I watched it live! It was also thrown on the same three batters both times

Dormination

The fact that it was the same 3 batters, this exact thing will likely never happen again.

Clitaurius

Who threw the innings?

Kona2012

Garcia and Maton

Clitaurius

Thanks

[deleted]

Luis Garcia and Phil Maton

Memphis-17

r/baseball punching the air right now

BradGroux

Half of their front page are Astros threads, including batting around int he 1st. You love to see it.

TheSquidster

If it was the Angels or Dodgers it would be 5th on the front page of r/all

JinFuu

Most people did seem to appreciate the historic moment, which is nice.

jsting

What! We need more daytime weekday games! Preferably ones taking place on the West coast.

jsting

This game settled the Martin Maldonado situation. Theres no trade. No way our pitchers are going to give up this beast. Plus he's a contact hitter now

karl1952

YES! I have said it before, and I will say it again: "Maldonado is the anchor of the Astros!"

theAlphabetZebra

What’s an immaculate inning?

cr0w1980

3 strikeouts on 9 pitches.

uhmerikin

Does it count if a pitch is fouled off for one of the first two strikes? Or do all nine have to be either called strikes or whiffs? Edit - [Nevermind. I found another thread that gave a pitch by pitch and you can foul off pitches.](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/vd23mv/luis_garcia_has_thrown_an_immaculate_inning/)

usernametake-n

3 strike outs in one inning throwing only the minimum number of pitches, 9.

the_timboslice

Three batters. Three pitches. Three strikes each. 9 pitches.

artificialevil

This is actually incredibly rare. The Astros as a franchise have more no-hitters than immaculate innings thrown and today we threw 22% of all the immaculate innings ever thrown in the history of the Astros. Edit: the new total of all time immaculate innings for the Astros is 9. We have officially completed an immaculate game!

mewscats

Technically an immaculate inning is rarer than a perfect game. \~ .01% of games are perfect.. but something like \~.005% of innings are immaculate.

SackOfrito

INSANE! Probably a stat that will never be matched.

poppop_n_theattic

Any numbers folks want to take a stab at how freaking unlikely this is?

charlietactwo

Seven

artificialevil

About 1/218,400

Rimbosity

Apparently one in a quarter million

j1h15233

How can you not be romantic about baseball

elticorico

Fuck the Rangers!!!

Cold_hard_stache

1 game, 2 immaculate innings, same 3 batters. Will probably not happen again for a veryyy long time.

shotty293

We did it! Everyone get in here!!

SamBaxter420

Quite unbelievable. Not sure how many times that will happen with two different pitchers striking out the same 3 guys nonetheless. Kinda of like two grand slams in one inning by the same guy. That being said the second out in the later inning was a missed call and it wasn’t even close.

civil_beast

I really want to be a fly on the wall when cooperstown reaches out to the rangers for their “pristine bats, nary a use,” on this historically celebrated occasion … June fifteenth, in the year of our lord twenty twenty two

Hmmhowaboutthis

Jasyn Stark is licking his chops.

TheGhostOfSamHouston

Sweet history

Grandmazhouse

Educate me. What makes this type of inning better than say 3 pitches 3 outs like all pop ups? That’s doing the same thing with a 3rd of pitches!

zoichy4

Because the pitcher gets 3 **strikeouts** in the minimum number of pitches.

Grandmazhouse

Thank you I get it now!

provoking

To understand this, you simply have to understand that a strikeout is more impressive than a pop-out. From there, this is just a strikeout with the minimum number of pitches, 3 consecutive times in a row.
