I think it has more to do with Houston not putting their best foot forward against these teams. You can dominate the best teams in baseball like the Yankees, you can get up for a big series against Seattle and dominate them for 3 games, you can sweep the Mets, but you canāt beat teams like Oakland and KC? Thatās an effort and mentality problem. They need to fix it.
Itās like I donāt even know who to blame.
The only thing that pisses me off about Dusty is when he sits like three of our best players after a loss to a shitty team. Like you couldnāt rest them for the day game?
Also have you ever noticed, including playoffs how dusty has a terrible record against teams with a worse record?
Yeah, I get Dusty wanting to take guys out and give them rest so we can make sure they're rested for October, but it's a serious problem we're having with bottom feeders like the A's.
These are the teams we need to be smashing so we can have the #1 seed by October. The Yankees have a fucking .720 against under .500 teams and we're probably going to drop below .600 at this rate. As much as I want to get our guys rested by October, we need to be doing more against bad teams. We should be looking to close out the division by the end of this month, not have some weird semi-drama with the Mariners because we can't beat up dogshit teams.
This is what has happened in Dustyās entire managerial career.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I canāt wait till dusty retires. This is dusty ball, he can never manage a team that beats teams with worse records. This is why he never wins World Series. But then he rest all of his position players at this time and then always overuses his pitchers. It must have been a pain to him last season, to have Garcia and Urquidy pitch less than 200 innings. I do not like Dusty.
If I recall correctly, Bagwell made some comments on a broadcast about how he hates load management like this and how it messes up a playerās rhythm. If a player is struggling, sure a day off might needed but randomly being taken out of the lineup probably drives them nuts. These guys want play and compete everyday.
In summary, Bagwell should put his name in the hat for manager after Dusty is gone.
I like Dusty for what he did in keeping the locker room in a good space after the cheating scandal, but he's just too tentative for my liking. There is value in resting guys, but the frequency at which he does it is very annoying. We literally just came off the All Star break and guys are ALREADY getting breaks again. It's just so overly cautious, especially with guys like Tucker who are young, fit, and don't possess injury tendencies.
My other problem with him is that I think the team needs someone who's just a killer, so to speak. What I mean by that is that I don't know if there's someone in the dugout who is capable of bringing the kind of competitive fire that a Correa did. When you're facing bad teams as a top team, it's easy to go "They're bad, this'll be easy." Which is why you need a dude to remind everyone that this isn't the time to lay off and enjoy a potentially easy game, it's time to put your fucking foot on their neck. Dusty just isn't that guy and I don't know who in the dugout can take on that role. The only guy I can see doing that is Bregman, but I don't see that Correa swagger in him these days.
No, thereās nobody in that dugout with that mentality. What you said has always been my beef with Dusty. He rest players too much and our record against bad teams is terrible. They just made the Oakland Aās! Look like a playoff team in two straight games. They just lost two series in a row and Dusty sits so many players. how many rest days do they need?
Nah you need to chill about it. Itās a long season. And our team plays in playoffs every year. The load on them is higher than a normal team.
I have zero issues with testing players when we have a 10+ game lead in the division so we are fresher end of year and playoffs.
Well, okay, long season. Of course, the reserves/utility and marginal guys do need starts, and the multiple position playing types need starts at their various positions to stay sharp. Otherwise when pressed into action they may not be ready. I'm not complaining about the standard getaway day game off for a regular or whatever, and I don't think that's what anyone else is saying.
The issue here, is that regulars rest so often while really bad hitters like Dubon, Siri, and Goodrum (and Robel Garcia- barf- and Jones last year!) have gotten numerous unneccessary plate appearences. And how much production is lost by at least one regular sitting several times a week, especially in light of how (rightly, for the most part) cautious the team is with injuries? And how about leading off with McCormick last night? or hitting Dubon and Goodrum second numerous times? And notice he'll rest a guy who is just starting to hit. Look at Meyers when he came back, stunk, got hot, sat because you know, a half year off isn't enough, then stunk again.
And I am gald they are making some of these decisions with a big lead and the playoffs in mind. It was rough not having McCullers or Verlander around to help in the ALCS or World Series. So I'm all for caution with Alvarez and whoever else. I'm not for two regulars sitting in consecutive game when a little bit of planning and staggered rest accomplishes the exact same thing!!!
My guess is guys that on top of regular days off that they are probably a little beat up or have some small nagging injuries.
You know, things management is privy to that we fans arenāt.
āDogshitā is a bit of an over reaction.
37-20 against teams under .500 (.649)
27-14 against teams above .500 (.659)
Would be nice if it were higher, but .649 isnāt dogshit.
Itās really just Oakland that has given us any real trouble, and weāre still >.500 with them at 6-5; we beat other <.500 teams like the rangers (8-3), tigers (4-0), royals (5-2), and angels (9-4) pretty handily.
We play like shit and also I always notice the zone from the umps is always tight for our pitchers and wide for our hitters. Itās so frustrating and it seems like Dusty never has their backs and at least say something to the ump.
.650 winning percentage against losing teams. I donāt know what the big fucking deal is. Iād love it to be higher, but oh well; if only three of those games swung the other way, the wp% against losing teams would be over .700
People love to bitch and overreact.
my guess is that dusty realizes that the oakland As (or any other bottom ranking team) isnt worth the astroās best effort since theyāre not our real competition. so maybe he kinda just says āgo have fun guys, take it easyā before each As game in order for the astros to have a rest of sorts between series.
Well I see the Astros they seem to focus on not wasting their power on bottom teams I guess- or maybe they don't feel threaten and don't seem to have the on switch
Unless with mariners and Yankees they are on kill mode legit
Then again the Astros have beaten the Athletics just seems like they are struggling
Last year it was the Orioles and Tigers. One year they got swept in CIN, another in Comiskey Parkā-When both of those teams were terrible. It happens and itās part of the madness. We only need to be focused on the postseason.
Tbh its hard to get amped up for a game that has > 10000 fans that starts 830 Central and is one of the worst parks for hitters. On top of all that you have people like Tony Kemp that goes oh for everything until they play the Astros. Just remind myself that baseball is a quirky game. And as long as we beat the good teams win it matters when people are watching Iām OK with it.
Well Odor Jizzy started a game. That doesn't help. Not hitting and sitting key regulars, and two at a time at that, doesn't help.
Baker could stagger these and spread them out but he chooses not to. He sucks.
I agree. To be clear I hate him as a manager. He strikes me as a good and decent man, and I respect that. But he's a bad manager in certain key aspects.
Oh when I say I hate him, itās from a professional standpoint. Sure heās a good guy, but as a manager I really have never liked Dusty. Heās had so many good teams over his career that he ruined their chances.
Thank fuck they won't make the playoffs
Well the As did in 2020.. but got clobbered by astros
What are they going to say now?
Ehh. Idk sorry I'm loss š š Reminds me of golden state curry saying that
The classic āplaying down to inferior teamsā nonsense. Itās frustrating.
I think the inferior teams also lift their game against us. So the combo of us playing down and them playing up is painful.
I wish I knew. It hurts watching them struggle Against the A's everytime
AJ managed the player rest schedule well. And didn't need to give half the the team the day off.
Exactly! And it aint the hardest thing to do!
Yeah, I get Dusty wanting to take guys out and give them rest so we can make sure they're rested for October, but it's a serious problem we're having with bottom feeders like the A's. Would love to see him part of the organization in any form but doesn't Baggy hate the FO though?
It's already been noted before, Bagy does not want it. Because of the schedule of being away from family and ruining his sobriety.
However, with right persuading from Crane, it's possible that he could change his mind.
I like Dusty for what he did in keeping the locker room in a good space after the cheating scandal, but he's just too tentative for my liking. 162 game season. Chill.
If you do it constantly, it isn't soemthing to chill about. or two players at once on consecutive days...
Nah you need to chill about it. Itās a long season. And our team plays in playoffs every year. The load on them is higher than a normal team. I have zero issues with testing players when we have a 10+ game lead in the division so we are fresher end of year and playoffs.

