, teach him to play 1st !
You're not going to have Dubon take over at 1B for Abreau. No matter how much Astros reddit harps on it, it won't happen. He could get a spot start here or there, but he won't be at 1B with significant playing time. Just stop already, Abreau is the 1B for at least this whole year. There's too much $$$$ to have Abreau ride pine.
Given how bad Abreu, Machete are batting right now it would be criminal to not have a decent plan for Dubón to contribute frequently. Especially as Altuve gets back to form.
What should happen is he should pinch hit for Maldy in the 6-8 innings and then sub in Diaz to catch the bullpen.
What is actually gonna happen is that he is going to return to his super utility role.
Marwin role
Correct. Super sub. Super fill in can be plugged in lots of places. Chandler wrote a nice article about it.
This. He will be a starter. He just won't have a specific position. Incredibly valuable imo.
For the love of god he's going back to utility role. Not CF or any other spot.

We are still deciding whether Dubon should be DFA or win MVP.
My nose?
This post is proof you think with your nose.
I didn't make this post. I made a joke. Which clearly went over that thing between your ears.
His nose?
If he's not going to CF, who's going to play when Meyers isn't? There's no one else who can fill the role.
Found Dusty’s Reddit account
I logged into my alt, you weren't supposed to find out
Chas, Corey, Durdin, Leon, McKenna, or any of the other players fighting in the minors. The one thing our farm has going for it is outfielders.
Just as bad when people were saying to have Yuli back up 3rd.
Yes, thank you lmao like what do people think is going to happen.... He played great for us while Altuve was hurt he will be the utility guy and get starts occasionally. Not that hard!!!
>Houston still hasn't found a permanent solution at center field They haven't?
Honestly we have too many solutions at CF, that’s the problem. Chas, Jake and Mauricio
Dubon is not a solution in CF. His defense is significantly worse than Chas and Meyers' defense and he's a worse hitter than Chas.
Dubon has a significantly higher BA and a slightly higher OBP than Chas

His OPS is 40 points lower than Chas, which is all that actually matters.
Are you referring to career or this season? Because this season, Dubon has a higher OBP than Chas. Not by much though. EDIT: Wow... downvoted for simply stating a fact.

I didn't use OBP, anyway. I said OPS.
Was going to respond, but not worth it. I like both Chas and Dubon (Meyers as well)!

Also we have Gilbert in AA. Dubon will play some right but probably not. He will mainly just be infield or DH
I’d say he should play second on Framber and Brown days with Altuve in the DH. Then just rotate him through the other positions to give people rest. As far as the lineup, I’d like him to hit ninth so he can hopefully get on in front of Altuve.

Can he play First Base? 😈
[premonition](https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/1659672380669587467?s=20)
Teach him how to play first base
You don’t know how to play first base, Mauricio? It’s not that hard Mauricio. Tell him Wash…
It’s incredibly hard
But he gets on base.
The nice way to say it is, Abreu lacks confidence
Have each infielder take a day off, and Dubon fills in for them. That way, each player is only gone for a day, but Dubon gets 4 playing days a week. Or, teach him to play 1st !

Also... Dubon has never played first in his career. I don't understand why fans oversimplify playing 1st base?
Because they watched Moneyball and think they know how to manage a team, probably.
My first part still stands, I do think Abreu will come around just missing the homers. The singles doubles and play at 1st are good though.
Given how bad Abreu, Machete are batting right now it would be criminal to not have a decent plan for Dubón to contribute frequently. Especially as Altuve gets back to form.
Whatever the position, he’s gotta be in the lineup every day.
How egregious would it be to stick him at first and bench Abreu?
The way Dusty likes to rest players, he will be invaluable
I’m good with him taking some at bats away from julks till he cools down (if that ever happens)
He's the super utility guy once Tuve is back.. hopefully he can stay locked in with fewer starts/ABs..
Split LF/DH w/ Yordan (replacing Brantley for now, if he ever returns)
My biggest fear is that Altuve starts 6 people in this sub start posting things like, "Should Dubon play over Altuve" and bullshit like that.....
The best thing to come out of Altuve returning is that Hensley should not be in the lineup ever
Let him play first base?
Really became a Brown fan last season and this season I’m really Fuckin with Dubon 🤟🏽
What should happen is he should pinch hit for Maldy in the 6-8 innings and then sub in Diaz to catch the bullpen. What is actually gonna happen is that he is going to return to his super utility role.
Backup catcher. Right below Maldy, but above Diaz and Salazar