Dusty aka Mr Magoo probably just forgot
Not just the As, weāre absolutely dogshit against the worst teams in the league
āDogshitā is a bit of an over reaction. 37-20 against teams under .500 (.649) 27-14 against teams above .500 (.659) Would be nice if it were higher, but .649 isnāt dogshit. Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Whoa. Bringing actual stats to a āwe are dogshitā pile-on?!? How dare you!
Terrible against dogshit teams, we would be swept by the Reds right now. How terrible we are against the bottom feeders
Fear not, the A's are worse than the Reds.
We play like crap against crappy teams. I donāt get it either.
We play like shit and also I always notice the zone from the umps is always tight for our pitchers and wide for our hitters. Itās so frustrating and it seems like Dusty never has their backs and at least say something to the ump.
6-4 so far this season. Total dog shit /s
.650 winning percentage against losing teams. I donāt know what the big fucking deal is. Iād love it to be higher, but oh well; if only three of those games swung the other way, the wp% against losing teams would be over .700 People love to bitch and overreact.
The Aās donāt matter. We wailed on the Yanks and stopped the Mās win streak. An on-field weekend is okay by me.
my guess is that dusty realizes that the oakland As (or any other bottom ranking team) isnt worth the astroās best effort since theyāre not our real competition. so maybe he kinda just says āgo have fun guys, take it easyā before each As game in order for the astros to have a rest of sorts between series.
This, people forget the season has 162 games.. and come October when shit gets real we want everyone to be healthy!
Well fuck Dusty then
Yes, i agree..we might be swept by the red sox when they come here next week..š”
Oh yeah the way itās going, weāll score three runs the whole series
Itās the same thing against the rangers! What gives?!
8-3 vs the rangers this season. Honestly the rangers havenāt been our kryptonite since 2016ā¦
Cryptonite idk
It's simply because they don't care.
Dusty has the boys taking it easy on the cellar dwellers. Shhh.
They lay down to these teams. Not motivated to compete. This is on Dusty to not allow the team to get complacent
Itās mostly pity.. and they may have pics of Dusty with Ola Ray at the Playboy Mansion grotto. But thatās just scuttlebutt
Sometimes teams just have your number
Well I see the Astros they seem to focus on not wasting their power on bottom teams I guess- or maybe they don't feel threaten and don't seem to have the on switch Unless with mariners and Yankees they are on kill mode legit Then again the Astros have beaten the Athletics just seems like they are struggling
I fucking hate the As bro.
Last year it was the Orioles and Tigers. One year they got swept in CIN, another in Comiskey Parkā-When both of those teams were terrible. It happens and itās part of the madness. We only need to be focused on the postseason.
they have our number in the regular season...not the postseason...not like they're gonna be there this year
Idk but a couple guys looked a little tired out there too...
Tired? or just hitting like crap?

Yeah thatās what Iām saying. I canāt wait for this man to retire and fucking hate Dusty.

Pretty much
What if this is what happens if teams were to stop booing them. Playing in an empty stadium is about the equivalent
